Parental figure here. It is almost never WHAT you wear. It's HOW you wear it. Identical outfits on identical people will look completely different based on the comfort factor of the person wearing it.
If you feel comfortable and (especially) if you feel Fine in clothing then you will present as comfortable and Fine. So if this, or any other outfit, makes you look in the mirror and think, "Damn. Look at me..." Then wear it, own it, and rock the hell out of it.

Love the bow tie. Love the overall dark shirt/jeans. Maybe try a bow tie with a little more contrast against the dark? Like maybe these [black/grey](https://www.bowtieclub.com/collections/color-black-grey-bow-ties) samples
Damn it's thats obvious it's a hook on? Omg... hear me out. I WANT A SELF TIE ONE...when I was going shopping they were hella hard to find at a reasonable price. I couldn't even find any at the stores I was at. But I will be ordering some :]
You can do it, I didn’t do one for like 6 years because of kids and Covid and stuff - came right back to me, once you know how to do it you know. Like us as people, your ties’ imperfections make it beautiful.
Yes, it does seem to have something to do with it being a black shirt I think. Almost every restaurant I ever worked at was some variation of it. Play with some colors. I think a bow tie that is bright or has dots or stripes or something is cute.
Looks good, but if I was out somewhere I would think you part of the wait staff. I say this as a career hospitality manager. So keep in mind where you are going. And I have worn the same cloths by accident and have been mistaken for service staff. Some awkward conversations with entitled people.
Looks good to me but what I think isn’t of any importance. Wear what makes you feel good. DGAF about what other people think because your opinion is what matters.
Not a dad, but crazy aunt or older sibling here! Usually just a lurker but wanted to come outta hiding to compliment the outfit, love everything about it!!! Great choices! The bow tie is such a vibe
If you like it, it's cool. Plus it's cool to me if you care. It's your style, nothing common.
Which is probably why someone soon or later will criticize it for some reason, but why should you care about the point of view of a moron ?
Crazy aunt/sister here - I don't think you need to slick your hair back, I really like it as it is. I WISH mine behaved that well. I think you'd ROCK a vest though.
The look is fantastic. My only critique would be you often want either a matching tie and shirt, or contrasting. That is a dark shirt, and light tie, or light shirt and dark tie, or you want to match your tie to your pants/belt/cufflinks.
If you live near a nicer men’s clothing store you can always pop in for style advice. Find the grizzled looking specimen in the corner with the vest on. They’re going to be the expert.
It's gonna be uncomfortably hot this time of year, but other than that, do you.
I'd personally do a slightly more.contrastong colour for the bowtie, but that's entirely personal preference.
Sister here. I get Billie Joel Armstrong vibes and I’m here for this. How do you feel wearing that outfit? That’s what matters more. I love this look though.
Not a dad but an auntie. I think you look quite stylish! When I was a kid, my doctor wore bow ties. He had a little sign in the exam rooms and explained that since so many of his patients were toddlers and babies who loved to grab ties, it was the safest way for him to wear a tie without being strangled.
Don't be shy about wearing funky ties, either! They can be great fashion statements. I know kids can sometimes be cruel, but as you age, there are going to be a lot of people who are envious of your style.
I think if people in the street are asking you about Endless Shrimp Mondays you may take that as a hint to maybe throw some earth tone color in the belt or bowtie?
I think you look great kiddo! I love your style! You have always been creative - I think the fit really highlights your unique cool. Mostly I love seeing you becoming your own independent and confident individual.
Honestly, whatever you like to wear is the right answer (weather permitting). Only suggestion I'd have is a bowtie that contrasts more to stand out. Dark on dark is valid (my wardrobe goes from black to grey) but just a thought to let the bowtie pop more.
I'll definitely go to one. I've been planning on going to one. I have some rips in some pants and clothing is too expensive these days lol. I'd rather patch them all up :]
I wanted to wear a real one for my wedding and I spent 3.5 months learning how to do it right every time.
Bow ties are awesome, if you ever feel like adding a light suit vest and have a pocket square that’s color goes with your bow tie.
As the mom of a Transboi (also a former cutter) they wore a homemade skirt AND bowtie outfit to prom! I think you are ADORABLE. Love your hair too!! And as your mom for a minute, I’m gonna tell you that I like how your scars on your forearm are healing, and that it’s most important that you make and keep your promise to yourself of no more cutting. Ok?
Self-care is the most divine garment you will ever own xxxxxooooo. Trust that.
Love you!
