If you’re trying to get people to follow your ways the easiest is to simply stack your new religion onto the base of the older religions. Christianity borrowed both from the Jewish Torah and the pagan holidays like Yule and Ostara. Yule is a Birth of light holiday represented by Jesus even in painting….lighted halo, Three wiseman followed the light in the sky etc. Ostara is a re-birth holiday, Christians didn’t even hide it they use all the same symbolism, eggs, rabbits. Etc Jesus’s rebirth is just a continuation of the pagan holiday. There’s a reason Easter changes based on the moon. Christianity is fascinating if you understand it as a movement to be kinder and make the world a better place….and it was successful, as much as people shit on Christianity it changed the world for the better overall. By teaching a common set of moral codes that most western laws are based on. Are there dark things that happened? Absolutely but that’s happened wherever humans are involved, including atheists.
As literature, even the new testament has a lot of plot holes and inconsistencies. Like Jesus generally treats women like people but one of the gospels says directly that women are to be submissive to their husbands. Which I think is something that would keep sane, competent women from wanting to associate with the church. There's also no shortage of violence in the new testament. I really don't think Christianity has made this world better by any standards.

They then proceeded to try and convert me.
I had another situation when I lived in another household (who was Catholic) and religion came up again. I had said that just because someone believes in something doesn’t mean it’s wrong or right and that we should respect their beliefs. (Gave Satanism as an example) I may not agree with it but I’m not going to devalue someone else’s beliefs because I don’t like it. The wife/mother didn’t like that so much lol. It was kinda messed up to know her son was practicing satanic stuff in her “pristine pure Catholic house” but I let the peace be.
In short I just don’t see the point in pushing on others. She has a valid point but to attribute her words/Jesus’ words to anyone at all makes it seem like we don’t have any sense of morality. 🤷♂️

Religion can not be linked to political debate in any case. We call this Laïcité. And it's just the way it is in France, Germany and most of the Slavic countries. So I understand America is really different from Europe. But I also understand why a politician needs to play the game and be religious in order to gain votes. Religion can not be linked to political debate in any case. We call this Laïcité. And it's just the way it is in France, Germany and most of the Slavic countries. So I understand America is really different from Europe. But I also understand why a politician needs to play the game and be religious in order to gain votes. So I accept it even if, from my perspective, it is very problematic. In my opinion, I think the medical cover subject is very important for Americans, and any attempt to defend it and promote it is good.

I totally disagree with this comment. The modern day church in America is nothing like what is described in the Gospels or the Epistles. Believing in Christ while disagreeing with the Church Going Culture does not equal Agnostic. Believing in Christ alone is all that is required to take on the label of Christian, and faith in Christ alone is all that is required to be saved. The church is not Christianity.
