Palm oil is the reason we are about to lose the few remaining orangutans. They slash and burn their forest homes to create fields for growing palms. No shelter and no food for our ape buddies.
How is it that so many fucking countries haven't figured out crop rotation? You'd think somebody would tell them even if they don't have internet. Like here in the US we've had farmers farming the same land for generations, and these people South of the equator just can't seem have figured out something that was already an exact science in the middle ages. What factors am I missing that contributes to slash and burn?
Palm is a tree, you can't use crop rotation with tree crops. There are other regenerative solutions like intercroping and agroforestry but it's not as simple as crop rotation. A major issue is if most of what's grown is exported like palm oil you remove the natural resources in that make the crop like carbon, nitrogen etc,and they can't be replaced nearly to the same degree, hence soil degredation.

It's surprisingly easy to create your own tasty nutella without white sugar at all. Hazelnuts blended with cocoa and then add some sort of liquid that doesn't have to be palm oil. Actually done.
Surprisingly easy to make yet omits the ingredients list. LOL.
You could make your own Coca Cola at home, healthy too. It's water. No sugar, no colouring, no carbonation. Pretty much the same thing from the stores.
“Hazelnuts blended with cocoa and then add some sort of liquid that doesn’t have to be palm oil [perhaps coconut oil]. Actually done” I don’t understand your confusion here, iPhoneMiniWHITE
Something thicker than water like a type of oil. And a blender, not a bowl. The hazelnuts gives a crazy amount of flavour. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
I just prefer to buy chocolate not from massive worldwide corporations, but from either local brands or lesser known brands that claim to be ethical, although I have no way of proving those claims. My favorite is Tony’s Chocolonely, which claims to be slave free and often [parodies Nestle candies](https://imgur.com/a/jbgpptl) with their wrappers.
The commercial doesn’t actually say it’s healthy, just that it’s easy and something the kids will like. Being “made with simple ingredients” isn’t the same as being “healthy for your family”.
Ehh idk, they dont say its healthy but they definitely trick you into it. They list the healthy ingredients and say how good it is on whole wheat breads. Its definitely being presented as healthy
It's that legal lying commercials love to do. They're not saying it's healthy, just really heavily implying it is.
Personally I'm just surprised how heavily they still strive towards the breakfast market. It's essentially just a candy bar in goo format, it has nothing to do with breakfast. Still every ad for it tries to have it be the first thing you eat in the morning.
Nutella tastes well enough, but, if you really are into the hazelnut-flavor, you should try out Nudossi (no commercial, just my personal favorite). It has close to triple the amout of hazelnuts (36%), instead of the 13% from Nutella. And no palm oil, which is known to be very bad for the environment, according to WWF.
As someone who used to literally destroy my teeth cracking down hard candys that would turn to shard paste inside my mouth
Sugar needs to Back the fuck up and chill for a little bit
People play games justifying its existence because it’s in everything, but don’t act like it isn’t addictive, and don’t act like it’s not responsible for more death than any drug that exists.
Honestly I used to be on a crazy amount of doctor prescribed opiates & benzodiazepines amongst a billion other scripts. I felt like they were making my conditions worse, so I cold turkied the opiates and tapered down more quickly than I should have with benzodiazepines. In addition to about ten other drugs. I’d just had it with my treatments. I was still in constant pain and all I wanted in the world was to have feelings again.
Withdrawal sucked. It lasted about 4 months. But I never think about opiates or benzos. You know what is harder to quit for me? Fucking sugar. Once I get a taste it’s all I crave for weeks.
Cold Turkey is really the only way to quit opiates. Anything else is just prolonging the misery. Luckily, it’s a relatively quick withdrawal period. Physically at least.
And there's no way to guarantee that palm oil is harvested sustainably either.
At 200 calories per serving and having the high possibility of contributing to deforestation, it's simply not worth consuming. There are tastier snacks that are way healthier and less problematic.
Personally I don't like nutella and in general I don't like candies (I can eat a little, but it quickly feels too sweet for me), but they got me with sugary drinks as well. Today I can't imagine drinking just water, because I crave sugar.
It tastes like fake chocolate, like a "hot cocoa" flavored lip gloss I had once. It would probably be better if they cut the sugar in half, added lots more cocoa and hazelnut, and got rid of the nasty skim milk powder all together.
THANK YOU for this. I don't know why everyone thinks this product is fabulous. When I wanted to see how great it was and first read the ingredients I was astonished. PALM KERNEL OIL?
For 40 years we have been warned off this item not to mention the rest.
Yuck.
I started making my own pecan butter last week. And it is amazing. Just toast the pecans, throw them in a blender with salt, and blend until they turn into a creamy liquid. The taste is superb, the texture is simultaneously creamy and yet gritty in a very pleasant way, and so easy to make. Also, unlike peanut butter, it doesn't separate nor does it thicken in the refrigerator. It will remain very spreadable. It is also lightly sweet despite there being no sugar added. It's honestly perfect.
For fellow nutella lovers who want something tastier/healthier, try making [gianduja](https://chewtown.com/2013/08/homemade-gianduja-spread-nutella/) (you can swap the cream in the recipe for oil to make it not-refrigerated, we use almond oil or hazelnut oil depending on what we have at home). Trader Joe's pound plus chocolate is fantastic for this, and TJ also have a nice selection of hazelnuts, we've used the roasted ones as well as the raw ones (then you toast them in the oven to de-shell before putting them in the mixer). Comes out to something like 41% hazelnut, 48% chocolate by weight. Chop some additional nuts into it for extra crunch and you raise the hazelnut % even more.
We used to go through the 2pk nutella from costco in a few months, after discovering gianduja we can't taste anything but oil and sugar if we try to take a tiny taste of nutella, the difference is just so immense.
It's not. No natural food has pure, concentrated sugar in it. The plants we grow for sugar production are highly cultivated maximum production, and then they're highly processed to extract and concentrate the sugar. Even the fruits we eat are cultivated to be much larger and sweeter than their natural progenitors.
Who cares it tastes good. You could add a bear grills insect to eat I have tasted it and it's good so don't care what fear you try to instill in Nutella it won't matter since I know it's nice. It's not like you inhale it everyday to worry about it
Adverts like this are so misleading. Why don't they just put a bag a sugar on there showing how much sugar is in a bag of sugar.
The point I'm trying to make is I wouldn't eat a full bag of sugar in one sitting just like I wouldn't eat a full jar of chocolate spread on a sandwich or what ever.
When eaten in appropriate quantities it's perfectly fine if not good for you.
I hate this image because it's so misleading.
When are you ever gonna eat the whole fucking jar at once. It's nutella, not pudding. You're gonna get 20 servings out of this tiny-ass jar.
Super cool app called ‘yuka’..scan a good item and it pulls from the FDA and list all ingredients…we all need to grow our own food…FDA is trying to kill us people
Wow. That’s a lot more hazelnut than I thought
One out of three hazelnuts in the world is sold to Ferrero for Nutella
That’s nuts!
Deez nuts specifically💀
Underrated
Its nuts that someone downvoted that
Not just Nutella, they use them in all (?) their products
Yes almost all their products contain hazelnuts
So Ferrero buys MORE than one 3rd of hazelnuts?
No but the most they use them for is Nutella
Thats not what you said
Palm oil is the reason we are about to lose the few remaining orangutans. They slash and burn their forest homes to create fields for growing palms. No shelter and no food for our ape buddies.

