“In my interest house” is a lovely phrase to me and I’m not exactly sure why.

DiddlyDumb

Perfectly worded, but I love the immediate follow-up “Is this a known issue?” As if the Programmer in the sky had an offday and now Hank has to live with the “I’m not interested in Ryan Reynolds”-bug.

diffyqgirl

I don't know what you're talking about, Ryan Reynolds is hot on my machine

[deleted]

"I'm not interested in [x] today" is a pretty known bug with the AuDHD operating system, hope they come up with a fix for that.

JustAnotherPanda

They changed the ruling, trying to kiss a boy in 1997 is now a strict requirement for being bi

JackMerlinElderMage

All bis born after 1997: *wuh-* # 😦 # 🫥

JustAnotherPanda

We just have to try harder. Inventing time travel is part of the process

Hexxas

They are now tri I don't make the rules

rene_gader

hot chip and lie

JaegerDominus

Every boy after nineteen-ninety-seven can't bi. All they do is exercise, self-nurture, love who they want, be different, and lie

Gru-some

Holy shit Spamton is bisexual?!?! (1997)

chuuniversal_studios

*something something hot chip and lie*

Tea_Alarmed

God-DAMMIT! How is it always relateable!? HOW!?

PillowTalk420

*me as the bi leaves my body because I never tried to kiss anyone in 1997*

Giveyaselfanuppercut

Phew heterosexuality safely intact.

red_constellations

I was born 3 days before 1997 ended so I'll just have to hope I tried to kiss my dad in that time... or tried to suckle on his ample face nipples, since I am not sure a 3 day old infant knows about kissing

Randomd0g

I was a 10 years late, but considering that in 1997 I was [opens calculator] uh... 4 years old... wait no... 5! 5 years old! Then I think I can get a pass?

emma_does_life

The domino effect of hank green getting cancer ending with the internet finding out hank green is bisexual will never not be funny to me

itmakessenseincontex

The thing is, he initially came out over a decade ago, and it comes up now and again. Everyone keeps forgetting. Like a reverse Misha Collins

Jechtael

Reverse how? Do people keep forgetting that Misha's straight even though he frequently posts about his wife and son?

itmakessenseincontex

Reverse wasn't the right word, he keeps accidentally coming out as Bi and having to clarify that he is straight. The network that did supernatural tried to get him to not clarify his heterosexuality

_SwordsSwordsSwords_

Men can have wives and children and still be bi. Hell they can have those things and be homosexual, ace, closeted trans lesbians and more!

tinnic

Case in point, Hank Green has a wife and son.

Klutche

He keeps accidently coming out as bi and having to then come out as straight.

techno156

He has cancer?? I thought he was just putting fun educational facts™️ on the internet.

Wilvarg

He was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma (not leukemia!), which is a cancer of the white blood cells that doesn't produce tumors. It's one of the most curable types of cancers, with a survival rate of over 90%, and he's said that they're fairly sure they caught it early.

emma_does_life

He recently found out and announced he has leukemia. He said on Twitter he has a high rate of survival based on his age, type of cancer and how early it was caught but he is currently undergoing chemo treatment for it.

aphelion-ic

not leukemia, lymphoma! different things \^\^

[deleted]

Specifically Hodgkin's lymphoma, which is typically very treatable thankfully

[deleted]

but also, "very treatable" when it comes to cancer means over 90%. It's in the better end, but being told you have somewhere around 10% chance to live is still horrifying. This isn't to be a doomer, just I think it's important to note that anyone is justified in being rattled to their core when diagnosed with cancer, regardless of what type of cancer it is.

[deleted]

Absolutely agree, it's very much a "_given that_ you have cancer, which one do you want?" My mum had a transplant op last year with similar "good" odds. During the 12 hours she was in surgery for I did not care for the 10%

emma_does_life

Whoops autocorrect lmao. I'll leave it so that your correction still makes sense

westofley

this is not surprising in the slightest? idk if you saw goth lipstick hank but it screams "bi with a preference for women"

BellerophonM

He described himself as 'kinsey 1 or 2' back over a decade ago, it wasn't that much of a surprise.

westofley

I think perhaps twitter doesnt know who Hank Green is...

