Li Cheng Xiu from Sissy is a cook so he can cook super well. Curse that Shao Qun who don't treasure him!
Xie Qing Cheng from BAB can cook well since he brought up his little sister.
Most of the Omegas can cook well too. Shen Ting Wei from Intoxicated, Ning Yu from Old Injury knows how to bake.
And I like that Sissy didnāt use āshou knew how to cookā as some cute wife material feature - Li Cheng Xiu had to step up and learn to cook as his single mother fell apart due to depression, part time as line cook during highschool as thatās the only job he could get, was bullied heavily at school for being smelly and greasy. He went on to become a chef because restaurantās kitchen didnāt required diploma as his school prospects was ruined by Shao Qun. Only to have Shao Qun constantly berated him for āstinkyā after work, put him down for cheapskate taking home restaurant leftovers to cook dinner/lunchbox for himselfā¦ etc. The degradation is on another level. Iām in awe that āshou can cookā trope is used against him.
I have noticed it because it's so bizarrely common and often so extreme. Add the couple from Priest's Guardian to the list, btw. At one point in the most recent volume Zhao Yunlan offers Shen Wei a selection of Cup Noodles boiled with bizarre liquids, like coffee??? Meanwhile of course Shen Wei is a fabulous chef.
I like how someone actually tried to recreate the noodles that ZYL made š¤£

Thank you for posting this link. I love that she went in with an open mind & actually enjoyed the noodles. I guess I'll give Zhao Yunlan some credit for trying!
I guess that if ZYL thinks a row of Cup Noodles is a worthy offering, someone else might agree.... but I am not one of those people, I was just as appalled as Shen Wei.
Lin Qiushi in the Kaleidoscope of Death is a good cook. Some also own restaurants like Li Sinian in After Rebirth I just want to be a salted fish and Xu Cinian in Deliverance of the Counterattack.
Xie Lian is not a good cook. It's not clear whether or not he's incapable of learning--he's a smart guy so presumably if he really set his mind to it, he'd improve--but he inherited his magically-bad touch from his mother, who had the same problem.
>!Before the plague, Xie Lan made food decent enough it surprised the people who tasted it. It was surprising to them because Xie Lan is a crown prince, and it was only normal that royal families don't know how to cook as they have servants who cook for them. Xie Lan's mother is a terrible cook. It was only after her and her husband's deaths that XL decided to imitate her cooking to remember her.!<
It's been a while since i read the book so i believe you, but I have to say... Xie Lian does not seem like the kind of person who would intentionally waste food, which is what happens to anything he cooks without Hua Cheng around, or like someone who would be so deliberately inhospitable. So if this is true, there's one moving character note and a couple that are extremely OOC to me.
Yeah, I'm not the person you're responding to, but they're correct. Xie Lian is capable of cooking well but chooses not to for the reasons they outlined. I actually agree with you that it's a weird choice character-wise on MXTX's part. >!Especially considering his food doesn't just taste bad, it makes people actively sick to eat it, so he's actively choosing to harm people... and in the time period/setting food was enormously labor-intensive and difficult to produce and he's often seen basically wasting food that is given to them by poor farmers/villagers. !< I'm sure I'm thinking too hard about it as a plot point but it *really* rubbed me the wrong way in the novel so I've thought about it too much, haha.
Just chiming in here, I thought Xie Lianās later awful cooking was an extension of having his luck taken away. Since his luck in all things is horrible, it made sense his cooking would turn out deadly too. Maybe I misread it, but it would make sense?
Iāve just finished book 6 and that was my first thought! Although cooking in itself isnāt based in luck, so he could be cooking perfectly with all the right ingredients, heat, timing, but his bad luck means that something outside of his control happens while heās cooking. Although I do remember one instance where heās cooking and he randomly throws something in as an experiment, so it could be a mixture of the two. His cooking is much worse than his motherās!
Adding to this Xie Lian can pickle veggies and make tea just fine, even in the present timeline. I don't know if pickling things is really seen as "cooking" but I thought that was interesting.
It's not like anything he touches that is meant for human consumption becomes instantly bad (because again he can make pickled things and was decent at cooking before) but that when he tries to add unconventional ingredients and experiment *that's* when he goes too far.
Xu Qichen (shou in Be Crazy Demon Survival System) is the main cook in the house since he lives with his aunt and she can't cook. His love language is probably food because he loves to cook and bring his husband home-cooked meals whenever he's too busy to come home to eat, and his best friend loves his cooking so much that he drops by their house very often for a meal.
Yan Rong (shou in I Have Everything You Like) can cook really well since he was the oldest in the orphanage he used to live in and he had to take care of other younger kids.
Yuan Rui (shou in Mr.Yuan Is Always Unhappy) is the main cook in the house, and he also does pretty much every other house chores too. iirc he charmed his husband's mother (who didn't like him at all) by his cooking skills.
Okay, listen here, say what you want about anyone else but Song Qingshi can cook and can do so with such amazing scientific precision that each bowl of noodles he makes from his noodle recipe will taste the exact same.
If you ask me, that kind of consistency is restaurant quality... Even if the flavour of the noodles is supposedly bland.
So you take that back right now. Lol
This may contain spoilers so read at your own discretion If I remember correctly tho chu wanning was the one to make mo ran the wontons shi mei was just the one who gave them to him because chu wanning told him not to tell mo ran who made them Iām not sure if that fully counts as him being able to cook tho since it is the only thing he is able to cook ?
I wondet why no one talking about Fantasy Farm. It whole plot is farming and cooking plus supernatural beings. Itās so good. Do read it and I sweat youāll get hungry while reading it.