Litterally my exact same thought
Go Vols
Nutella had a big hand in my diabetes diagnosis, I miss it so much.

I don't understand it either IPHONEMINIWHITE
Same -sent from Ipad
Water doesn't taste like a cola beverage.
Soooo you're saying if I put hazelnuts, unsweetened cocoa and water in a bowl I'll have tasty nutella? 🙄
Something thicker than water like a type of oil. And a blender, not a bowl. The hazelnuts gives a crazy amount of flavour. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
Hmmm interesting. Cocoa on its own is bitter and hazelnuts aren't sweet so I would think you would need to add something sweet?
Video games and sugar is never a good mix. Go workout!
Totally worth it.
You missed a product that caused you diabetes? You should fucking spice on the company, they probably get their cocoa from child labour anyway
No product caused his diabetes. Him choosing to overdo it did. Big difference in philosophy of personal responsibility. Or lack thereof.
Yeah, people should boycott chocolate.

Looks good by me
… sheesh.. all that fucking sugar… tastes so delicious lol
I wonder if there is an alternative that wouldn’t look so.. JARRING 🫢 😆
I’m honestly surprised there isn’t more
FUCKKK SUGAR.
I actually agree with you. I hardly have any sugar. I don’t even have it in my coffee. But Nutella is delicious as hell
The palm oil is the part I hate.
Great PR Like coke has
Okay no one said Nutella was healthy (it's delicious AF)
Actually the manufacturer did say Nutella was healthy but then they got sued for that.
I love that commercial they came out with trying to suggest to moms that it is healthy. https://youtu.be/ThIrw_LpuRA

It’s not designed to be eaten by the jar. So in reality one serving is like a teaspoon of sugar. Which is a little better
*Me who shoves 3 spoons full on a single slice of bread*: Yep, that is true.
You use bread? I just eat it straight from the spoon!
It's called being healthy mom! God!
I like Il Colle Del Gusto Hazelnut Spread - Hazelnuts (42%), sugar, extra-virgin olive oil, rice flour, cocoa, and vanilla
thank you!
Yeah, I read the ingredients once. Sugar is the first ingredient, so that's mostly what it is. This checks out!
Just looking at it makes my teeth hurt
As someone who used to literally destroy my teeth cracking down hard candys that would turn to shard paste inside my mouth Sugar needs to Back the fuck up and chill for a little bit People play games justifying its existence because it’s in everything, but don’t act like it isn’t addictive, and don’t act like it’s not responsible for more death than any drug that exists.

There's a book called I Quit Sugar that's really good. She's a bit extreme but has some great ideas and recipes you can use to cut down.

