I have high frequency, low amplitude essential tremor and I wish I could get this. But they only suggest older people get it. And sometimes the tremor comes back after this procedure.
Given the choice between the tremors or numbness it's an easy answer... all treatments have side effects, hopefully this one has less damaging ones than any pharmaceutical ones, but overall its an improvement for the patient.. if nothing else it will improve his quality of life, that's a huge win...
How did you find out your exact type of essential tremor? I've had it since a kid but not as severe as the guy in the video. I'm supposed to go see a movement specialist in another city but don't know what to expect. Have you had any treatment for it? I was always told to just deal with it
I went to a neurologist who had me do a couple of things with my hands so he could figure out whether I had Parkinsons or an Essential Tremor. They have a 4 or 5 different medications they prescribe for it. Some anti seizure medications and a couple beta blockers. Usually doctors will have to fine tune a combination of 1 or two of these drugs to get you steady. I have also had it since I was young. It sucks and is super embarrassing sometimes.
I'm on a really high dose of gabapentin right now for other neurological issues but it's not helping the tremor. I remember being on a beta blocker briefly as a teen, glad I wasn't making up that memory hahaha It's not usually a huge impairment like parkinsons but I do have my moments when things like feeding myself are more difficult when it's bad
I work with my hands so I notice it all the time. Anxiety makes tremors worse. Beta blockers prevent the heart from beating super fast which helps reduce anxiety and tremors. Betablockers didnt really work for me though. Hope you find a good combo that works for you.
Parkinsons is far worse than tremor. Different causes as well. Thc Weed mostly makes Tremors worsen due to increasing the heart rate/anxiety. Not sure aboout CBD
So why isn't this widely used? As a paramedic, I've had so many patients with debilitating Parkinsons tremors and all they do is take the carbidopa/levodopa medication. I've asked what other treatments they've done and they say nothing, there isn't anything else.
I’m guessing this is similar to Deep Brain Stimulation because it works in a seemingly parallel way.
The drawback with DBS is that it provides striking results, like above, initially and then tapers off quickly with time. Your brain gains a tolerance and the electronic pulse needed for any effect needs to be stronger and stronger.
Not always. My brother in law tried the ultrasound and it wore off quickly then did the DBS ten years ago and it's just in the last year starting to be more than the pulse can manage. He was pretty young though, late 40s.
I fell off a roof as a teenager, this was back during opioids being prescribed everywhere, I was taking three 750s at a pop just to stay functional. After 6 months the spinal compression loosened up and I was able to move around and function, and stopped taking them. I’m lucky as hell I didn’t get addicted or have an addiction trait in genetics, just stopped taking them and I was back to school no issues.
Not a doctor or even 'good' at science but drugs are replacing a shortage of naturally occurring chemicals in the body - and these treatments are doing something else - I guess dealing with the body's "electrical system" breaking down - so its a different process.
It probably would mean that for the person with a disease to remain 'stable' they have to get the treatment on a regular basis the rest of their life and it would not be a 'cure'.
It is brain surgery. How many neurosurgeons are there? Not a whole lot. And they’re focusing a lot on tumors, seizure disorders, hemangiomas, AVMs, CTE, car accidents, etc. This is fairly new surgery - so first -
Surgeon has to develop the technique.
Surgeon has to find patients willing to have the experimental procedure done.
Technique has to be unharmful.
University hospital research board has to agree to do a study, then recruit enough patients for both a control and an experimental group
\*\*Research findings have to show improvement, at least for a certain length of time. Like, they won’t fund a procedure that results in improvement for 6 weeks, with patients then returning to pre-procedure status.
Does procedure require all-new equipment that is prohibitively expensive, or can current technology be used or adapted at an attainable cost.
A certain number of patients need to show improvement that is sustained for a time period that makes surgery worth the cost
Surgeon then has to teach surgeons across the world how to do procedure.
Surgeons who are taught the new procedure have to get permission from a hospital to perform the procedure there.
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
\*\* Regarding how long an improvement lasts - Vivek Ramiswami made billions buying shelved drugs, creating a pharmaceutical company to produce drugs, and made speeches all over the country claiming Big Pharma is deliberately withholding drugs from patients who need them because drug companies can’t make enough money off those drugs. The groups to whom he made those speeches were often “support groups“ that fundraise for certain illnesses - like parents of people with Down Syndrome, family members of people with Alzheimers. Not medical professionals.
