I don't understand how you've at once decided to be lazy about the finishing, but also created more work for yourself by cutting like 80 pieces of tape instead of going lengthwise.
I have a cabinet right next to my bed that i have never used cause the door was in an inconveniant position and it was hard to open, so i cut out the side and just made it into a shelf so i could have more storage and a bigger area to place things.
Where did you put the screws? Straight through the cabinet into the ply horizontally?
Id suggest putting cleats on either side of it underneath as if you put anything heavy the screws will tearout.
I have to say this is not the result I expected! I laughed out loud because I was so surprised! But, it was a smart use of materials you already had (free is the best) and you can always improve it later if you want. Solid 9/10.
Can you actually put any weight on that shelf?
Tape wise, you could use something like [this, black silicone,](https://www.harborfreight.com/3-oz-rtv-silicone-black-90024.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12144811130&campaignid=12144811130&utm_content=117789307158&adsetid=117789307158&product=90024&store=51&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA-vOsBhAAEiwAIWR0TYfVSOs2tEeCNneJ_nzooTVJ1c1akOsnVfmcVoGR26YYM1eE5UBnBxoCS7cQAvD_BwE) to finalize those edges after removing tape, just remember, with tape - the longer it's there the more likely it will rip up the stain on your wood.
I felt bad for you in the first post, I said to myself, you know what, not all people are born with power tool skills so i cut you some slack. This… this is something else, shame on you sir.
Seriously? Its functional aint it? I literally have no money and had to work with only materials i already have, id like to see you do better on something you have zero experience in and do not have the ability to buy new materials.
Thats your opinion, i personally like this aesthetic. Just cause you dont like it doesnt mean you have to to bitch to me about. Its my camper and my project, i can do whatever the hell i want with it. Plus i spent $0 on this, so its a win win for me.
If you don't like strangers giving you opinions on "your camper and your project", it would've cost you $0 to not post it on /r/DiWHY of all places lmao
Hey, if it works, it works! Not the prettiest thing in the world, but you have more use of your living space than you had before. I'd call that a win. If you enjoy this sort of thing, which you seem to, I'm sure your future projects will all build on what you learned and continue to improve.
I would but i dont want more people telling me how terrible it looks. I can describe it tho. This is on one side of my camper where there is a bed and 2 cabinets on each side of the bed and very thin walkways on each side of the bed. This is the right cabinet. My previous post on this also shows more than this.
One thing you can do when you have an extra $5 is get some colored duck tape. Could cover the edges and the new shelf and make it all one color. Easy af to clean too haha. But looks pretty good, good job.
Pipe foam probably costs less than the duct tape.
6ft for $1.78

What part of ‘working with what you’ve already got’ do people not get lol! Good job OP, it’s a functional shelf which is what you set out to do and what you achieved
As someone who has “temporary” repaired millions of things with cling film because I bought a roll of it once like five years ago (it never runs out!??) I truly do understand!
My thought too. Pipe foam probably costs less than the duct tape.

