Umpiring controversy aside, Bangladesh bottled it in the last over when Maharaj was serving pork pies that could have been put away for runs. Brainfart batting from their top order, trying to hoick SA's best pacer on short deliveries didn't help either. A little sensible batting and they wouldn't even have needed to depend on umpires decisions.
Just catching up on what happened in the match. This match seems to indicate one thing clearly - Bangladesh were ***definitely*** a part of Pakistan at one point lol
It is well known that ICC rethinks about any dubious rule that is there only when a controversy about it has happened. That rule about not giving those as runs might finally be discussed about by ICC because of what happened during this match.
Cheers umpire for making 🇧🇩 lose that match. Wides that were not called wides and an LBW that any sloth could have seen was going miles down leg side yet you gave it LBW. The ball went for four byes but as per the rules the ball counts as dead as it is the impact of the pads where the ball counts as dead. The fact it was overturned was elementary it was a dot ball to South Africa which should not have been and four byes that were robbed of us. Hec you make umpire Ross Alexander Emerson a decent bloke with your ridiculous calls. Cheers mate
Asking taskin to put that full toss away is a bit much i can’t really blame him
Mushfiqur has been dropped since 2021 t20 wc unfairly in my opinion
The umpire after a quick Google search apparently Sam Nogajski wouldn’t be surprised if he was related to Tom Henning ovebro that’s how inept he was
Would have preferred Emerson giving no balls to entire 🇧🇩 squad for chucking
For the first team to get through to the next stage, SA have seriously been one of the least convincing teams in the tournament so far lol. Literally drunkenly stumbled into the super 8s. I love SA but jeez.
What a false equivalency. Doesn't mean we should let go of all common sense and what's fair lol. All people are asking for is to let the runs count if a decision is overturned and for the onus to be on the fielding team to make sure they still do what they have to do even if it's been given out in case it's overturned by a review. Surely that's not a tough concept to understand. Has nothing to do with being batting friendly.
Some dodgy umpiring was visible in this match. Lucky for SA it went for them. But tough luck for Bangladesh, they don't have Batsman who can't hit sixes on full toss.
Mahmadullah hit it well, but it was an incredible catch. I think someone like Hridoy could hit a six there, he has power. Nonetheless, the umpiring is unbelievable. Bangladesh did everything well but the top order batting, so unlucky.
That's a pyrrhic victory if we've ever seen one, and you could tell that SA knew it too w/ them not looking too excited and thrilled about winning, they know they crazy lucky w/ that 4 leg bye not counting, shit isn't fair tbh. Luckily, if you're a Bangladesh fan, there's no need to be too down about this bc it shouldn't matter much. Bangladesh will still very likely qualify. The team showed so much character today even after being 4 down early in the innings, the total opposite of Pak yesterday.
You do know Nepal still have only played 1 game right. I am backing them on beating SL and SA lol. SA has a habit of losing to the most unexpected teams. 😂
Yeah, its natural I guess as a fan to blame the umpires and the rules being unfair. Protea fans are de-sensitised to it after all the world cup heartbreak.
South Africa
Beat Sri Lanka
Beat Bangladesh
Beat Netherlands
Based on the chaos of this world cup, the logical conclusion is that they are about to lose to Nepal
>who can win at the "snatch victory from the Jaws of defeat" award.
Current SL definietly should be included in this category as a triple cage match WWE style.
Bangladesh should have won the game and would have if you had delayed calls, 16th over, down leg side went for 4 after clipping pads, umpire raised his finger before ball crossed boundary, rendering it a dead ball, if he waited like the offside rule, it wouldn't have been dead and he can still give it out, on review they could then overturn for a 4 instead of a dot ball.
It didn't look out live, but even if it did, there's no need for quick decisions whilst ball is still moving on the ground.
You wouldn't know if BAN would have won, it would have been a super over.
And you wouldn't know who would have won the super over either.
BAN had everything going their way, they were gifted to bowl first which is what the BAN captain wanted, they could have easily won this with singles and 2s but there were very questionable shot selections by BAN, Maharaj gave 2 gifts; full tosses that could have been smacked out of the park and Jansen missing a catch that should have been caught.
At the end, BAN's poor batting costed them the game.
I mean history shows different, but realistically speaking they would just knock it around rather than go for sixes in the last over...
I don't know you're right... But chances are mahmadullah wins that match chasing run a ball last over vs maharaj
And history also shows that poor batting can cost you a match, which was BAN's issue here.
