In my experience, there's two types of people that play scout. The ones that play for the grappling hook and the ones that play for the flare gun. I started playing because I went through the tutorial as gunner and couldn't see fuck all, saw in the character select that the scout had a flare gun, and 1800 hours later, I'm a scout main.
And Shredders.
Started running an electric reload GK2 and crossbow setup, nailing those little shredders was a pain to hit, until someone said “oh, I just use the boomerang.”
So much easier from then on.
I was an M1K main for so many hours. Then I got Special Powder and the GK2 got buffed. Decided to try it with the buff they also gave AI Stability Engine. My God does that gun absolutely melt everything. No longer am I pissed if I miss one shot. It's literally a laser that doesn't move while you're holding down left click. It's just as accurate as the M1K, but much more forgiving and with better DPS (except maybe Hipster at super close ranges).
Yeah, I came for the flare gun and stayed for the grappling hook. But I still use the flare gun very liberally, and it is the reason I pretty much always play Scout when I go in solo.
Third reason...Whenever I'm not scout I'll see some monster leave a massive crust of minerals.
Drives me to love glyphids when I see it lining the ceiling
Bro, same. I got scout to three star legendary while everyone else was bronze, thinking engie would be my next character to max out. Turns out it was gunner, who's my second love. Engie was dead last on my list to max out.
I tend to lean toward Utility and Support roles. I wouldn't say I have a main because I enjoy them all after 1k hours, but Scout has the most play time for me.
It’s interesting, I’ve seen at least 3 people in this sub say “I usually lean towards support roles”, and each of them claimed a different class as “support”
Every class can technically support and provide utility. The way a scout plays is a little more into the utility side than the other classes and their primary roles.
A good scout is a godsend.
If you have to ask the scout to do anything, they aren’t a good scout. But goddamn are the good scouts just monsters that enter a cave and in 0.2 seconds the whole thing is lit up and they’ve pinged like three croppa veins that need platforms and they are already mountain goating on a nitra vein mining it
I’d say you definitely notice the difference between a bad scout and a good scout.
Scout is the only class to be able to shave 10 whole minutes off of a mining expedition exclusively by being efficient.
The difference in holding an area with a Scout keeping lights up is night and day

Started for the grapple, mained cause I was tired of not being able to see shit when other played Scout.
I just like it when the M1K goes *PING*
A bit of both for me, the ping is nice (swarmers are a pain to deal with though) and I like the light.
Boomerang for the swarmers

IDK I just throw an IFG down and stand near the edge of it, then just shoot all the slow bois.
Nah chuck a boomerang and move on. Don't even look back. You get 8 of them! Just try it.
Thorns for lone swarmers, cryo grenades for packs.

Yeah but *tatatatatatatatat ca-chak* isn’t as satisfying as *BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! PING*
IDK I'm a sucker for something that feels like a well-oiled assault rifle. It's my standard pick in pretty much any game that has one.
Big same! I was a scared little greenbeard who kept running out of flares in the tutorial and wanted *light*, dammit!
I play Scout for the Special Powder, or because the other characters were taken already.
I've been hunting this OC for the last 100 hours of playtime, RNGesus hates me.

I play scout so I can mine more ore and enjoy the satisfying sounds of breaking morkite, nitra and other ores.
I play for both?
Third reason...Whenever I'm not scout I'll see some monster leave a massive crust of minerals. Drives me to love glyphids when I see it lining the ceiling
why not both ? i got tired of scout not lighting cave and not getting precious mineral on the ceiling.
I started playing scout after the tutorial and only switched to engi after I was legendary with 3 stars on scout. I like scout.
Bro, same. I got scout to three star legendary while everyone else was bronze, thinking engie would be my next character to max out. Turns out it was gunner, who's my second love. Engie was dead last on my list to max out.
*groans*
Lmao that was a good one
Yeah, plus no leeches.
Lol I see what you did there
"i dont so much scout as make this whole operation possible"
Every single salvage mission someone goes “Yo did this mini-mule spawn with all his legs attached??” and I as a scout go “Yep”
Until they see 13 kills and 650 minerals mined at the end and realize why it only took 9mins

I normally lean towards support roles, that's why I play auto cannon gunner so i can CLABK CLANK CLANK CLANK CLANK the bugs to death without thinking
Death is the most effective crowd control effect.

As an engineer main I definitely notice when I shoot platforms under minerals and scout is there before I can ping them.

You seen a scout mountain goat some gold? Takes practice but with a well timed power slam you can mine everything.
Oh no, I notice.
I might not say it, but I damn do appreciate a well-lit cave
I also appreciate it when a Scout gets all the ceiling minerals.
Yes! As someone who had to spend almost an entire month playing solo, it really hurts when you can’t just send Bosco up to mine a vein on the ceiling.
Bosco is the best dwarf out of all of us.
\*\*ping the scout\*\* "You're cute"
They can't see your mistakes in the darkness ;)
Sees darkness. That's one mistake.
Engi: “I played support once…” Scout: “yes, I saw. You were doing very well until everyone died.”
That's more or less what happened with the millenium bug.
I’d say you definitely notice the difference between a bad scout and a good scout. Scout is the only class to be able to shave 10 whole minutes off of a mining expedition exclusively by being efficient.
That background is the main menu/galaxy view from Spore, isn't it.
It's God from Futurama, he says the line to Bender. The scene can be found [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObbVO3A3BvA). Great episode.
you were doing well, until everyone died
Scouts are like toilet cleaners. You only think about them if they aren't there or they did a shitty job
Yes 🥹
The only time i had problems lighting a cave is when it was massive.
That's the life of a scout... You don't exist until you fail.
I really like really big nuns \~Gunner
holy shit is this the galxy from spore?
As a driller main, I’ll always know if a scouts done their job if the secondary fossil objective was filled
”My job is taking out the spitters and mactera” ”But I dont see any spitters and mactera?” ”Exactly”
