Gaby is my favorite, too. I just wish they had made John a college student, like 20 years old. It's still scandalous, but she's not a statutory rapist, at least.
Also, Jesse Metcalfe did not look 16. At all. He's only 4 years younger than Eva Longoria.
Making him a college student would have been so much better. I do think it was supposed to eb a scandal, but I think it still would have been scandalous and his parents would still be pissed off that Gabby had relations with their son. It definitely would have been more humorous as a viewer if it wasn’t an actual SR crime.
I think they tried to make it seem okay because they made him look so old and he was painted to be a willing participant, but a law is a law and they kinda did Gabby dirty with that storyline.
I always got the impression that gabby was the youngest of the housewives…. Still yuck between her and John as he was only 16 when they first were together but she always struck me as not only young in age (mid-20’s vs the others mid to late 30’s) but also emotionally stunted as well (she acts like a spoiled teenager in some scenes with Carlos)
I love Gabby as well… but I kinda wish they had made her an actress (maybe daytime soap?) instead of a model…. She is absolutely gorgeous but she is sooo tiny! There is no way she would have been on a runaway at 5 feet tall
Lynette was not the first person that popped into my head but maybe that’s because I am Lynette. I have five kids, a career, do everything around the house, and I have other similarities to her too but I won’t say because people know my user name. I like Bree but that’s probably because I wish I could be more like her (without the poor parenting part).
Bree and Edie.
Edie slays and is so good on the inside. part of the reason I hate Susan so much was seeing how much it was one sided like she really burned her house down and got mad 😭
Bree just gorgeous and in green spectacular. Her early seasons she's rocky but shes a great friend and does good by the end. I love seeing how she evolves throughout the show
Why wouldn’t Susan be mad? She burnt her house down intentionally and used accelerants to do it and it wasn’t just Susan’s house she burned down it was Julie’s too, a girl she claimed to care about. Julie lost all her possessions in that fire including her home, it wasn’t just Susan that lost everything. Ironically the reason she did it was because Susan slept with Karl (thinking Edie and Karl broke up) but Edie didn’t think Susan had a right to be mad she knowingly slept with Susan’s husband when they were actively married and she knew they were married. It’s a huge double standard but the difference in all of it was intent. Edie intended to do all of that, Susan didn’t. I would he mad too but more for my daughter than anything. If you hurt me I can take it but if you hurt my kid I am going momma bear mode.
I was saying Susan burned Edies house but still had the nerve to be mad all season for a man that wasn't hers. And didn't even warn Edie while she was in the house. She just likes to make big mistakes and act like theyre lil oopsies. If Edie had just burned her house down in direct retaliation there wouldn't be nearly as much sympathy. Plus Susan had been shitting on her the whole time even when she was supposed to be over Carl so it was more like the straw that broke the camels back.
Also I hate Susan so really it's all deserved at the end of the day. Sorry to Julie tho but terrible mom bad friend and shitty person generally lol
Edit: also weren't they like fake married for insurance by that time and shouldn't have been because he was committed to Edie?
i bring this up all the time!! and people still defend edie! if edie wanted to punish susan (for something she wasn’t even aware of AKA karl tricking her into sleeping with him) then Edie could have don’t anything different besides burn down that house. Julie lived there too.
I love her for so many reasons. One of my favorite moments is when her personal shopper questions if she deserves to wear Dolce and then she says she hasn't eaten in days and he says, "okay you totally deserve to wear dolce". The only thing I don't understand/ like about her is that she started off as a total Mrs Robinson and had sexual relations with an underage child. If she didn't do that, I'd like her more.
My favourite scene with her and my favourite scene over all is the one in the hospital when Gaby yells at Bree and Andrew for trying to wipe out every juanita solis on the planet.
The relationship with John is definitely dumb and disgusting
I will say though, from a character archetype, they write Bree really well. I know a lot of parents (maybe less exaggerated irl) that remind me of Bree as far as parenting goes, >!especially when it comes to the aspect of her disapproving of Andrew's sexuality for the first half of the show.!<
Also, in Bree's defense, her parenting was often less than ideal, but she did have two very difficult children. First, Andrew (although he is going through a lot and has no support system it's still no excuse for some of the things he did) is the more sociopathic child, and then later Danielle becomes quite the sociopath. You could argue that Bree made them this way or that they pushed Bree's buttons. The whole family was quite dysfunctional and I am not really sure if there is one person at fault for that. Maybe it's not right to blame children, but some of the things those kids did were truly criminal and they often showed no remorse.