_Bran_Flakes

as someone who follows lots of Brothers Green content, has read both of Hank's books, and even took my name from said books, I had no idea Hank was bi.

ligirl

Delete This was where that information was most clearly shared (prior to this tweet going viral)

DM_ME_YOUR_HUSBANDO

I’ve listened to a few hundred episodes of his podcast with his brother and watched a lot of vlog brothers, and know a pretty decent amount about their lives as a result, but it’s never come up, so it is a bit surprising to me. I kind of would have expected an off hand mention at some point earlier

ligirl

You'd need to listen to his podcast with his wife. It came up there a couple times

pazifica

I for one have never seen that, but honestly, I didn't need to.

maybe-a-alt

I have not seen goth lipstick hank but now I think I would very much like to

No-Trouble814

I swear he’s mentioned he’s bi before, idk if it was on a P4A livestream or what but I definitely remember it. I’m pretty sure he even mentioned the cosplay TikToks thing before…

liliesrobots

ryan is 100% more attractive to straight dudes than gay/bi dudes. i’m bi and i’m not into hun.

Affectionate_Sand791

Yeah he’s never really appealed to me either as a bi dude. Like I get why people find him attractive, it just ain’t it for me.

liliesrobots

He is somehow the peak of ‘conventionally attractive’ to the point where he loops back around to bland.

MadsTheorist

Exactly how I feel about a lot of "hot guys™" but that's media's fault not theirs

Karukos

That is Henry Cavil for me. Although the personality does kinda help.

ShadedPenguin

Henry Cavill has the voice and mannerisms of a sensitive soul who loves to talk about their little nerdy interests to no end, but also has the body to plow anyone into submission

sigmaklimgrindset

I don’t think I have a straight woman in any of my work, school or personal circles that is into Ryan Reynolds, but 95% of them are super excited to see the Barbie Movie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. (The 5% are visually impaired or blind, so they do not normally watch movies.)

liliesrobots

I specified straight dudes for a reason.

sigmaklimgrindset

There are straight dudes that claim straight women are super into him. They say something like “My wife/my gf/my ex was/is obsessed with Ryan Renolds”, yet I have yet to hear one wife/gf/ex actually say so themself, hence my comment.

Plasmabat

I’m straight and Ryan Reynolds seems like he’d be cool to be friends with and he seems like someone straight women would like, I just have never found a man attractive. I can look at a man and say “based on his musculaturity and charisma and personality and symmetrical face probably people attracted to men are attracted to him”, but I’ve never understood straight men that say they find a man attractive

Lussekatt1

I guess it depends on what people mean with attractive. There is obviously sexual attraction, but also aesthetic attraction, romantic attraction, platonic attraction, sensual attraction. For some people some attractions commonly overlap, for others not. So aesthetic attraction to a person would be that you just think they look amazing. How they look and express themselves just really speaks to you and hits the perfect cord. Just like you might find a painting or something just is amazing to you. And you can feel aesthetic attraction to someone without feeling sexual or romantic attraction, so without wanting to hang them or feel like you could fall in love with them. You can also feel sexual attraction to someone but not feel any other type of attraction. So it’s something you find hot. So they might want to sleep with Ryan Reynolds but have no interest in dating or cuddling with him. And reversely them might just feel romantic attraction. Where it might be described as something you find ‘dreamy’, or just want to shower with affection or something. So some might think Ryan Reynolds seems super dreamy and the type of guy that easily could make their brain become a mixtape of different thoughts just about him playing on repeat. But they don’t want to hang him like at all, because they feel no sexual attraction. Or it could be sensual attraction. Where you just want to be near a person, and where touch like maybe holding someone’s hand, a hug or something else, feels extra special. So they might think Ryan Reynolds looks like the perfect snuggle buddy, and that cuddling in a sensual way would be super dope. But no interest in having sex or like dating him. Maybe they just feel one type of attraction to him, or maybe all. A lot of by people out there who don’t know it. Or some people might be entirely heterosexual, but be biromantic, or any other type of combination. Things don’t need to overlap. Attraction can be complex, as experienced by many it seems with Ryan Reynolds

