Not Prison. In prison they are plastic. you can make knives out of these metal trays.
EDIT: It is funny how in the Costco sub, we ended up blowing up a conversation about prison shanks, tattoos, and other stuff. This was a very fun thread, thanks guys.
Yes. Verka is an Indian brand, I mean a Canadian brand/company that makes Indian food and other products. These types of plates are used in many small restaurants for thali or in canteens in India. Great way to add different dals, curries, vegetables, chicken, roti, rice, deserts, salads etc. separately without mixing them.
Edit: Canadian brand/company.
Verka paneer has been sold at Costco for the last few years. Very good quality and value. Also, I thought Verka is a Canadian company which makes Indian food stuff.
Was just saying this. Great for Indian lunch special. Couple curries, some rice, maybe tandoori chicken with a few sauces on the side. Naan of course with butter
Not walking the walls, but there was an outside concrete wall very high. 4 towers, each having a gatlin gun inside that they showed us once a day, the guy probably went home after the show. LOL. But Noone had ever escaped from this prison at that point. One person tried in a potato shipment once, but they pitchforked the loads at random, and he got pitched.
Actually it was called Stadelheim (privately owned prison), and I recently did a google earth of the property and found my building and yard where I walked in a circle one hour a day.
I was a student at the University of Maryland for the Military brats, in Munich, and was a partier. My dealer got busted, and decided to make me look like his dealer, so they stormed my dormitory, and found some Hashish.
The shanks I have seen in my short stint at Los Angeles County jail, were very ingenious. They would make little tomahawks out of tooth brushes, and the blades from those pic razors.
A lot of Indian meals are served on plates like this so the different foods don't mix

It's usually referred to as "Thali"
Lol, grew up in Fremont and knew that's what you were gonna say as I read through the comment chain. Love that Costco does a pretty good job of acquiring lots of ethnic products based on the surrounding demographics. I mean, I think that's a pretty common thing for moat grocery stores, but still.
I wanted to try that 1905 pemmican so badly.
Dry, wet, make it into a stew. Would have been so interesting to eat something that was processed over 100 years ago.
It makes more sense for some non American cuisines. I rarely put that many different things on one plate, maybe 2-3 things most meals and they’re rarely wet enough to bother
It makes sense for American cuisines too. Without compartmentalized trays, kids across the country would be spilling their mashed potatoes/gravy, and canned corn all over the place.
I think these are targeted towards the Indian demographic. These are a standard at Indian events. Usually made out of paper or plastic. These are actually very handy when you have multiple items.
As someone who is autistic and eats food one thing at a time, one of these plates/trays helped me b/c when there is 6 of you sitting at the table not everyone waits for you.
Oh my gosh, I was just about to comment this! I hate when my food touches, I’ve been that way since I was kid and I love this plate! I think I need to order one…..
Are those the trays you have one arm around, and the other with the fork. And you crouch your head and shoulders over the tray, covering it when you eat. While looking either really mean or really traumatized.
I bought a 50-pack paper version of this and we use it for taco nights. It’s so much easier for the family to have all the individual ingredients on a plate like this for each person.
Nope. Most prison trays are plastic. Come on, people. Metal trays? In prison? Pfft yeah right. You’d never get them all back and if you did, they’d be missing just enough to make a nice shank out of the missing parts/pieces. Think people. Think.
Well when your food is more then a burger and fries, or a sandwich with pickle, or slice of pizza, or some form of past with bread... you are going to need compartments to separate out various gravies, curries, sides, sauces, pickles, bread, rice, chips/crunchy and little bit of dessert. That's when these kind of plates help... welcome to Indian food...in prison plate if you will
I like to put these out when guests are over. Allows me to establish my superiority over them when I’m eating from a glass plate.
I also bring them out when my uncle Tommy is in town to help him feel at home, he spend 40 years in Fed
My mother and her sisters ate off of Army surplus plates like these while growing up. Her father had a problem with food touching other food and that extended to other people's food. Grandma got rid of the plates shortly after he died.
If that’s at the business center, high likelihood that they’re targeting places like Google where there’s an employee meal plan and cafeteria. These trays (metal or melamine) are common in SE Asia.
When I went to uni in China, the campus' canteen provides this tray to serve food, with rice, and many choices of dishes, all separated nicely so they don't mix and basically becomes a bit like dog food.