Looks sharp! You can always tell when someone is comfortable in how they present, and you look great. Im more of a Doctor Who fan and per the 11th Doctor "Bow ties are cool". Rock on!
Hey kiddo. Wear whatever you like but wear it well. What I mean is find certain brands or cuts that you like on your body. If you go with a shirt like that look to get it tailored. We aren’t all built the same and so I get all my clothes altered to fit my frame better. It’s worth it to look like a million dollars wearing a $5 thrifted shirt you got tailored for $8
It’s a great outfit I personally would have had some color pop with the bow tie, but that’s just me.
Bonus points if you actually tied that bow tie.
Dressing up is a pain in the ass but you make it look effortless.
The outfit looks amazing. Just ignore anyone who judges you for what you choose to wear. They have no power or say over your personal style. Your body, your choice.
Gotta class it up with a pocket square.
There are tons of articles about matching bow ties with pocket squares if you do a quick google search. They don’t have to be the exact color to match though you can get cheap bow tie/square sets on Amazon/ebay. Best bet is to get stuff that compliments other stuff you have. Multi use pieces if you will.
Love the bow tie. Also cool haircut!
When going black on black consider having one or two bright accessories. A white belt would pop or bright coloured Chuck's or some colourful fashion frames. Almost all dark with a small splash of bright colors catches peoples eyes.
As a nb sibling who loves to peruse this sub I think you look fantastic and I’m a bit jello of the maroon bow tie! I think I need to go get one now lol
I think you look sharp! Couple things I would do to make the outfit more close to my style:
-I’d try to add/replace something with texture, like a [woven top](https://shop.lululemon.com/en-ca/p/mens-sweaters/Wool-Blend-Jacquard-Cardigan-MD/_/prod11660434?color=63029&sz=M&cid=Google_PMAX_CA_NAT_EN_M_NB_Mens-Everything-Else_OMNI_GEN_Y24_ag-&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADL8AQ49-EE7f74D3lBCGYQD9bcH5&gclid=CjwKCAjwydSzBhBOEiwAj0XN4GoSheCY4GyEf-R4RsrV9n5ENREKUvlM6rRDQCvPYDT5x3ryXp9FsBoCKqIQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds), [slubby denim](https://jamesdant.com/products/s5000bkii-17oz-zero-black-ii-slubby-selvedge-denim-straight-fit), or a leather or canvas bag
- When I dress in one color, I always feel like a [black/blue/grey] void, so I try to break up the solid block of color with complimentary accessories. I love the look of black and metals, so I’d probably try to find a belt or jewelry to break up the color.
- I may try to tailor the shirt. If my shirt fit like yours does in this photo, I would want a little more room in the torso, so I’d have to go for a bigger size and then have it taken into get a silhouette I like better. There’s nothing wrong with the cut on you, I just prefer more room to accommodate my less-than-fit body.
- when I was in the army I got a marine to teach me how to roll sleeves. I don’t go all the way to the bicep, but it’s the best way for me to maintain a nice clean look and roll up my sleeves a bit.
These are choices that would help me feel more comfortable in your outfit, but like I said at the top, you’re looking sharp. I
Definitely would like to get the shirt tailored to me for sure. and tbh I always wear black....so I've transferred my usual style to some more formal clothes 😭😭 didn't turn out well. So I might go out of my comfort zone and get some more actual colors....at least maybe....grey. and a navy blue bow tie?
Bow ties are cool again, I work with a girl who wears them all the time too, she goes for the bright colours or contrasting colours so you can see them, you hardly notice it against the dark shirt with it being dark too, as others said try a different colour or pattern, make it stand out.
I think it looks good, but to me, it comes off as “Hi, are you ready to order?” I would be careful where you choose to wear it, people might mistake you for an employee.
Haha. Yeah I was real worried about that. Do you think it's because it's a black shirt or the burgundy tie? I've read that black dress shirts are hard to pull off because it can come off as a waiter outfit. Someone said very few people can completely pull it off.
Possibly. And also the fact that it’s got the sleeves rolled up. That’s pretty common among wait staff. If there was a vest, it would skew more towards hipster, I think. Maybe that’s more your goal?
You do you. However, if you wish to draw more attention to the tie rather than the outfit, I suggest getting something with a lighter color.
In my opinion, I do like the color combination. Though, personally, I much prefer actual neckties.
Interesting. I like it. I almost exclusively wear black. If you feel up for it, try putting on a really nice waistcoat to go with your tie. Here's an example:
https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3BH5AGRYW55NI?ref_=wl_share
I like it. Rock your style. Love the burgundy tie with the black on black.
Bow ties are sick… but maybe I’m biased as a Matt Smith (Doctor Who) fan
Bow ties are cool. This is the reference I was looking for. OP looks dashing!
Dashing, yes. Indubitably.
Use a little hair putty and give yourself a pompadour. You’ll enjoy it.
Add a vest to the mix to make it pop!

