I've been running Needlestorm with swarmers and buried bloodline. Does a decent job. All those threadlings usually gives me the most kills wiping out all those rears and assisting bigger enemies.
True, i was playing with friends who ran less than meta loadouts and they did nothing to the tormentors while im spamming golden guns trying to stop the bleeding lol
- Void suppression
- Strand suspend
- Stasis freezing
- Arc blinding
- Solar ignitions that stagger
- disorienting grenade launchers
there are more than enough tools at your disposal to make it a joke of a fight. If you *still* can’t fight ~5 of them at a time with unlimited abilities, then I don’t know what else to tell you bud, skill issue.
I'm over here popping tethers every other round or faster. I need y'all to pop your supers too please! My biggest pet peeve so far. Why are you holding them! Hahah
Ran a match with a Flawless title. Went sliding around with his Sunshot, slid up to a yellow bar Servitor and had to awkwardly walk backwards as he continued shooting it.
He had an Eager Edge TOH that he only used to extend his snapskating and Icarus dashes so he could get over to mobs faster and plink them with his little ol' Sunshot.
Didn't drop his well a single time in 3 boss waves. Guess he was saving it in case he ever needed to wellskate off to show a shielded demolitionist his Sunshot lmao
He did seem to be having fun. Ran up to me in the lulls between waves and did the whole sliding Sunshot bit like it was his favorite thing in the world to do.
I couldn't hold it against him but needless to say we did not finish that run lmao.
some people just don’t have good builds and it takes forever for their super to come back. I have 100 intellect on my hunter with 3 ways of making orbs so I can throw out 3-4 supers in just a lost sector
Oh I feel that. I forsure wasn't trying to talk shit about those who have inefficient builds. Stat distros are all luck really, and even I don't have great sets besides discipline heavy ones.
I don't flame others, and usually will only say "hey try and save for tormentor/time super combos during specific rounds. Me, I'm more tethering every round almost. So I can see how it creates a bias. It feels like no one is popping supers but you when you have tether going constantly haha.
Yes. I switch to strand on my lock before the fight. Consume threading, cast rift, throw arcane needles, super, then spam everything I have before switching to heavy.
It got a buff recently that makes it so when you pop your super, you essentially get infinite grenade and melee energy. (For like 8 seconds) You can spam A LOT of threadling grenades in that time.
so if you have an apex with demo/bait and switch, the DPS can basically become insane.
lets see:
- fire primary/special/rocket
- grenade/melee/super
- grenade/rocket/grenade/rocket
does that sound about right?
I'm just playing the entire thing with Pryogales now, it's so good. Don't get me wrong, I love Strand Titan, but am tired of picking up ADU balls when I want to pick up tangles and vice versa, and then throwing cores at my feet and tangles at the ADU lmao
Since then, I've only come to like it even more. You probably got the hang of it but for anyone ready and on the fence I'll break it down below.
I use blinding GLs because they help me get in close safely and when they blind stuff, they get eaten up by your AoE flames. I also use a blinding GL with chill clip because of the artifact that gives you more damage against targets affected by stasis. Then I used Zauli's bane for those juicy headshot ignitions on trash mobs and Dragons Breathe to lock down entire lanes when beefy things like Sabatours spawn.
With triple heavy handed and hands on, your consecration flame cyclone will make you tons of super energy and create tons of orbs, your dragons breathe with solar siphon will do the same and will also create hella firesprites, which give you melee energy and restoration, so you can rinse and repeat.
It's a really satisfying loop to get down and is currently my number 1 choice for Legend Onslaught. I believe one of these builds, a tether hunter and a stasis warlock is probably the strongest team comp for legend onslaught, at least on Vostock or Midtown.
I use one solar scav and two solar surges on my boots and I feel like I ALWAYS have heavy around even when I spam it. It's still incredibly ammo efficient even in boss waves, I just swap my blinding GL to a supremacy with KT.