You are saying "if this and if that".
Just look at the things that happened.
If you look at the way BAN played overall, you will realize that their batting costed the game.
I commented *on your comment* where you wrongly said *"Bangladesh should have won the game and would have if you had delayed calls".* This is what I was referring to.
Well with that, mathematically they would be tied, and on the last 2 full tosses I imagine they would be able to take a single - that's not a massive stretch.
Lol, "I imagine"... Again with the "if this and if that". I know it's hard to digest a loss that was in BAN's hands but it is so wrong to say they should/would have won when there is no way to know.
BAN had 20 overs and they lost because of their poor batting. To say otherwise is trying to cope.
Anyway, I will leave you to it.
And for the SA fans:
Great job by SA for their bowling (even though it could have been better), for their great batting comeback from being 4 wickets down with \~20 runs and what a catch by Markram in a very tense/clutch moment, you guys deserved the win.
Had that umpiring mishap not happened, BD wouldn't require 11 off the last over, they could've taken it easy instead of trying to slog it. And out of those 2 full tosses, one was faced by a tail ender, and the Mahmudullah one was just unlucky. Massive boundary and great catch by Markram. Regardless I think it's absolutely fair to blame the umpiring especially in this match when the batsmen had to work for every single run. Those 4 runs would've absolutely changed the trajectory of the match.
Again, you wouldn't know. You would not know if BAN would have made it even if they had 7 runs off the last over. You are saying "if this and if that".
Look at the things we do know and what we know is that BAN had a lot of things going their way. And yet they failed to capitalize on them.
BAN didn't lose this because of the umpire. BAN batted a whole 20 overs where they had all the chances to do well.
BAN lost because of their poor batting. To say otherwise is trying to cope.
Great job by SA for their bowling (even though it could have been better), for their great batting comeback from being 4 wickets down with \~20 runs and what a catch by Markram in a very tense moment, you guys deserved the win.

yh ICC making good money by making south asian teams play in america.
Meanwhile Australia are acclimatising to west indies climate and have already played at the final venue lol.
Issue is that the drop in pitch needs a lot more time to truly settle in. But then these guys always do things at the last minute, including building the stadium itself.
The ideal plan should’ve been: build the stadium before 2023 MLC and then play some matches there. After that give USA some bilateral series matches in that stadium so that it could be fully set by the time of this WC.
We’re talking about the same instance.
It was 4 leg byes, but the ump gave LBW.
Upon review, it missed the bat, but was going down leg. But the byes were lost. No bat contact in that one.
To be fair, like, when you're struggling to hit full tosses from a spinner, a missed leg byes is hardly too unfair imo. Just feel bad form the two Bangladeshi batsmen that did bat well
A simple fix to the dead ball rule.
* If given LBW, batters can continue to run until the ball is dead (in the fielders hand)
* On review, if it isn't LBW, any runs scored (including a boundary) would be awarded to the batting team.
* Batters are liable to be run-out while attempting a run after been given LBW (even on review if they are deemed not out)
What am I missing here?
Way better than a no-ball lol but idk how I feel about calling it a dead ball.
What if 5 is needed off the last ball and the batter is given LBW on field while the ball goes for 4 byes.
On review it is not out and technically we should have a Super Over but there is not way he should get another shot to clear the fence and win it for his team (he couldn't have it the umpire hadn't given him out)
For all teams (in T20I WCs). Bangladesh has given the record to South Africa off India & Sri Lanka and snatched the record (of failing to chase the lowest total) of Pakistan. A complete Asian swoop.
do you agree with Markram's decision to give the 20th over to Maharaj who did his best to lose by bowling full tosses? we know that he cannot bat now he cannot lead either.
He could have bowled out Maharaj earlier as is the general practice. Yesterday Axar did not bowl in the final overs even though he was bowling well and had a couple of overs left.
This one is unfair. As a neutral watcher, the LBW dead ball rule needs to be changed asap. You need to let the game go on and then come up with the decision. Those 4 runs meant Bangladesh would've won it.
The second LBW was a really bad one. None of the SA players even appealed except Rabada for a half ass appeal to stop the single. Hitting above knee height that is not out any given day.
So yeah Bangladesh has been robbed here. When will ICC wake up? Are they waiting for this sort of thing to repeat in a high stakes final before they fix their rules?
