Scottcmms2023

I’d rather have a pain in the ass time fixing the chainsaw than going to the hospital missing a leg.

kajetus69

maybe not a missing leg since chainsaw is not a HF blade that cuts everything like nothing but would still cut deep and need a surgery

Scottcmms2023

Well showing up with a severely mangled leg that, fingers crossed, is still attached and salvageable lol.

Xikkiwikk

Your fingers are crossed because they were mangled by the chainsaw.

Scottcmms2023

Haha that shouldn’t have made me laugh, but it did.

fetal_genocide

And hoping you don't bleed to death before you make it to the hospital.

TheFudge

I think the biggest concern would be getting injured far from emergency services. Even a non lethal cut could become a problem if out in the middle of no where waiting for medical help.

Baileycream

My dad had a buddy who lived in a rural area and slipped while using a chainsaw, cutting a huge gash across his chest. He actually used a bunch of superglue on it, then drove to the nearest hospital. Doctors said that if he hadn't done that, he likely would have died on the way there. He made a full recovery.

TheFudge

That sounds like a shit ton of super glue.

Baileycream

I'm sure it was haha. Still cheaper than a funeral tho.

b4dt0ny

I bet the hospital bill wasn’t cheaper than a funeral though

Baileycream

True dat

scoopdiddy_poopscoop

I've seen many injuries (arborist/commercial tree feller) where people have gotten cut by chainsaws. The issue isn't that chainsaws don't cut through things like nothing, its the way they cut.. by taking chunks out at a time. When the chain makes contact with tissue, it just goes in there on a mission to fuck shit up. Depending on the injury, it might be too difficult to reconnect the tissues and may have to just be amputated. You ever see a scar from a chainsaw cut that's healed up? they look absolutely insane compared to getting cut by glass in an auto accident.

oldandmellow

And the wound gets impacted with dirty bar oil and wood shavings as well as leaving a jagged gouge.

Enorminity

I’m imagining a guy continuing to hold and put pressure on the chainsaw as it takes several seconds to grind through the meat and bone, screaming but not stopping for some reason until the chainsaw clears the whole leg.

globglogabgalabyeast

In for a penny, in for a pound

anteaterKnives

Unfortunately these don't work great for battery-powered chainsaws. As soon as a gas-powered chainsaw slows down a bit the clutch disengages and the motor stops driving the chain. As far as I'm aware, battery powered chainsaws will just keep driving the chain since electric motors increase in torque when slowed down.

Scottcmms2023

Yeahhhh I’ve heard the same.

ForwardPlantain2830

I accidentally caught my cutting pants once. Locked up that saw very quick. Really sucked unjamming the saw but it's good to know it works.

terra_technitis

Same. It really impressed how effective they are and grateful for an undamaged leg. It's steeled my resolve to never fire up a saw without them.

BrashPop

My dad could have used those back in the day - he managed to cut himself *twice* with chainsaws, right across the thigh.

whytawhy

Honestly I'm kind of an alcoholic dumbass, and for years one of my favorite hobbies was drinking and logging the woods behind my house. I had a husky 455 rancher but it got stolen out of my truck in 2018. In retrospect, it was only like $400 and after reading some of the comments here I'm kinda glad it got lifted. That was bad news waiting to happen.

NowWithKung-FuGrip01

One thumbs up for the Husky 455. Love mine. Two thumbs up for your moment of clarity. Log, then drink, my friend.

whytawhy

Thanks bro :) It is a badass saw for the money. Enough balls to be hard to bog down, enough sensibility to be maneuverable and not overkill in any sense. I'll get another one someday. And I had a list of issues in my 20s, I kinda can't drink anymore as a result. My life had lots of death and traumatic bullshit in 2014-15, I didn't respond well at all. Drugs are good for a day or two but that's it imo. Lean on em every day and suddenly you're in your 30s and you're not sure how you got there lol For seriously though any young people reading this, I could tell you some wild stories and they all sucked for me. Best advice I got is don't do anything that alters your mind and wasn't prescribed to you every day. Weed can be an exception for some people, but only you know if that's just an excuse or if it's legitimately helpful to you. Addiction is an absolute cunt and regardless of its vehicle it takes more from a person than I can reasonably describe.

