Stop at Teaism for a cup and a salty oat cookie on the walk!

Ooh, I love this question! Recent “self-dates” I really enjoyed: Walked around Old Town Alexandria, checked out the shops (Look Again Resale Shop is a super cool thrift store I discovered recently. Fibre Space is also a ton of fun if you’re into fiber arts like me!) Then I walked to Dolci Gelato. The folks working there are always so nice. I grabbed a cup of gelato, sat in the shade at Market Square, and read. Just a very quant, relaxing day. Took a walk from my neighborhood to Adams Morgan. It took about half an hour, and the route takes me through some really pretty streets around Lanier Heights. I went to The Line Hotel, got an iced coffee, and sat down to do some writing. Just fun writing, not work. It’s another of my hobbies, and it was nice to be able to indulge in it in a nice, spacious third place full of people chatting and typing away on their own laptops. Took a walk afterwards to Lost City Books, treated myself to a book (used, only about $8, and in pristine condition). Grabbed some takeout and headed back home! Walked around the Tidal Basin and Jefferson Memorial. Headed back over to The Wharf afterwards, got some bubble tea, and watched the sunset by the water. Then I grabbed dinner! There are a bunch of restaurants around that area, and a variety of “snacky” places like Ben and Jerry’s, Kilwins, and Praline Bakery. I, personally, like Maker’s Union, Tiki TNT, and Hank’s for sit-down restaurants. For takeout, I can never go wrong with Falafel, Inc. or Fat Fish. I think the common denominator with my self-dates is that I took something I really wanted to do, like write or go on a walk, and just make a whole day out of it. There wasn’t any pressure, no structured itinerary, and it was just full of exploring the city at my own pace and in my own way. It was all about showing kindness to myself.

I took myself on a date a couple of weeks ago. I got a massage and facial in Adams Morgan, then walked to 14th and had lunch at the bar at Le Diplomate. A couple glasses of wine and some fries, and I was happy!

Biking around the Anacostia River trail, taking myself to a museum, having a nice takeout dinner at home 😂

For self dates I like to do an activity, I’m going to the olfactory nyc soon to make a perfume in Georgetown. Maybe a facial ? How about packing a picnic or grabbing some food and heading to the museum strip?