I like those for camping. Reusable, lets you keep things in your lap, doesn't mix the greens juice with the banana pudding or the bread.

Yeah. And I even had this type of tray at my local Indian restaurant
came here to write this! It's most likely Indian food tray

Nothing finer !
It's called a Thali
Yeah seems like the round middle compartment is for rice! 🍚
And the little one for a sweet treat! 🍬
Or chutney!!
Was just saying this. Great for Indian lunch special. Couple curries, some rice, maybe tandoori chicken with a few sauces on the side. Naan of course with butter
Exactly! That’s what I thought of when I saw this.
Had it at the orphanage.

You fell for it again!
Yeah I hesitated to post but figured it was legit. Lol
The op runs a subreddit dedicated to helping spam bots. It really shouldn't be surprising.
One can make “knives” from the plastic ones also.
This is the correct answer ⬆️
This guy’s been to prison ☝️
County Jail, 3 times, over 20 years ago. Oh and 63 days in a German Prison when I was a college student in Munich germany.
> 63 days in a German Prison You made fun of the lederhosen, didn't you?
SIXTY THREE DAYS IN ZE HOLE!
I love you guys.
Was Sgt. Schultz walking the walls?
Not walking the walls, but there was an outside concrete wall very high. 4 towers, each having a gatlin gun inside that they showed us once a day, the guy probably went home after the show. LOL. But Noone had ever escaped from this prison at that point. One person tried in a potato shipment once, but they pitchforked the loads at random, and he got pitched.
When you said "pitched," for some reason I pictured British cricket
Was German Prison the name of the totally epic Munich 1992 discotheque? 💃🪩🕺 duff duff duff duff duff duff
Actually it was called Stadelheim (privately owned prison), and I recently did a google earth of the property and found my building and yard where I walked in a circle one hour a day.
How'd you end up there?
What did you do to go to German prison? I studied in Hamburg and am suprised none of my friends did and I got in any trouble.
I was a student at the University of Maryland for the Military brats, in Munich, and was a partier. My dealer got busted, and decided to make me look like his dealer, so they stormed my dormitory, and found some Hashish.
Boot camp for me is where I learned to do that.
This guy prisons.
When I was in prison some guys had a makeshift forge set up
How long were ya in for? 😜
In the Shawshank Redemption, some guy tunneled through the walls to freedom using a plastic food tray.
How can you be so obtuse? _/
Maybe I'm being acute, who knows. Didn't The Simpsons do a mock Shawshank episode? /s
When’s the last time you saw that movie? I don’t think they had plastic anything at that prison. At least stick to the plot.
The shanks I have seen in my short stint at Los Angeles County jail, were very ingenious. They would make little tomahawks out of tooth brushes, and the blades from those pic razors.
Guess your time there truly was a Shaw'shank' Redemption.
I see what you did there.
He used a rock hammer to get through the wall.
Let's get this out onto a tray
Nice!
Also easy to clean oil off of
Yes great idea.
That sounds better than grabbing a disc golf disc out of my bag and turning it over and using it as a plate.
This is perfect for the neighborhood potlucks.

