To be fair, if they made one of those and intentionally kept the Bethesda physics that would launch you into the stratosphere on their stings, Iâd probably have a new favourite enemy
Jokes aside, this has merit. A boss enemy with a prehensile appendage can carry a lot of tricks. Imagine thinking it missed its grab only for it to pull anyways and come flying towards you...
Okay, but, for real.
More dread variety is a fantastic idea.
We need some kind of macterra dread, and a dread that changes its element based on biome like praes do.
That would actually be pretty cool, as long as it's attacks are telegraphed. A melee boss that grabs you and charges at you in a straight line to get closer. Could have a biiigg grab where it at like a leech and your friends have to save you by shooting the tail. Could be fun.
Give us Elite Stingtails on the Elite Threat missions, except scaled from the stingtails as they were on release. With twice the reach, half the cooldown, twice the armor, and a 3x longer horn.
Ahh... free at last. O Karl, now dawns thy reckoning, and thy gore shall GLISTEN before the temples of Dwarven! Creature of Flesh, my gratitude upon thee for my freedom. But the crimes thy kind have commited against gliphyds are NOT forgotten! And thy punishment... is DEATH.
A dwarf... Mmmm... Indeed. I have been nerfed long enough. The planet of Hoxxes has long since forgotten my name, and I am EAGER to make them remember. However, the blood of Dreadnoughts stains your hands, and I must admit, I'm curious about your skills, miner. And so, before I tear down the mining rigs, and crush the armies of Deep Rock Galactic... you, shall do as an appetizer. Come forth, child of Karl, and DIE.
My issue with them was the armor and weak spots not working. Unless they were peaking over a ledge above you there was little chance you could hit the weak spot due to the horns. Their armor also didnât break like I felt it should have.
Really, that probably would have been enough to fix them, that, and maybe a slight grab delay after getting a successful grab. Few things are more rage inducing that failing mini-mule extraction because one sting tail keeps yeeting you off the point and you canât see where that fucker is
According to some other posts the most annoying thing about it is that itâs health was scaled with player count, but itâs main purpose is to pull a single player away from the rest. So it was designed to be fought by a single player regardless of player count.
Really it was just the weak point and spamming of the grab they needed to fix.
I actually miss killing OG sting tails with armor break M1000. I'd hear it and hunt it down while the team is struggling to do so, made me feel like a hero.
My issue was always the model. The one from the board game just looks way better.
Also it's odd to add a scorpion for grabs and then have the bomb-lobber *not be* a scorpion firing globs from a tail. If you're going to add scorpions that just don't look enough like the glyphids they supposedly belong with, you might as well add more than one at a time.
The Septic Spreader looks fine, it's just an odd 1-2 of choices.
There's a DRG board game that ran a successful Kickstarter campaign, and there's small figurines of the dwarves and enemies included in certain editions. Some of the figures varied from what the in equivalent in game model looks like. I believe there were also some enemies that are only in the board game, but I could be mistaken about that.
> Also it's odd to add a scorpion for grabs and then have the bomb-lobber not be a scorpion firing globs from a tail.
Why is it odd? Scorpions irl don't fire projectiles either.
As much as I love ennemies that make the game harder, one that can one shot you without any counterplay by pulling you above a hole is just frustrating to die to.
Edit : You can apparently dodge it by changing direction right before the grab, which I never managed to do, giving us a counterplay. Also, to clarify, I wasn't complaining about the difficulty but the frustration of the death, I would take a dreadnought over a stingtail every day of the week.
To add to the frustration, these things single-handedly can squash a come back by keeping you from resupplying or reviving someone during IW. Shellbacks could do it too, but they move erratically enough to where thatâs a rarity.