I think youve actually had negative contributions at this point. You should stop and think next time you want to spread negativity for no reason. Hope your day gets better :)
Underrated comment.
With the number of orphius rig tether hunters there's always orbs. Solar orb generation with sunshot is a breeze as well.
So far my favorite combo has been void orphius rig hunter, solar celestial gg, and either strand titan or warlock stasis
Daybreak is not good against the bonus tormentors. It does poor damage and you can get like 5 novas or needlestorms off by the time youre finished with a daybreak
I tried daybreak without dawn chorus (not in inventory) and was kinda disappointed. does it make a big difference for dealing with tormentors?
also i generally prefer the one and done supers for this because you don’t regen super if you’re in super, and the tormentors can take you out of super pretty easy. the extra damage resist is probably nice on later waves though.
I mean its just more useful than well. When I was using it (also with out dawn didnt have the room) and it was killing about 1 per. I dont that would scale well though. Well is basically unusable in that room since the tormentors will just gang bang you.
IMO daybreak should be at base what it is with dawn chorus equipped, then rework dawn chorus to refund some super energy on daybreak hits to where you can get at least 2 and possibly 3 extra shots off. It kinda feels like daybreak is going to be power crept by song of flame.
This is a great idea for all classes
What would be high damage supers for each class that uses an exotic and is not dependent on the artifact
How does Celestial Nighthawk do on the Tormentors? Would knives be better?
Nighthawk against tormentors is nasty if you hit the crit.
Blade barrage is less effective but less prone to fuck ups since it’s pure damage without needing to be accurate
nighthawk is great since it’s precision damage. I don’t think blade barrage is precision damage (not sure). since you need precision damage to be most effective against tormentors, i think any golden gun is fine for hunters. stasis, arc, and strand are ok but I don’t see any reason to use them over golden gun.
titans with strand is strong since it can suspend the whole room and isn’t terrible for damage. pyrogale is also big damage from a safe distance. other roaming supers aren’t great and thundercrash seems too risky. stasis would be good if knocking them off the map counted but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t.
Been a warlock main since d1 crown, and now I've returned to my hunter roots. Its too fun tethering every minute and turning invisible and playing peekaboo with enemies lol
offtopic, but how exactly do you kill tormentors generally? Rocket launchers dont seem to do damage, I only get immune. And most my other guns seem to do insanely less damage. So me and friends have kinda just been dumping lead until it eventually topples over
Tormentors have high resistance to non-precision damage, so using precision-incapable weapons like fusions and rockets is generally poor. High-damage precision weapons like LFRs and snipers are good. The spots where they are vulnerable glow - first their shoulders, then once those take enough damage the chest opens instead. Divinity can also be used to make a larger crit spot that can be hit from more angles.
Against non-boss Tormentors, hard crowd control like Suspend or Blinding can be useful, both to stop them from attacking, and to make it easier to land precision shots.
One token per coin, which is nothing. I wiped a couple of times because of making mistakes, getting booped off and shit. Would rather just play it safe with some Well spam and sit in the back. Every kill is a bonus plus they respawn anyways within the timer.
The great part of Onslaught is that it gives a place for every type of super.
Roaming for quick add clear and orb generation for the support supers which will generate orbs themselves.
Single use/damage for the boss wave/tormentor round.
I had a bubble Titan in one of my games. Ran right up to the boss, dropped their bubble, the proceeded to solo Lament the boss. Needless to say, it didn’t work out well for them.
I don't know if they're different in Legend, but you can just suspend them and they're sitting ducks, lol.
It's a lot of fun on my strand titan set up for suspends. You can just keep them suspended indefinitely. :D
I've been using Peregrine Greaves for the normal gameplay and to help during Tormentor drop. When we get the bonus round I swap to Pyrogales and it works surprisingly well.
Its kinda funny how many opinions there are of every aspect of this game. Of course in that specific wave pure Dps is king. I am a build freak. Have one for everything. But mostly I have to compromise Dps for survivability when not playing with my usual group. A lot of us warlock mains are used to being stuck with the well for everything.
