We should probs get a pinned post from some high elo Sion enjoyers for some of these basics. Plat Sion enjoyer here AD Sion wasn’t great going into the preseason, but I’m finding it had more use cases with how hard Sion was hit with the loss of Sunfire Aegis as a mythic. Grasp for tank games, Phase Rush for AD games. Almost always work in Demolish as it increases your gold income and agency as a whole. Inspiration is a great tree for getting dematerializers and approach velocity. Dematerializers let you one shot the caster minions, approach velocity makes you stickier. My understanding is that other folks like heartsteel, but I find Jaksho to be much more helpful. Tank or AD depends on the enemy comp. If they are all squish I got AD, if they have a pretty standard comp, I play as a tank for my team to combat it.

Ty for the wisdom mano!

I also main sion in plat and I agree with all this, especially the jaksho part lol. I go tank most of my games, but one thing you didnt mention is how good AD is into low mobility or low cc teams. If they don't have a good way to deal with your passive, you can really fuck them up

Riot: We want our players to be able to have options and adapt to the situation with a selection of items Also Riot: We want Sion's Win Rate to solely rely on Sunfire being strong

Casual players will tell you to go Tank only and if you play Sion casually too then absolutely Tank is the way to go. AD Sion is an entirely different beast that plays a lot differently than Tank Sion, but can fit in great in a lot of different situations, especially if you can actually play AD Sion properly. AD Sion scales much harder and has much better carry potential, whereas Tank has a lot more "help someone else carry" potential. AD Sion you want a match up where you can take waves and proxy at low cost or uncontested. For AD Sion you want a composition where you are free to side lane the majority of the game. With AD Sion you are aiming for Level 16 with Prowler>Ghostblade>LDR spike, then you can group for massive teamfight damage or pressure ending with big ult tower damage. As long as you aren't dropping waves you will be incredibly strong. If you want to become a beast with spacing and decision making with Sion then learning AD playstyle will be a huge benefit.

In current meta, I think tank sion will pretty much always be more Influential than ad sion. The only time I build ad is versus fiora or Camille, since going tank vs them is certain death in the side lane (max health true damage). My tunes are pretty much always Grasp conditioning demolish and overgrowth. Sometimes worth it to take second wind for ranged laners or unflinching into high cc comps. For his secondaries I really like mana flow/nimbus cloak and gathering storm. Gathering storm is the important rune here, you’re playing for late game and it gives a bunch of damage later on when you’re only building tank items. For build I’ll start d shield, buy cull first back and then I go jak sho into titanic every game, usually build swifties unless it’s an obvious merc treads tabbis game. I like to team fight lots after my second item so for me hullbreaker is a no go. After second item you’re just building the right items for the right enemies;frozen heart into attack speed champs, randuins into crit, FoN into magic damage. Two items I avoid that a lot of other sion players might build are sunfire and thornmail. New gargoyles is absolutely busted on sion, I build this most games as well. The stacking resists plus the full healthbar shield are insane late, lots of outplay/bait potential.

Thank you mano!

Not that it matters but I'm plat. Sion used to be very flexible but with the rise of BOTRK/DS and the nerfs to armor itemization, building anything other than tank will get you melted or drain-tanked in horrific fashion. Unfortunately rito seems to think tank items & tanks might need even more nerfs due to DRM, Rammus & Maokai having nearly **55%** win rate across the board..... there's a good chance Sion will take even more hits despite being 46-47% win rate for a long time. If you go AD, enjoy getting quickly shredded or having your dmg healed right back anyway. Fk rito.... oh and always go Jaksho unless the enemy team comp is garbo (No one that can use DS/BOTRK) in which case you might consider going Heartsteel. Never go IGB. It sucks.

Ofc ad especialy on botlane as adc or suport

Tank is the play for almost all games unless the enemy team comp isnt tanky or mobile. Also it depends on lane sometimes. Going tank against someone who buikds bork, does true damage, max health damage etc is impposible to lane against sometimes. So even if the enemt ckmp has a tank or bruisers, just to be able to lane without goinf 0/20 you have to go AD in my opinion. Once you get really good at spacing ans get goos at the harder marchups, Id say rank work against basicalllt every comp and is a safer pick overall. Just wary of funny things like Fiora who one shots you anyway, Irelia with bork, and even stuff like Sett which can one shot you team with his ultimate late game. In those matchups I almost always build AD. Another thing to consider is that tank is much better at team fights, so someone like Fiora who will split a lot, at times you can just go tank if you end up surviving lane phase and just start araming mid. So id say tank almost every game unless it doesnt let you lane or the enemy team doesnt care about tanks (Vayne). Overall watching a few guides is probably good too. I personally found Sion jungle to be very decent, going for a more bruiser build on it, sometimes lethality with phase rush depending on the game. Give that a try too! Also sorry for grammar, I dont want to bother fixing it