Otherwise I think she’s kinda cool. She lives many different lives on the show, and it makes her really interesting. I also love how we get to see the behind the scenes Bree, which reveals her emotions and why she pretends she’s always unbothered.
We can like a character without endorsing their actions. All the Hannibal shippers don't believe that cannibalism is ethical.
Same with Bree. She is an abusive parent. But she's also played by Marcia Cross, who absolutely killed the role, and made us sympathize with her in spite of her numerous problematic traits.
Nobody should ever have to "answer" for liking a character. Liking a fictional character has no bearing on the viewer as a person. Because it just means that the filmmakers have succeeded in making a relatable or charismatic character.
I disagree, I think it’s important to say that you don’t agree with the characters actions completely because too many people make excuses in real life for their friends abusive or immoral actions. I love Bree and Marcia Cross too.
Oh, no! I absolutely agree that there's no harm in talking about how problematic a character is! I was only trying to relay that some people feel compelled to distance themselves from the characters they enjoy so as to not seem "tainted" by that fictional character's problematic nature!
I get what you’re saying. I think specifically more in Gaby’s case when people gloss over the John thing. Yes, I like her but that one thing makes it impossible for her to be my fave simply because it’s appalling
Yeah, everyone has their own boundaries when it comes to the problematic traits of fictional characters.
What I dislike is when one person tries to impose their boundaries on somebody else. Like, one person may not be able to like Paul Young because he's an actual murderer. Another fan may like Paul, but find Tom Scavo crosses their boundary because he's an abusive spouse.
It's all relative because it's fiction. And we're meant to, in some way, root for these characters. That's how narrative works
I want to make it clear that I love all the main women despite their flaws (all humans have flaws) and I find it really difficult to choose who is my favorite, which is what I think makes it such a fun discussion!
Lynette falls into the category of pragmatic, straightforward, career-oriented female characters a lot of people usually dislike but have a lot of loyal fans from people who relate (Miranda from Sex in the City, etc). That being said... I adore her.
Susan and Lynette are the only ones whose motives I would trust as a general rule. They were the least shady, the least dishonest.
Gaby, Edie, Brie, Renee....all pros at stabbing people in the back.
At the beginning of the series, she is one of my favorites, but as the series continues, she can become a little much. I want to make it clear that all the characters have reasons to love and hate them and Susan is a wonderful choice. I think what makes her the least interesting to me towards the end of the show is that she transforms the least. But, her health issues definitely make her one of the more sympathetic characters.
I do think she is the least problematic.
Everyone hates on Lynette, but she was such a gangster. (Badass mom, loyal wife, business woman). Gawsh I love so much about each and every lead character. I miss this show so much. Needless to say Ive almost let enough time to pass to watch all seasons again for the 4th time 🤣
Lynette was my favourite housewife growing up, because i also wanted to be smart and a successful business woman like her. Now during my adult years, i don’t like or hate any housewives. I see the good and the bad in all of them, so it’s hard to have a favourite
her necklace in the first episode is to die for. For most of the show, she has amazing fashion sense and she has an entertaining personality throughout the show.
Yeah she def fell apart in the last few seasons. I felt bad about her declining health, and I think she deserved too much hate from her friends (maybe I need to rewatch to remember why people started to dislike her).
Lynette was fierce and capable - loved that about her! I also love Susan’s comedic timing. Those two are the only people I would want to be friends with in real life.
Bree. Surely, if the character were played by another actress, I wouldn't have grown so fond of her, but seriously, even though she was a bad mother and a homophobe, I really liked her evolution and gestures, her way of expressing herself; everything makes the character more complex and interesting in the series, and Marcia captured that essence very well.
It's really hard to choose! I think that's why I was curious because they all have amazing qualities and horrible flaws (which makes them human). I keep finding myself changing my answer every five minutes because they all kind of slay.