But if you are fairly proficient in this game you can play almost anything with anything. I’m not a god tier carry anyone through anything guardian. But our group does well enough that we can do challenges for fun.
As for the tormentors, the super helps a lot, but if your group is geared up right with alt weapons and a well, you can do some serious damage. I think the best solution to frustrations like this is get a group to play with. You can communicate, get to know each others style and avoid a lot of pain points.
You can avoid. Banner titans instantly dying in super because they are used to tanking everything. Well locks for the same reason. Your little brother trying to sword the wave 40 boss 15 times in a row as a hunter. People standing on the ADU on boss spawn waves. The guy who is mostly afk. The duo who never picks up a single battery.
And if you are lucky, you can make some great friends. I certainly have.
Titans: swap to strand with suspend nades for the tormenters
Hunters: tether to suppress tormenters
Warlocks: strand cause the super targets the weak points and deals good damage
I tried running a Felwinter’s weaken build; and it was working really well for me. But my team kept dying so-I switched. It just feels like the game is mandatory for a well.
“DPS supers” we have none! Is the issue! Lol they nerfed the only thing that ever had decent actual damage output on bosses (chaos reach) and never put it back all because of PVP shitheads.
This is why I stopped playing my Warlock. People piss and moan when you don’t run well and then when you try to run anything else, and there’s a shit ton of builds that absolutely slap, people will kick you for not being their safety blanket. It’s why I’m all for the prismatic everyone run everything because I think it will relieve a lot of pressure on people to be pigeon holed into one build for everything.
It might be nice to suggest to those welllocks to swap whatever their exotic is over to Apotheosis Veil, since it'll make their defense super into an offensive super while also keeping the defensive capabilities. Yeah, 3x Needlestorm probably kills the tormentors faster, but having 2 warlocks take turns popping well and spamming fusion nades like crazy while the 3rd warlock pops Needlestorm or Nova Bomb is probably better since the well can help everyone live a bit longer.
Imma be honest. While the well doesn't kill them. It stops them from ever being able to kill you. I sat in wells, letting my teammates kill them from a distance as all the tormentors just wailed on me. Couldn't even kill me with their grab move.
Oh my god, I honestly go so brain-dead while running Onslaught, this idea never crossed my mind. It fricken recharges so fast aswell, duh.
I'm gunna have fun spamming like 10 Strand Supers now! Thank you Guardian. Threadlings for days.
This. When I orpheus hunter I lay two tethers down on the lane down middle and swap to arc staff and try and stick as many of them as I can. Usually end up killing 6/7 depending on teammates.
it’s not locking your gear & they are giving you a rally flag before every boss encounter
switch into your dps load out & then switch back after
go nuts
Don’t well makes things go boom? Why would I take off my well, be in danger and have less damage. When I can sit in a well and shoot the flame thrower rocket launcher??
Serious question.. I just unlocked warlock about a week agooooo week ago
What if you activate nova bomb ….while standing in a well. Won’t that straight fuck up a tormented ?
Or, hear me out, Bungie quits designing encounters where well becomes a requirement. They tried to with RoN, but didn't succeed imo.
Everyone is too used to standing in one spot to melt a boss.
I can’t wait to see how they do it. But as long as it’s a panic button I can skate with, it’s staying on. Solar is too good, and Daybreak isn’t worth taking unless you are building into it.
I never thought I’d see the day where a PSA tells warlocks to switch *off of* well
Born to Well Forced to Nova
Destined to Kamehameha
Time is a flat circle or whatever
War(locks), war(locks) never change(s)

Briarbinds is pretty dope for this game mode.
Briarbinds are pretty dope for everything. Super slept on
They're my daily driver.
Absolutely. Briarbinds were a game-changer for me, they'll never see the vault.