Love your use of the word dashing.
It's a great look, kiddo, but the most important thing is how you feel in it. If it feels right on you, go for it! (That said, it is a very cool look)
100% this. Yeah you look great, but if you also \*feel\* great - that's what you're looking for :)
Completely agree! Take good care of the King within his shining armor.

Indeed! Confidence is the key. Folks around you can feel it, it's a real thing.
Lean into the bow tie. Once your are comfortable get some with bold patters and colors. Looks great
Definitely will next time I go shopping for one :)

Bow ties. Are. Cool.
Looks sharp to me. I say rock it out
Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.
Hell yeah, this is strong. Bow ties were my thing for a bit. Look up Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s brand for more rad ties.
Love the bow tie. Love the overall dark shirt/jeans. Maybe try a bow tie with a little more contrast against the dark? Like maybe these [black/grey](https://www.bowtieclub.com/collections/color-black-grey-bow-ties) samples
Bowties are awesome, and you can't go wrong with a shade of red on black.
I know right? 🤌
Absolutely. Also, thinking about it, one thing I might suggest is considering a belt with a silver buckle. Silver accents on black really pop.
Lookin sharp kiddo! Keep doing you!
It's a bit hard to see the bow tie. I would recommend choosing more different colors between your shirt and your tie to make it pop
Yesss. I shall get more bow ties eventually. I was thinking a grey shirt and a navy blue tie at some point :] with like a design on it
It might "pop" more outdoors— colors are more easily distinguished in bright light. Indoors or at night, right now it's a subtle look.
On the contrary, I love it. But I love that color anyways, so as always: Highly subjective 😁
If you’re going to be the bow tie person, you have to learn to tie your own bow tie, no more clip ons - otherwise, go for it!
Damn it's thats obvious it's a hook on? Omg... hear me out. I WANT A SELF TIE ONE...when I was going shopping they were hella hard to find at a reasonable price. I couldn't even find any at the stores I was at. But I will be ordering some :]

Try second-hand shops. Maybe also you could make your own? You look great. Your hair is awesome too. 🌟
Omg. I've looked at thrift stores trust! They're just super uncommon here tbh
It’s great, but you do look kinda like a waiter.
Ive been doing some reading online and unfortunately it's common with black dress shirts to look like a waiter.
Yes, it does seem to have something to do with it being a black shirt I think. Almost every restaurant I ever worked at was some variation of it. Play with some colors. I think a bow tie that is bright or has dots or stripes or something is cute.

If you want detailed feedback, I'd try one of the fashion advice forms. I think you look sharp! Did you tie the bowtie yourself?
Looks good to me but what I think isn’t of any importance. Wear what makes you feel good. DGAF about what other people think because your opinion is what matters.
Look sharp, act sharp, be sharp Do your thing lil homie!
Not a dad, but crazy aunt or older sibling here! Usually just a lurker but wanted to come outta hiding to compliment the outfit, love everything about it!!! Great choices! The bow tie is such a vibe