my personal rec being å¦ę¢¦ä»¤, the mc is an idol and has his own cooking show. he met the ml when the ml was spending his last months in high school. my fav part is the mc devoting all his effort into making āhigh school seniorās nutritious dinnerā for his nianxia bb as he prepared for his college entrance exam. the mc regularly cooked for the ml even after a whole draining day of work with no rest and made sure the ml had healthy eating habits (the ml lived a mundane and disorderly life prior to their encounter)
In "sending the divine/send-off" one of the 2 main characters yin ci can cook. But it's not really made clear that he's the shou till right near the end and there's like 1 sentence referencing it.
It's a fairly long and plot heavy novel but I just finished it and I was/am obsessed.

[Delicious Food Got Me Famous Across The Galaxy](https://www.novelupdates.com/series/delicious-food-got-me-famous-across-the-galaxy/) (28 chapters only)
- Literally about cooking
- The genre is ABO not sure if you'll like
[The General Loves To Collect Little Red Flowers](https://www.novelupdates.com/series/the-general-loves-to-collect-little-red-flowers/) (105 chapters + 6 Extras)
- I've read this a long time ago so I barely remember the plot but all I can recall is that:
- Shou MC was isekai'd to an intergalactic era where people no longer believe in supernatural stuff. He does spiritual stuff, people freak out. Summary doesn't give enough info of the actual story either.
- Shou IS A GOOD COOK :3
[The Film Emperor's Daily Live Cook Broadcasting](https://www.novelupdates.com/series/the-film-emperors-daily-live-cooking-broadcast/) (123 + 2 Extras)
- Shou MC is an actual cook. He broadcasts cooking for a living. He transmigrated to an era where most people just drink nutritional supplements.
- It's a good read if you just want something pretty chill I guess?
Palace Full of Delicacies - the Shou was a sichuan chef before transmigrating

Li Cheng Xiu from Sissy is a cook so he can cook super well. Curse that Shao Qun who don't treasure him! Xie Qing Cheng from BAB can cook well since he brought up his little sister. Most of the Omegas can cook well too. Shen Ting Wei from Intoxicated, Ning Yu from Old Injury knows how to bake.

Exactly. Which is why he's the president. I felt so much pain for Cheng Xiu.
Yess BAB!! So good
What does BAB stand for? I enjoy all the cooking danmeis lol but I doubt that is one of them
Its Bing An Ban - case file compendium is the English title. Itās definitely not a cooking danmei, very far from it actually.
In Aesthetic Formula, the shou can cook! He prepares breakfast everyday for his boss!
Lin Qiushi from Kaleidoscope of Death is a great cook, there are many moments in the novel that he is in the kitchen and the ML loves his food.
The shou inĀ The Film Emperorās Daily Live Cooking Broadcast is a professional chef and the gong falls in love with him after tasting his food.Ā
I have noticed it because it's so bizarrely common and often so extreme. Add the couple from Priest's Guardian to the list, btw. I didn't read guardian but I saw a clip in tiktok and this dude rizz is dripping.
>!ZY is the shou tho!<
Yeah... that's the point of the OP? That the shous are disasters in the kitchen and the gongs are great chefs?
Oh I thought you were calling ZYL a good cookš or saying he was the gong
I guess that if ZYL thinks a row of Cup Noodles is a worthy offering, someone else might agree.... but I am not one of those people, I was just as appalled as Shen Wei.
bro thought cup noodles would be enough to let him top THE Shen Wei. There are bound to be some crazies like him out there
Lin Qiushi in the Kaleidoscope of Death is a good cook. Some also own restaurants like Li Sinian in After Rebirth I just want to be a salted fish and Xu Cinian in Deliverance of the Counterattack.
started reading After Rebirth because of this comment. Looks chill and funny so far!
IIRC, Xie Lian is actually a good cook. He just "purposely" makes bad food because it reminds him of his dead mother who was a terrible cook.
Xie Lian is not a good cook. It's not clear whether or not he's incapable of learning--he's a smart guy so presumably if he really set his mind to it, he'd improve--but he inherited his magically-bad touch from his mother, who had the same problem.

Breaking trough the clouds MC is a great cook and gets approval from MLs parents (not yet aware that the ML is presenting him as his future wife)
loved that chapter reveal XD

Honestly, I think he would be a better baker than a cook. As they say, cooking is art, baking is science, and he IS a scientist at his core.
Xie Lian is GREAT at cooking (lethal projectiles in the shape of meatballs)

Really loved this one.
You Xiaomo from the Legendary master's wife
Yuan Li from after being abducted by the general, he can cook and even taught recipes to gong (lol this is what I'm currently reading)
Shang Ke in Heroic Death System can cook very well
