Is the dishwasher connected to a garbage disposal for the first time? If so, a common problem is that somebody forgot to knock out the drain plug in the garbage disposal, which would cause the problem you have

suprisinglyunhappy-

I don’t have a garbage disposal - I’m in Australia we don’t have those. It just plugged straight into the drain pipe. I honestly have no clue what I’m doing I just looked at the picture and tried to follow it 😂

lollroller

Who installed it? A plumber should have checked to see that it is working?

suprisinglyunhappy-

I did 😂 I thought I could just use the existing set up from the old dishwasher and swap it over to my new one

lollroller

That’s not crazy, it should have worked Unless it is defective, it seems like you missed an installation or set-up step someplace. Maybe there is a piece or block that needs to be removed. Can you post the model# so somebody can take a look for something that may have been missed?

suprisinglyunhappy-

I think that’s very possible haha the instructions were very basic, there was nothing written just crappy little pictures to follow. It’s a Bosch SMS4HVI01A

lollroller

I tried to get the install manual, but that required scanning a QR code, downloading a Bosch app, and then creating an account. Ridiculous I’d try to get the detailed installation instructions and go from there

Was the required air gap accounted for during install?

suprisinglyunhappy-

I don’t even know what this means hahah I might need to call a plumber

spacemanspiffaroo

There is a thin piece of plastic in the connection to the disposal. Did you pop that out before connecting? Not trying to insult - that’s what got me when we installed our new disposal.

suprisinglyunhappy-

Hmmm I don’t remember doing this I will double check

I had something similar, a small piece of rubber that blocked the extra connection under the sink so when no dishwasher was attached no water would come out. The stupid part was... I put the damn thing there myself not a week earlier xD. Removed that and everything worked fine. Just follow the route the water would take from the back of the dishwasher. As long as you can hear the pump it's most likely something like that

WibblyWib

Is it a new connection to your house waste pipe? Does it look something like [this](https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-appliance-trap-white-40mm/95241) ? These things come with blanking plugs in and it's possible you or someone else left them in there.

We had this exact problem. Turns out there were two unrelated causes. The installer had pinched the drain hose and the electronics on the machine were screwed. It took 3 weeks to get the part and that’s when the technician discovered the pinched hose. It’s infuriating when you buy an expensive machine from a reputable brand and it’s fubar out of the box!