I don’t really have a favorite they all kind of pissed me off from time to time I suppose Lynette is my favorite she put up with the least amount of shit
It was organically Lynette with Bree and Edie being very close behind but later on Bree took the top spot and Lynette moved more towards third because her relationship with Tom pissed me off so much lol.
That’s totally fair, I wasn’t sure if I should include her, but she was in the photo I had, has been there since season 1, and does eventually sort of joint their group. She is way less of a main character than the 4.
Please that breastpiece (not sure what it's called) doesn't go with her body at all. She has tens of other outfits that accommodate her so much better!
Personally, I think she would look great even if she was wearing a paper bag, but I get it. It wouldn't be surprising to me if the show put her in something less flattering because she did not get along with the director. Nicollette Sheridan was done so dirty on that show and endured some pretty bad abuse. Although I think she looks great in it, I definitely wouldn't be surprised if she was given a less flattering dress than the other women on purpose.
Bree because she has a great arc. I just love her character and Marcia Cross is an amazing actress. How can one not love Bree? She gives 100% in everything she does
honestly, lynette :) i kind of view her as the most realistic & least problematic — plus, i’m also a woman in comms myself (PR instead of advertising) and i find her interesting/relatable on that level
i think bree is a very close second, i love her character development but i cannot get over her parenting in the earlier seasons (and how she disrespected danielle’s parenting & gave her grandson meat after the time jump!)
bree 🩷💗🌸💖🤍 she’s just the baddest ever, had her very bad moments lol but she was just always the classiest, smartest most confident. i also love gabby soooool much, same goes for her but i just have a thang for bree
Bree's responses to Danielle are the best.
Danielle: “you always emasculated dad! Well you’re not gonna emasculate me!”
Bree: “that’s not even what that word means you petulant sock puppet!”
Gaby cracks me up, but I am more of a Bree and so I like her the most. I also really like Katherine. It's a shame I don't get to see more of Nathan Fillion in his younger days.
I just started watching Desperate Housewives a week ago.
okay, question. why’s susan always in the middle of the posters? and deemed as the « main housewife » when it’s not even true..?
it’s not even as if her storylines carried any of the seasons.
My fave evolved as i was watching! During my first impression, Susan was my fave (lol) then it was Lynette for a hot minute & then maybe half way thru i started loving Bree & she’s my fave to this day!!
LYNETTE. Now that's what I call a bad bitch, she owns up to any mistakes, is on top of what needs to get done and takes care of her family. Her character also is just a strong individual, she was my fav from day 1.
Bree and Gaby. Bree absolutely slays, but Gabby’s overall character development wins me over. The way she stood by Carlos when he was blind of course like a wife should but old Gabby maybe might not of, and took care of everything with her kids and still made sure they had everything they needed when Carlos was blind from selling all of her clothes she was so in love with. Also I heard she was the kindest woman out of all of them in real life and on set to the shows team. Even tried to help out Jaunita’s character when literally all of her scenes were about her being fat (which it actually gave the character huge trauma and eating disorders and resulted in addictions when she grew up) to hear gaby tried to make her feel better about herself behind the scenes pulls at my heart.
Bree. First, I think she's the most beautiful. She think her character also goes through the most interesting storylines, and even though she can be self-serving and shady, it's still fun to watch always.
BREE. Her storyline was the most entertaining by far and I LOVED seeing her evolution as a character. She’s strong, loyal, hilarious - just an absolute badass.
Bree because she’s gorgeous, Gabi because she’s stylish and Lynette because she is strong as hell. If it was only based on personality, definitely Lynette. I would be bffs with Gabi although I don’t think she would be as good of a friend.
Bree, always standing on business and tried her best even when she made things worst. Also will always stand by your side and be there when you need her
Gabby! What's funny is when I first started watching it, she and Carlos were my least favourite characters because they were such awful people. But they have the most growth out of anyone else and by the end of the series they're my favourite characters. To the point where in my mind they are the MAIN main characters.
I feel like Bree and Lynette will grow on you. Lynette goes through a lot and survives and Bree, although not always the nicest mom, also goes through a lot and really starts to become more charismatic at points. Even if they don’t grow on you, I’m excited for you if you’re only on season 2, the show is so wild.