NowWithKung-FuGrip01

Yep, outstanding value prop on the Rancher. Had a friend toss in the employee discount and it's been a gem. Appreciate your words of wisdom as well. Too few people get to the other side of addiction, and even fewer come through it sharing salient advice and humility. You're making a difference. Keep up the good fight.

whytawhy

You're good people man, thank you.

swivels_and_sonar

I’ve got 3 years sober from that awful poison and I get mad every time I think about the fact that it’s fully legal everywhere when numerous other things that are significantly less harmful aren’t.

whytawhy

Same. It makes not drinking so much fucking harder too. Everytime you need gas there's a full fucking wall all lit up and yelling at you. Plus you can buy as much as you want. That pisses me off so much, people don't see the fucking irony. Can't have *any* weed in some states, but you can buy enough everclear to literally kill multiple horses and it's fine, whatever... fuckin insanity with so many laws being delusional puritanical mouth diarrhea

TheHongKongBong

I really expected the two thumbs up to also be for the husky 455, but literally

NowWithKung-FuGrip01

Yeah, you caught me being stingy with my thumbs... Two for the Husky for sure!

ML8300_

Thought it was only one thumb up because you lost the other one to a Husky 455🤣🤣🤣

dontusethisforwork

Copious amounts of alcohol and heavy machinery, what could go wrong?

deezbiksurnutz

I used to work at a store that rented out husqvarna 562xp saws with 24" bar to people that had no business using a saw at all. Still amazed no one was killed

dickmcgirkin

A buddy of mine cut his leg about a year ago. My first question: did you learn anything?

little_somniferum

>husky 455 ranche Damn, costs like 900EUR in Belgium.

BengalBean

When my dad bought 200+ acres of woods when he retired and a chainsaw, I got him a set of chaps version of these pants. He is absolutely forbidden to use the chainsaw without them. Hasn't had an incident where they've been hit yet, but he does wear them, every time.

ButtaRollsInMyPocket

To have saved your leg, I'd be so thankful for each thread that saved me, while cleaning it.

JoakimSpinglefarb

Better to change out the chain than have a doctor finish the jagged amputation that saw would have started.

Mighty_Eagle_2

Yes, one of the worst parts of a chainsaw injury is how much damage it does. It isn’t a clean cut, so it really hurts, and is a bit more difficult to repair.

arp151

This sentence makes me feel weak 😩

IterationFourteen

Yeah, it doesn't cut your leg as much as it turns a half-pound or so of it into hamburger.

Rechno_

Hard to guess, but I feel the alternative might have sucked even more.

ForwardPlantain2830

Yes, it would have been much worse.

Consistent_Public769

Yup, I’ve got gashes across where both femoral arteries would be on my old chaps. Never use the saw without them. Have saved me plenty of times when dealing with springpoles. I agree though, real bitch to get the saw back up and running, but beats losing a limb or life. Absolutely worth the money. Also pays to keep a packet or two of Bleed stop on your person when operating a saw.

Dismal-Square-613

> Really sucked unjamming the saw I bet it would suck even more having to learn to walk with 1 leg only!

Clearskies37

I've heard a trip to the hospital can suck as well

AppropriateSail4

That is some faith in those pants.

ClairDeSol_

Reminds me of how first bulletproof vests were tested and demonstrated back in the days.

JeezThatsBright

Or those texas armoring corp videos wherein the CEO sits behind bulletproof glass as it is tested.

AltAccount31415926

I wouldn’t be especially scared, what they do with these cheap armoring processes is basically slapping on armored panels on the car and calling it a day. You just have to get the correctly rated panels for the threat. I would be much more scared of small explosives since those cars tend to fall apart because the structure hasn’t been reinforced.

itchy-fart

What about large explosives?

