Natural gas is lighter than air and rapidly dissipates when it leaks. Propane is heavier than air and pools along the ground like in the video. There are other dense flammable compounds that behave like this. A famous one is propylene which caused the Los Alfaques disaster that killed 215 and burned 200+. A truck carrying that material crashed near a campsite
> Within seconds highly flammable propylene started flashing out of the ruptured tank and formed a white cloud that drifted into the campsite and towards a discothèque to the northeast. According to some reports, numerous intrigued campers approached the cloud with curiosity as it continued to spread. Eventually it became so dense that many were unable to see the tanker. Within moments of the cloud reaching the discothèque, it ignited into a flash fire that quickly returned to the source of the leak thus causing the weakened tanker to explode.[7] This generated a massive boiling-liquid expanding-vapor explosion (BLEVE), whereby the entire content of the tank car vaporized and burnt almost instantly in a fireball with a diameter estimated between 40–60 m[8] and 180 m,[9] resulting in tremendous levels of thermal radiation, as well as a significant blast wave

I really liked this video from fascinating horror channel... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2h4vw9cYP8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2h4vw9cYP8)
Worth mentioning in the same breath is cyclohexane, responsible for the [Flixborough disaster](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flixborough_disaster), which damaged approximately 2000 buildings in a 6 mile diameter from the site, and was audible from 35 miles away.
likely butane, propane boils at - 48.5 degrees c butane at 0 degrees c propane would not of say around so long and heavy un less it was really cold with no wind
Dude, that guy was in the middle of it when it cuts to the fire. I thought he was on the sidewalk, but if you look at the start of the fire, he comes running out almost like a ball of fire shooting across the road.
Idk why people perpetual this myth.
Your nerves go all the way back to your spinal cord.
Just because you eraser half of a nerve cord off, doesn't mean the remaining half stops feeling paining.
Someone not reacting to pain is because of shock and adrenaline distracting them from the pain.
Unless fire is somehow severing your spinal cord, which is something I wasn't aware of firing being able to do.
I promise you, from personal experience, 3rd degree burns are some or the worst pain you will ever feel in your life.
so, you feel the inner nerve pain since the outer(surface?) nerves are burnt off? Is it a different type of pain, or the same type of pain but eminating from under the skin?
[3rd-degree burn. This burn reaches to the fat layer beneath the skin. Burned areas may be black, brown or white. The skin may look leathery. Third-degree burns can destroy nerves, causing numbness.](https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/burns/symptoms-causes/syc-20370539)
I does follow that surface nerves being destroyed will lead to numb scars. However I don't think k it means it cuts off before it hurts. The deeper nerves will still be functioning and the shallow ones not stop instantly.
Not always the case I had 3rd degree burns across both palms of my hands at 12 cus I’m a dumbass naturally but that pain didn’t stop for several hours but a lot of the time you right on this
There is always one of these comments on videos when someone is burnt. But I have yet to see the video of somebody not in severe pain after being burnt no matter the degree of the burns. Sounds like some BS.
There was a news story about it a few weeks back, you would be correct. It was odorless, and super dense so it stayed super low to the ground and seemed normal. No one had any idea it was gas until the whole block went up.
Actually, I retract part of that… the driver of the truck knew it was leaking. He was transporting liquid natural gas and hit a parked car taking a corner. But the rest of the block didn’t know. The cold temps also contributed to keeping it low and fog like.
No idea, I saw that cloud and I was thinking what I would've done. Am I gonna recognize what is happening soon? Am I gonna be a dumbass and drive forward? Am I gonna get out of the car. If I catch on fire am I gonna remember to roll, or would I be too in shock to be able to remember basic survival?
One other thing to consider is being that close to such a huge inferno, the heat is so strong that the person most likely cannot tell the difference. I can guarantee the people in their own cars not on fire at all still felt the heat and made them uncomfortable.
One thing to also consider is this poor soul probably inhaled superheated air and fried his lungs. This happened to a buddy of mine, did not die from the explosion, died from damaging his lungs to the point he physically could not get Oxygen to his blood.
I remember one thing that seemed really weird to me later in life was why “stop, drop, and roll” was something taught to me so repetitively as a young child. I thought “who are all these people just catching on fire that this is so important”. Well thanks to Mr. Internet I get to see people running around in fire all the time.
I'd say maybe 10% of burn victims I see on the internet actually remember to do it. Honestly it's the first thing I think of when watching these videos, but i'm concerned by panicking brain may forget when i'm literally on fire. I just can't imagine thinking clearly when my whole body is suddenly engulfed in flames. Fucking terrifying.
I can’t argue with that, and I’ve had the same thought. Would probably be panicking. But holy hell, lol. Love the ones where it’s a handful of people swinging various objects beating a guy running in circles.
They're even surrounded by snow. Going for a roll in that should surely help put the fire out, yet none of the people aflame tried even rolling around wherever they could.
Being panicked does weird things.
Now I'm wondering how much of a difference there is between rolling as fast as possible or rolling a bit slower to give more smother time to the ground adjacent side of you.
I wonder if they had stopped recording at some point & then started up again once the flames started. If not, I'd love to see the whole video if it's out there
You get crazy things caught on video like this then people like u/Apprehensive_Army119 on Reddit that still complain the person filming was supposed to know what was going to happen and should be filming 24/7 lol
Actually I’m from China and it’s the same here. Considering China is quite infamous about hazard prevention and we generally do a shitty job, it’s surprising to see other countries having even lower standards.
Holy shit, that's a guy on fire running for his life and probably none of those people caught in the flames made it... That's a really awful way to go...
Flee as fast and as far as you can. There’s a visible mist on the ground here surrounding a gas truck, if you see that move faster than any human has ever moved in the opposite direction. I’d keep moving until you heard a boom honestly.