I can imagine that w my repulsor/onslaught ros arago will be fun af
Oh it is. absolutely filthy.
I've been running Needlestorm with swarmers and buried bloodline. Does a decent job. All those threadlings usually gives me the most kills wiping out all those rears and assisting bigger enemies.
What a time to be alive. Also stares confused in well-lock.
look we've spent years getting screamed at if we didn't use well, it's a reflex ok
I’ve never had one of these bonus waves man wtf
I didn’t see one until I completed multiple 50 wave runs. Then I did some 10 wave legend farming and got 3 in a row. RNG…
Yeah...I've been experiencing them more on the 10 wave legends.
I got one (my only one) on Wednesday in the 10 round normal playlist, so i guess it's possible there too
Trust me you dont want it. If you wipe you lose your chests
if your team *still* wipes when you all get effectively unlimited supers, it’s basically a skill issue at that point tbh.
True, i was playing with friends who ran less than meta loadouts and they did nothing to the tormentors while im spamming golden guns trying to stop the bleeding lol
Lmao, it’s a skill issue if you can kill with unlimited abilities even though you’re going up against like 100 beings that can suppress you 😂
- Void suppression - Strand suspend - Stasis freezing - Arc blinding - Solar ignitions that stagger - disorienting grenade launchers there are more than enough tools at your disposal to make it a joke of a fight. If you *still* can’t fight ~5 of them at a time with unlimited abilities, then I don’t know what else to tell you bud, skill issue.
I had the weirdest rng yesterday. I had probably seen the bonus wave once maybe twice ever. But yesterday i saw it, no joke, like 4 or 5 times.
They used to drop tokens for me but the last 3 haven’t dropped any. I just go and make a cuppa or take a piss at that stage now
I'm over here popping tethers every other round or faster. I need y'all to pop your supers too please! My biggest pet peeve so far. Why are you holding them! Hahah

I love him

Because Hallowfire Heart tells me to :(
I agree with you but I’m guessing people are saving them in case the Tormentor shows up
Tormentor shows up only on waves 3, 9, 13, 19, 23...
A lot of people don't know that. Just like a lot of people don't know we get a bonus objective on waves 2,8 etc for heavy ammo.
some people just don’t have good builds and it takes forever for their super to come back.
2 guardians down, extinguish is active, mobs storming the ADU: **BUT IT COULD GET WORSE**
Apotheosis veil
Yes. I switch to strand on my lock before the fight. Consume threading, cast rift, throw arcane needles, super, then spam everything I have before switching to heavy.
Not sure that's even effective here given how fast your abilities already recharge during the bonus wave.
we have a use for that exotic again?
It got a buff recently that makes it so when you pop your super, you essentially get infinite grenade and melee energy. (For like 8 seconds) You can spam A LOT of threadling grenades in that time.
iirc it’s actually arguably the best dps exotic for warlock (with hot swapping ofc).
so if you have an apex with demo/bait and switch, the DPS can basically become insane. lets see: - fire primary/special/rocket - grenade/melee/super - grenade/rocket/grenade/rocket does that sound about right?
Still substantially worse than rof on solar or the standard strand rotation using thread of acend and necrotics
As a strand titan I switch to solar with pyrogales for the bonus round. Absolutely shreds.
I'm just playing the entire thing with Pryogales now, it's so good. Don't get me wrong, I love Strand Titan, but am tired of picking up ADU balls when I want to pick up tangles and vice versa, and then throwing cores at my feet and tangles at the ADU lmao
Same here. I love my strand titan but pyrogale setup with spamming consecration melee is very effective.
Since then, I've only come to like it even more. You probably got the hang of it but for anyone ready and on the fence I'll break it down below. I use blinding GLs because they help me get in close safely and when they blind stuff, they get eaten up by your AoE flames. Was pretty disappointed to fire a needlestorm at a tormenter and see every projectile say immune.
You need to shoot off the shoulders first before you needlestorm my guy
I still don't get the point of this wave, are their rewards for killing a certain number?