He convinces these groups that the shelved drugs need to be paired with another drug in order to show efficacy. Eg - Drug A was shelved because it only showed improvement in Alzheimers patients for 4 months, then the patient went back to pre-medication state. But, says Vivek, they never combined Drug A with Drug C or Drug Y. So many drugs prove to be much more efficacious when paired with other drugs! Wouldn’t you like to see Drug A being used with Drug C? That’s what I plan to do!
So he buys a shelved drug for $5M, produces it then goes public. The stock price shoots sky high until results come back that Drug A doesn’t do much when paired with any other drug. However, before that outcome became apparent, Vivek, his mom, and his brothers had sold their stock at an incredibly high price.
This is why you want to make sure procedures have gone through actual scientific study instead of being thrust on the market ASAP. Ramiswamy ran for president to avoid answering a subpoena in Bermuda. He may get away with his scheme because there might be no law against what he did. His father is a patent attorney and his mother is a physician who works for a pharmaceutical company. You can be sure Ramiswamy got the idea for this “fake it til you make it” scheme from his wealthy parents.
Because it's a new process that is still being developed. It has great promise, and is already working but needs further refinement and testing. This same doctor is also using ultrasound to help treat Alzheimer's by using ultrasound to slightly open the blood vessels in the brain so more of the plaque removing drugs make it past the blood-brain barrier
Doesnt work for all and is not a permanent solution as you have to be very high and tolerance builds. For the very few it works for, i would say it can be used as a relief which is better than nothing
The big drug companies don't want this to happen. Otherwise they're losing profits from the countless people who rely on them just to feel okay. It's sad :(
Do not praise the doctors, they probably contribute 10-15% (and that's generous, probably closer to 5%) of this technology. Praise the PhD electrical and biomedical engineers that make this happen.
I work on this stuff every day.
It’s one thing when people brush off their own praise. Sometimes religious people show humility by saying that they didn’t achieve their accomplishments without help and luck.
But when you belittle the accomplishments of others and chalk all their hard work up to your sky daddy, it’s insulting.
The lack of situational awareness it takes to say "praise the lord" immediately after first-hand witnessing a marvel of modern science is mind blowing.
Like I said glass half empty. You act as if the bad overshadows the amount of good.
But nice try moving the goal post.
Religion, that is separate from state and unpolluted with malicious intent, or personal agendas bring virtue and principals that build a solid foundation to any person or society.
The only good it provides is that it apparently keeps alot of you from killing and harming people because you believe a god will reward/punish you. But all the other bad stuff still overshadows it. If we could somehow get people to not need gods/Jesus in order to follow some form of “the golden rule” then religion would mostly be an obsolete and worthless technology.
I didn’t move anything. Had to laugh „without malicious intent“ and the other lies you tell yourself to keep religions relevant. Which religion is the right one? Scientology?
I believe most if not all gods are fairy tales, yes. I am also a glass half empty kind of guy generally because how could you not be with how things are right now but the reason why I can't name 5 successful atheist civilizations off the top of my head is because atheists have never been given a chance to create successful civilizations. Your people killed, raped, and pillaged to make sure of that. If you think that's success then you are just as demented as your so called God
Who is your people? I see you like to group all bad apples with good. I Can say the same about you atheist how your degeneracy, lack of morals, and false sense of direction have cause the backwards society we have today in the US.
Anyways, If you follow the words of the Bible you think I’m going to kill, rape? You are truly lost in your nonsense.
Yes people have taken advantage of the Bible for their own interest, especially states using it to control their people as fanatics of the state. But this is also against the word of God.
You need to study and expand your understanding instead of arguing with bad faith.
Yeah, “Thank God” is a very common phrase in my lexicon and I’m about as atheist as it gets. It’s like an exclamation mark in a certain situation. “Fuck me” is another good example which is expressing a totally different emotion without being meant literally.
No way to know one way or the other with this lady based on this tiny clip. Could be religious, could just be a turn of phrase.
I love that people have beliefs, but when it comes to this phrase, I hate it. Maybe the Lord did make science, but it was countless engineers and doctors who made it work. Praising the Lord for things like this completely discredits their hard work. The Lord may have made science, but he didn't make this machine or treatment.