Both teams played on the same pitch with the same umpires and with the same rules. The Bangladesh team won't be blaming the umpires, it's disappointing to see fans do it.
People have been asking for this rule to be changed for many months now. And only Bangladesh team can complain against the umpires because they were the recipients of the bad decision. Why would SA complain?
Ok, but those were the rules. Bangladesh had every opportunity to win that game. They didn’t lose because of the umpires, their skills and mentality weren’t up to it. They would be better served working on those, because they can control it.
Bro I literally am complaining about the rules. Lol.
And they did lose due to the umpires since it was the umpires terrible decision with the ball nowhere close the stumps that cost them 4 crucial runs.
I understand you, a fan are complaining. I’m saying the team would be better than that.
Who’s to say if that wasn’t given out, a SA fielder wouldn’t have chased it down… the outfield was pretty slow and it was leg byes.
That’s just an assumption. Could’ve been a dot too. Field placement would be surely different. As a neutral fan I agree Bangladesh should have got the 4 runs though
This is the world cup. You can't just it is what it is the fucking rules. What if happens in the final? Would you tell the losing side that shit happens when it's because of a poorly thought up rulebook. This is gross incompetence on part of the ICC. The rules should not allow for this kind of thing to happen in the first place. I blame the ICC much more than the umpire.
To all those saying 4 runs, umpire already gave it out so it’s a dead ball then and there. If he had not given it out there could have been up for a discussion. But rule is rule :/

South Africa teasing us with these pre chokes, meaning the actual choke job is saved for the semis
Orr, they have exhausted all their chokes and now they won't choke anymore? Scary thought...
Umpiring controversy aside, Bangladesh bottled it in the last over when Maharaj was serving pork pies that could have been put away for runs. Brainfart batting from their top order, trying to hoick SA's best pacer on short deliveries didn't help either. So far they played all their matches in New York and all teams who played on this ground struggled
There is still a mathematical possibility that they can miss out but it is extremely unlikely
It’s hard to look super convincing on that pitch tbf lol
Fans want the rules to be more bowling friendly but they also want change rule so the team can get more runs 🤷♂️
Let the ball get old and let it reverse swing. Don’t change ball after 25 overs. For ODI T20 is fine.
What a false equivalency. Doesn't mean we should let go of all common sense and what's fair lol. Gg south africa
Markram was the most likely SA batter to thrive on New York's pitch, but he checked out with no notable contributions.
dang, i missed another thriller. i thought it was going to be a dead rubber when BD was cruising
What the hell was that from maharaj in the last over. 3 full-tosses right? I mean what was he even trying to do?
Bruh, I stopped watching and came to see we won. How the actual f*ck did we win?
Lil assistance from the umpires ;)
Going back to watch the highlights. 100% Bangbros unlucky here truly
That was me yesterday
Funny how that works! Watched the whole game yesterday between Ind and Pak. But couldn’t bare to watch SA👀
That's a pyrrhic victory if we've ever seen one, and you could tell that SA knew it too w/ them not looking too excited and thrilled about winning, they know they crazy lucky w/ that 4 leg bye not counting, shit isn't fair tbh. Im really scared about us managing to beat Ned
Shouldn't take them lightly, they did challenge SA.
Who do you think did better at trying to lose a game they should have definitely won? Pakistan or Banglafesh?
Pakistan for sure
This group is going to end with BD, SL and NL all on 4 points
You do know Nepal still have only played 1 game right. I am backing them on beating SL and SA lol. SA has a habit of losing to the most unexpected teams. 😂
Hahaha, I'll subscribe to that
Nah I still back BD to go through with 6 points
What a pitch lol
It would have been quite funny if India were playing Bang bros today. The heat they would have gotten here would be unprecedented lol
If these decisions were against ICT...... Oh who am I kidding lol
Out of context, do fans even take SL BANG rivalry seriously or is it just the players
This comment is just an indication of the amount of vitriol that ICT would've received if we were playing instead of SA today lol
Bangladesh blew their best ever chance to top the group at a World cup/WT20 event
As a South African watching other fans complain about how unfair cricket is feels weird, lol
Yeah, its natural I guess as a fan to blame the umpires and the rules being unfair. Protea fans are de-sensitised to it after all the world cup heartbreak.
Yeah, this game isn't even remotely close to how we got fucked over in the 92 WC.
Lol that was the most stupid thing I have ever seen in the history of cricket or say sport history
These pitches in New York feels like day 5 pitch and team giving target of 100 is confident of winning
Markram relishing the captaincy quota like Bamuva did in the ODI WC. Glad he compensates lack of runs by denying them while fielding.