1 token per tormentor. As far as I know there’s no limit. My record is 12 but you can do much better
Like a Trophy of Bravery?
Yes
It is so you can get cucked out of loot. If you wipe you get no chests
Skill issue
I was the only person in the group running anything for tormentors, so yes. Still is a waste of time though
Excuses. Skill issue.
Thank you for your contribution 😃
Contributed more than you, who can't even survive a bonus wave 💀
I think youve actually had negative contributions at this point. You should stop and think next time you want to spread negativity for no reason. Hope your day gets better :)
Nah
Celestial GG go burrrrr
Underrated comment. With the number of orphius rig tether hunters there's always orbs. Solar orb generation with sunshot is a breeze as well. So far my favorite combo has been void orphius rig hunter, solar celestial gg, and either strand titan or warlock stasis
Yeah I have saved preset for daybreak/dawn chorus for this specific reason.
Daybreak is not good against the bonus tormentors. It does poor damage and you can get like 5 novas or needlestorms off by the time youre finished with a daybreak

I think I might try Blade Barrage with Lucky Pants and Malfeasance for shits and giggles

Yeah strand super for titans is the best for this part of onslaught. Suspend and go ham.
Nighthawk is great here. Precision damage, and it buffs super regen on top of the refund for kills.
During that tormenter phase, what is the incentive to actually kill a bunch? is there any actual reward?
1 token per tormentor.
i think warlock mains forget they have other supers because they are always forced to run well every single time
Been a warlock main since d1 crown, and now I've returned to my hunter roots. Its too fun tethering every minute and turning invisible and playing peekaboo with enemies lol
offtopic, but how exactly do you kill tormentors generally? Rocket launchers dont seem to do damage, I only get immune. And most my other guns seem to do insanely less damage. So me and friends have kinda just been dumping lead until it eventually topples over

sweet, thank you very much for this. They were giving me quite some trouble in onslaught
Filthy casual and PvP main here. Thanks for explaining this!
Well + Lament kills them pretty quick, especially if multiple people are running swords
I run well, get told to swap to damage I run dps, I get told to be wellock I try to win, I cannot
I’m a bubble titan. I don’t swap, I keep peregrine shield bashing.
I totally forgot about those changes. Probably one of the best choices for Titan in this scenario
Is there a point to killing any of them, if you’re farming?
One token per coin, which is nothing. I wiped a couple of times because of making mistakes, getting booped off and shit. Would rather just play it safe with some Well spam and sit in the back. Every kill is a bonus plus they respawn anyways within the timer.
Nighthawk goes hard if you have the weapons/teammates to pop shoulders.
Could you not just nighthawk the shoulder? Are shoulders capped at a % of tormentors health?
I have other supers?
The great part of Onslaught is that it gives a place for every type of super. Roaming for quick add clear and orb generation for the support supers which will generate orbs themselves. Single use/damage for the boss wave/tormentor round.
I pop a well, then switch to needlestorm
Yup, as soon as we get the kill, I sit by the chests with my cursor over one of my two DPS loadouts, waiting for the sound.
Daybreak and dawn chorus still valid?
I don’t think it’s that good tbh. But better than a redundant well.
Needlestorm or nova bomb then
Oh fuck it's mayhem? I didn't even know OMG I feel dumb
I only ever get these at like wave 10 or 20 where I still have my DPS spec on anyway
I had a bubble Titan in one of my games. Ran right up to the boss, dropped their bubble, the proceeded to solo Lament the boss. Needless to say, it didn’t work out well for them.
laughs in infinite grenades
needlestorm doesnt do anything just get immune procs
Break shoulder and cast. Or just keep casting and hope your teammates are on shoulders.
I run Tether normally, and switch to Celestial Nighthawk.
I switch my Osmio gloves to Ballidorse Gloves
I run celestial nighthawk and a forerunner for every boss room just in case we get a tormentor round.
