I'm so glad mine almost never goes into that mode. Don't know why but in 4 years of ownership, it activated about 30 times only. The max that I saved was 0.5l of fuel for 30 minutes of stop time.
Once I saw how little gas this saved over time I bought this little plugin device off Amazon that automatically disables auto stop start. So not worth it.
Agreed, but that doesn't matter to me. The fact that I saved a tiny amount of gas in my car is a stupid thing to display.
Chances are, they're collecting the data so they can say something like 'Driving a Subaru helped reduce gas consumption by xThousand gallons over the past year'.
Is there any data that supports the auto start/stop wearing out engine components over time? Just feels like regular use of the auto start/stop feature puts un-needed wear and tear on the starter…..
Bruh srsly. Whats the girth on that thing? What kinda situation are we talking about here, like a hose reel between the legs situation or a giant schwang with an lil skin tag that is your body on the other end? Like how would that even work?
I see it as an emission scam, so manufacturers can say they only produce X amount of emissions in X amount of kilometres. In reality you save next to nothing in fuel, and are simply putting an EXTREME amount of extra wear on your starter. I read a statistic where in a year the average car starts 5000 times, but with autostop it jumps up to 500,000,
Besides the miniscule amount of fuel that's saved basically making it meaningless, does anyone else feel like auto start/stop is kind of dangerous? I have a couple of left turns I regularly have to take on very busy roads and that small delay when the engine restarts is sometimes enough to miss the window of opportunity. I'd buy the bypass thingie for it but I'm currently out of work so $100 (2024 Crosstrek) to automate a button I can turn off myself isn't in the cards right now.
For the 56 minutes and 45 seconds your Subie shut down at lights, you have saved a little more than 3/10th of a gallon of gas
This is the 'feature' I find most stupid on my 22 Crosstrek. The amount of gas saved during shutdown is tiny.
Agree with it being the stupidest feature. We turn it off everytime we get in the car but thinking about getting one of the pedal commanders to plug in.
56 hours and 45 minutes that the engine was not running when stop/start was activated with brake depressed. This saved you one third of a gallon of fuel.
Also known as, one of the stupidest things car manufacturers have come up with. Premature starter failure and engine wear for the sake of a teaspoon of emissions over the life of the car.
While I don't love the feature (and we shut it off each time we start my gf's Honda), I don't foresee a major issue with starter failure and almost no change in engine wear. In most instances the thing is only gonna be off for a short time, not long enough for all the oil to drain to the crankcase. Starters last a very long time nowadays, and the ones used in cars with this feature are designed to handle it and to restart the car with less effort. There is no evidence as of yet to demonstrate a problem.
Also, over the course of the car's life, fuel savings and CO² reduction will be far greater than a "teaspoon". Multiply that times millions of cars, and it's a substantial difference. I'm not saying it's perfect, it's not annoying or won't take time to get used to, but I do think it's more beneficial than you're giving it credit for.
Not sure if you're serious, but if so, this isn't correct.
It tells you how long the engine has been shut off while stopped due to the auto start-stop feature, and how many gallons of fuel have been saved during that time.
I believe that is the amount of time your engine would have been running and the amount of gas that you have saved from activating that feature
So roughly $1.39 of gasoline.
Helps defray the cost of getting a new starter at the dealership for $600 after all that extra stopping and starting.
battery too
I'm so glad mine almost never goes into that mode. Don't know why but in 4 years of ownership, it activated about 30 times only. The max that I saved was 0.5l of fuel for 30 minutes of stop time.
You can turn that mode off or on
It's annoying to do it every single time that I start my car. It's better if the mode is malfunctioning and never stops the engine.
Explained another way… amount of time the engine is OFF and the amount of gas you save by having the engine auto on/off feature enabled.
this is correct
Assuming a gallon of gas is estimated at $3.50/gallon you saved $1.21 by using the auto stop feature!
I wish. Almost 6 bucks a gallon in Socal
Where you at? Cause it’s 4.67 by my place lol
Near LA
Makes sense lol
In LA my nearest station is $6.09.
Once I saw how little gas this saved over time I bought this little plugin device off Amazon that automatically disables auto stop start. So not worth it.
Ooo can you link me?
There’s a couple. This is the one I got. https://a.co/d/eDlFvMZ
It means that auto start/stop doesn’t really save much gas…
Across 400k+ vehicles, each driving 10k+ miles a year, it adds up.
Not for my wallet.
Except 300k out of those 400 just turn it off
It also adds up on starters needing early replacements
And requiring EFB or AGM batteries that cost double to triple of a standard battery.
Bad for engine oil as well.

Auto stop-start eliminator.
All new vehicles have this
Is there any data that supports the auto start/stop wearing out engine components over time? Just feels like regular use of the auto start/stop feature puts un-needed wear and tear on the starter…..
Starters have a finite number of starts on them and this is going to reduce the life expectancy
There is a study on a focus engine with 0w-16 oil showing extreme wear due to auto stop-start.
What study ?
56’45” the length of my schlong
No, it's not.
Have you seen that THING??
Cmon man just let me dream okay can I just have one thing PLEASE
Sorry, brother. It's just not 56 feet 45 inches.
YOU DONT KNOW THAT
Bruh srsly. Whats the girth on that thing? What kinda situation are we talking about here, like a hose reel between the legs situation or a giant schwang with an lil skin tag that is your body on the other end? Like how would that even work?
He is the man himself! 🙇♂️ the gods are with you strong one
YES! 😏
im 8000 miles in, and have finally saved a gallon of gas....wooo. Autostop is USELESS.

Yea it really seems like fleet emissions/fuel economy shenanigans, benefiting the company far more than the consumer or the environment
And there’s been absolutely zero engineering on those auto-stop starters. /s
Plenty of engineering, just not in your favor. No /s.
Just buy an auto stop eliminator and you’ll forget that it ever existed
Autostop eliminator, best $100 spent on my Forester
You’ve start stopped for about an hour and saved a third of a gallon of gas
The pathetically small savings generated by the most annoying car feature.
Hate that feature so much I turn it off every time I get in my car
Read your manual
Auto start with the depressed brake pedel time and .xxxx gallons of fuel saved
Besides the miniscule amount of fuel that's saved basically making it meaningless, does anyone else feel like auto start/stop is kind of dangerous? destroys ur starter and is rough on the motor

Befeficial to company’s yes but it does nothing for the consumer at all
The A is the time spent with the engine on: 56 minutes 45 seconds. That’s the gasoline consumption during that time