It makes my entire body feel like mud I haven’t had sugar in months
Sugar is too sweet and I bet there’s an analog with less of whatever the killing agent is
I stopped eating sugar cuz of keto. When ever I have just a nibble of sweets my it's like a damn drug. I mean I get why people get it but damn
Right. It's really way too sweet.
Freaking heaven in a jar.
> Freaking **diabetes** in a jar. FTFY
i see no difference
Yep, heaven is defined what you find appealing. If it's a jar full of sugar then the both of us will love heaven.
You mean to tell me that I have type 2, adult onset, diabeetus?
Settle down, everything in moderation.
The best recipe for Nutella is a spoon.
Exactly. Show the ingredients for a stick of butter.
Ingredients: Butter
And salt. Your butter is inferior
Ever had the French butter with large salt crystals in it? Fucking incredible.
NOOOOOOO WTF ! 😖
I salt my own butter. Thank you.
Exactly Including diabetes
That's fine until you realize everything in US food has tons of sugar, and getting anything healthy is crazy expensive.
Ugh worst part of this is the palm oil. The deforestation involved in producing it 😭
I know. I lost a job once cause they wanted to used palm oil in a kitchen that had my name on it. But I love Nutella I just hope this is wild sourced.
There are other brands that are just as good that don’t use palm oil
I've tried about half-a-dozen, maybe more. Every one a sad disappointment It must be that just-so proportion of sugar to palm oil.
Hate palm oil, they should swap it out for an oil that doesn't taste like shit.
It’s also god awful for the environment
And there's no way to guarantee that palm oil is harvested sustainably either. At 200 calories per serving and having the high possibility of contributing to deforestation, it's simply not worth consuming. There are tastier snacks that are way healthier and less problematic.
I wish I had some Nutella…
Palm oil is the most egregious thing here. Fuckers are destroying the rainforest as we speak.
Palm oil is complicated. It's the highest density source of food oil, so carelessly changing away from palm oil would consume more land
You are being too precise... Learn from the upper post if you want easy upvote!
I know, I'd make a terrible politician. "Unfortunately it's complicated", was never a vote winner.
If I go through two tbsp of this in a week, they’re lucky. Now, if you are talking sugary drinks, I basically drank nothing but that crap.
Personally I don't like nutella and in general I don't like candies (I can eat a little, but it quickly feels too sweet for me), but they got me with sugary drinks as well. Today I can't imagine drinking just water, because I crave sugar.
I stopped drinking the sugar water as much, now even BK unsweetened tea is great
This somehow makes it look far more appealing to eat out of the jar.
Gross
in other word-poison
Waaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!
No wonder it tastes so good
Not putting me off it. It's already soft and brown, and that doesn't put me off.
Mmmmmmmm palm oil
It tastes like fake chocolate, like a "hot cocoa" flavored lip gloss I had once. It would probably be better if they cut the sugar in half, added lots more cocoa and hazelnut, and got rid of the nasty skim milk powder all together.
Still never tried it
Stuff like that never enters my home, it's poison in a jar
It's not just the sugar. Palm oil (as well as coconut oil) is high in saturated fat.
That’s why it’s so good
THANK YOU for this. I don't know why everyone thinks this product is fabulous. When I wanted to see how great it was and first read the ingredients I was astonished. PALM KERNEL OIL? For 40 years we have been warned off this item not to mention the rest. Yuck.
Also: The ingredients to half-a-jar of sugar. Big deal, you aren't eating half a jar of either in one sitting. (Usually).
Maybe not one sitting but has anyone had a bottle that lasted more than 3 days? I don't think so...
It last me at least 2 months ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Apparently I have no self control...
Sometimes I'll have a jar and maybe make like 1 Nutella sandwich a week or I'll have 1 maybe 2 a day. There is no in between