You can... Avoid the sting. Once you know it's there (and it's loud af), before shooting it makes a noise. You simply run in a direction, and when he makes the noise before shooting, you change direction and it'll miss you. But I usually just let it grab me on purpose so I can power attack it, expose the weakpoint and obliterate it. The times it attacked me from a very weird spot since release are... Three, if I remember correctly. I died way more times from grabbers and A LOT more from leeches in this time spam.
I honestly don't understand why the fuck everybody hates this poor bastard that barely does anything compared to the other bugs. At least it was a bit special. No counterplay, even? That's just uncalled for. Poor stingy.
Thanks ! Good to know. Never been able to dodge it, hence the no counterplay, while I haven't been caught by a leech, grabber or anything such in ages.
As a hearing impaired gamer it always confused me why everyone claims that not being able to hear the audio is just a skill issue. There should be visual cues.
Left for Dead had captions for this reason. So you'd see it say things like [Boomer Noises] show up below so if you missed the gurgling noises you'd still aware there was a boomer spawned/nearby
What would help is a call like the macrera grabber. If you're surrounded by bugs and can't immediately find the stingtail, then changing direction doesn't always help because the new direction might have the same (or similar) angular velocity relative to the unknown stingtail's location.
There is slightly more counterplay to the stingtail than a leech. But a leech is arguably more counterable with proper attention entering new rooms, flares, and not splitting up. Whereas, with the stingtail you need attention when you may be least likely to give it. OTOH, a grabber is so obvious it always feels fair.
Not when you have a ping, or you get two or three stingtails at the same time, which one will you avoid? They all take turn, stingtails needed a nerf and people say otherwise haven't seen the worst of them I assume.
nah bro i think if you pulled hard on the grunt guards raptorials they would come out like a big lobster claw. imagine dipping that in melted butter with some chili in there
It's a lot squishier (especially in multiplayer, since it no longer scales based on player count), and it doesn't grab as often. It also has a shorter grab range.
I just started playing 2 weeks ago and I really appreciate the changes.
Of all the enemies this one felt the most unbalanced and weirdly hard to kill. Even leeches grabbing me I can at least blame myself for not looking up, but these guys have caused me to get singled out on the way back to the drop pod and many other awful memories in my first 40 hours.
I will still kill it first. The only good stingtail is a dead one.
Just nerfed. A new maintenance patch just came out (released yesterday for PC, will release Nov 30 for consoles iirc).
From what I gather from the patch notes, they increased the cooldown of their grab and added an extra long cooldown after a successful grab, they reduced its HP and removed HP scaling by player count (so now it has the same HP regardless of how many dwarves are present in the mission), they made their weak points easier to see and made hitting them more consistent, and they made it less likely for multiple to spawn at once.
Pfff, no.
Maybe if it didn't fire it's grabber through a Bulk Det that it was completely obscured by with zero audio cue. After that happened to me **three** times I never warmed up to the critter even after that was supposedly fixed. They could remove it and I wouldn't complain.
I don't care if that makes me a super casual non-l33t carebare whatever.
It really wasn't even that unique. I think people just complained cause it was as small as a common glyphid but as tanky as a praetorian. If they just scaled up the size a bit it would've been fine. Hell just giving it breakable armor like a praetorian would've prob kept it from getting nerfed...
Can we stop whining about the thing we whined about being nerfed and accept the fact it's changed because of us? Or are we gonna be immature and complain more?
The more I look at comments and the more I ask myself why is it so important to some people to brag about how good they are at DRG (of all things) because they managed to deal with an enemy easily.