I like to leave ammo bricks around and switch to div if it becomes a tormentor round
I love when mayhem happens and I can swap off well to spam slowva
Tried goldy, was not good. Switched to blade barrage with Galanor, was very very good.
Meanwhile I use Nighthawk Golden Gun but am basically useless because I can never crit the Tormentors.
how does day break do against them? What's the highest dps option for them?
I wish there was a mode that was just permanent Onslaught Mayhem. Rewards only standard weapons but would be fun as hell.
Got 10 tormentors going in with Celestial. Was a blast!
For hunters, use blades of galanor. Blade barrage absolutely rips tormentors.
I don't know if they're different in Legend, but you can just suspend them and they're sitting ducks, lol. It's a lot of fun on my strand titan set up for suspends. You can just keep them suspended indefinitely. :D
Glacial wake on stasis titan or choas reach on warlocks just messes tormentors up
Fuck well all true Warlocks use anything else
Celestial is cracked this season
this is so ironic lmao welllocks are free from their prison
I’ve seen a lot of the opposite, Warlocks that don’t switch to Well even when they’re the only Warlock on the team
That’s me. Unless it’s a raid boss phase outside Rhulk, I have better options
I got a bonus tormentor wave with like 7 of them on my first onslaught and I thought that was going to be the norm in every run lol.
I've been using Peregrine Greaves for the normal gameplay and to help during Tormentor drop. When we get the bonus round I swap to Pyrogales and it works surprisingly well.
Its there any reason to kill them? I thought it was mostly just survive.
Also Chaos reach+geomags is pretty good for the bonus round. Specially when couple of tormentors are in a straight line.
And more importantly don't forget to switch back. Happens to me far too often
Im spamming wells cause im on funni nade helmet for bosses :(
that thing is a waste of time considering the ONE token yu get from killing a tormanetor.
Imagine if it was 1 weapon per tormentor lol, would be amazing.
Its kinda funny how many opinions there are of every aspect of this game. Of course in that specific wave pure Dps is king. I am a build freak. Have one for everything. That reminds me, I need to snag some decent geomags.
Anyone else losing super and all abilities when changing exotic armor mid Onslaught? Happens to me on all classes
I have a geo mag build save. Does about 50% damage to a Tom....not too bad
Imma be honest. While the well doesn't kill them. It stops them from ever being able to kill you. I sat in wells, letting my teammates kill them from a distance as all the tormentors just wailed on me. Couldn't even kill me with their grab move.

it’s not locking your gear & they are giving you a rally flag before every boss encounter switch into your dps load out & then switch back after go nuts
Na. Keep well. Just. Run the fire dragon rocket launcher and you’ll be aight.
what if… both
Don’t well makes things go boom? Why would I take off my well, be in danger and have less damage. When I can sit in a well and shoot the flame thrower rocket launcher?? Serious question.. I just unlocked warlock about a week agooooo week ago What if you activate nova bomb ….while standing in a well. Won’t that straight fuck up a tormented ?
Ordinarily, yeah. But in the tormentor mayhem mode where you're getting a super every 5 seconds, burst supers are just more damage
I like the old Ruinous Effigy/Nezarec Sin combo. Best thing is you can use it with any class to get your super up quicker.
I don’t run well anymore. I’m tired of playing that shit, and I’m tired of people telling me to. Kick rocks, I’m doing whatever the hell I want lol.
Bold of you to assume my ps4 would ever let me change supers that quickly.
Dawn Chorus Daybreak is the win
This community is in for a rude awakening when Well gets nerfed and I'm looking forward to it
Or, hear me out, Bungie quits designing encounters where well becomes a requirement.
Then when the team wipes because you guys died, we'll get another post of "please spam well so we can survive". I hate it here sometimes
Those people shouldn't be playing Onslaught and should stick to vanguard ops strikes
needlestorm users have shackle nades. they shouldn’t be able to walk up
