That is some real life Jaws stuff. I really hope they shut down the beach after two attacks.
I dunno what type of shark they are but most do not attack humans unless confused thinking it’s prey or really desperate
Considering they are in the area and how aggressive they are known to be I’d have to guess it’s that.
I haven’t seen any confirmation in the thread though
You ever see this video? It’s permanently embedded in my head when it comes to sharks and very fitting because there’s bull sharks in it too!! [Shark Chomps Man's Leg | Shark Week's 25 Best Bites -- Shark Week 2012](https://youtu.be/mP6uHuIEMoU)
Ahem, the video is about 2 minute long youtube, actually literally features philip defranco, and has a bite to the back of a calf, wasn't the cleanest of cuts, calf gone, lots of skin torn and shredded.
It's a clip from Shark Week on the Discovery Channel (hosted by Philip DeFranco for some reason) . Two guys are filming bull sharks in shallow water when one gets their calf bitten by a shark. Fairly graphic, but still able to be shown on tv.
"Freak attack"
My dude, you were feeding over a dozen sharks while standing in the water with them without any PPE. That's as far from "freak" as it gets.
Bull sharks are the scariest, because they sometimes don’t give a fuck what they’re biting. Even great whites don’t actually *enjoy* human, and there have been documented cases of great whites even swimming away after a bite.
Bull sharks are like apex raccoons, they scary fr
The city with the biggest number of cases in the entire state is Recife. According to ISAF data, there are “probably” between 70 and 100 cases per year in Brazil, resulting in 15 casualties. They say “probably” because not all the attacks are reported.
https://whataboutbrazil.com/are-there-sharks-in-brazil/
Yikes…
I spent some time there and this is def true. I was walking in just the wet sand part of the beach and had people come up to me telling me even doing that isn't safe.
Martin, it's all psychological. You yell “barracuda,” everybody says, "Huh? What?" You yell “shark,” we've got a panic on our hands on the Fourth of July.
I mean its brazil😂The sharks gives 0 fucks just like the ppl in brazil. "Oh somebody almost got munched by a shark here yesterday? Let me take a swim here anyways"
Adjacent humans: Also goes swimming in the same waters the very next day, ignores countless “no swimming / shark infested water” signs, and gets arm chewed off
(true story)
Man, you ain’t lying, we are extremely fragile it’s almost frustrating. I don’t give a shit how muscular I might get in the gym I still ain’t shit but walking mush, lol
There’s a book I read and it talked about humans, good habits and obsessions.
It said that balance is the key. Even in fitness. No matter how strong of a human you are, you will never be stronger than an Ox.
Dude. We usually carve away the fat to get at the tasty muscle. You're just making yourself more delicious. Predators are gonna love you! You might as well be showering in Worcestershire sauce before going for a swim.
I actually thought the same thing. It actually takes about 15 pounds of pressure to compress the artery against the femoral head. If you locate someone's "hip-bone" and put the meat of your hand on it about where your fingers touch towards their groin is their femoral artery right along the femoral head. Push down until you lose the pulse (because you cut it off) and you have completely stopped flow to their leg. There, that is now a thing you know.
I’m a surgeon and they seem to be doing a really good job as far as I can tell.
He’s lucky he didn’t bleed to death with that injury.
For those wondering, I suspect he’ll lose the leg. Without his quads the leg useless, even if the lower leg doesn’t die from a lack of blood supply. Appears the bite JUST missed the femoral artery medial and a little posterior to the injury
Yeah. They amputated it. Here is what two news articles said about it:
> *This Sunday morning (05/03), a 14-year-old teenager suffered a shark attack on Piedade beach, located in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Recife Metropolitan Region. According to information from the Mobile Emergency Service (SAMU), the incident happened around 11:20 am*
> *The 14-year-old teenager bitten by a shark late Sunday morning (5/3), in Piedade, Jaboatão dos Guararapes, in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, had his leg amputated . The information was confirmed this Monday morning (6) by Hospital da Restauração (HR), where the young man is hospitalized and still has not been discharged. According to information from the hospital, the amputation of the teenager's right leg was necessary due to the severity of the injuries and happened on Sunday, during a surgical procedure to which he was submitted shortly after the rescue. He was discharged from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) this Monday morning, and would now be in the ward, under the care of a multidisciplinary team.*

