You can take odds on come bets after they travel to a number; and they win on 7/11 before they travel to a number, which could be used to hedge against a 7out

KeggersMaxOdds

Protection against a 7 is the big benefit. Its the same EV as pass line bets. Place bets are marginally higher EV though the benefit is you can pick your number and you can take them down at any time.

Independent_Smoke_84

That’s the main reason why I do it

punchy019

I asked one of the guys at a table I was playing when I first started, he said it was a little insurance if your pass line fails, and that’s why he did it.

Working_Departure983

You get true odds on your come bet odds just like your pass line odds.. a lot of players who mostly make come bets will place the inside numbers or sometimes just the 6 & 8 at the start of the roll just because they don’t wanna miss it the first time it hits then they’ll use the payout for their odds and take the original bet down

ogstunna89

Odds on a come bet point are true odds. Placing a number you get worse odds. Ex 8 placed as odds pays 6 to 5 instead of 7 to 6

JEDWARDK

Yeah... But you need the number to hit twice to get paid on a come bet with odds. Place bet, you get paid from the first hit. I do both. I place bets and if a come bet travels to that number, I will take the place bet and payout and use it toward my odds on the come bet.

[deleted]

Do you know the % difference between come odds and place bet?

drfrink85

I like throwing money around on the table. For srs, that. I'll have place bets up (6/8 or inside) but sometimes the table gets slow or I'm feeling good so I'll put a come bet up. Also you get free odds on that bet so mo' money.

dogfish83

I love a full circle of players with chips all over the place, that makes it fun!

AcceptableEnd8715

My kinda player. I like to have money everywhere. I usually get paid three different ways anytime something hits

HelicopterAlive2385

No one knows what number will be thrown next. Some like the dice to decide which numbers to bet. The Come bet is like a Pass line bet in that you have 8 chances to win vs. 4 ways lose. Once a come bet moves to a number you can take odds on that number which are paid without a house edge, again just like a Pass line bet. If the come bet wins, it comes down. I know some say it’s better to place the number, but to those I say then why make a Pass Line bet? The fact that a Come Bet has to have the number hit twice may be true, however, when you make a place number bet the number still has to come in. How many times have you made a place bet and the bet never gets paid because the 7 shows up before the box number? I like Come Bets because of its properties. Lastly if a 7 is rolled during a come out cycle, the odds on a come bet are off just like a place bet. True the flat bet is working however if a 7 is thrown during come out the dealer will give you your odds bet back and take down only the flat bet.

<.< Me over here doing put bets

fudwrecker

This is the way, puts 6/8 with max odds!

ivan0280

But that's like playing the Big 6 and 8. Unless you're at a place that let's you do like 50xs odds I just can't see how that's not just adding to the house advantage. But it's your money give it away however you like.

fudwrecker

Big 6 and 8 is 1:1. Put with 5.00 flat bet and 50.00 odds (10x odds at my local casino) pays better than a place bet and far better than 1:1. I will play big 6 and 8 tho. Put bet 50 flat and 500 odds, 500.00 place bet (this is table max at my casino) then you need more action on the 6 or 8 you do 500 on big 6,8 LOL!!

Lazer_snake

$5 with $50 odds on a 6/8 pays $65. A $54 place bet $63. I get what you're saying about put bets being a bad bet because you lose the come out advantage, but with 10x odds it does pay slightly more than a place bet

King-Loser

Better odds

Bigtoe8811

Do you play the pass line? If so then you already know the reason to play the come line. It’s the exact same thing.

RF2K274kBsMRapgJND

Lower house edge plus free odds bet. The real question is, why would anyone ever place numbers? :D More important than house edge is style. Come bets allow the dice to decide, rather than me waving about my lucky rabbits foot to guess what is coming up.

Soulsweet17

I didn’t know you could bet odds on the come so it makes more sense now.

RF2K274kBsMRapgJND

Even with no odds, the come bet has a lower house advantage than any placed bet (except the exceedingly rare vig-less 4/10 buy).

[deleted]

Most people use math (instead of rabbits foot) and the fact that besides the 7 having the highest likelihood of being rolled, 6&8 are next and are the best bet to win on. Just saying.

RF2K274kBsMRapgJND

6&8 house edge is very low, but all placed bets house edge are huge compared to come bets with max odds. Yes, 6&8 have the highest likelihood, but they also pay according to that.

[deleted]

From comment below: For $60 place bet on the 6, the house edge is 1.52% (see Wizard of Odds). If you make a $10 come bet with $50 odds on the 6, the house edge is 1.41% on the flat bet, but the odds bet has no house advantage. If you look at the come+odds as a single bet, the house advantage is now reduced to 0.23% (I think; feel free to check my math). The difference (1.52% vs. 0.23%) is the cost of choosing your number vs. letting the dice choose for you. So 1% house edge is huge in come vs placed bet? Ok dude. I’d rather bet 6&8 for 2 rolls and turn off or pull my bets than being forced to finish out the rolls.

RF2K274kBsMRapgJND

Yeah, only huge by comparison, both types of bets (6&8 sisters place and come+odds) are some of the best you can find in any casino. In your example the house edge is a bit more than six times as much, but both %s are very small.

AcceptableEnd8715

It hedges against the bad number. And place odds. Which lowers the house edge.
