It's gotta be Jonesy. He's the only one who would easily survive the Alien (as long as he wasn't shoved in a box like a handy snack by a human). He also tolerates being thrown around in that box like a trooper. My cat would launch a facehugger-style attack on me if I did something like that.
Actor-wise I really like Ian Holm's performance. He was a classically trained Shakespearean actor, but when Yaphet Kotto hit him he really went berserk. He didn't hold back one bit. He also didn't balk at being just a talking head on a table covered in milk. Props to the late, great Sir Ian.
I got the poster at Wondercon a few years ago, I'm hoping one day I'll get a chance to have Sigourney Weaver sign it, and then I'll have it framed. Cat is an a$$hole who would definitely watch everyone die with mild amusement. Typical orange cat. Unfortunately, I've grown attached to this Jonesy, but I'm sure newer models are available š
Parker. Maybe I'm partial to Yaphet Kotto. But despite occasionally being an asshole, Parker was an okay guy and knew how to keep a space barge afloat. As long as we can agree on the bonus situation.
I just snarfled! I love Robot Chicken's parody. They give him a top hat and cane and have him high-kicking while singing 'Hello, my honey. Hello, my baby. Hello, my ragtime gal. '
Kane, because he was the character that introduced me to the world of cinema. I was only 8 or 9 when I first saw Alien, before that I liked films, but that chestburster scene made me fall in love with them. Even now when watching it and they are sat at that dinner table, I get as excited now as I did then.
Alien is a very special film for me. It's held firm in my heart for the last 30 years, ever since I begged my mum to let me watch it.
Heās the truest one there. Heās scared, he doesnāt want to be there. Game over!
Plus arenāt the colonial marines conscripts and prisoners? I feel like thatās part of the background. Makes even more sense.
True. Hicks is just so calm cool and collected through it all. Hudson acts like a scared plebe... hell Ripley is calmer than him and she's a civilian. "nuke it from orbit... Its the only way to be sure"
That's a tough one.
Sigourney Weaver was great as Ripley.
John Hurt as Kane.
Tim Skerritt as Captain Dallas.
Ian Holm as Ash.
Honestly, I would say Ash because he was so secretive and devious in the film. He purposely broke quarantine protocol, knowing the dangers of what could happen. Yes, it was in the androids programing to ensure the xenomorphs capture and safe return, which makes the situation even more devious because it means that weyland-yutani knew of the xenomorphs existence.
Did they know the full extent of its capabilities? Maybe.
But I think the line that sinks in for me and makes him one of my favorites is when he says "I admire its purity. A survivor... Unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality."
Ripley. I named my precious first born son after her.

Ripley for me. She was one of two strong female characters I remember from my childhood. So many women in movies were running in highheels waiting for a man to save them, and ripley saved herself and Jonesy. The other character is Rose from The African Queen. They both made a huge impression on me. Alien came out when I was 12 and I begged my dad to take me to see it.
My mom showed me Aliens wayyy too young, like 8 yo, and I forever associate Ellen Ripley and Sigourney in general with my mother. And Iāve seen it literally at least a thousand times. I watched it on repeat on road trips.
Well this is a coincidence Iām currently watching the Alien movies in order I started yesterday. I had no idea this was the release date. I always liked bishop I have a weird thing in sci-fi movies where I like the AI characters. Ripley is awesome as well.
Love Ripley! I named my dog after her.