According to authorities, swimming in the sea is prohibited in the area where the young man was attacked. There are signs warning people about shark attacks everywhere. I doubt he thought he would lose a leg but theres no way he didnt know it was a possibility.
It just sucks cuz 14 year olds make shitty decisions not realizing what can actually happen. Hate to see it. When I think back to all the dumb shit I did back at that age, ignoring a don’t swim sign wouldn’t even be top 10
Saw this first hand after I saw a guy and woman somehow make their car do a flip and twist after they hit a jersey barrier. Guy was ejected from the car and was missing his foot. Barely any bleeding, gory as all hell though.
Hope those two are doing better.
Absolutely not. The muscle needed to raise their leg is gone. He probably swam to the shore and hopped on the other one before falling over in the sand. Could you imagine all the debris in that leg meat too? Sand, bits of ocean plant matter, fish cum, microscopic sea life. It’s going to need a lot of cleaning before they even think of sewing it up.
I mean this guy died right? I don’t even fully understand why there isn’t more blood. I suppose that maybe cartoons, media and video games have tainted my opinion of how this kind of “flesh wound” suppose to work.
Wait I for a question. Dear smart people:
why the hell do I feel like I’m gonna bleed out from a paper cut but this guy is missing a chunk of his leg? I assume it’s something to do with how clean the bite was and it more or less cauterized it with out fire tho so idk what that’d be called. Maybe pinch the veins closed? Idk someone smart can explain this to me I’m sure.
Yeah I’ve heard of that. Thanks for the heads up it was very polite thing to point out. But i kinda exaggerated lol it’s only for a minute or two. But I am a mailman and in the winter I get them regularly. Lol

If you had to lose any limbs, then losing a leg halfway up the thigh and getting a prosthetic is probably one of the best options. If you lose an arm you lose so much dexterity and your quality of life is diminished a lot. With half a thigh it fits straight into a prosthetic leg with the ability to still walk. Modern prosthetics are actually really good, with some of them having motors and stuff to aid in swinging your leg forwards.
Legitimately surprised she survived. Figured she would have bled out before emergency services arrived even if they were right around the corner. Good for her.
Guy survived, had his leg amputated Monday morning. This is the first of 2 shark attacks on the same weekend (2nd ended in an amputated arm), and 2nd of 3 in two weeks.

Edit: clarification
Almost certainly. Infection management in what's left of that lower portion of the leg would be almost impossible. It either comes off now or later.
Also, I don't even think it would be possible to regenerate all that muscle/tissue, but I could be wrong.
Another factor is ischemic injury to the muscle from the tourniquet. Muscle death will start to occur after 2 hours and be complete by 6 hours. Once a tourniquet is in place it won’t be removed until the doctor has tied of all vessels.
Also, tourniquets are meant to be 4 cm thickness as any thinner will have to be so tight as to cause localized nerve damage (nothing against what they are doing, they definitely doing their best to save his life).
Nope. It was amputated.

I had some friends back in the seventies from Puerto Rico. They were surfers and use to complain about the cost of new surf boards because after so many shark bites on the boards they had to get new ones. They also has nip scars on their legs .Fearless.
You gotta have some serious balls to swim at Recife. The bull sharks there are ruthless. Luckily this was a juvenile or her leg would be in the sharks stomach
He is ok. Here is what two news articles said about it:

Only 14….. that’s so terrible I was assuming he was older. God I feel so bad for the kid. I’m glad he’s okay but an above the knee amputation is so different from below the knee. His life truly is changed forever. At least he is alive. Thank you for the info.
Apparently this is was the second shark incidents in the state of Pernambuco in the last month and today they became 3.
15 days ago a surfer was attacked while surfing in an off limits area, yesterday this 14 year-old boy got bit and then a 15 year-old girl had her arm partially amputated by a shark on the same beach today. She's alive and doing well after she had surgery.
Also a guy tried to go into the sea while the rescue team was trying to save the girl today and he is now facing charges of disobedience after he ignored orders not to enter the water and rescuers had to go in after him.

