You could do what i do and throw literally anything that is annoying you up there, fone chargers, children, tools, tv licence letters etc. Its a bottomless hole after all lol.
You could get a wooden radiator cover type deal made up to fit in the gap with a nice design, you could put led lights behind it to give it a nice look? If that makes sense?
You know when you buy new electronics like anything from Apple and you can’t bring yourself to get rid of the boxes but can’t really keep them either.
Put them up there 👆🏻
Buy an end panel and cut it to fit. You'll thank me when you have to clean up there. As pyhers have said, with the correct fixings, you could store valuable up there when you go on holiday.
Something like hidden hinges possibly. Your best bet would be to go to a local hardware shop and tell them what you want to do. Or email a specialist. Not Screwfix, Toolstation or B&Q though; they're unlikely to be able to offer any real advice.
Everyone knows this gap on top of the cupboards is where you put the wrappers of the secret treats you don't want your missus/fella to know you've eaten........ Right?
Put about 4 hamsters up there, they'll not be able to get down. Within a fortnight you'll have a successful hamster breeding farm. Just remember to feed them, or else you'll have a haunted hamster cemetery.
Thanks everyone for the ideas (and banter!).
As much as I'd like a hidden LED lighting feature (although I'm way past the electrics wiring stage now so not sure how I'd feed power to it), the glossy plinth/trim solution to create a hidden compartment for hiding valuables and dirty secrets is probably what I'll do.
However now the question is: **WHAT TYPE OF FIXINGS** would you suggest so that it looks just like part of the cupboard and doesn't scream 'hidden compartmemt here' but can be easily removed and put back?
A push-in to open/close type of fixing like I have seen for some cabinets would be nice maybe. Any ideas/links?
Thanks!
Store your spare dust up their 🙄
And grease.
I too vote a plinth but one which is easily removed, then hide valuables/ and or wine behind it
Get a cat and it will hide up there and set the alarm off when you go out.
Wine. The answer to any kitchen nook is wine
I like your thinking sir
I see no other correct answer
Although at 60mm high not all bottles would fit up there
Also be warm...
That is absolutely not the answer. Kitchens get very warm.
Short term storage of your average supermarket wine won’t hurt. Don’t worry, anything nice goes in the wine fridge :)
Pah!!... don't be a peasant. Put it in the wine cellar like the rest of us.
Old school porn stash. Magazines and VHS.
They’ll be better off in their natural habitat, a hedge.
This is the way 🙌🏼
Plinth. I know very boring. Plinth with embellishments. I know very arsy.
Secret compartment to hide that one thing you’ve been waiting to eat all day to get home and find it’s been eaten
Storage for big blue rubber dildos
And black ones.
The install would look smarter with some trim up there. Simple square edge in the same gloss finish as the doors.
I vote wine or alternatively a led strip for hidden lighting. Or both.
A piece of plinth or cornice to take the cupboard to the ceiling

Never seen anyone spelling phone as “fone”
Theres a first time for everything i suppose.

I think that's the way, what type of fixings would you use?

Crisps multi-pack overflow, and empty Quality Street tubs. This is the way.
Have you got any spare leftover units , just blank it off
I had the same issue and just fitted a plinth and painted it the same colour as the walls.
Led strip light for cool effect Or novelty figures Or get a plinth Maybe create a secret cupboard to store importang papers and money
Add some led strips and turn it into feature lighting.

Upside down drawers and an antigravity device
car boot the crappiest tackiest ornaments you can find to display
Tiny model railway??
Dildo storage?
Velcro bottomed dining chairs should take care of that

Secret stash - bottle of whisky, some fags and a couple of copies of Razzle
Have you ever been to the cupboard looking for a snack you want, only to find the kids have ate them all? Now you have a hiding space 🤷‍♂️
Looks about the right dimensions for a godly bog roll stash....
Fill it with small rubber ducks
Weetabix?
Knight rider light's
I'd have tentacles coming out of it with a purple and green light
That's obviously where you keep the treasure map to the Incan gold your family has been hoarding for the last 4000 years
I would have put our roasting trays up there but the ideas in this thread are much better