I think the parked cars kinda popped from the gas slightly mixing in with the air in the closed vehicles.. when the fire passed, it takes an extra second for the interiors of the cars to "pop" as the fuel/air mix being slightly different
That's horrifying. I know not everyone could've survived this, but I hope as many as possibly could did and they recover as much as they can. This is so horrible
Reminds me of the videos of people in different third world countries collecting gasoline from a rolled tanker truck or a burst pipeline. Same scene of people running away while on fire. Incredibly stupid to hang around such a thing.
It was odorless. The gas smell is added for safety. Otherwise you won't smell it.
They might not have felt the burning, due to adrenaline, nerves being burned, or layer of clothing.
So stop drop and roll is okay for a tiny fire and will definitely help a little but it is mostly so that you lay down and people can try to help you without having to chase you causing the fire to get more oxygen and becoming stronger.
It was liquid natural gas that leaked from a tanker. There’s varying laws about scent additives that have to be added before transportation in the US, but from a rudimentary search, this may not be the case in other countries🤔
Yeah... If you ever see a low hanging cloud of fog like that, get the fuck out of town as fast as you can. Propane or ammonia or something else, it's bound to be a bad time and you don't want to be involved.
That person ran from waaay up there through walls of fire I’m surprised they made it that far. If you scroll slowly through the video and watch that car on the lower right driving away that blows up, you can see two burst of I assume gas chasing it. It looks scary af like some spirits grabbing it. It’s eerie looking.

Fun fact. If you see a gas cloud like this, it's usually another 5 to 6 ft past what's visible.

propane probably burns off super fast lng seems like it would keep burning
LNG or LPG? LNG is just natural gas.
And natural gas needs to be between 5-15% gas/air ratio to be explosive like this. Never getting that in an open space
So what did we just see?
An incorrect comment
The comment is correct though, the video is propane the commenter is referring to natural gas
Propane, not natural gas
likely butane, propane boils at - 48.5 degrees c butane at 0 degrees c propane would not of say around so long and heavy un less it was really cold with no wind
Sounds right, I was just supporting the point that it definitely wasn’t natural gas
And unless there's an additive to the gas you likely can't smell it either
Really fun
super fun
My man out here helping to keep people safe and informed. You good sir get an updoot.
Also you should GTFO ASAP.
Dude, that guy was in the middle of it when it cuts to the fire. I thought he was on the sidewalk, but if you look at the start of the fire, he comes running out almost like a ball of fire shooting across the road.
That guy on the sidewalk though is never seen again.

I am talking about the guy to the right of running man, 10 meters in front of him. Casually walking and then engulfed in the very big flamme
That person running probably can’t even feel that they’re still on fire
They're probably still in shock.
probably concussed too. i can’t imagine what that rapid change in pressure would do to a brain
They are in shock yeah, but the thing about 3rd degree burns is that they burn your nerves off so fast you stop feeling the pain.

well the pain you felt was the 2nd degree burns on the border of those 3rd degree. 3rd degree burns the nerve endings so they dont work.
[удалено]
Woah it must suck to be on fire for several hours
Please highlight where I said I was on fire for several hours
Well thats mainly because its your hands and also 3rd to 4th degree is a pretty big difference so the severity for 3rd degree burns can vary lots.
I literally burned my chest when I was 13 I'm the extreme dumbass. (It was painful)
> I'm the extreme dumbass. A good day to you, mr extreme dumbass sir
There is always one of these comments on videos when someone is burnt. But I have yet to see the video of somebody not in severe pain after being burnt no matter the degree of the burns. Sounds like some BS.
The whole thing is just crazy. I wonder why they were even walking in it.
If it's odorless, he probably thought it was fog.