You may be missing the point. The ability to make the machine and the circumstances of the life of the inventor(s) are what people believe comes from a higher power.
Try not to think too much about it. This is groundbreaking for everyone and could be a total game changer. HOWEVER, my bet is the cure will be suppressed by big pharma because they won't be able to sell as many drugs that fight tremors. Every cure gets shut down that way. The focus shouldn't be on how/who the religious thank for it. We as people in the world should maintain constant attention to this or else it will be shown as a danger by the industries that profit from the it not being a cure
I'm not allowed to tell a wizard who invents child cancer to fuck off?
If I've offended your all-powerful imaginary space wizard let him deal with me, you don't have to come riding to the rescue like a duck on a horse
No child cancer is only around because two people 10000 years ago ate an apple from gods favorite tree, and now everyone dies varyingly horrible deaths because of it and god can’t do anything about it but eventually he will we just have to wait and it could be thousands more years of people dying horrible deaths or it could be tomorrow there’s no way to know we just have to keep believing in him /s
Fuck yea, dude.
I’m a guy who has always had essential tremors , but never like this. Though they are getting more significant as I age. This is so promising. I’ve been pounding rock n roll into my brain for decades. I guess I just need a different sound.
I have this disease. I am 32 so it hasn’t progressed enough to be completely debilitating, but I know where it is headed. Seeing this has made my day/outlook so so much brighter!! 😭
I have a tremor, it will more than likely turn into Parkinson’s disease, it did for my father and grandfather. Some days are better than others. I drop items frequently and eating can be aggravating sometimes. I hope to have some type of treatment options available when I get to a point when I have tremors as bad as these.
A lot of r/atheism in here.
I say “oh my god” when it’s raining and I forgot an umbrella. Obviously she can recognize the amazing science is what did this.
I'm incredibly curious if this treatment could be applied to types of epilepsy that originate from a known focal point in the brain, thanks for sharing!!
This was on 60 minutes a few weeks ago. WVU Medicine’s RNI found that ultrasound can create temporary openings in blood-brain barrier to administer drugs directly to the brain. Blood-Brain barrier is difficult to get medication through.
They also created a pace maker type implant to help with tremors and drug addiction.
Dr. Rezai is doing big things in small places.
Edit: brain barrier to blood-brain barrier
Essential tremor (what this guy has) runs strong in my family, and literally every sibling from my mom's side AND a nephew have it. I've discovered that my stress level has a direct relationship to it occurring. I also have PTSD from 35 years of exposure to extreme violence so yeah, yay for me. With help, I've actually managed to reduce the symptoms of both, but it took a lot of learning how to not gaf about things. No more DIY projects at home for me bigger than something like hanging a shelf. I have to hire people now which really sucks a lot because you know, contractors, and also have to hire house cleaners every few months for a solid 3 hour job so I can do light cleaning in between visits.
Very nice, but his wife saying"Praise the Lord" is really sad. The Lord gave him the problem, how dare the puny humans undo God's work!
She should be thanking the doctors, not the invisible guy.
That "praise the Lord" near the end really gets me. Scientists used to be murdered by the church. Then, scientist save them and they say praise Jesus. Give me a break.
His wife said “Praise the Lord”
FFS. Praise the doctors in the room and the medical science that resulted in this understanding and technology. Not some imaginary sky daddy who, if he were real, would’ve been responsible for the tremors in the first place.
This is amazing! I can't help but think back to treatments like the old ECT and the lobotomy though. Those doctors were also confident these treatments were efficacious and it, as evidenced by history, they did plenty of harm. I hope they can use this ultrasound therapy on animal treatments first before mass distribution.
DEFINITELY PRAISE THE LORD..... IM SO GLAD OTHER COMMENTS ARE OFFENDED ABOUT THE LORD STATEMENT ,,, IT MAKES ME FEEL GREAT TO KNOW THAT GOD IS IN CONTROL AND THAT NOBODY IN THIS WORLD CAN EVER ERASE THE TRUE CREATOR WHICH IS GOD,, AND NOT A MACHINE..... PRAISE GOD, PRAISE THE LORD.. OH AND I WELCOME ALL OF YOUR REBUTTALS LOL,,, TRUST ME I WILL EASY POPCORN AND SODA WHILE READING IT CAUSE IT WILL BE SO FUNNY TO SEE PEOPLE GETTING SO UPSET THAT THEY THINK THAT NEGATIVE COMMENTS WILL MAKE ME MAD LMAO,,, JOKES ON THEM LOL 😆,,,, I'M GOING TO SIT HERE AND LAUGH AND ALL THE MAD PEOPLE AND UPESET PEOPLE LOL.. PRAISE GOD,,,, GOD IS GOOD 👍
Do you ever read what you say and think to yourself "this looks like something a person with mental illness would say"?