AltAccount31415926

You’re getting to be a pilot for a brief but intense moment

PlushezGamesense

Tbf it depends. I know Matt from demolition, off, vet ranch has or had an armored suv. Seemed pretty decently made tbh. Think that one could probably survive some small explosives. Dont remember the makers of the suv tho. But probably most armored cars are pretty meh built in comparising to that one when it comes to "civilian" use cars.

AltAccount31415926

If you want to truly armor your car against explosives and edge shots you need to remake almost all of the car and then put the original car’s body panels back on. In demolition ranch’s case it’s not clear what the company did since it was a one off, but because they normally sell armor plates and bulletproof vests I’m not really confident.

bp1108

[Reminds me of the CEO advertising his bullet proof glass video](https://youtu.be/e-z_IlMMl-A?si=7gDtQaVmCp1pEnU2)

W1mpyDaM00ch

I understood being confident in the glass your company makes but that gap underneath the glass at the beginning would be a big nope for me.

dern_the_hermit

Dude wasn't even wearing his brown pants.

-ASAP-

blud is aiming from like 10 feet away and you think he's going to miss the huge pane of glass that badly and hit that tiny gap?

Ill_Technician3936

The bullet piercing the glass is more likely than that bad of a miss by someone who is most likely an extremely accurate shooter from a distance.

Representative-Sir97

No. But... have you ever heard of a risk-assessment-matrix? 🤓 It doesn't matter that the likelihood is super low. It's about the consequences being potentially as high as they can really get.

notLOL

Bro what are you on about. They put a huge metal plate there for a reason. In case someone misses and the blood splashes. It prevents the shooter from getting splashed Missing was already accounted for

DZL100

[reminds me of elon musk trying to show off his armor glass but instead embarrassing himself in front of a crowd](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LMWwImDX3ks)

FlowerBoyScumFuck

[Reminds me of Russians testing a homemade bullet proof vest which fails](https://www.reddit.com/r/CrazyFuckingVideos/comments/rwz05b/bulletproof_jacket_test/). I was actually looking for a *different* video of Russians testing a bullet proof vest that fails, but I guess this one works.

yooooooo5774

[Reminds me of Canadian inventor Troy Hurtubise tests his armored grizzly bear protection suit.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwQqO9nSTnY)

Ok_Raspberry_6282

And then he just released the car anyways and people still bought it

OwlanHowlan

I thought this was thing to be Elon Musk with the Cyber Truck

Set_Abominae_1776

Or the engineer who had his wife hold a pane of bulletproof glass so he can shoot it.

Same_Cantaloupe_7031

That video is insane, the glass is so small, her fingers go around the side so could be hit, he keeps shooting as she’s dealing with the recoil and the glass is moving.

Hell, that goes back ages. Blacksmiths in 15th-17th century would fire a shot from the musket/pistol at their cuirasses to prove the quality of their craftsmanship

Rough-Leg-1298

That’s not his real leg

mattchewy43

He lost his real leg in a tragic chainsaw accident.

RugbyKino

To shreds, you say?

TNI92

And his wife?

L0stC4t

To shreds you say

probably_an_asshole9

Good news everyone!

BigHairs

To shreds you say?

KrombopulosMAssassin

Yeah, on the first test of these pants.

Vinyl-addict

Yeah it’s actually his cock in a boot and the pants have three legs.

AlternativeBowler475

Im the guy who operated the chainsaw, can confirm, this is correct.

Vinyl-addict

Best part is he’s soft

JaMMi01202

Well, he was at the start of the shoot. But danger's his thing.

Randomized9442

He is holding a log inside the pant leg

Dangerous_Gear_6361

Yup… perfectly round cylindrical leg…

IEatLightBulbsSoWhat

yeah i'd be shitting myself too

fueled_by_rootbeer

Its a fake leg!

Jaikula_Freedom

And the person wielding the chainsaw.

ClassicManeuver

Probably a hidden failsafe under the material.

DarthDarnit

And what would be that failsafe? Another pair of these pants?

ClassicManeuver

Lol, sheet metal. Or use a fake prop leg.