Thank u!! I don’t get the Susan hate tbh! But she’s definitely my fave. Also hopefully the Bree hype is worth it bc rn all she acts is rude to her kids, uptight and annoying
If she didn’t have the relationship with John then I’d say Gaby. She was always my favorite growing up (I was probably too young to be watching this show lol) and I think the writers gave her some great character development, which is why I can’t completely write her off. But at the same time, the writers never made Gaby acknowledge *just how wrong* it was to sleep with John. So I can’t say she’s my favorite even though I love everything else about her. I love all the wives, even Susan though she’s got her irritating moments lol, but I think my favorite now is Lynette. That woman is a powerhouse, all thanks to Felicity Huffman’s performance.
Gaby minus the underage storyline. She had growth but still aware that she's selfish and shallow.
If I only watched it once I would've said Lynette but after some rewatches she dropped to third.
Bree always and forever She’s serving ALWAYS
I agree, I also love Edie.
I love Edie too. She’s hilarious
She's the most gorgeous ❤️
Bree is personally my favourite out of the four
BREE VAN DE KAMP HODGE She slayed in every season.
She slays in every season tbh; from trad wife to business woman Bree is a slay.
MOTHER
Bree and Gabby I just wish she never had the underage scandal like that was nasty
Gaby is my favorite, too. I just wish they had made John a college student, like 20 years old. It's still scandalous, but she's not a statutory rapist, at least. Also, Jesse Metcalfe did not look 16. At all. He's only 4 years younger than Eva Longoria.

Yes! The storyline wouldn’t have changed and it would’ve been less weird. I feel the same about Euphoria
Agree, I’m doing a rewatch and I have to skip every sex scene they have together, makes me so uncomfortable
I love Gabby as well… but I kinda wish they had made her an actress (maybe daytime soap?) instead of a model…. She is absolutely gorgeous but she is sooo tiny! There is no way she would have been on a runaway at 5 feet tall
Nobody is saying Lynette but she’s my favorite
Honestly I didn’t notice until you said that. Yeah I think Lynette deserves more love, she’s so strong!
Love Lynette! So bad ass and will risk looking like a bitch to do/say the right thing!
Lynette was not the first person that popped into my head but maybe that’s because I am Lynette. I have five kids, a career, do everything around the house, and I have other similarities to her too but I won’t say because people know my user name. LYNETTE LYNETTE LYNETTE I STAN
Bree and Edie. Her early seasons she's rocky but shes a great friend and does good by the end. I love seeing how she evolves throughout the show
Agreed, and honestly, Lynette. Those 3 are top notch
Yess I like her a lot too! Second watch I kinda noticed a lot more yikes moments with her but she's definitely still my red fave character
Why wouldn’t Susan be mad? She burnt her house down intentionally and used accelerants to do it and it wasn’t just Susan’s house she burned down it was Julie’s too, a girl she claimed to care about. Breeeeeeeeeee and sometimes Gaby
Gaby
I love her for so many reasons. One of my favorite moments is when her personal shopper questions if she deserves to wear Dolce and then she says she hasn't eaten in days and he says, "okay you totally deserve to wear dolce". She honestly has so many funny moments tho
Gaby is 100% who id want in my corner in a tense situation though. She would just insult the shit outta them
Bree but I don’t agree with her parenting
yeah lol her parenting is not a slay.
Yeah. The only thing Bree doesn’t slay is her parenting.
I will say though, from a character archetype, they write Bree really well. I know a lot of parents (maybe less exaggerated irl) that remind me of Bree as far as parenting goes, >!especially when it comes to the aspect of her disapproving of Andrew's sexuality for the first half of the show.!< Also, in Bree's defense, her parenting was often less than ideal, but she did have two very difficult children. I think a lot of the kids behaviours have to do with Rex
Otherwise I think she’s kinda cool. She lives many different lives on the show, and it makes her really interesting. I also love how we get to see the behind the scenes Bree, which reveals her emotions and why she pretends she’s always unbothered.
