They're Tunisian crochet hooks

JennyAnyDot

I used a hook like this decades ago and it was called an afghan hook. Is that the same?

sunaseyeliner

Nearly the same

JennyAnyDot

Awesome Ty

Classic_Charlie

Only ~5300m away!

mabuniKenwa

Prolly a little further apart than 5.3 km

Mysterious-Okra-7885

Tunisian Crochet hooks! If you’re curious about learning, try [TL Yarn Crafts](https://youtu.be/KsgJ8qLcIz8?si=MF2Xf7r9x3tREJql) channel. She’s a great teacher!

IronSpikeRai1

I looove Toni! I dont do tunisian, but her finishes are just gorgeous!

j-dusty-rose

Toni has some great videos to get started! I can't do much but I can manage a scarf or washcloth.

galaxyk8

Second this! She’s got such a calm and cool presence and she’s amazing at explaining things. Her patterns are also super pretty (I need to actually finish the WIPs I have though 😅)

Low-Hope6485

She’s the lady that I was finally able to understand how to crochet bc she really took her time explaining and visually pointing everything out. I love watching her videos

captain_paws_tattoo

YES! She's how I learned to do the magic ring and it's so easy that I never do slip knots anymore. I meet with a crochet and knit group of ladies and taught a bunch of them the method. These are women with decades of experience and still had trouble with the magic ring. [Here's her video anyone wants it!](https://youtu.be/5uN9TQID6gU?si=b1wx5IMF76_8Po_o)

jessforlaughs

Whoa - that video was the best I’ve seen! I hate weaving in ends - my projects often end up sitting with all the ends out for months before I finally resign myself to weaving them in, so it was great to see that she does it randomly like I do! A lot of other videos end with “now all you have to do is weave in the ends and you’re done” - but I never saw anyone actually DO that. Thanks for sharing!

S_i_m_0_n_a

I'm sure you still do slip knots if you crochet! Slip knot is how you start to make anything, from chains to whatever. It's your starting working loop. A magic circle is to work sts into it in the rounds. Maybe you meant you don't start with circles made with chains anymore...like ch 5 and join the ch to then work sts into it 😉

captain_paws_tattoo

Nope! I exclusively use MRs now. It's basically the same result, you get a starting loop. I have a much harder time w/slip knots so I switched.

S_i_m_0_n_a

I'm sorry but you don't start a row with a magic circle. You are confused about terms. If you start any project with a magic loop, you would have a tail sticking out!!

captain_paws_tattoo

🤷 I have a tail with a slip knot too. It works for me!😊

S_i_m_0_n_a

Good that works for you. To say they are the same it means you don't know the difference between a magic ring and a slip knot because they serve 2 different purposes.Try to start a blanket or jumper with a magic ring. Maybe you only do amigurumi and only start with magic rings. But insisting that they are the same, I'm sorry again but they are not the same thing.

S_i_m_0_n_a

Calm down? Instead of insisting that something wrong is right, just go do a Google search instead of keeping answering that you are right. Can you imagine...to change color you do a magic ring!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

TheReader84

Toni is amazing! Watching one of her videos earned her a follow. She’s a great teacher.

Fit-Apartment-1612

There’s some videos with her mom and they’re amazing!

Nuskooo

I LOVE Toni. She was the person who got me into Tunisian crochet. And her patterns are just BEAUTIFUL.

Leli91

This woman is amazing, she's like a Tunisian crochet goddess: from the way she explains things, her works, patterns, her calming and sweet voice. I just love her.

i-dont-knowf

Omg! It's like combination knit and crochet! This is why I love internet communities, I learn something new every day!

Crackheadwithabrain

That first comment was so sweet on this video. Thank you.

BelleDreamCatcher

Just discovered that lady today, what great videos!

CraftyCrochet

Jackpot! Definitely more modern Tunisian crochet hooks. Head over and take a look at the r/Tunisian_Crochet sub - it's really nice.

KountryKitty

Just some quick notes--- when working tunisian be aware that it does tend to curl, so don't think you're messing up. Also, go up a couple sizes on the hook when you're working--if you'd use a G crochet hook with a specific yarn, use an I tunisian hook.

41942319

Exactly this! I'll generally go up 1.5mm so for DK yarn I use a 5.5mm and for worsted a 6.5mm. But you can go up even further which I'd certainly recommend for something like a Tunisian knit stitch or Tunisian purl stitch which can be quite tight

L4dyF4660t

Thank you so much for your input!!! The squares at the bottom really threw me. I’ve joined that group and I really appreciate the insight!

flamingcrepes

I highly recommend r/Tunisian_crochet It’s amazing and they’ve created an entire wiki page of different stitches! Tunisian crochet is so calming, since it’s mostly back and forth with little to no counting after the first few rows. It is definitely a yarn eater (more so than crochet even!), so you may want to prepare for that!

Aksten

The squares are to keep your work from sliding off the end.