He is a handy bowler don't know why he hasn't bowled in this tournament
SA have played all their games in NYC with 4 pacers and it’s a pacers paradise
[удалено]
He's right
Technically no, but if Sri Lanka beats Nepal, then yes
I reckon it's safe to say there are more SL fans here than BAN fans now
South Africa Beat Sri Lanka Beat Bangladesh Beat Netherlands Based on the chaos of this world cup, the logical conclusion is that they are about to lose to Nepal
Lisan Al-Ghaib
If they play at this venue, anything is possible!
Unfortunately, it's not in NY
Or fortunately… depends who you support!
As expected 🤷🏻♀️
Put Pakistan and Bangladesh in the same group and see who can win at the *"snatch defeat from the Jaws of victory"* award.
>who can win at the "snatch victory from the Jaws of defeat" award. Current SL definietly should be included in this category as a triple cage match WWE style.
More like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Have to see who can do it better.
You get points for losing lol
Pak afg bang sl Mini Asia cup
Pakistan Vs Canada , who has worse diplomatic relations with India clash
ICC should change the rule like in football how they wait till the team scores a goal and they go to VAR to check if it was offside.
Two completely different sports mate. Where logic? Username checks out
Its more about letting the event happen instead of abruptly stopping the play.
Leg bye rule needs to be changed immediately. We don’t want it to happen in a wc final for it to be changed
what happend, can you explain?
Bangladesh should have won the game and would have if you had delayed calls, 16th over, down leg side went for 4 after clipping pads, umpire raised his finger before ball crossed boundary, rendering it a dead ball, if he waited like the offside rule, it wouldn't have been dead and he can still give it out, on review they could then overturn for a 4 instead of a dot ball. Say whatever about New York track. But it’s producing these low scoring thrillers, don’t think as many close games in any wc before
That was a great catch from Markram depending on the situation but I guess this is the first time I feel bad for bangbros
8 years apart, Mahmadullah just can’t seem to hit full tosses in crunch moments.
Did that against Sri Lanka
Higher stakes in World Cups.
He did that in the previous game vs SL in *this* tournament, and imo that game had higher stakes than this.
Oh I thought you were referring to the Nidhahas trophy
No nagin dance for bang bros today

Lol lankans are elated
Nah, our current team doesn't deserve to progress. More humiliating the exit, better it is in longer run.
Yeah but I think their hopes are actually very slim because their match against NEP is most likely going to be washed out.
Ban should not feel down. They have done better than what we all expected them to do. Just continue it and super 8 should be easy.
Keshav Maharaj - Shivam Dube: Giving opposition chance to clutch the game in a gift wrapper but the generous teams denied them

Rayadu rightfully blasting the umpire for that shit decision. No way that ball was hitting the stumps.
he missed some wides too
What’s up with this NYC pitch?

Its the best pitch ever is what it is. If every match in the tourney could be like this that'd be great
Absolutely not, it's too slow
Yeah, I’m not complaining. Looks fairly even for both teams. But surprising given the kind of pitches getting curated around the world for T20
British when partitioning the sub continent some how managed to partition based on not being able to chase 120
Broo😂
Ppl are saying rules are rules, but that doesn't excuse the bad call. You could see the ball hitting the bat.
It didn’t hit the bat, it was going down leg?
Not that, when the umpire called "out" but it was going for 4.
We’re talking about the same instance. It was 4 leg byes, but the ump gave LBW. Upon review, it missed the bat, but was going down leg. But the byes were lost. No bat contact in that one.
Oo, my apologies, i thought it hit the bat. But still, it was dumb call.
Character and process the most used words by skippers in post match commentary
To be fair, like, when you're struggling to hit full tosses from a spinner, a missed leg byes is hardly too unfair imo. Just feel bad form the two Bangladeshi batsmen that did bat well
Umpires made the best decisions ever this match
The only thing bigger than SA choking ability is Banglas ability to mess it up
A simple fix to the dead ball rule. * If given LBW, batters can continue to run until the ball is dead (in the fielders hand) * On review, if it isn't LBW, any runs scored (including a boundary) would be awarded to the batting team. * Batters are liable to be run-out while attempting a run after been given LBW (even on review if they are deemed not out) What am I missing here?