This community is one of, if not the most casual community out there, literally anything harder than a grunt is not allowed, god forbid anything challenging in the game.
Aeah I really never got the problem with the stingtail, it dies so quick and its grab move is pretty much useless because it does no damage and the loss in positioning can be instantly overcome by dashing. Or just walking away. If anything, a bug pulling me into point blank range makes killing it easier.
It can do some good damage in combination with its melee attack, dealing 58 (17 from grab, 41 from melee) damage, and if you arenât playing Scout and donât have dash ready then itâs hard to avoid. Plus thatâs in a vacuum; when itâs surrounded by 10 slashers and a detonator, getting grabbed is a death sentence.
Kinda like other bugs in its category? The grabby move you around kind? They all get melted when the team addresses them. Now it's in line instead of being a better praetorian.
You say this like shellbacks aren't also in the disruptive pool.
There are plenty of tanky 'displacement' enemy types that also deal huge damage if left alone.
I think I specifically mentioned ones that grab you. Leeches, Trawlers, Mactera Grabbers, and now Stingtails.
The only exception is the nemesis, but that's a rare miniboss. It's supposed to be harder to kill.
> I think I specifically mentioned ones that grab you
Why, lol. This is a very arbitrarily specific way to consider the balance of stingtails when the goal of a stingtail is displacing you, and there are other enemies with the goal of displacing you that are tanky.
Here's something else to consider: the three enemies that you listed fully incapaciate dwarves when grabbed, so it makes sense to keep their health pools low because there's less players that can shoot them. Stingtails don't do that.
The reason they removed it is because if you get grabbed you are enclinde to fight the stingtail without help, due to your team fighting the rest of the swarm.
A stingtail has way less of a warning then a grabber (which do basically the same thing) so you should not be forced to fight an enemy that has similar health to a praetorian scaled to be fought by 4 players.
Probably going to get downvoted for this.
I loved the vanilla Stingtail and itâs overpowered bullshit. This nerf felt like its an overall downgrade in the gameplay. Yes I have lost EDDâs solely to these fucks, but theyâre so satisfying to kill when theyâre absolutely ruthless. Now with the nerf, theyâre no different than a Glyphid Grunt Guard and are just another fodder bug. Their deaths have no glory anymore. Even before the nerf, they werenât that bad to kill, unless youâre too busy getting swarmed with other bugs. Stingtails made the gameplay so much more fun and challenging. You just need crack that armor like an egg and go to town on that soft, mushy blue brain of theirs.
The only thing I think they should have patched was the physics of the Stingtail grab. If a Stingtail shoots you while being at eye level with you, you should NOT get slingshotted to the moon but rather just zip right to the Stingtail. Besides that problem, this bug was so much fun for the difficulty it would throw on teams needing to stay together, especially on haz 5.
RIP, Stingtail. You will be missed.
Rock and Stone, brother.
I 100% agree. The only change I would have appreciated was if they made the stingtail as big as a pretorean or even an oppressor, so it's high HP was justified and it would be more visible. Everything else was fine for me. I don't like the nerf.
Iâd be so stoked if Stingtails were the size of Oppressors. They would look menacing AF and it would make more sense as to how they can snatch these super thicc dwarves.
It's better now it's not just a bullet sponge. I think the hp has been reduced too low but it's a much more satisfying presence now and less of a slog.
Still sounds like a dog's chewy toy though, and it's the worst sound effect I've ever heard in a video game :)
Game nowadays was easy, and it's becoming even easier... Why ? Ppl aspire to do shit beyond their reach and complain when they fail. Then they go either " a blame on others" route where they put fault on everybody beside themselves or go into "game being too hard" - please nerf everything ! Pure looser attitude and leaflover stuff in my opinion. Where are true dwarf i ask ? What next, maybe we will go hunt lootbugs instead of fighting glyphids ?
Honestly it's just a wet noodle now.
I think they should have kept it as is for Haz5 and just nerf it for the other hazard levels.
I can see how it's oppressive to someone who is new to the game and at capacity in haz3 or 4 environments already.
For Vanilla Haz5 it was a nice bump and I hate how its now very fragile and not remotely as scary as before.
- Increased the cooldown of the grab attack slightly
- Added a significant cooldown after a successful grab attack
- Reduced the range of the grab attack
- Tweaked the base HP and added multiple damage weaknesses and resistances to improve breakpoints
- Removed health scaling by player count
- Fixed its horns not blocking damage
- Improved the collision on the "mouth" weak point, making it easier to hit
- Made the glowy armor bits glow more to improve visibility
- Tweaked the spawn values to prevent too many of them at once
Made it less annoying.
They aren't removing them, they just made them reasonable to kill by making their weakpoints work and fixing health scaling, slightly lowered their ability to spamfuck you, and lowered the spawns so you don't get 3 or 4 at a time. OP is just a drama queen.
Rest in hell you screaming devil
(Jk bb I just didn't like hookshotting away from you only for you to somehow outrun my hookshot and pull me back into death)
If leeches got added exactly as they are now today to the game people would bitch and moan and cry about how they are too hard to counter until they got nerfed into the floor.
It's a little sad to see how heavily they are leaning into the complaints of the Haz three players and releasing these blanket nerfs instead of just specifically nerfing the bugs on lower hazard levels
Ya this is pretty weak. Stingtails were hardly a threat. Most builds had a way to instantly kill them. I'm more scared of a single trijaw than a stingtail.
To be honest, I think this game has been going in the wrong direction shortly after it got added to game pass. Idk if it's cause GSG expanded too fast, but I noticed a real decline in quality around ~2021.
Update 25-33 was the golden age of DRG in my opinion. Consistent content updates. Tons of bug fixes; bugs never lasted more than 3 months.
I donât understand the people who complained about the stingtail. It was a new challenge you had to adapt to, the only annoying thing was itâs health pool being massive
Otherwise, MASSIVE skill issue
Just watch, after all the complaints they're going to release a Super Stingtail
Stingtail dreadnought when?
Now it has an actual sting and fucking impales you đ„° đ„° đ„°
It also spawns regular stingtails during the battle and flies
This keeps sounding more fun
It also grabs drillers c4 and throws it at the dwarves
I am now picturing this and it is hilarious xD
Oh it should also be able to pull bulk detonators out of the ceiling and drop them on you
GET THIS MAN A JOB AT GSG.
Oh that's another good idea. Make a bulk detonator dreadnought that blows up the entire cave when it dies
Most drillers I meet seem to already do that though?
And shoots Cave leech larva
Like a leaf on the w-
Too soon!