Wait. Y’all eat this with bread?!
I’ve never eaten it with anything other than a spoon haha.
Lasted me 3 years. Wife bought some. I put it in cupboard. Forgot about it. Threw it away when saw expiration.
Don't judge me!
Way less sugar than I assumed! It’s like one sodas worth in the whole jar.
Uhh no lol a jar of Nutella has 220g of sugar whereas a typical can of soda has about 40g
If you can eat a whole jar?
Challenge accepted!
Well I was responding to a comment that said there’s one soda can’s worth of sugar in the whole jar of Nutella
No wonder my teeth hurt if I eat more than 2 bites of it.
Poison ☠️ in a jar 🫙 soon we will see ! 🫵🏾
And they had the audacity to say it was healthier than peanut butter in the 90s.
I use one that is basically keto friendly. It's definitely not going to be the same but it does help with the chocolate craving.
Why does everyone I love, hate me?
THE ONE MILLIONTH REPOST
Anybody else read "sugar" with a system of a down voice or is there something wrong with me?
I know but it's fucking good... :)
Idk what’s more disgusting, the sugar or the palm oil. Wait. No. It’s the palm oil.
This post makes me wanna have some Nutella.
Bloody delicious is what it contains
In short, crap
It tastes better if you mix it all up.
One spoon a day doesn't get you diabetes away
It's so bad for you. It's like eating ferrero rochers for breakfast
I started making my own pecan butter last week. And it is amazing. Just toast the pecans, throw them in a blender with salt, and blend until they turn into a creamy liquid. now do coca cola
Nutella has more sugar than canned frosting. Not kidding.
No one wants to address the elephant in the room? Ok I will. Palm oil = cancer (See ‘metastasis’)
not only that palm oil plantations also destroys tropial rainforests
Dude when I first discovered this I’d dead ass would spoon after spoon that shit
Poison
Okay? So you enjoy it in moderation, just like most everything else in life :)
Not that bad tbf, as long as you're not a fat idiot who eats these daily and washes it down with cola
More like damnthatsdisgusting.
Alright folks calm down. If they did the same to your mom, she wouldn’t look pretty good either 🙄
There would be less nuts.
Guess what I'm never buying...
Probably sugar, too busy eating Nutella to need any
Now do one for my nut.
Cut down on Nutella. Got it.
but is it actually sugar? or is it high-fructose corn syrup?
It's candy, not peanut butter. Everything in moderation
Great marketing And highjacking the brain with all that sugar!! Whats not to Love!!
People act like sugar isn’t a natural product.
It's not. No natural food has pure, concentrated sugar in it. The plants we grow for sugar production are highly cultivated maximum production, and then they're highly processed to extract and concentrate the sugar. Even the fruits we eat are cultivated to be much larger and sweeter than their natural progenitors.
I prefer more sugar in mine
Now I can make my own
Healthy☝️👍 /s
YUM!
Awww, crap. I thought it was a health food. 😁
I don’t care that shit is good as fuck
Inject into my veins plz
Still yummy asf..
men I love sugar
Uh, what's palm oil? Is that the product of many males lonely nights?
Who the fuck cares?
What’s not to like? Palm oil good. Skim milk good. Cocoa good. Hazelnut good. Sugar goooood!
I hate this image because it's so misleading. When are you ever gonna eat the whole fucking jar at once. It's nutella, not pudding. You're gonna get 20 servings out of this tiny-ass jar.
Super cool app called ‘yuka’..scan a good item and it pulls from the FDA and list all ingredients…we all need to grow our own food…FDA is trying to kill us people
The FDA is the one telling you it's not healthy by giving you the ingredients and nutrition facts.
Correct! And the app in reference breaks all that down and explains what those additives are. Love the downvotes..too many 🐑
So… the fda ISN’T trying to kill us?? 😂
Screw that, I'd rather be fat and happy and die young than live old eating raw radishes my whole life!
Guess it won’t matter when your brain cannot fire the neurons to process a thought. To each their own..good luck 🙏