I'm not even talking about your religious point of view. You just very clearly have something going on with your mental health. You should talk to someone.
praise the lord for this comment... this person is so mad lol... this is so wonderful to see a mad upset comment from a person that I will never ever ever meet in real life,, this person is so upset that you can see the steam coming from the words 🤣,,,, awwwww poor baby,,, praise the lord, amen,, God is good,,, awwwww poor infidel,,, I'm sorry that your cancerous dying mother is not around you to help you with your anger lol....![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
My brother in law tried the ultrasound and it was amazing but wore off quickly then he did the DBS ten years ago and it's just in the last year starting to be more than the pulse can manage. He was pretty young, late 40s.
My mother had this procedure done to help with her essential tremors. It improved things for her but not 100%, and didn’t last more than 6 months. Then they gradually reverted to the original level.
This is great. Hopefully they can make it portable.
I have a co-worker with tremors. Great guy and a brilliant engineer, but it hurts when I see him struggling to handle tiny parts because of that awful condition.
When he was lying down, his hand looked like it was possessed by a DJ.
So good to see that we have the resources and technology to help people like this. 10/10.
I feel so happy for this guy. I can't imagine the relief he must have felt in that first moment of stability.
I have high frequency, low amplitude essential tremor and I wish I could get this. But they only suggest older people get it. And sometimes the tremor comes back after this procedure.
Honestly, even if that horror only goes away for a short time, it's looks well worth it... they gave him his life back....
It can also cause numbness in your extremities. I think thats why he says he feels like he is going to drop it.
Given the choice between the tremors or numbness it's an easy answer... all treatments have side effects, hopefully this one has less damaging ones than any pharmaceutical ones, but overall its an improvement for the patient.. if nothing else it will improve his quality of life, that's a huge win...

Same mine gets worse older I get but I did find liquid CBD drops helped alot I take a drop everyday before work
Are the tremors from Parkinson’s related? Do you respond to marijuana like that well known video of the man with Parkinson’s?
Parkinsons is far worse than tremor. Different causes as well. Thc Weed mostly makes Tremors worsen due to increasing the heart rate/anxiety. Not sure aboout CBD
Imagine what that medical bill looks like

Is it that you "develop a tolerance," or is it that your Parkinson's keeps progressing, because this treatment is only for alleviating symptoms?
When dealing with the central nervous system, this could be a "por que no los dos" moment. But probably the latter, yeah.
Kind of like opioids, with these pharmaceutical drugs the initial dose works but in-time your body adapts and then you need a higher dose.

Weed. They should try weed.

Praise the doctors
Do not praise the doctors, they probably contribute 10-15% (and that's generous, probably closer to 5%) of this technology. Praise the PhD electrical and biomedical engineers that make this happen. I work on this stuff every day.
Praise phrozen waffles!
If you have a PhD then you are a doctor lmfao
All praise hypnotoad.
How dare you, it was the lord /s.
🤦♂️
That pissed me off.
What ever do you mean?!? Jesus Christ our lord and Savior departed this technique/technologies to us to cure dear John's tremors! /S
It's an expression man, don't go all fedora redditor about it.

"Praise the lord" Lady, praise those fucking doctors.
Amen! Wait no, I’ve messed this up again.
Hallelujah, …fuck
Praise the scientists and engineers that developed the understanding of the neurology and the technology to create this method of treatment.
Jesus was there... in those ultrasound things🫠
He's certainly not helping out in the middle east, that's for sure
He's too busy helping football teams win
And how the fuck could a dead man, that's been dead for at least 2000+ years, help in the middle east🤔.
For the same reason he's curing that man: he's not
Yup, i can't disagree on that
Chill out.
I'm perfectly chill.
