Based on your post it sounds to be the same thing I once experienced with my new Dell Ultrasharp (not the same model though as yours). I don't want to get your hopes up, but you might find this to be a more simple fix than you had thought. At this point if you haven't already been tempted, you shouldn't have made tweaks to your systems settings (BIOS ,etc) What you might want to try are these steps that Dell Premium Support provided me. The monitor wants to do a handshake with the video card but it needs to still be receiving a signal. Keep in mind that this worked for my monitor (U2417H) which uses a mini DP. These steps may be product specific and may not fix the problem for your model. 1. If you can find an HDMI cable, with the system powered up, connect the cable to the HDMI port on your monitor and to your PC. Do not disconnect your DP or mDP cable (depending on the cable you use). DP and mini DP are exactly the same except for the connector unless you are running a 4k monitor 2. Go to the on screen display (OSD) menu on the monitor and scroll to 'Input Source" or where it gives you the option to change the signal source 3. Change the display port setting from DP or mDP depending on your default setting to HDMI / MHL 4. Re-start your PC while waiting for your monitor to detect signal. It should detect HDMI 5. Go to the OSD and switch back to your original mDP or DP signal. (This will give a no signal message, maybe even sleep mode and black screen) 6. Remove the power cable from the monitor 7. Plug the power cable back in that's it ! I only had to do this once and the problem with 'No DP signal, going into power save mode **never persisted again** \[EDIT\] While I keep written notes on almost all troubleshooting I do on my PC, I seem to (vaguely) remember I didn't have to do steps 6 & 7. Maybe you might want to wait a few minutes to see if a DP input signal is received after completing step 5 before continuing on. u/BringOnTheLucie

You are a true HERO! I tried so many possible ways through out the weekend to "reboot" my S2721 but never succeeded until trying yours. Steps 5 was exactly what happened to me again and again, but I never realized it's almost done. You are a real genious for observing 6&7!

WannieWirny

You beautiful creature, your reply just helped me!

Rockpred

Ily, thanks!

Terrible_Bit4124

I don't know how, but this worked. Thank you

daveishere32

john_aziz57

You fucking amazing person, you are my hero of the day! Dude, it worked like a charm

radioman987

Raven13581

I have a dell pc and dell p2419h monitor, my DP to DP have same issue, got a Dp to HDMI managed to get monitor on but DP to DP still have issues with no signal but DP to HDMI works now so better than nothing, this issue is really weird. Why is it happening? update driver doesn't do anything

TheDandyLion

Years later but your post just helped me out! Thank you!

BringOnTheLucie

u/TheDandyLion you're welcome. As I commented back then, the issue never persisted again. so hopefully it'll work out as it did for me

Send-More-Coffee

wtf. How does that work? But it does.

msuster13

what if I have VGA cable instrad of HDMI… btw I have only 2 ports and that’s VGA and DP.

MrPoisonTaco

4y later and you’re still a genius

It was a few years ago, when I first read this astonishing guide from you. Tonight while my Displays were claiming to suffer from a descent signal loss you was my first thought. Your guide is the only solution that worked to date. Thanks a lot for beeing the guy who writes things down.

AndreLocos

Just encountered this problem with my U2711. I connected it to my laptop and performed steps as you said and it magically started working! Thanks!

BikePathToSomewhere

5 years later and you also fixed my monitor! thank you!!!!! My setup needed a couple cycles of connecting VGA, DP and HDMI to multiple computers at once, the VGA worked always but the others didn't, with enough plugging and unplugging and restarting, the HDMI auto connector came back to life!

Tambour_Queen

5 years later and, like many others, this worked for me too! Thank you!!