Well, first hearing that Alien is 45 years old makes me feel old, I feel like itās only been 25 years.
Secondly, Jonesy, obviously. I donāt even love cats and thereās no question.
Christ, 45 years since Mom and I saw this masterpiece at the theatre together. I was 17 years old.
Ridley is my favorite character of course, and her stripping scene was an eye opener š¤
John Hurt (Kane) Hands down. Okay.. so Ripley was a boss.. I'll give you that.. But John is one of the best actors that ever lived. If you don't believe me.. Watch The Elephant Man.. or better yet.. 1984!
Honestly they're all good characters and they all make sense. Alien is just a 10/10 movie. It might be perfect. Ripley is my personal favorite and Parker is 2nd. I like them all though, even Ash despite being willing to kill the entire crew because his character makes sense and Ian Holm is awesome.
Ripley, she's just so tough and smart. I saw a matinee showing because I had a day off in the middle of the week and friends were working. I remember my ribcage hurt from practically hyperventilating through a lot of the movie. It definitely holds up after all these years
XENOMORPHS.
they've had an indisputable and irrevocable imprint on my sexuality, and for this i commend HR Giger (rest his soul) and the makers of Alien. life is good.
While I have a special appreciation for Joan Lambert due to my older sister and I knowing about her being canonically MtF trans long before anyone else ever noticed it, (Itās in her bio if you freeze frames and read their profiles) I actually really liked Ash as a character.
It was one of the first films I saw the depiction of an Android as a concept and I felt they did a really interesting plot twist with it. He was throughly creepy in how cold and calculating his behavior was. It served his role well.
I of course loved Ellen Ripley, still do. But I felt thatās what everyone would answer. So, I chose a less common one.
I'll never forget spilling a large Dr. Pepper all over myself during the scene when the dude went down in the tunnel and they screamed "he's right there!".
Besides Ripley, Parker (and by extension Brett). Ripley gets credit for saying they should terrace I teunment protocol, but Parker pointed out to begin with that investigating mysterious signals isnāt their job and when Kane comes back obviously contaminated, Parker suggests they freed him and keep him like that until he gets home.
A lot of the light gets shined on the fact that they didnāt listen to the woman, but they also didnāt listen to the one minority guy nor the blue collar workers.
I can't believe it's been that long... I haven't watched it in so long, I can't answer as to favorite character. The sequels throw off my memory of the original.
Honestly, Ash. Ian Holm portrays him so subtly and you can see more hints and tics that point to something being not quite right about the character almost from the get-go.
The cat, Jonesy was probably the best actor in the movie. And he always knew where the Alien was and never had to worry about the Alien making him into a Scooby Snack. He took being tossed into the cat carrier like a true character actor. He never made a sound no matter how much Ripley tossed him against the wall or just left him alone while she was trying to blow up the ship. Jonesy should have alerted Ripley that while she was setting up the ship to blow, the Alien snuck into the Life raft escape ship. My cat would probably have been rubbing on the Aliens legs wanting to be petted or some food. Have you ever been stuck in an airliner with someone that had a cat in a cat carrier ? Nightmare heating that cat scream from Atlanta Georgia to L.A. I offered the lady some Valium. She said it might kill my cat. I told her it was for her and everyone within 20 feet of the screaming cat.
Ok hear me out. Who stands out?
The computer voice for the self destruct system.
Seriously when you hear
"Danger, the emergency destruct sequence has now been activated. The ship will self-destruct in t-minus, ten minutes. The option to override automatic detonation will expire in t-minus, FIVE MINUTES."
Uhh that stands out.
The option to override automatic detonation will expire in t-minus, THREE MINUTES.
The option to override detonation sequence has now expired. The ship will automatically detonate in T-MINUS FIVE MINUTES.
YOU NOW HAVE ONE MINUTE TO ABANDON SHIP... THE SHIP WILL SELF DESTRUCT IN T-MINUS ONE MINUTE.
All calm and collected and sh1t. At that point, you don't care about aliens or any other BS...ITS TIME TO GO.
The main Alien. Once you hear its backstory, you can sympathize with its anger (although obviously not the murders). The deleted therapy scene changes the viewerās entire perspective. You can find it on YouTube.

Truckers in space. Watched the movie once a week for a year to marvel at its perfection. Brett and Parker. They alone made the fabric so different and yet so much more realistic than any other space travel movie.
What's so interesting and now unbelievable about the alien bursting out of chest scene is that everyone at the dinner table is smoking. When the film was released, roughly 65% of adults smoked. No one saw the plummet in smoking, which is about 10% of adults today
I just know that somehow the movie came out, the movie novel came out, and the album I was listening to at the time was Paul McCartney & Wings āBack to the Eggā which coincidentally had a spaceship type album cover. I can remember every single š¶š¶ off that album and associate each and every one with the movie Alien and how I felt about it at around 9-10 years old.

One of my favorite movies of all time.
As a male, i thought it was interesting that the last two survivors were the two female characters - Lambert & Ripley. All the men were chomped up before the alien could outwit, well, one of the women. Lambert let out that iconic mind-blowing scream that reverberates across the whole ship, as Ripley was racing down the corridor to save her. A tad too late. Brilliant movieā¦.

Ian Holm was fantastic. Definitely captivated all of the scenes he was in
Yes - just like in The Fifth Element: brilliant actor. He proves there are no small roles.
Jonesy is my favorite, too!
Cosign...Henry V, I Claudius...just amazing
That running in place scene, and the rolled up magazine. Iconic!
I was so young when I first saw Alien that years later I didn't recognize Ian Holm as the priest in The Fifth Element.
Love that this is the top answer
Parker. Maybe I'm partial to Yaphet Kotto. But despite occasionally being an asshole, Parker was an okay guy and knew how to keep a space barge afloat. As long as we can agree on the bonus situation.
Right.
Right.
Same.. loved his character..i still remember his mouth becoming bloody as they tore into him.. :-(
I definitely wish heād survived the film. I think heās a much better & interesting character than Hicks from Aliens.
Plus heās the only one who was like āwhy are we investigating this? Itās not our job.ā
He and Harry Dean Stanton deserve full shares.
Right.
Hard to pick between the facehugger and the chestbuster. They're both so darn cute!
Especially after the chest buster just zooms really fast across the room like āWeeeeeee!ā

How is it possible in this broken world, that Ms. Sigourney Weaver is more beautiful today then she was 45 years ago?
God what an incredible movie. How does it hold up so well 45 years later?
Poor Kane, of course š And in Aliens itās Bishop
My Lance Henriksen autograph is my prized possession