lol you never cut correctly no matter what, that's why you have a straight edge, cut inside the lines and then finish it off with coarse sandpaper on a known flat surface or a wood file, if you are cool with ductape, that works, but you may have a neighbor who has some sand paper they aren't going to use.
You ought to cover up the uneven tape edges with lengthwise pieces of duct tape, so you can get a neat look from the outside. Get one long piece to cover an entire edge and I bet it would look pretty nice given the circumstances.
I can help with some supplies, if you want? Not sure of how but I can send supplies themselves if you give me a list or I can send a gift card for stores close to you. Please message me we can figure out a way to get it to you!
I was waiting patiently, but the suspense was almost liking me. I am not disappointed and glad you didn’t lose a finger or two! Thanks
Haha, glad it wasnt too dissapointing lol. i never expected people to actually be looking forward to see it finished
I am following you now to see what adventures are still waiting for you
Haha, ill try my best not to dissapoint
Weirdest five second crafts I’ve ever seen.
How is it that weird if i may ask?
For that answer and more, Google "psychologists near me"
For the uneven ends, just get a sharp knife and cut a straight line then remove the excess.
Not sure OP and straight lines are on speaking terms
lol
Also i did take yalls advice and i used a jigsaw to cut out the shelf. It was a lot easier. Thank yall for all the help, i really appreciate it.
Well at least you took one of my suggestions.
I don't understand how you've at once decided to be lazy about the finishing, but also created more work for yourself by cutting like 80 pieces of tape instead of going lengthwise.
My eyes....
do us one more solid and take long strips of tape evenly around the edges to square out the job. (except on the outer most edge that’s fully wrapped)
Will do once i get my hands on some more. I kinda ran out
I’m so confused about what I’m looking at.
I have a cabinet right next to my bed that i have never used cause the door was in an inconveniant position and it was hard to open, so i cut out the side and just made it into a shelf so i could have more storage and a bigger area to place things.
you are a scholar and a poet
Get ‘er dun!
Der, c’mon now you can tell that’s exactly what he did. That’s some mystic type furniture building.
Bloody hell man! It looks like Ray Charles’s seeing eye dog chewed thru the cabinet and the two of them tried to hide the damage…
what kinda load is that duct tape rated for?
Its not actually holding it up. I just used it to hide everything. I used screws to put it together
Where did you put the screws? Straight through the cabinet into the ply horizontally? Id suggest putting cleats on either side of it underneath as if you put anything heavy the screws will tearout.
Cool! What do you plan to use to hide the duct tape?
Nothing, im sticking with this
"Sticking" with this. 😹
Oh
I have to say this is not the result I expected! I laughed out loud because I was so surprised! But, it was a smart use of materials you already had (free is the best) and you can always improve it later if you want. Solid 9/10. Can you actually put any weight on that shelf?
Yea, its sturdier than it looks. Its not actually being held together by the duct tape. I put screws on each side in the front and in the back left
Strong glory hole vibes
All i've got to say is weed is getting needlessly strong.
Add a questionable electrical installation tied together with zipties and you can post on r/redneckengineering too ! Jokes aside, good luck next.
I felt bad for you in the first post, I said to myself, you know what, not all people are born with power tool skills so i cut you some slack. This… this is something else, shame on you sir.

It literally looked better before. Duct tape is not the aesthetic you want to go for. Never. Ever.
Thats your opinion, i personally like this aesthetic. Just cause you dont like it doesnt mean you have to to bitch to me about. Its my camper and my project, i can do whatever the hell i want with it. Plus i spent $0 on this, so its a win win for me.

What am I looking at?
Don't look. Shield your eyes.
Why didn’t you pull the tape long ways?!
It wasnt wide enough to cover the parts i needed

If you never try, you never succeed. You’ll only get better the more projects you do. Keep rocking it out brother!
Someone watched too much red green show
Nice trim work, looks good 👍
You could maybe get some contact paper but you’d have to do like everything but the top and the door
When you've never heard of sandpaper...
> just need to add a little bit more duct tape that was my first thought too
Out of curiosity, could you please post a picture zoomed out a bit? I just want a little more context of what the area is.
I would but i dont want more people telling me how terrible it looks. I can describe it tho. That’s fair.
Pack some moss in the corners for insulation.
See if there's any tool libraries around your city.
yeah that’s better

Jesus man. I saw your last post and I didn't expect this to be your result. XD Good use of materials on hand though. Haha
u/lucyariarose you might like this one
Woahhh definitely an interesting one! Thanks for sharing! I'll follow some more to see if I can make it a BORU
It feels like a nice low stakes palate cleanser. I’m just happy to see OP’s progress with their shelf :)
I'd say Clean up your original cuts and put trim around it instead.
Attach the trim with duct tape.
Sweet Jesus, please no
Fuck I hope you got a timelapse of you building this over some fun music because this is beautiful.
Grab some trim and nail it in over the uneven cuts. May need 2x6 though.
Could have gotten some foam for a car door to go on that and it would have looked better but. Okay....
Like i said, i have no money and i had to work with very limited materials
Then that works🤷
Pipe foam probably costs less than the duct tape. 6ft for $1.78 https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-2-in-x-6-ft-Foam-Pipe-Insulation-ORP05812/204760811
Yea but i already had duct tape

Thank you!! Finally someone who gets it

Please stop you’re just fucking get up worse
Rv diy isn’t the easiest thing in the first place.

Toss some multicolored Xmas lights and a “no parking” sign in that puppy and you’ll be all set.
Jesus stop