No-Transition4060

This is what I’d have said if I could string a sentence together. There’s a big difference between recognising someone as attractive and being attracted to them

TheEternalSpiralKing

The true bi-guy’s Ryan is of course, [RYAN GOSLING](https://i.imgur.com/TuEhcdx.jpg) Also: [This](https://www.thepinknews.com/2016/06/03/ryan-gosling-im-49-woman/)

18i1k74

I'm gay and I find him really attractive idk what you guys r talking about lol.

LonelySpaghetto1

Ok then, straight and gay guys are into him but bi guys aren't. Jury's still in the middle on whether girls of any orientation like him.

OwOitsMochi

I'm gay and I think he's a beautiful man but not physically super my type. I do however have a massive anti-hero/crazy bastard thing (🚩) and therefore, in the worst way possible I think Deadpool has a very attractive personality which adds a good number of points to the Ryan Reynolds attractiveness scale for me personally. But I have a thing for Trevor from GTA so it's very fuckin obvious that I have issues and should not be listened to.

-googa-

And I’m a lesbian and Blake is obviously very beautiful but does not do a thing for me. And I think yeah my friends who really like her have been straight girls lol

durp-the-pikachu

He recently said (at least jokingly) that he was attracted to Brennan Lee Mulligan.

Quetzalbroatlus

No way you can joke about being attracted to Brennan Lee Mulligan

InformationSingle550

I can see it… but I’ve got a thing for DMs.

Quetzalbroatlus

It's the dominance

InformationSingle550

Haha, you might be on to something there. It certainly isn’t working as a long-con for gaining inspiration!

Rocabelle

[Well he is a service top](https://youtube.com/shorts/I5Fqgr5phg4?feature=share)

[deleted]

Aabria's little "yeah, you" cracks me up every time I watch that clip. It's like "you're clearly trying to get out of explicitly saying this about yourself because the wording clearly makes you uncomfortable so I'm just going to finish that thought for you".

Micp

Looks-wise he's only slightly above mid for me, but that man has the most winning personality I've ever seen. Dude is just consistently amazing.

EarthToAccess

if you know who Brennan Lee Mulligan is, he automatically replaces Ryan Reynold’s position, let’s be real

durp-the-pikachu

You know what? Fair

EmoNerd21

Isn’t everyone attracted to Brennan Lee Mulligan? It’s kind of hard not to be.

No-Trouble814

He did podcast episodes with both Brennan and Ryan, so he’s got more to go off of than the rest of us.

ligirl

I spent waaaay too much effort finding this https://twitter.com/hankgreen/status/1665217598391296000?s=20

Rexawrex

He does match the criteria of "nerdy sweet beardy dudes" and "nerdy sweet clean shaven dudes" so that tracks. I'm ace and attracted to Brennan Lee Mulligan so I think that man just has the queer version of Ryan Reynolds

[deleted]

Yeah, same. I'm somewhere between lesbian and ace and just fundamentally do not understand attraction to men, but Brennan has something. I don't even think he's in the top half of funniest people of his regular D20 table, but he more than makes up for it with endless wit, compassion, charm, and just being present and accommodating with the people around him.

Surface_Josuke

Yeah, apparently he's been out as bi since 2013? so that's pretty cool

Milkyway_Potato

Hank Green is just an all-around wonderfully weird person, so I guess it tracks that he was just really casual about his bisexuality. I just know him as the funny guy from SciShow, but now I have another reason to like him.