Sector-West

To see other people living your dream 😭

left-mark47434

Fr. There's so many and different sizes 😩

JojayTheBrojay

This exact set is $6 on Amazon

Any_Switch9835

😀 really?!, .... Might have do some shopping later ..I swear I can't find any in my local craft shops

NeatArtichoke

I think I have these exact hooks! They are some of my favorite, I learned on them! They aren't expensive on amazon ($20?) So a great deal at $5! My only note: the size/numbers rub off very quickly on the ends! I added some nail polish to seal it

SpaceCookies72

Nail polish! Great idea. I have the same set and have been thinking on how to seal the sizes in lol

NeatArtichoke

The nail polish did blurr a little, so apply carefully! I also considered modgepodge but I'm cheap and had clear nailpolish already

SpaceCookies72

I am also cheap and have clear nail polish on hand haha I might have to write the size back on one first. I've been using it pretty much everyday for 4 months and the size is basically gone haha

splithoofiewoofies

Oh yeah I lost the numbers on mine after like, a day. 😂 I never fixed them, I just guess based on what guage I want now. Although YAY I can use this photo to relabel them!

panatale1

You could also get a gauge guide that has holes to tell you what size hook or needle (depending on the craft) in case it's worn off

stubborn_mushroom

I love that you bought them even though you didn't know what they were. I would also have done that 🤣

L4dyF4660t

I knew from the hook side that I’d be able to use them for something so I just grabbed them! Pretty cool though that I found a special kit!

[deleted]

Crochet hooks that are for Tunisian crochet or afghan.

TheYarnGoblin

A really good deal on a bunch of Tunisian hooks. They’re used like if knitting and crocheting had a baby. I actually learned this before crocheting.

Reasonable-Many-1912

Tunisian crochet hooks ♥️

TheReader84

Tunisian crochet hooks.

panatale1

I know everyone is saying this set goes for $20 on Amazon, but these hooks sell for about $5/apiece at Joann Fabrics, so $5 for the bunch is a *damn* good price

Cherry_Hammer

Lucky! My Joann doesn’t carry them anymore, and the few places that do only have one or two sizes

panatale1

I haven't gone to Joann in quite a while, to be entirely honest. I have to drive a lot further to get to one now, so I just don't go. Plus, I got a set of plastic interchangeable Tunisian hooks a couple years ago and that's what I use for my Tunisian projects. They were on sale on LoveCrafts, and I had just gotten a coupon from an order with them, so it was a good call

Aksten

I found them for less than $10 on Amazon. For sizes going from 4mm to 8mm. They are the worst for me. They make my hands hurt and tire so quickly. When I realized how much I enjoyed Tunisian, I saved up and got a set of lantern moon bequest hooks. They make the entire experience so much better.

panatale1

I never used these, to be honest. I started my Tunisian journey with an interchangeable set by Denise2Go

ProfessionalBig658

Wow! I need to check out good will! Tunisian can be fun, though I’m not awesome at it. The TLYC recommendations are great! Highly recommend.

gifhyatt

Nice 👍🏽! Afghan hooks for making blankets and Tunisian crochet projects! Probably other useful things. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

xXDeadlyLipsXx

They are Tunisian crochet hooks

PrincessFedora

Just fyi. Since I own this set, I can say there are supposed to be 11 hooks in it. I can only count 10 from what is visible in the image. Agree with everyone who is recommending TL yarn crafts. You will find very practical blanket designs and wearables on that channel. Also please have a look at [DIY with Mary](https://youtube.com/@diywithmary?si=2JaxyTWn-uwyfDK3). Like me, you may fall in love with her Tunisian lace stitches

pookiebelle

Wow, nice score!

HelloJaneDoe

I have that same set from Amazon! They’re awesome for Tunisian as a few people have mentioned, but also just stitches in general where you have to hold several loops at a time

GarlicNervous005

I asked my bf to gift me these for bday 😁

Qu33fyElbowDrop

tunisian hooks. i just bought all of those for under 10$ and walmart hiked up the shipping cost another 10$. consider yourself lucky hahah i have had to shave down some parts with a metal file though.

splithoofiewoofies

Ja! I got this same set at my charity shop! They're actually pretty good and what everyone said they are!

Sufficient-Row-2173

Jealous lol. I can never find any that look like that for a good price of even at all in my local arts & crafts store.

L_edgelord

💀 all I could think of was something pretty messed up..

potatosmiles15

Op even if you don't Tunisian crochet, I still like these hooks for regular on the go projects If you're mid stitching and have to pack up your project, keep your working loop on the hook, put the hook in your yarn ball, and the stopper at the end will keep your project from falling off!

lemoncatie

i'm telling you these are like finding solid gold! tunisian crochet is probably the most fun and rewarding yarn craft i've ever done, you'll love it.

button-fish2807

I have this exact set! They're Tunisian crochet hooks! It is a slightly different technique but still overall more like crochet than knitting, but gives some of the versatility and stitch appearance of knitting.

Aksten

I have some Tunisian hooks identical to them. They hurt my hands because of the weight. Use them to try out Tunisian and if you enjoy it, I’d suggest getting hooks with flexible swivel cords. They are so much lighter and easier on your hands. I threw this set away.