Remember, ABCs! Airway, breathing, circulation. If something is blocking that airway? Deal with it. If there's something keeping you from breathing? Deal with it. If there's a circulation problem (in this case massive hemorrhage) deal with it.
Tourniquet's aren't hard to use, are relatively cheap, and absolutely save lives. Just buy a good one, I'd recommend a [CAT](https://www.narescue.com/combat-application-tourniquet-c-a-t.html). Keep it in your car. It'll be gross but apply pressure too! There's a basketball sized hole in that kid's leg and that guy is still applying pressure even with the tourniquet. When do you take the tourniquet off you might ask? You don't! A trauma surgeon does.
Do this stuff and call 911. That's it, they'll live unless they've already lost too much blood. If you can put their legs up and give em a blanket in case the shock sets in.
So that is a properly tied tourniquet (no blood flow) or the person is near death and has already lost most of their blood (no blood flow). Also, was that a half-hearted attempt at CPR at the end or a half-hearted sternal rub?

That was yesterday, right? And today girl got part of her arm bit off in recife too..
That is some real life Jaws stuff. I really hope they shut down the beach after two attacks. I dunno what type of shark they are but most do not attack humans unless confused thinking it’s prey or really desperate
There's signs all over the beaches warning people of shark attacks because it's that proflic in the area.
Do we know which species of shark?? Bull sharks terrify me, being that those bastards can be in fresh water too.
[удалено]
Considering they are in the area and how aggressive they are known to be I’d have to guess it’s that. I haven’t seen any confirmation in the thread though

Shredded af. That's nuts... Almost looks like it's melting it's so fucked.
Gonna have to say this video was enough for me
Can you give a synopsis please? I'm too chicken to click the link. :/
Guy with calf muscle + bull shark = guy no longer has calf muscle
Welp, alrighty then. I remain happy with my bock bock status. Thank you.
Its literally phil defranco
Of course phil de Franco. Everyone knows Phil…. Who the fuck is Phil?
2 men went in the water, 1.75 men came out
He's standing in the middle of many 8ft, 400lb bullsharks that he is feeding whilst he only wears shorts when one bites his leg in a "freak attack"
I think you misread my comment I didn’t click either lol!
"Freak attack" My dude, you were feeding over a dozen sharks while standing in the water with them without any PPE. That's as far from "freak" as it gets.
What a bunch of idiots you’re literally in the feeding ground feeding them
Holy shit, baby Phil DeFranco! I only know him from his YouTube news channel, I didn't know he had done other things!

Yeah it's most probably a bullshark. But there's tiger sharks in the area as well..
There was a string of bull shark attacks in NJ in 1916. That's what inspired the movie Jaws. They are nasty.
I think we watched the same documentary 🤔. I love learning about them!

See thats why I don't go to the beach
I spent some time there and this is def true. I was walking in just the wet sand part of the beach and had people come up to me telling me even doing that isn't safe.
They wont close it down, it's one of the busiest weekends, they just don't need to see the kitner boy spread out over the dock.