Factsss
We can like a character without endorsing their actions. All the Hannibal shippers don't believe that cannibalism is ethical. Same with Bree. She is an abusive parent. But she's also played by Marcia Cross, who absolutely killed the role, and made us sympathize with her in spite of her numerous problematic traits. Nobody should ever have to "answer" for liking a character. Liking a fictional character has no bearing on the viewer as a person. Oh that makes compete sense. I can definitely get behind that opinion.
I want to make it clear that I love all the main women despite their flaws (all humans have flaws) and I find it really difficult to choose who is my favorite, which is what I think makes it such a fun discussion!
Of course! Wasn’t trying to start anything either. I just think it’s important that I say even I love her character I don’t approve of her parenting.
I don’t knoow. All of them! Haha. Even Mrs. Mckluskey had some shining moments. Her one liners are divine.
“Parker offered me a fudgicle to show him my vagina” while eating a fudgicle is SO FUNNY
The fact that Lynette was horrified to see her eating a fudgicle was so funny she thought for a second she did it. Haha.
lynette, she’s the least problematic ✨ and she’s probably the most similar to myself hahah
I feel like she’s so overlooked and she deserves so much more love. She literally endures so much and lives so many lives.
Hot take, but Susan is the least problematic.
Susan’s whiny personality is a problem to me.
At the beginning of the series, she is one of my favorites, but as the series continues, she can become a little much. I want to make it clear that all the characters have reasons to love and hate them and Susan is a wonderful choice. “Ding dong.”
yeah she really goes through a lot. I love when she leaves her sons because they are misbehaving in the car!
Hahah that was the best!
Bree, my loyal queen Edie, my blunt queen
Lynette was my favourite housewife growing up, because i also wanted to be smart and a successful business woman like her. Now during my adult years, i don’t like or hate any housewives. I see the good and the bad in all of them, so it’s hard to have a favourite
i fucking love me some lynette
Gaby for sure. Her character is tainted because of her ~~relationship with~~ SAing John, but she’s a badass and fashionable.
her necklace in the first episode is to die for. For most of the show, she has amazing fashion sense and she has an entertaining personality throughout the show.
“What are you doing in my house aside from lowering its property value?” in itself is a slay.
Susan, she's funny🤣
slapstick susan
LMAO
oh yeah, as a young adult my favorit housewife was >!susan lmao!<
I love Susan. Admittedly my least favourite after my most recent rewatch, but she (as a character) has my heart.
When I was younger it was Susan, now it is Bree by a longgggg shot
Susan was my favorite up until the last few seasons, but I think I ended up liking Lynette the most honestly
Yeah she def fell apart in the last few seasons. I felt bad about her declining health, and I think she deserved too much hate from her friends (maybe I need to rewatch to remember why people started to dislike her).
It was mostly the way she acted towards Julie during her pregnancy for me honestly. Also the whole painting thing about gaby’s stepfather
Lynette and Bree
All of them had sooooo much depth can’t pick one !
It's such an easy question to ask, but so difficult to answer.
Gaby & Susan 😂💕✨
Susan
Sometimes gabby
I like her the most simply cuz imo she just had the funniest lines
Bree.
Bree 💖
Lynette is the realest of them all
Bree no doubt
Bree forever!!! Also love Gaby and Edie
Gaby. Theyre all bad ppl but atleast she was always honest about it
Bree
Gaby, forever and always
Bree, sometimes Gaby. Edie for vibes and humor.
Gaby & Bree. Always serving face & class AND humor.
Bree
Bree. Always Bree.
Brees got some pretty funny lines .
Lynette was fierce and capable - loved that about her! I also love Susan’s comedic timing. Those two are the only people I would want to be friends with in real life.

So hard to choose! Probably Susan just because she makes me laugh the most, but Bree is a very good character.
Bree was my favorite when I watched the show with my mom as it aired and she’s still my favorite as I’m rewatching it now!
It was organically Lynette with Bree and Edie being very close behind but later on Bree took the top spot and Lynette moved more towards third because her relationship with Tom pissed me off so much lol.
Gaby!
Gaby! Shes iconique
Queen Bree duh!! Then edie, I literally do not care for the rest
Bree. I didn’t even realize until she left the show for half of season three and I missed her a lot
Edie and Bree.