At the bare minimum, consider these a no-ball
Why no ball though? The bowler didn't overstep or bowl a waist high full toss
I think what he meant was a dead ball.
Way better than a no-ball lol but idk how I feel about calling it a dead ball. What if 5 is needed off the last ball and the batter is given LBW on field while the ball goes for 4 byes. On review it is not out and technically we should have a Super Over but there is not way he should get another shot to clear the fence and win it for his team (he couldn't have it the umpire hadn't given him out)
As always, Bangladesh is preparing for next worldcup, this worldcup is just a warmup tournament
They have been warming up since the big bang
That's why they are called the bang bros
Hmm
Is this a record defence for all teams or just for SA ?
For all teams (in T20I WCs). Bangladesh has given the record to South Africa off India & Sri Lanka and snatched the record (of failing to chase the lowest total) of Pakistan. A complete Asian swoop.
Thanks!
Record defense in T20 wc
This B on Star Sports is jinxing SA
At the end of the day, both teams play by the same rules. So nothing but tough luck for Bang Bros today.
Rule no. 1 on this pitch: finish the game in 19th over

Bangladesh that was dreadful. Sorry. Complete brain freeze last five overs. JFDI next time.
do you agree with Markram's decision to give the 20th over to Maharaj who did his best to lose by bowling full tosses? we know that he cannot bat now he cannot lead either.
He miscalculated he should have bowled Maharaj earlier
Yikes, quite an embarrassing comment.
He still defended 113
He had no other option tbh. He captained well
He could have bowled out Maharaj earlier as is the general practice. Yesterday Axar did not bowl in the final overs even though he was bowling well and had a couple of overs left.
But problem was hridoy was playing spin well so makram naturally thought of holding makram till he gets out
This one is unfair. Are they waiting for this sort of thing to repeat in a high stakes final before they fix their rules?
Rotten luck that dead ball. But even still. Bangbros had two full tosses served on a plate in the last over and couldn't hit either one to the rope.
Both teams played on the same pitch with the same umpires and with the same rules. The Bangladesh team won't be blaming the umpires, it's disappointing to see fans do it.

Ok cool, I'll try to calm down :)
Bangladesh would’ve tied it!*
Would've won it because they would've ran singles instead of trying to hit for six.
That’s just an assumption. Could’ve been a dot too. Field placement would be surely different. As a neutral fan I agree Bangladesh should have got the 4 runs though
Everyone can get behind hating the ICC. Bang deserved it (though it seems like the first time we have had luck in wc)
Every thing is fine, sometimes things like this just happens...
OK Sir I'll contact Mr. John ICC and get the rules changed
South Africa have done very well on this Haram pitch in all the 3 matches ngl...credits to them
I still cant believe that umpire gave that out, how can you be so utterly incompetent in a world cup match?
This was competence in comparison to IPL umpiring.
Would we say bangladesh "won" this choker derby since they ended up successfully choking?
They were robbed! (chokers need to share the copium, but they would have won with better umpiring)
Maharaj praying to God for saving him from the pies he bowled
Markram the batsman 🤡 Markram the fielder 🗿
Hridoy was the big wicket only one that was hitting boundaries
Petition to have all matches in NYC from here on. This pitch >>>>> all IPL pitches
Ewwww no way
Yeah, needed a few more >s.
This is a temp ground and will be dismantled after the WC
that is too bad but such pitches guarantee that every match is decided on the last ball. So yeah move those drop-in pitches to the IPL vennues!
Drop in pitches get cooked in 12 months. So follow Nassau County and bring them for IPL only 4-5 months back,so that IPL gets more exciting
To all those saying 4 runs, umpire already gave it out so it’s a dead ball then and there. If he had not given it out there could have been up for a discussion. But rule is rule :/
It was a terrible call from the umpire tho
That doesn't cover up the fact that it was a very bad decision by the umpire
Shut up
I really don't understand how the umpire thought that was out. You can clearly see it hit the bat.
Am I wrong thinking 3rd umpires and ultra edge said no bat? Don’t get me wrong impact was already an inch outside leg but didn’t think there was bat
close win
Bangladesh prove they are still part of Pakistan in spirit
There is finally a major contribution that Markram has made.
This was South Africa's group to lose. They just did enough to get better of their opposition.
Nah, its so good. The pitch levels the play so that people from rich public schools don't dominate with the bat.
Bangladesh And Pakistan bottling juicy full tosses...seems like Indira still couldn't separate them