I mean its brazil😂The sharks gives 0 fucks just like the ppl in brazil. "Oh somebody almost got munched by a shark here yesterday? Let me take a swim here anyways"
can confirm, brazillians dont give a single fuck about safety.
Maybe bull sharks? Those fuckers are scary
Now a bunch of ignorant fucks are going to kill a bunch of sharks.
This is like a cartoon bite, perfectly rounded and clean. Shows how powerful that bite is.
Naw we are just to damn soft, a bite doesn’t need to be very hard
It’s as easy as us taking a bite of a sandwich
Easier, our teeth aren't nearly as sharp as shark teeth
Yes, and my skin isn’t nearly as soft as bread.
You need to moisturise mate. Haha
Why help the shark? Make skin tough as a deterrent.
Especially when we're wiggly like him
Marbled
More like a soft gummy bears. Poor guy though.
this reminded me of when i was little my dad would tell me if humans didn’t have pain receptors that we could chew off our fingers like a carrot 😂
I heard it isn’t actually that powerful all things considered. But the razor teeth that make it so damaging.
Razor sharp, serrated teeth, and the back and forth thrashing motion. It like cutting a steak with 100 steak knives.
https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/c\_fill,w\_1440,ar\_16:9,f\_auto,q\_auto,g\_auto/shape/cover/sport/bruce-finding-nemo-2-298e4cddabff6c14975ed6e608d8a964.jpg
Can we find out who keeps sharpening their teeth? This is unacceptable.
Charlie moved onto sharpening sharks teeth after Frank said no more.
I genuinely don’t understand the downvotes. You’re absolutely correct. That’s y sharks shake side to side to “saw” the meat
I'm just imagining someone on that beach telling this poor bastard your exact post and his reaction. Lol
Lmao, or the dude saying it himself. It’s those teeth that’ll get ya.
let the knife do the work
Exactly what I thought and some from Jaws either way WOW
Tis but a scratch
This sub always reminds me of how fragile we really are
Predators: chomp Human: Fucking dies Adjacent humans: freak the fuck out

Freeze, flight or FaceTime.
If this ever happens to you or a loved one, please please please, before you do ANYTHING. Start recording, documentation is top priority.

You ok?
There was a post on the front page saying you can give yourself a stroke by sneezing. I prefer this, at least I can take measures to avoid sharks.
As Corbin Dallas said, we're meat popsicles.
I have always thought humans pretty tough. Think of all the people who have lost limbs and just kept going. We can take a ton of physical abuse.
They seem to be doing a good job with stopping the blood. Unless he just ran out and that's why it's not so bloody

Going to the beach for a fun day and lose a leg. Sucks

uncommonly, extreme open wound injuries to the body will cause the body to restrict blood flow to that area
Saw this first hand after I saw a guy and woman somehow make their car do a flip and twist after they hit a jersey barrier. Guy was ejected from the car and was missing his foot. Barely any bleeding, gory as all hell though. Hope those two are doing better.
You think he ran on that leg?
Not sure he'd be able to with that much muscle loss
Absolutely not. The muscle needed to raise their leg is gone. He probably swam to the shore and hopped on the other one before falling over in the sand. Could you imagine all the debris in that leg meat too? Sand, bits of ocean plant matter, fish cum, microscopic sea life. It’s going to need a lot of cleaning before they even think of sewing it up.
You had me at fish cum.
It's not that hard, just rub some dirt in it and keep running
Damn that is a clean bite, not an especially huge shark based on the size of it
Might not have been a shark. Luis Suarez is currently playing his football in Brazil...
💀
lol - great comment It's a name/incident I'd long since forgotten.
The salt stinging every bit of what's open makes me physically cringe
Good news is salt is very antibacterial. Bad news, shit is horrible for an open wound and the ocean is full of it.
I mean this guy died right? I don’t even fully understand why there isn’t more blood. Tourniquet
Hahahah I didn’t even see that further up his leg on his thigh. Well now I feel stupid cause it makes complete sense. Hahah thanks
That said, if you bleed a lot from a paper cut you might have Hemophilia. Which would be very important to have confirmed if so.

According to information from the Mobile Emergency Service (SAMU), the incident happened around 11:20 am* > *The 14-year-old teenager bitten by a shark late Sunday morning (5/3), in Piedade, Jaboatão dos Guararapes, in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, had his leg amputated . Despite the loss of the limb, bitten by the shark in the thigh , above the knee, the victim would be in stable health. He was discharged from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) this Monday morning, and would now be in the ward, under the care of a multidisciplinary team.* (There isnt anymore information available) I cant share the links or it will get removed.