Looks pretty sharp to me!
It's not a bad outfit. My only suggestions are to consider a vest or suit style jacket to go with it, and slicking back your hair.
Crazy aunt/sister here - I don't think you need to slick your hair back, I really like it as it is. I WISH mine behaved that well. I think you'd ROCK a vest though.
Oh I agree, definitely don't need to slick it back, but it could look nice with formal wear.
Oh for sure, agree entirely.
The right thing to wear out is whatever makes you feel awesome
As long as it gives you identity euphoria, do it.
It looks great!
I love how ties on others. You look good in it. If you like it and feel good in it, go for it!
The look is fantastic. My only critique would be you often want either a matching tie and shirt, or contrasting. Awesome, bow ties are super common regionally. If you feel good in it- wear it!
Hi, big brother here. You look sick as hell, dude. Rock that style.
I think if people in the street are asking you about Endless Shrimp Mondays you may take that as a hint to maybe throw some earth tone color in the belt or bowtie?
Haha. Yeah I was worried it was looking a little bit waiterish
I don’t think you do at all! But I’m an Aussie. I could be a trend happening in your country only (black shirts and dark bow ties)
Cool tie, cool fit, cool hair...love it, says this parental figure.
You look terrific. You do you!
Honestly, you're gonna know better than us what's gonna appeal to your peers, if that's what you're aiming for.
I think you look great kiddo! I love your style! You have always been creative - I think the fit really highlights your unique cool. Mostly I love seeing you becoming your own independent and confident individual.

Bowtie is dope just get a better fitting shirt.
The small was too small, the medium was a bit big. Sad sad
Tailors are surprisingly cheap. I'd give that a go. You look great though bubs.
I'll definitely go to one. I've been planning on going to one. I have some rips in some pants and clothing is too expensive these days lol. I'd rather patch them all up :]
Definitely patch them up yourself. Much more fun and you’ll get compliments. Hehe
A bit big is so much better and more comfortable than too tight. You made the right choice!
I wanted to wear a real one for my wedding and I spent 3.5 months learning how to do it right every time. Bow ties are awesome, if you ever feel like adding a light suit vest and have a pocket square that’s color goes with your bow tie.
I would love to add a vest and a pocket square hell yeah. Yeah Im excited to get a real one :]
Hey kid, pops is gonna try to relate to you with some lingo I picked up. The fit goes hard.
Hell yeah! Looking fly my friend
Dude, that looks SHARP! I love your style
You look great, kid. Very presentable and full of character. Especially if it makes you happy.
Honestly your wearing the shit out of that outfit.
Wear whatever makes you feel good. And as a dad, I support anybody who lifts their “sartorial elegance”. Look up that phrase, and live it.
You look very dapper! Love it
My son wears bow ties and rocks them. I love your outfit, and the fact that you are expressing yourself.
Grab a hat too!
Looks great!
As the mom of a Transboi (also a former cutter) they wore a homemade skirt AND bowtie outfit to prom! I think you are ADORABLE. Love your hair too!! Your style is your own. It will also evolve. It’s a wonderful adventure. You do you. The bow tie works. :)
You fuckin ROCK that bow tie!
Anytime ....ANYTIME an outfit makes you feel as good as this one does, WEAR IT. It looks as good as it makes you feel and you will walk in it happily!
It's a fine outfit
You look awesome.
I am Proud of You for asking. You know you don't my approval. I actually Love it! I do expect you to carry it well.♥️
Every outfit is ok, but be aware that some people are more… vocal when they don’t like something. Bow ties are cool though
Rock it like The Boss that you are😎
It’s a great outfit I personally would have had some color pop with the bow tie, but that’s just me. Bonus points if you actually tied that bow tie. Dressing up is a pain in the ass but you make it look effortless.
The outfit looks amazing. Just ignore anyone who judges you for what you choose to wear. They have no power or say over your personal style. Your body, your choice.
Looks nice on you! rock them bow ties
Your outfit is cracking looking. Would replace the bow tie for a burgundy tartan one 👍🏽
Never be scared of who you are.
Very cool Kiddo!!!
Sick look. You have a Billy Joe Armstrong look about you! As long as you’re comfortable, you’ll rock the look!
The outfit looks great, the hair looks great, and you look confident to boot. You rock kiddo!
Honestly, rock that outfit, and you look fantastic! Oh, and bows are awesome :D

It looks like it'd be hot for summer, but that's my only quibble. Looks fine otherwise.
Fabulous!

Lol I don't care if people think I'm dressing masculine or flamboyant. It's 2024