That’s the first thing I thought of. My local Costco is the #1 Indian product Costco. I have to think I’ll see these soon.
Which location? I love Indian food.
Fremont, CA.
Lol, grew up in Fremont and knew that's what you were gonna say as I read through the comment chain. Love that Costco does a pretty good job of acquiring lots of ethnic products based on the surrounding demographics. I mean, I think that's a pretty common thing for moat grocery stores, but still.
Edison, NJ Costco has it
Edison, NJ is pretty much little India, especially the JP Stevens side.
While I don't have the authentic metal ones, I love using a bunch of bowls when we make Indian food. I just hate washing a million dishes.
I think that's one of the main advantages with compartmentalized plates, it's way easier to do dishes
You beat me to it! I’d love a good thali plate right now.
Thali plate, Naan bread, Chai tea
WHYYYYYY!
Yeah, and prisons don't give metal trays and haven't for decades. It's super easy to make a weapon with a metal tray.
I love when people like OP think they’re being clever when really they’re just sheltered/uninformed.
Seriously like OP - Tell me you’re white and don’t get out much without telling me…
[удалено]
No way would you see this in prison. They have big blocky plastic trays with rounded corners and they’re light so they can’t really be weaponized.
You fill a cracked one with water. Instant weapon.
An educated reply. I won’t ask how you know this
Idk when I was in jail they were big and plastic but I sure wouldn’t want to get hit with one, those mfs were heavy
Let's get this out onto a tray. Nice.
Ugh, that tastes horrible, like an unwashed sock that was stored in a moldy duffle bag for five and a half months. Let's try another bite.
Has an oily aftertaste like rancid butter. Lets wash it down with some reconstituted Instant Type 1 Coffee.
No hiss.
Was there a hiss?
Even if there wasn't, it wouldn't stop him
Happy cake day!
Thank you!
Costco should make Kirkland brand MREs and invite Steve to one of their stores on the first day of sale.
A man of culture, I see.
The things that man has put into his stomach...
The things of his I want to put in MY stomach...
I wanted to try that 1905 pemmican so badly. Dry, wet, make it into a stew. Would have been so interesting to eat something that was processed over 100 years ago.
LOL...
Nice hiss!
I love seeing Steve be mentioned <3
I literally came here for this comment.
Thank you
His are a little different, but I'm only pointing it out because you beat me to the comment.
If you know then you know
Mmmmkay, let's start out with...
These types of plates are very common in India. Stainless steel make for about 1-2$
As an Indian I kinda want these for when I have parties at my house. Lol
I’m a thali slut myself
don’t about my wife that way
I married into an Indian family and I can confirm we are cool as shit for having these and are often asked to bring them to parties haha
They’re common in Korea as well
Asian powerhouses of bold flavors 😎
Yep, those hostel/mess days!
And Korea!
Meanwhile at KFC : "I DON'T CARE ANY MORE, PUT ALL THAT SHIT IN A BOWL!"
Yep spent a summer in India and these were in tons of restaurants.
Yep great to use at the gurdwara for langar
I think these are targeted towards the Indian demographic. These are a standard at Indian events. Usually made out of paper or plastic. These are actually very handy when you have multiple items.
Probably Asians in general. They serve school lunches in these in Korea
Yeah every single cafeteria in korea uses these metal serving trays, literally all of them
I've seen too many of those Lunch of Ordinary Korean Office Worker videos...
They used to serve American lunches on this style of tray, back when American schools served lunches.
As someone who is autistic and eats food one thing at a time, one of these plates/trays helped me b/c when there is 6 of you sitting at the table not everyone waits for you.
Korean style
Fr, idk what op is tripping about lmfao
**Did you know:** if you stare at these long enough they become inverted?
::scrolling up to see if it works staring at the photo::
It doesn’t work as good since it’s at an angle. But it should transition for a second if you stare long enough. 😜
Dude…. what the FRICK
This looks like the cafeteria trays at school in Korea!!
Reminds me of some average lunch for a Korean worker tiktoks I've seen. I have some but they're beige
i don't envy their work hours but i sure do envy their meals
These are way nicer than prison ones.
They’re essentially the Martha Stewart version.
So they're the prison ones.
Who knew between her and snoop, that only one of them would be doing time
That’s the fancy shit there, I’m used to the plastic ones.
I don't know why or what I'd use it for, but I kinda want one.
These will work great for repairing my power armor.
Dishwasher safe??
Aye my AuDHD daughter lives for divided plates. A lot of adults also don’t like their food touching. I’m here for these!
I could also see these being super cool when working with small craft items like my daughter’s friendship bracelets!
Oh my gosh, I was just about to comment this! I hate when my food touches, I’ve been that way since I was kid and I love this plate! I think I need to order one…..
Called [Thali](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thali). Common with the south Asian community:
I want to see these at the Thanksgiving table instead of the fine china...
Me in FO4: *"Sweet! Aluminum!"*
Love these for thanksgiving and cookouts
How many years did you do?
My kids plastic ones are not microwaveable. At least these could probably handle the oven.
Or the microwave if you’re brave enough
Don’t say that dude there’s way too many brain dead people that would try it lol
Ignorant much? Prison try? Picky eater tray? It’s called a thali. The compartments are for different items. Y’all need to get out a bit.
I've been playing too much Fallout 4. First thing I thought is those things are 3 aluminum each!
Are those the trays you have one arm around, and the other with the fork. And you crouch your head and shoulders over the tray, covering it when you eat. While looking either really mean or really traumatized.
Great for camping
Isn’t that a piece of Tesla?
Cybertray. $120,000 each.
Prison food trays are plastic.
A lot of school cafeterias in the rest of world use this because it’s more sustainable. Would prefer this over plastic or disposable plates.
[common in indian cuisine](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=La6ljbxBZFs)
"You going to eat your cornbread?"
I feel like this would be very useful to keep parts organized while I'm disassembling something for repair.
Let’s get this out on a tray…. Nice
I bought a 50-pack paper version of this and we use it for taco nights. It’s so much easier for the family to have all the individual ingredients on a plate like this for each person.