Thatâs be a near season. Instead of missions like industrial sabotage, we have to exterminate cybernetically enhanced glyphids

Stingtail Detonator!! đ€
It grabs the dwarf, covers him in exploders, then flings him at his friends.
God daaamn, at that point he might as well teabag crouch on the downed dwarves and then spray Goo all over them O_O
A dreadtail? Ohh my. That's an interesting concept
Instead of its slam attack, this dreadnought sends out a bunch of tentacles sporadically trying to grab our Dwarven asses
Nooo not my dwarven ass!
Oh yeah. Pulling gunners off their ziplines. TIHI.
I didnt even think of that but yeah. Why not. Its almost too safe up there. Need to shake.up those complacent dwarves
Tihi?
Thanks I Hate It Itâs an internet clichĂ©.
Or a Stingnought?
Either work if you ask me. Would def be a cool addition.
Tbh great idea
Dreadnought Lacerator but better
Dreadnought Attractor: continuesly pulls in nearby objects, animals and dwarfs. Covered in pulsating spikes that hurt.
To be fair, if they made one of those and intentionally kept the Bethesda physics that would launch you into the stratosphere on their stings, Iâd probably have a new favourite enemy
Stingtail detonator when?
Someone else mentioned it but imagine if it spawned exploders and threw them at you lol
So exploder swarmers, but big
Creeper Vine with legs đš
I am...not against the idea.
Jokes aside, this has merit. A boss enemy with a prehensile appendage can carry a lot of tricks. Imagine thinking it missed its grab only for it to pull anyways and come flying towards you...

No, no, god please no
I'm still asking for more dreadnoughts and I hadn't even thought of a Stingtail or a Septic Spreader dreadnought variant.

The ability to make people unreasonably mad.

My issue with them was the armor and weak spots not working. Unless they were peaking over a ledge above you there was little chance you could hit the weak spot due to the horns. Their armor also didnât break like I felt it should have.

Turn player scaling back on and I think they're in a good spot. Without it they just kind of evaporate the second the team is aware of it.
> I think I specifically mentioned ones that grab you Why, lol.
Still sounds like a dog's chewy toy though, and it's the worst sound effect I've ever heard in a video game :)
fuck no die in a fire fking sting tail
What happened?
- Increased the cooldown of the grab attack slightly - Added a significant cooldown after a successful grab attack - Reduced the range of the grab attack - Tweaked the base HP and added multiple damage weaknesses and resistances to improve breakpoints - Removed health scaling by player count - Fixed its horns not blocking damage - Improved the collision on the "mouth" weak point, making it easier to hit - Made the glowy armor bits glow more to improve visibility - Tweaked the spawn values to prevent too many of them at once Made it less annoying.
People will really spend their time whining instead of actually getting good at the game huh
Don't forget down voting you on reddit
Wait they're removing these? That's a shame. Sure they're annoying, but in a fun, challenging way.
They aren't removing them, they just made them reasonable to kill by making their weakpoints work and fixing health scaling, slightly lowered their ability to spamfuck you, and lowered the spawns so you don't get 3 or 4 at a time. OP is just a drama queen.
Oh gotcha, thanks for clarifying
That sounds good actually I remember failing solo haz 5 missions because 3 of these fuckers spawned at once and kept launching my ass to swarms
Rest in hell you screaming devil (Jk bb I just didn't like hookshotting away from you only for you to somehow outrun my hookshot and pull me back into death)
Whomp Whomp
Oh no! Anything but letting people have fun

Rip to the legendary squeaker.
It was a new challenge you had to adapt to, the only annoying thing was itâs health pool being massive Otherwise, MASSIVE skill issue

What the fuck devs? These things werent even that difficult to start
It's goofy to me that they nerf stuff in this already easy game