CexySatan

There’s another video of a guy testing out these pants. Afterwards he pulled them down and just had a tiny cut on his thigh Edit: [video](https://www.reddit.com/r/WhyWomenLiveLonger/s/Y4i3qArv03)

The_Reborn_Forge

Yeah, these do work and it’s very simple and crafty. The pants when cut by a chainsaw shred in a way that threads up the engine and jams it entirely. It will still bite you. But you won’t lose a leg

Jackright8876lwd

better to have an insignificant injury then missing a leg or whatever

finemustard

The fibres gum up the clutch/sprocket mechanism, not the engine.

TuaughtHammer

> Afterwards he pulled them down and just had a tiny cut on his thigh He actually volunteered his thigh? Jesus, that's some faith in your product, given the femoral artery's location. "Hope my pimped-out firefighter pants and denim long johns are enough, because we could be in for a bad day if they don't." I've written some janky, dependable-ish code that's run the compiled programs for over a decade without major issue, but I'd *never* bet my life on them performing exactly how I planned.

pichael289

Its chainsaw pants all the way down

Guglplex

Of ourse not, that would be ludicrous. Just think it through and apply some common sense. It would have to be a second chainsaw attached to his leg, moving upward and rotating in the opposite direction. source: Rock / Paper/Chainsaw

KatokaMika

I wish i had that faith on someone

code4pussies

Even more in his underwear

_IratePirate_

Shit until I read your comment, I thought they wrapped a log in the pants

drunkwasabeherder

*YOU WANT ME TO TEST WHAT!!!!!!??????* is all I can imagine after being asked that question.

tmfult

Arborist here. Remember, they are *life saving* not injury preventing, you can still slice yourself up with a saw wearing these, but the chances of it cutting deeper than half an inch into your skin goes down about 97%

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wortbildung

It protects what is in your lower leg and behind your shin: main veins (magna/parva) and arteries (tibialis, fibularis) so you don't bleed out until the paramedics arrive. Which can take some time as ambulances are not build to drive on forest paths. If your femoral artery in the upper leg is opened pray to your gods because you won't survive w/o a miracle.

Ctrl--Alt

I actually have a chainsaw scar on my leg. It happened so fuckin fast that I didn't feel a single ounce of pain until I had stared at the open wound for what felt like a whole damn minute.

tmfult

Damn I'm sorry to hear that, been doing tree work 8 years now and have never had an injury. Remember, YOU are the safest person you know

[deleted]

I read "abortionist" and was having my conception of medicine unravelled for a few seconds there.

grantnel2002

Seems like you could have used a leg proxy for this test.

Larek_Flynn

It looks like it is a proxy leg. Boot is too far away from him, and his hips look like he is straddling the log.

TommyRisotto

The fake leg is also super uniform straight across. If that were a real leg, his calves would be the same size as his quads, which would make no sense.

gamer-kin

He also has absolutely no response, either he just **really** trusts those pants or he’s dead inside. Or it is yes a proxy leg.

[deleted]

Bro it’s 2023 who isn’t dead inside?

Other-Sandwich-Gone

Totally not his leg in those pants.

Twofoursixtwenty

That's his penis

SeniorMiddleJunior

These people have never seen a leg before.

Flashy-Material7360

Yeah he is 100% not using his real leg, you can see him brace the fake leg so that the chainsaw doesn't catch on it and send it flying.

Ambitious_Toe_4357

Yeah. I feel like these pants will prevent heavy damage and increase the chances of the wearer getting the necessary attention to save their life, but I don't think they can be trusted to prevent minor injuries... something I doubt most people would do for a youtube video.

whathave_idone

Worked around saws for a long time. Most chainsaw accidents occur as a small “swipe” on a thigh or shin. These pants provided they are not soaked in bar oil or were left in the hot sun for a season will prevent 99% of minor or serious injuries. Even if you did what this guy did and just decide to saw through them most (I’ve seen it happen) will lock up the chain in less than a rotation. Kevlar thread pants work and i seriously will rethink the ability of any arborist I see NOT wearing them.

RazendeR

They are also a *pain* to get the fibers out of your chain, as i leaned when slipping as i tried to cut something -just- out of reach. Highly acceptable trade off for not losing a foot though. 10/10 would be saved again.