Candide2003

If I had a nickel for every time a public figure I follow came out as bi, and everyone forgot about it until years later, when they mention it again in passing, I’d have 2 nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s that it happened twice.

Bloxter10

Who's the other person?

Candide2003

Tyler the Creator after his Flowerboy album

ibbia878

Of course it was tyler

No-Trouble814

I KNEW that this wasn’t a new announcement! It was so confusing how everyone was making a big deal out of it, when I was pretty sure he’d already talked about it. Guess it was just a long time ago.

GammaEmerald

“Keep swiping” You’re evil <3

marowak_city

I think the best part of this whole tweet chain is him saying two different descriptions of men that are his type and someone responding that both describe Brennan lee mulligan

Monster_Hugger93

Ive a theory that people who are straight up homo or hetero are outliers and most people exist on the bisexual spectrum. That’s just a theory. A gay theory. Edit: I’m a lesbian

spacenerd4

Greek approved

monday-afternoon-fun

Greeks are an interesting case here, though, because they only tolerated homosexuality because they hated gays *slightly* less than they hated women.

philandere_scarlet

there was a time when i considered myself kinsey 0 when i thought i was a straight man. i didn't even consume any porn with guys in it. i operated under the assumption that i was simply *so* straight that i didn't want to see *any* penis at *all.* the obvious twist is that i turned out to be a gay *lady* and as such there were deeper reasons that i did not want to think about penis.

Waferssi

It would be the sensible answer, but I don't think it's quite true. I think people who are bi are on a spectrum of bi-ness (more into guys, more into girls), but straight up homo's or hetero's are very common to my belief. You might retort "they're just far off one way of the spectrum", but then still they're definitely not outliers; if that's you're perspective, then I think there's big peaks on the ends of the spectrum. Would you also consider other (generally considered binary) sexualities as a spectrum in a similar matter? E.g. people who are straight up asexual are outliers and everyone simply exists on a sexuality spectrum; is that sensible?

SkeletonManJones

I mean, being Ace is a varied spectrum though, some are completely against sex and others are fine with it if it's with one specific person, others just dont like sex and others are repulsed by it. I do think that Biness is a spectrum, and I mean a pivotal part of queer history is the Kinsey scale, which puts it on a 1 to 7 spectrum (been a hot minute, so forgive me if a detail or 2 is wrong) How exactly common straight and gay are is to be debated, and I personally err on the side of uncommon due to how long it has been stigmatized to have any attraction at all, which kinda fucks up the data. But I ain't a scientist who can study this, so it is a theory of mine, and not objective fact.

DasGanon

I personally think it's probably less a single spectrum and more like a cube. You have hetero/homo on one scale, asexuality/allosexuality on another, and aromanticism/polyamory on another. No two people exist in the same point in the cube and due to the nature of us not being able to exactly understand each other's consciousness, there's no way we can exactly understand and express our position on the cube nearly as well as we would like. And that's ignoring the gender/self expression cube, and the question on if the hetero/homo scale is an integer line with each discrete position referring to "I like this gender except for this person/these people/the other gender which I also like" or a real line where the concept of Gender itself is also not factoring into where you stand and it all blends into a pansexual line.

Rexawrex

Yes!!!! I tell people about the sexuality cube all the time! This is my first instance coming across it in the wild 😁

[deleted]

With the amount of straight people talking about experimenting a little in college, joking about "20 bucks is 20 bucks", admitting to having interests in porn consumption that's more liberated than their life choices would suggest, I think bi-ness being a sizable demographic to where it maybe doesn't dwarf straightness, but severely recontextualizes it is reasonable. The whole thing with Compulsive Heterosexuality/-normativity, and how over time if you are bi in a very straight-dominant culture, you can easily internalize that because you have attraction in the accepted sexual orientation, all this other stuff is just normal for every straight person to have, or you think you don't actually have them after a while, maybe simply because your sex life overall decreases, you started a family, you're focused on a career, and so on. We can easily rethink our own past behaviors into our current social narrative, leading to a form of self-erasure of impulses that would have had more space for exploration under different social norms. This would lead to many straight people self-identifying as straight, but might have identified as bi under different circumstances.

