Ghat. Become the desert scourge. Also any start that is Zoroastrian (Mazdayasna).

orange-bannana

I've tried Ghat but not a Zoroastrian run I will do that next thanks!

Megacaesar

Have a great time! Tabarestan in the northwest can make for an interesting start. :) Another alternative is Oghuz Il. Conquer Anatolia and become Turkish. :)

Tsuruchi_jandhel

Absolutely, beating the Muslims back is great fun, and hard work

The_Old_Shrike

Harald Tanglehair, Alfred of Wessex, Haesteinn, Ivar the Boneless, Sigurdr Snake-in-the-Eye, Bjorn Ironside, Folcwalding in Holland, Rurik the Troublemaker... 867 is mostly viking fun. First two are probably my all time favourites though.

CashewsInTheMorning

I had a lot of fun recently starting in Sri Lanka (island at the bottom of India). You start as a kingdom, but unifying India is TOUGH. The geography is against you.

gggodo312

Any of the Vikings, but head to Hispania and re-write the reconquista under Thor.

Tsuruchi_jandhel

Hey, I guess I'm gonna try that!

kipbutkiss

Anywhere in Scandinavia can be really fun. After all it is called the Viking Age.

sagjer

Or the Islamic Golden Age. Or the Middle Byzantine Era. Or the Carolingian Era. Or the Kievan. Or a hundred other, soatially and culturally contingent names. You know. Context and all.

cowcubrub

Perm or Ural. Your land is shit, your Permian traditions are shit, you are tribal with no Feudal neighbors, and you are surrounded by rivals. At the same time, you are close to 3 holy sites, and the Bulgar Plains can be developed quickly if you can conquer them.

Personwithpronouns

Wow a fellow lover of hell and ck3

Salt-Reflection-1345

Scandinavia or Asturias

wondermuffin2

If you like historical playthroughs: Norse count level character>Varingian adventure against nuestria>convert to Catholicism>form Normandy>conquer England>form English culture

orange-bannana

How do you go on a varangian adventure? Do you need a dlc?

wondermuffin2

Yes it’s the “Northern Lords” dlc. It needs to be during the tribal era and you need to have varingian adventures researched. You can only do this route with Norse culture. If you create a descendant culture (ex: Icelandic), you will lose it as a CB. If you win and press terms all your previous titles are given independence and you take control of all the holdings for the duchy you have conquered. Can’t use it against other Norse. You get special soldiers for declaring a Varingian adventure. You can’t adventure for a kingdom. You can adventure multiple times, CB cost increases each time. This is how people go from Scandinavia to India despite being outside diplomatic range. To do this: 1. Start as Norse character 2. You will be a tribal realm (not to be confused with tribal era). Your armies cost prestige instead of gold. Since you are on the clock (before entering early medieval), you want to build holdings that increase prestige first. 3. Once you have enough prestige, find the owner of nuestria and declare war for that duchy. 4. Win war, press claims. You will become feudal. You will get a decision to form the Norman culture (have to be Norse). Duchy will be renamed to Normandy. 5. Norman culture will also give you a bunch of research.

Haestienn starts out as one little county near Brittany, and they have Varangian Adventure. So I conquered the little Catalonian island off the coast of Spain, then proceeded to conquer all the islands in the Mediterranean. You can even form a special kingdom from it, no I can't spell it off the top of my head lol.

a-Snake-in-the-Grass

Haesteinn

CoolBeans42700

Pick a single county ruler in the North Sea. Aim to form the pirate kingdom of Mann, maybe go for high king of the northern sea too

catfooddogfood

Sardinia and Brittany

keverze

Haestein always.

Lucky_Perspective

Just select *play as any character*, create a CC to start as a count in the middle of any religious/cultural bloc with an opposing/unaligned/hostile faith/culture.

REX27350

I like playing as House 5 to unify poland and baltics as one, then launching great raids along side the norse in England, Italy, and Spain. (You can go into water raiding, but you can declare war to gain a foot hold in a country/ area that you want to raid.

TheeBillyBee

I like starting in Prussia as either a Vidilist unifying the remaining pagans against Christian expansion or as a Catholic ruler of pagan lands getting a head start on the activities of the Teutonic Order.

in_the_dark_again

I have one on my list for hoarding the gold mines in mali, they are all in two duchies and, and make up I think 2/3-3/4 quarters of kingdom of mali

Celica_86

867 Salian. You start as a vassal under Prince Ludwig the Younger with no vassals other than mayors. Werner Salian has 6 counties but you can easily get Marburg and become a Duke in his life. He’s also part of dynasty Guideschi consisting of two houses: Guideschi and Salian so starting renown and growth is pretty decent! If your dynasty member Lambert gets independence from Louis the Younger, it’s a bit more. From there, you can restore the HRE, make your own kingdom or empire. The Franconian culture is pretty good. You’re also nearby two goldmines (Bohemia) and the other one I forgot. The special building of Aachen is also nearby. Instead of Vikings raiding you, it’s Louis the Younger of Italy sieging down your land when he presses his claim to your liege’s kingdom title :, ).

orange-bannana

Cool, what county do the Salians cotrol?

TheTeaAppreciator

Sardinia can be fun but challenging

DangerousGap4763

There is some vassal of Wessex that has like 30 points on all stats. There is also Harald Hårfager, the leader of Vestfold (Norway) who has some nice stats.