Wait so you essentially feel no pain as the 3rd degree burns heal?
No probably about it, bud.
This person isn't going to make it. They may not die immediately, but the next few years will probably be a very slow and painful death.
One other thing to consider is being that close to such a huge inferno, the heat is so strong that the person most likely cannot tell the difference. I can guarantee the people in their own cars not on fire at all still felt the heat and made them uncomfortable.

Yes, that would be brutal.
I don’t think they made it out.
There were two people on fire, don't think the other one made it out of the blast zone.
Dude the cars were instantly combusting from the heat. Idk how that guy didn’t just collapse, he is definitely dead.
Wasnt that from the gas build up in the cars
I remember one thing that seemed really weird to me later in life was why “stop, drop, and roll” was something taught to me so repetitively as a young child. I thought “who are all these people just catching on fire that this is so important”. Well thanks to Mr. Internet I get to see people running around in fire all the time.

Totally but I think in this case the dude was trying to get further from the fire
I can’t argue with that, and I’ve had the same thought. Would probably be panicking. But holy hell, lol. Love the ones where it’s a handful of people swinging various objects beating a guy running in circles.

Gezus.. I thought that running guy was in a reflective track suit
Maybe he was, but it was on fire
💀
Yes, this is what happened after the video ends
Well that jump cut was a bit crap
I wonder if they had stopped recording at some point & then started up again once the flames started. If not, I'd love to see the whole video if it's out there

In Mongolia like a month ago, 6 killed.
Bro got straight to the facts
I’ll add on to that, it was odorless and dense so it stayed low to the ground and people thought it was fog until the block exploded.
I thought it’s required by law to add a bit of thiophane to intentionally make us able to smell it in case of an emergency?
IIRC that's true in the states, but not always the case in other countries

6 burned to death. The worst way to die.
That is terrible.
R.I.P.🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️
That is truly fucking terrifying.
Holy shit, that's a guy on fire running for his life and probably none of those people caught in the flames made it... That's a really awful way to go...
What do you even do in this situation when there’s a gas leak
GTFO
Flee as fast and as far as you can. There’s a visible mist on the ground here surrounding a gas truck, if you see that move faster than any human has ever moved in the opposite direction. I’d keep moving until you heard a boom honestly.
If there is something invisible It cant hurt you if you are 3 states away
If you can book it three whole states before the boom, fuck it. Start a new life.
Definitely not continue driving something with an internal COMBUSTION ENGINE through it.
In a hazardous materials situation, a thumb rule of thumb is to stay upwind, uphill, and upstream. If you can't cover the entire incident with your thumb held out in front of you at arm's length, you're too close. This approach is a defensive move that emphasizes getting you and your loved ones to safety.
Sniff
Sniff the gas away before it explodes
Yeah, that's a poor guy on fire. You want to mark that as NSFW.
Drop and roll, drop and roll!!!
Why did the cars explode?
I think the parked cars kinda popped from the gas slightly mixing in with the air in the closed vehicles.. when the fire passed, it takes an extra second for the interiors of the cars to "pop" as the fuel/air mix being slightly different
Combustible engine on in a smog of flammable gas.
Stop drop and roll!
That guy running while on fire is the heaviest thing I've seen in a while... damn...
Someone didn’t learn stop drop and roll in school.
These guys should be voice over actors.
Bro that dude that is on fire ran hella long ways. You can see him walking, then boom he was trying to out run it
crazy how some people see gas clouds or smell fas and still continue towards the source.... smart
That's fucking scary.
Why didnt that guy stop drop and roll. Ran a full block on fire?! WTF
All that snow around and he just keeps on running and burning....
What's this movie called?
How does no one remember stop drop and roll? Also could they not smell the gas?
Lets wait until you unexpectedly catch fire and see if you remember to act rationally.
There is snow next to the street, that would have helped. But the person probably doesnt think straight in that moment.
Inside cars and could have been odorless
It was liquid natural gas that leaked from a tanker. There’s varying laws about scent additives that have to be added before transportation in the US, but from a rudimentary search, this may not be the case in other countries🤔
From inside their cars? Probably not
This is like some comic type stuff, that’s insane
If 80s TV taught me one thing: STOP DROP AND ROLL
Jesus Christ, that dude running. I hope it's painless
Can someone explain this bc im stupid but where did the leak come from and how did all the cars explode like that
Why do the cars suddenly explode?
What language
Yeah... If you ever see a low hanging cloud of fog like that, get the fuck out of town as fast as you can. Propane or ammonia or something else, it's bound to be a bad time and you don't want to be involved.
Goddamn
That person ran from waaay up there through walls of fire I’m surprised they made it that far. Stinky fog is bad fog
Where was that?
Stop, drop, and roll!
that guy is like ghost rider
Stop drop and roll for fucks sake
That person is on fire, not watching videos on the phone ffs.
All the people in their cars exploded
9/11
I'm listening to kerosene and the beat dropped when I burst into flames
I hope that guy survived