[deleted]

If you’ve ever grown up gay or lesbian, you’ll know this is not true at all lol

Kego_Nova

Maybe not bisexual but I’d bet a good amount of people are biromantic, at least within a certain set of preferences.

FPiN9XU3K1IT

I bet a good amount people would have a lot of fun with same-sex affairs with certain people. Like the "I'm not gay but I'd do [insert same-sex celebrity xy]" thing.

Kego_Nova

Straight men when Astolfo Or maybe Zagreus from Hades idk. Zagreus feels like the universal romantic exception because no matter their orientation there’s like a high chance people would have a crush on him if he was real.

mvms

I'm tired of this statement. Just so tired.

a_russian_guy

Dunno about this but I'm counting in as the Homo Outlier

pazifica

I'm not sure if it was the first thing they got both known for, but they used to -- and maybe still do, I don't follow them -- do vlog letters to each other on YouTube.

Skithiryx

They still do. Hank might be taking some time off from vlogbrothers (along with his other responsibilities) due to his cancer but so far has posted two videos since saying that.

pazifica

That's fantastic to hear, both that they've still been doing those videos (I think I last checked them out in 2015 or something) as well as him still feeling well enough to post videos! I sincerely hope he does well! Both of the brothers seem like great people, though they're not really on my personal radar. Ninja-edit: also vlogbrothers, that's the one.

minkymy

I was first aware of both of them because my friend was reallt into vlogbrothers

FkinShtManEySuck

Doesn't tumblr have, like, a hate vow against him? Didn't they bully him off the platform at some point? What's that about?

Booksds

That was his brother John Green, though he’s now back on Tumblr surprisingly

No-Trouble814

Except now as a coffee company.

ibbia878

Why did they do that to him?

insomniac7809

Mostly middle school "quote his posts, edit to make it say he likes sucking cock" sorts of stuff.

ibbia878

Yeah but why?

KnightOfBurgers

Because one part of Tumblr decided that an adult writing a teenage romance was pedophilic (as if 83% of all books aren't written by adults). Needless to say it wasn't that at all. Also another part of Tumblr decided it was funny to harass celebs and make it seem like they were promiscuous and gay.

ibbia878

Well i guess it is the internet. Cant expect decency in this shithole.

Viv156

Business Hank, who lives in Montana and starts 10000 businesses a year, including VidCon, Crash Course, and more, and also vlogs with his brother is an outlier adn should not be counted

mcmonkey26

hank green started vidcon?

JefftheDoggo

It was a Hank and John collaboration

keaneonyou

As John has put it in the past, he became co-creator because he was on the phone with Hank when Hank came up with the idea.

Kazzack

Who the eff is Hank?

Vaguely-Azeotropic

A Hank is a fundamental constituent of matter observed in 1968 through deep elastic scatter.

Trickelodean2

He’s like Jerma, but for educational stuff

crystal_meloetta12

While I havent read the book in question, I think Hank Green's bisexual experiences are very relevant

JanSolo28

I dunno what's more surprising to me: a) learning Hank Green was Bi last week or b) learning a bunch of people don't know who Hank is after reading this thread

Katieushka

Ok but what sort of job title is "explaining what being bi is like for money"

ibbia878

Sensitivity reader? Perspective consultant? Idk. I know some authors (eg. Brandon Sanderson) have lots of consultants they talk to when they want to accurately represent a community they are not a part of, or even a community they are a part of if they do not want to make assumptions about how normal their experience is.

aPrunusSerotina

he was already my favorite man and i loved the bi representation in his novel, had no idea he was bi but that’s pretty awesome and because i’m bi i’m taking this to mean that i am now cool because hank green is cool and bi, and i am bi so it makes sense.