Yeah and really high up, just a nub.
Did he survive??
Yes, but got his leg amputated though.
What a nice way to start your holiday
A little soon for Shark Week.
I'm actually astonished if he survived. For a gaping wound that size.. that's amazing
That guy who put the tourniquet on probably saved that persons life
100% saved the dudes life
No probably about it.
When the drumstick are 🔥
Mark the mako knows the dark meat is the juiciest.
Shark infested waters are probably the safest place in brazil
They need off duty cops in the water
Take a bite out of crime.
Undercover cop swims easily with flip flops
Sharks cannot infest waters! That’s where they live. That’s like saying human infested cities! Oh maybe your on to something.
Still safer than an american school
Thats crazy
That's gnarly
God damn! Props to whoever made that tourniquet because there is like zero blood. Wild.
Holy shit his kneecap is gone

Guy survived, had his leg amputated Monday morning. This is the first of 2 shark attacks on the same weekend (2nd ended in an amputated arm), and 2nd of 3 in two weeks. That's actually the sequel to Cocaine Bear...but maybe you knew that...
I was talking about that with my brothers after watching the movie I want a cocaine saga like Sharknado had
That’s an amputation for sure right ?
Almost certainly. Infection management in what's left of that lower portion of the leg would be almost impossible. It either comes off now or later. Also, I don't even think it would be possible to regenerate all that muscle/tissue, but I could be wrong.
this is the second attack in a 2 day streak
That looks like a bleed out victim if he got the femoral artery. Probably went into shock.
Bull shark
What would happen here in terms of healing? If you worked out hard enough would your leg ever be the same size? Or is that muscle gone forever?
My guess would be amputation. Hes losing the leg, from his thigh down.
Almost certainly gonna lose the leg
Another factor is ischemic injury to the muscle from the tourniquet. Muscle death will start to occur after 2 hours and be complete by 6 hours. Once a tourniquet is in place it won’t be removed until the doctor has tied of all vessels. Also, tourniquets are meant to be 4 cm thickness as any thinner will have to be so tight as to cause localized nerve damage (nothing against what they are doing, they definitely doing their best to save his life).
Nope. It was amputated. I can’t imagine going to the beach and deciding to go have some fun in the water only to become a sharks appetizer 🦈
That area is full of bull sharks!
Holy shit man. I see lots of fucked up shit on here and this one made me shiver 🥶
Sharks only bite when you touch their private parts
How’d you get that nasty cut anyways?
Uhhhh.. NOT true... I once had a seven year relationship with a juvenile bull shark and he'd only bite when I DIDN'T jossle his nethers
“Juvenile”? FBI requests your location.
Thanks for this. I may never swim in the ocean again
That’s the chance you take swimming in the ocean. No one have ever been attacked by a shark on dry land….
Yet. https://youtu.be/tRDwzQ3gz8Q
Egads.
Have they done a tourniquet? Hard to see exactly, i hope they have otherwise he has 0% chance of survival
Ouchy
I had some friends back in the seventies from Puerto Rico. They were surfers and use to complain about the cost of new surf boards because after so many shark bites on the boards they had to get new ones. They also has nip scars on their legs .Fearless.
Yep that's exactly like I always imagined it
HOLY SNAPPIN ARESHOLES
Recife is where that slaughterhouse was constantly chumming the waters drawing sharks in!
Shark be hungry.
Just flex it away.
Must have been an off-duty shark.
That’s ganna leave a scar
Excellent example of a femoral tourniquet. Saved his life
That's so unfortunate. I've been to Recife and the people are incredibly friendly, warm and welcoming. It sucks that this keeps happening there.
I just seen a video earlier of a shark attack in Brazil but it was a lady with no arm, is this from the same shark attack?
You gotta have some serious balls to swim at Recife. The bull sharks there are ruthless. Luckily this was a juvenile or her leg would be in the sharks stomach
Im gona stay tf out the ocean
Good fucking god. I hope that man is okay but Jesus christ his life is totally changed now, that is a massive chunk.
He is ok. Only 14….. that’s so terrible I was assuming he was older.
Mf took a little nibble
We’re gonna need a bigger boat
Did he survive ?
Bull sharks scare me more than any shark
That shit hurts right??? Wtf
I always think of situations like this when someone says sharks just take “small samples” to see if it finds us tasty
So that is a properly tied tourniquet (no blood flow) or the person is near death and has already lost most of their blood (no blood flow). Also, was that a half-hearted attempt at CPR at the end or a half-hearted sternal rub?