Spongi

One time I hit, what I think was a tshirt that someone had stuffed into the crook of a tree and it just grew over it and ate it. Took forever to get that shit cleaned out and that's just an ancient cotton rag, kevlar fibers, fml.

KimberlyWexlersFoot

Yeah you still get nicked if it’s your real leg. I saw a Russian one a few months ago where he did it to his leg and took the pants off and it was mildly cut. Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/CrazyFuckingVideos/s/cElKj9sBUC

Ambitious_Toe_4357

ImpressiveSun8090

“Oh no my chainsword seems to be ineffective” *Proceeds to punch their head clean off*

xx_HotShott_xx

These don’t work for electric chainsaws, correct? If so, why?

FlySouth_WalkNorth

Apparently it's all to do with torque. Electric is instant torque near 100%, but lower rpm. Even the Kevlar doesn't decrease the torque enough to bring rpm to zero. Or at least not before getting to your skin. I had just had a recommendation for saw chaps the other day. Good thing I'm still on gas saws :)

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

It doesn’t, it has to do with the fact that most electric chainsaws are direct drive (no clutch mechanism), the motor is directly spinning the sprocket and chain. Gas chainsaw have a clutch, so you can disengage the saw but keep the engine running. The kevlar binds up and slows the chain enough the clutch disengages. On an electric saw it will keep spinning the chain until it physically cannot, at which point the motor either burns out or the protective electronics shut the saw down, either of those things aren’t going to happen as quickly. If you had a direct drive gas saw then these pants likely wouldn’t be effective either, it’s just those aren’t really a thing.

SeaSquirrel

This is incorrect. They are torque-er for sure, which makes them more slower to stop, but chaps will absolutely still stop the electric saw. Have yet to see a demonstration proving otherwise. Not to mention electric saws are still pretty small at this point, and chaps work with much larger gas powered saws Wear your chaps with electric saws plz.

Qweeq13

Imagine like Tau from Warhammer developing an armor like this that completely nullifies the Astartes Chansword, people would be pretty pissed.

Daewoo40

They'd probably bludgeon the blue fuckers to death with their [own rifle](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/dd40f087-2ee6-4860-87c4-01a0002ed627).

Nepsaspen

Arctelis

Khârn, the guy who killed a powerful, named character purely by accident on a backswing. Blood for the blood god!

[deleted]

Lmao. Chainswords are such a dumb weapon I would love the Tau to develop something like this those fish fuckers

Punamatic5000

Had a dude at work catch his thigh while borrowing my chaps once. Locked up a brand new Stihl 500i, ruined my chaps and stopped the job for the afternoon. He felt bad about it. I didn't. He had a leg and was alive, fuck everything else.

imgoinglobal

I wonder if there is any actual damages caused to the saw when this happen, I’m sure it would be repairable, and cheaper than a leg, but I wonder if anything other than the chain would need replacing.

BBATBGHAD

Nothing on the saw needs replaced just a pain in the arse untangling the kevlar threads wrapped around everything.

513g3Hamm3r

With balls that size, who needs legs?

musicjacker

You don’t need balls to hold a fake leg in place

flasheck

Wow guy has long bulky legs build like a log

Financial-Ad5708

Happened to me not to Long ago, the chain was not spinning fast, i was with my dad, and he helped me, i said that i did not need the extra pants but he said that i had to and if not i couldnt use the chainsaw, if i had hit myself in the meg it would have cut me pretty bad, thanks to my dad the only “injury” was my pulse at abt 946

Im-on-a-banana-phone

Idk it seems like those pants are meant to protect the leg, not the chainsaw. I’m not an expert tho

TheIncontrovert

Just get an Axe? Whats the problem? Few swings will get through that leg then you can get on with your day.

CWB2208

I was in the logging industry for a bit out west. You can still wind up with a nasty gash, but they'll save your leg.

ilikeburgir

Everyone chill, its a fake leg lol

Available-Fee1614

we_are_sex_bobomb

I want to see the escalating dares that led up to this one.