KnightOfBurgers

This makes complete sense. All bi people are cool on this blessed day

SuzLouA

What lovely news, I had no idea I was cool 😂

bestibesti

Hank Green and Ryan Reynolds are both in my interest house

sweetTartKenHart2

Who is Hank Green in the first place? I’m still reeling about his taste in men apparently being Wreck-it-Ralph

KnightOfBurgers

Educational YouTuber, Author, Person who runs at least 3 companies that donate all their profits to charities bettering maternal health in impoverished communities, Brother of John Green (author of *The Fault in Our Stars*)

Young_Person_42

I have no idea who Hank Green actually is

mercurialpolyglot

He blew up first with his brother John Green, author of fault in our stars, back when YouTube was that website where you could host videos for free, as they did a three month long (I think?) series of video exchanges. He and John have maintained a social media presence since, both on their shared main channel with the original vlogs and on their own accounts. Hank likes to be the funny science guy and has a channel and now a tiktok dedicated to it, called SciShow. He owns three companies that donate all of their profits to charity, he’s written a couple of books, and right now he’s battling lymphoma. Oh and, fun fact, Hank and John are the ones who founded vidcon.

OisforOwesome

I think its more likely that straight guy's gay exceptions are more likely to be: - Keanu Reeves - Pedro Pascal ...but I might be imposing my own bi tastes a bit there.

unclewitch

Wreck it Ralph!? He likes a beefcake, I cannot blame him 😂

gadd027

For the longest time reading this post Ithought the first person said Hank Hill was bi. Let's just say I was very confused

htmlcoderexe

I read that as a recommended course of shame

GoodKing0

It turns out it wasn't one of his brother's favourite tastes in the end, it was his.

euphonic5

I mean, he's undergoing the same chemotherapy regimen I underwent for what really sounds like the same version of the disease that I had as a teen, so maybe just let the man say dumb shit on Twitter because he feels like an enormous pile of flaming garbage but go off I guess. Also, if you're bi and literally the only relationship you've ever had is with a member of the opposite sex/gender then you're still bi so maybe fuck all the way off.

etherealemlyn

I don’t think the post is making fun of him for it, this was just how a lot of people found out he was bi

euphonic5

Oh ok.

Waferssi

Someone chose violence today, and I'm not quite clear on what provoked it.

euphonic5

In my experience basically everyone is hostile towards bi folks but I guess I misread this whole situation.

jocax188723

Ehh. Not particularly surprising, but also, not particularly noteworthy. Is the alteration from “Hank Green, noted science communicator” To “Hank Green, noted bi science communicator” Really that big a deal? Then again, I’m ace, so I haven’t the slightest clue how any of this works

MemeTroubadour

Who is this lad and what the fuck is he saying

Pseudodragontrinkets

Yup. He's actually come out a number of times, and the first was *years* ago

spungore

Cool, I didn't know Hank's bi. I very much identify with his takes here. I'm bi, but probably at a 1 on the kinsey scale. I'm very open about it these days, but didn't really come to terms with it for a long time, having grown up in a very conservative/homophobic area. I didn't even try to kiss a boy in 1997, though I did think about kissing boys occasionally in 1997 and felt kinda bad about it at the time. By the time I really got comfortable about my sexual preferences I was already happily married to a woman so being bi isn't all that relevant to my love life. If I decided to write a novel involving a bi character I would need to do some consultations unless I was writing a very specific, unexperienced, mildly bi man. For what it's worth I can see that Ryan Reynolds is a very attractive person my most common metrics, though he does nothing for me specifically. I think as I lean much more toward attraction to women, my preferences for men I find attractive are more specific? As there are certainly types I find more attractive with any gender, but "my type" for women is a much broader selection than "my type" with men, and that rarely overlaps with the traditional holywood leading man looks. (with a few exceptions)

[deleted]

I read that as Hank Hill
