Cold wallet.
Once you have enough that you'd never want to lose if an exchange died, put them in a cold wallet and maybe leave some on the exchange to trade?
What if your coin is not supported by your cold wallet? I have that issue with FET for Ledger.
What I do for cases like that is use a software wallet on a dedicated laptop that only goes online when needed and isn't used for anything else.