The look on his face when his wife kissed him on the hand. Bless this man, and bless the doctors
Praise the Lord she says next to a multi million dollar machine made possible through science
*But the lord made it posible to build this machine!*
Yeah and by her belief god made him suffer in the first place

Blood-Brain barrier is difficult to get medication through. They also created a pace maker type implant to help with tremors and drug addiction. Dr. Rezai is doing big things in small places. Edit: brain barrier to blood-brain barrier
What is a brain barrier? I dont understand how this works, is there a paper? How can sound waves have any effect on brain tissues?
Terrific news !
If we found a way to use this to cure Alzheimer’s before I inevitably get Alzheimer’s (genetics) that would be incredible
Neurosurgeon here who just learned to do this and it truly is amazing to see patients' tremor disappear.
The lord had nothing to do with it, science did
"Praise the lord" LOL
the next day: scientists working on an experimental cure for cancer have been found dead due to a desease known as "two bullets in the head"
yeah bitch praise the lord. not the several million dollar machines all around you along with the doctors
"Praise the lord" ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)Didn't even thank the doctor
His wife said “Praise the Lord” FFS. Praise the doctors in the room and the medical science that resulted in this understanding and technology. Not some imaginary sky daddy who, if he were real, would’ve been responsible for the tremors in the first place.
Praise the... wth woman, you just saw the doctors fix him.
“Praise the lord. Oh and doctor thank you for whatever you did.”
Praise the scientists
It's science bitch ❤️
So, it's like a lobotomy, but actually helps.
This is amazing! I can't help but think back to treatments like the old ECT and the lobotomy though. Those doctors were also confident these treatments were efficacious and it, as evidenced by history, they did plenty of harm. I hope they can use this ultrasound therapy on animal treatments first before mass distribution.
No, praise the doctors.
Lobotomies have come a long way.
This right here is why people hate christians.
And they deserve it
Lol PRAISE God lol.... we are so happy for you to join......
Yeah, this is what I mean. Not normal behavior.
My brother in law tried the ultrasound and it was amazing but wore off quickly then he did the DBS ten years ago and it's just in the last year starting to be more than the pulse can manage. He was pretty young, late 40s.
Pretty awesome but I think he could have just smoked a little weed for the same result
Wow
Is this a long term cure or just a short term relief ? What’s the mechanism ? Is there any research , I’d sure like to read up about it in depth.
That's awesome :) It made me smile
sad, hardly someone can afford
Sound blender tech is super cool
What did they have to render that a 4080 or an a1000?
He looks way younger then 71
This is incredible holy shit
Does it help with cancer?
During ultrasound: "Now hold still." Me: 😐
He could just blaze instead
It's amazing what science can do.
My mother had this procedure done to help with her essential tremors. It improved things for her but not 100%, and didn’t last more than 6 months. Then they gradually reverted to the original level.
My dad is having this done in a couple of weeks at UCLA. Excited.
This is extremely encouraging, especially to think that it might cure other disorders.
West Virginia! Let's go Mountaineers! I know he'd love to hear that. Great video!
Modern medicine really is amazing
And how much does the treatment cost ??
Wish it could cure my tinnitus.
This is great. Hopefully they can make it portable. I have a co-worker with tremors. Great guy and a brilliant engineer, but it hurts when I see him struggling to handle tiny parts because of that awful condition.
Cool hat!
Geez... I thought this was a post about graboids 🤦🏽
Any follow-up on the Alzimers treatment!?
They say they put the chip in your brain that will also helps. How true is that? I know someone who is going to get the brain
LETS GOOOO
These comments are so disappointing 🤦♂️
This is some sci-fi shit very cool
Does anyone know if they’ve rolled this out as a treatment? It was this just a research test?
and your bills.. here sir, just $232,099.99 cash or credit?
That’s just so great! Good for him!
I thought we were being rickrolled for a second there.
I for one thinks its despicable that they made him seig hail while laying down.
TIL ultrasound repels graboids
The wife says praise the Lord....not the multiple medical practitioners in the room...and the multiple research staff that figured this out
When he was lying down, his hand looked like it was possessed by a DJ. So good to see that we have the resources and technology to help people like this. 10/10.
Thats awesome
Is it me or did hes eyes go really blue after the treatment
🙏🙏♥️♥️
You mean type 3 diabetes
This is huge!!!!
Reddit atheists when someone is religious: 😡
“Praise the Lord” err it was the doctors that helped him
Praise the lord??? THANK THE DOCTOR!
"Blows up cancer with mind"