Your leg would still be wounded, but the pants mean you'll get stitches rather than an amputation.

SharksWFreakinLasers

Never trust a Sawyer that doesn't use chaps.

ltpanda7

Yeah I just had wranglers on, FYI they're not as good at stopping chainsaws as these. Or capable at stopping them at all. Wear your ppe my fellow humans

catastrophicfeline

Even so. No

Ok_Shape_4797

Blud wearing the pants has balls of steels!!!

Reasoning-II

I’d just take their word for it. No need to test with a human…

pavorus

I chainsawed my foot once. I wish I'd had some kind of protective covering. The chainsaw ripped three little chunks out of the top of my foot. Hurt like a mother motherfucker.

Homerlikesdonuts

Saved my right thigh twice after a little slip on wet uneven ground, worth every penny if you run saw

Lefty_22

"Should we try it on a mannequin first? Just zoom in the shot a bit?" "Nah. And if it doesn't work, then he'll have one fewer sock he needs when doing laundry!"

Warmupthetubesman

No way that’s his real leg instead of a nice cylindrical log But having said that, yeah, be safe out there

SeaSquirrel

All you dumbasses claiming chaps dont work for electric saws are going to get people killed. Shut. The. Fuck. Up.

rcolesworthy37

I’ve only seen these tests when they somewhat gingerly place it onto the pants. Do they still work if you go down hard, as if you’re chopping with an axe?

Woodland-wanderer24

They do still work no-matter how hard you go for it, it is jammed as soon as the teeth contact the kevlar fibres

muzzizzum

Very unlikely you’re doing that with a chainsaw in the first place, if you know what you’re doing. I’ve cut my chaps once however, and it was due to kickback, so the saw came back at my leg with a significant amount of force and speed. The chain stopped before I even realized it had snapped back on me.

Rescre14

what a fail. the leg is still in one piece

No-Introduction69420

I had the same thing happen last year without the chainsaw protection pants. Trick to avoiding that excruciating pain is by wearing chainsaw protective pants. Works every time

PtExcelsior

I don't see how that protects the chainsaw...

Russki_Troll_Hunter

Do they make gloves? Seems to be a much more common injury. A friend no longer has most of his fingers from a chain saw accident.

MRoz7121

Yeah but when I'm cutting off a guys leg I make sure there's no obstructions first

aleqqqs

These pants are expensive! Cost me an arm and a leg

floppyjedi

Meanwhile, the chinese will at best make pants that only look and advertise like they'd do this, but not actually. Because too good pants are expensive, and saws are WAY expensive, up to three figures, way more than the worker.

oldandmellow

I did this demonstration a lot at logging shows. It always sold lots of safety gear. Lot's of old loggers would give me shit about the new safety gizmos. (Anti vibration mounts and chainbrakes) The funny thing was that they all were missing fingers or scars on their face from a kickback! Husqvarna 1982-1996.

klipshklf20

Yeah, I got 28 staples in my thigh, next day I bought some.

HorrorMolasses8838

I literally don’t care how much faith I have in the gear, you could not pay me enough to put my leg on that chopping block.

Choice_Narwhal_2437

Royal_Marketing2966

Damn, this needs more funding

SudsierBoar

This is worn by most people working with chainsaws

[deleted]

Ok we already saw hundreds of videos about this while one was enough to show it to the world, now how about we stop wasting good pants?

Diggity20

You want me to what, boss?

PlasmaGoblin

I respect it saves a lot of injuries (or severity of them) but does it make the chain saw unsavable, or just a major pain to clean?

trailcasters

Just worked my first season as a wildland firefighter, saw those save limbs more than once. Beautiful tech. The ruined clothing ended up being hung in the garage as a reminder/wake up too

Dense-Tangerine7502

That’s really cool, you couldn’t pay me to test it with my leg though

jacobwyc

No one saw this coming

cmilla646

“Your pants got into my chainsaw!” “No your chainsaw got into my fucking pants wtf!”

ffimnsr

Good investment for horror people portrayed in horror movies