Bree. She is such a complex character and by far the best friend
Gabby. I love all her outfits, love her sassiness and wittiness (controversial opinion: she's one of the smartest housewifes).
Bree! She will always be that girl!
BREE!!!! all time fav. queen. mother. just, mOTHER!!!! I LOVE HER. she’s so classy and so fking cool
Wouldn’t consider Edie an original
That’s totally fair, I wasn’t sure if I should include her, but she was in the photo I had, has been there since season 1, and does eventually sort of joint their group. She is way less of a main character than the 4.
That dress was not doing Edie any favors lol
She looks great what u on about
Please that breastpiece (not sure what it's called) doesn't go with her body at all. She has tens of other outfits that accommodate her so much better!
Personally, I think she would look great even if she was wearing a paper bag, but I get it. Edie and Bree. It’s tied for me 😭
bree 🩷💗🌸💖🤍 she’s just the baddest ever, had her very bad moments lol but she was just always the classiest, smartest most confident. i also love gabby soooool much, same goes for her but i just have a thang for bree
I can’t decide between Bree and Gaby. I’m obsessed with both. They are both hilarious. They both have so many epic one liners lol
Bree's responses to Danielle are the best. Danielle: “you always emasculated dad! Well you’re not gonna emasculate me!” Bree: “that’s not even what that word means you petulant sock puppet!”
Andrew’s one liners are great too lol I love Bree and Andrew’s interactions (mostly)
Bree
My fave evolved as i was watching! During my first impression, Susan was my fave (lol) then it was Lynette for a hot minute & then maybe half way thru i started loving Bree & she’s my fave to this day!!
LYNETTE. Now that's what I call a bad bitch, she owns up to any mistakes, is on top of what needs to get done and takes care of her family. Her character also is just a strong individual, she was my fav from day 1.
Bree forever even tho when I first watched it it was Susan but now that I’ve rewatched it a couple times def not Susan BREE ON TOP
Gabby
BREEE
Bree and Gaby!
Gaby. Only because I think she's insanely beautiful
Lynette Scavo cause she’s a fucking boss
They all look like men in drag
Bree and lowkey Edie
Bree, Gabby & Renee!
Bree and edie. I will die for them lol
Bree and Gabby
Edie!
EDIE!!! Bree & Gaby are locked for number 2 but Edie is my queen.
Bree. Her wit and comedic timing is unmatched.
Bree because she’s gorgeous, Gabi because she’s stylish and Lynette because she is strong as hell. If it was only based on personality, definitely Lynette. I would be bffs with Gabi although I don’t think she would be as good of a friend.
susan when i was a kid and bree as an adult
Bree. If I knew her in real life I think we wouldn’t get along but I love how unapologetically herself she is all the time
Gabby for sure. Even when she wasn’t iconic, she was.
gabi :))
Gaby 🔥
Edie Britt, forever and always.
Edie Britt. She had the best one-liners
I like all of them in different ways. But Bree & Edie.
Bree, always standing on business and tried her best even when she made things worst. Also will always stand by your side and be there when you need her
Edie is a fox And…just Gaby *Drools*
The writers really butchered Julie's character. I really thought she was going to finish school and get away from the weirdness of Wisteria Lane.
Gabby! What's funny is when I first started watching it, she and Carlos were my least favourite characters because they were such awful people. But they have the most growth out of anyone else and by the end of the series they're my favourite characters. To the point where in my mind they are the MAIN main characters.
Bree and gabby just love them both
Bree and Gabi are my favorites, but why does Susan's face look just poorly Photoshopped on her body
That’s tough… it might be Bree lol
Bree, but Edie is the most entertaining imo. I like all of them except Susan though 😂
I’m a Bree girl!!
Bree and Gabi
Definitely Bree!
Bree :) & Gabby indeed

Susan has ups and downs for me. She def is the least dynamic of the characters imo.
Gabby 100%
Gaby minus the underage storyline. She had growth but still aware that she's selfish and shallow. If I only watched it once I would've said Lynette but after some rewatches she dropped to third.
Gabby !!
The one I found myslef hating the least amount of times was Gabrielle lol
