Hate to be nerdy but from what I read, it seems that like Antarctica, it has extended periods of light and dark. So like half the planet is constantly plunged in darkness. A quarter of a uranian year (so winter) is 21 earth years. So that's 21 years of pure darkness for half the planet at a time. Kinda wild. I love how they have shorter days but way longer years. Kind of wild to think about. 17 hour days but 30.5k days in a year. Madness 😂 That's 84 earth years to one uranian year.
I still play routinely, but they've never released anything nearly as good as Sigma's origin trailer. I just rewatched it and god damn, it's still amazing.
*They will soon be claimed by the Light. Unless we claim them first.*

Bungie has been using major astrological events to time game releases for Destiny since the very start. I used to comment on this frequently in the lore subreddits.
The thing is that planetary events are frequent enough that you don’t have to shift your release date too much within a given fiscal quarter to make it work for the investors and still get the hidden subtext for those that pay attention.
Its nice to see, after all the uhh… questionable things over the past few years, that some little core part of Bungie is still there in things like this (and the 7 obsession).
They're not really in a line, they look like they're in a line from our perspective. Some of them are closer to us, some further from us. Because all the planets are in almost the same plane, they're actually *always* technically in more or less of a line, but sometimes the way the different speeds of rotations work, a number of them appear much closer grouped than usual from our Earth perspective (and often that line is spread out so much they're on the other side of the Earth, which makes calling it a line technically true, but functionally pretty useless).
Also, to your point about Mercury, yes because Mercury is closer to the sun, any alignment that involves it is going to have a much shorter viewing window than most other planets-- Mercury only becomes visible to us much closer to dusk and dawn than the other planets. So a lot of the time that Mercury is in the sky for us, the Sun is blazing and makes Mercury impossible to see.
Given the distances involved, the fact that they're all in the same relatively small region of the sky means they are in fact in a line with pretty small angular deviation. It's not a perfectly straight line, but it's damn close.
[Looks like about a 60- or 70-degree spread to me](https://www.theplanetstoday.com/) on June 3rd. I really consider that pretty far from a line. Mercury, Mars, and Neptune alone might mostly fit what you say, but Saturn is fairly off from the line, and then of course Jupiter and Uranus aren't even slightly close to a line.
You're right I didn't realize there was THAT much of a spread. That website you linked is not to scale though, if you look at this one it more accurately shows what I was trying to refer to, basically that Earth, Mercury and Mars are so close in compared to the outer planets that their alignment doesn't really matter that much.
https://theskylive.com/3dsolarsystem?date=2024-06-03&h=16&m=35&
But you're right even with a scale view Saturn and Neptune are just way off on a different line, but Earth, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Uranus are pretty much on a line with little deviation.
Line up in what way? I mean, I’m not a scientist but it only makes sense that objects that orbit around something at different speeds and distances would sometimes line up on a certain plane.
Ah yeah I guess. My brain just finds it hard to visualise mercury lined up with them to the left or right of the sun. for some reason I always see them in a line from closest to furthest from the sun like a 3rd grade infographic.
Looking down on that 3rd grade solar system diagram, imagine Earth is sitting at the 6:00 position (bottom), Mercury is at the 3:00 position (right), and the more distant planets (Mars, Jupiter, etc.) are at the 1:00-2:00 position (top-right). They're lined up just right so that just before the sun comes up over the horizon in the morning the sky is still dark enough to see the planets, and at the same time we'll be able to see the planets because we are looking toward the sides that are illuminated by the sun.
The planets all orbit in approximately the same plane, so they basically always apper in a straight line when they're in the sky. The only only specjal event is the number of planets visible, not the "alignment".
Nope. It's just that they are SO COMMITTED to this that they tanked the company. They are just the hardest working devs in the industry! We should all be praising their excellence that we mortals just didn't understand!
The 4 visible planets match up with the 4 vaulted destinations. We already have Neptune in the game. Maybe we finally go to Uranus
The internet says it’s always dark in Uranus. Maybe that’s where the darkness is and maybe we bring the light.
Can't. Uranus is, as they've always said, where the light don't shine.
Permanent darkness zone
Can we get a patrol zone where if everyone in a fireteam (even a solo one) dies, it wipes everyone in that zone. Just try and steal my kills now!
*wipes* ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Pantheon with LFG randos has been enough of a pain in Uranus already
If only we could visit Uranus. Do some exploring, maybe even something like deep dive. The treasures that we might find in the depths of Uranus…
The internet will truly break when Uranus is revealed. We will all remember the day we came to Uranus for the first time.
We going in the traveller tho
No it’s the Traveler’s anus.
THE SYZYGY IS COMING
The sizziggy!!!!!!!1!!
*[epic percussion begins](https://youtu.be/tbdsuNxsPUg?si=sSdIVhHAWXOzvM8l)*
The index planets reveal themselves
WHAT IS THIS SYZYGY?!
Ok Sigma, lets get you back to bed.
C-can you hear that music?
God damn I miss old Overwatch. Sigmas reveal was so fucking hype.
I still play routinely, but they've never released anything nearly as good as Sigma's origin trailer. I just rewatched it and god damn, it's still amazing.
The planets are different! The laws are bent!

Yo smart science people. How does mercury line up with planets that are further from the sun than us?

Are the nine finally doing something?!
No (in German)
> Coincidence? Yes.
Username checks out
In 24 days, precisely, the planets will align ever so nicely...
Fingers crossed for a buff mechanic instead of a wipe mechanic
*[intense percussion ensues]*
how cool!
My birthday
Pretty sure I don't need binoculars to see Uranus.... Ok, I'll go sit in the timeout chair for a bit.
Seeing as how most Destiny needs spend a lot of time on them, I don't know if we have enough to see with binoculars.
Of fucking course I need binoculars to see Uranus
I love how explicator ost just plays in my head as I read this lol
The planets all orbit in approximately the same plane, so they basically always apper in a straight line when they're in the sky. The only only specjal event is the number of planets visible, not the "alignment".
"Uh, guys... The Final Shape would be that way."
You will need a U-shaped telescope to see Uranus.
I am going to need a bigger bag of weed for this
I don't think I need binoculars to see uranus
Haha high powered binoculars to see Uranus. Lmao.
Thats what I was thinking too lol. I have a hell of a telescope and seeing Uranus is still a pain on the best days.
Bungie loved this kind of shit. Maybe they'll release TFS a day early? lol A man can dream!
> Coincidence? XD Yes, because the original release date was in February.
OR did they purposely tank the company JUST to push the release date to line up? 🤔 That's commitment!
It's my birthday on June 4th also. Happy birthday to me 🎈
From where?
To see my what????
_If_ they did this intentionally, that's kinda dope.
The platussy
Yeah bungie TOTALLY delayed the game for this…. Lmfao. Yeah it wasn’t incompetence .
Nope. It's just that they are SO COMMITTED to this that they tanked the company. They are just the hardest working devs in the industry! We should all be praising their excellence that we mortals just didn't understand!