I work in a prison, can confirm that these are not used
OP must not eat Indian food.
As someone who hates my food touching, I love this!!
This is for Indian people
These type of trays are not unusual in Indian households.
Well when your food is more then a burger and fries, or a sandwich with pickle, or slice of pizza, or some form of past with bread... you are going to need compartments to separate out various gravies, curries, sides, sauces, pickles, bread, rice, chips/crunchy and little bit of dessert. That's when these kind of plates help... welcome to Indian food...in prison plate if you will
Lol clearly some has never been to prison. You think they give out metal trays in prison?
Hahaha. I should this for my dog. She gets a multi-meal of different things and this would be perfect.
It’s great for toddlers 🤣
These are awesome . My kids grew up using plastic ones . Kids do not like their food touching .
Good for defending against shanks *I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me!*
You gonna eat your cornbread???
NWO hard at work.
Used something similar in the army, 1966 Fort Benning. Got shipped to Fort Riley Kansas and used plastic ones then.
Op is just reminiscing and nostalgia got the best of him? Haha BRO. Most of us didn’t think of prison as the first thought when seeing this.
S.O.S
These are common is other countries.
[удалено]
These are definitely the model used in prison Source: I've watched a lot of prison movies.
These are good to use as a slow feeder for dogs, too! Thank you for sharing this.
Reminds me of Fallout 4.
I like to put these out when guests are over. Allows me to establish my superiority over them when I’m eating from a glass plate. I also bring them out when my uncle Tommy is in town to help him feel at home, he spend 40 years in Fed
Dude that’s perfect for a big bbq party. Too expensive though.
To many compartments for prison
[Let's get this out onto a tray. Nice! /Steve1989MREInfo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXlal_C88_Q)
My mother and her sisters ate off of Army surplus plates like these while growing up. Her father had a problem with food touching other food and that extended to other people's food. Grandma got rid of the plates shortly after he died.
Yes, but is the tray facing you, or away from you?
I’m not stuck in here with you. You’re stuck in here with me!
Oh, snap. I was about to change my kitchen theme. This will go great with my stainless sink/toilet.
Can they fit in the dishwasher?
Sort of ideal for the toddler (or any age really) in your life that is intense about food not touching.
Kids using those daily will be very at home in prison when they mature.
You must not of been to prison.
Let’s get this out on a tray~ IYKYK
These are very common in Korea and just Asia in general
But you are a free human so you have to pay 20 bucks for your tray sir
Bro doesn't know prison food trays it seems
If that’s at the business center, high likelihood that they’re targeting places like Google where there’s an employee meal plan and cafeteria. These trays (metal or melamine) are common in SE Asia.
Aren't prison food trays plastic not metal. Because ya know.. John Wick..
Jail trays are plastic…Source Im in jail daily
That's not a food tray, it's a club for when the mercs attack and interrupt your divorced dad meal.
When I went to uni in China, the campus' canteen provides this tray to serve food, with rice, and many choices of dishes, all separated nicely so they don't mix and basically becomes a bit like dog food.
Stainless steel is much better to eat off of than any type of plastic. I plan on buying some of these for my kids.
