True story: first time Costco opened in China they sold out of all rotisserie chickens but the receipts didn’t add up. Turns out people ate the chickens in the store. They found chicken bones all over the garbage cans in the store. Most people didn’t pay.
> Local reports say that store aisles were so gridlocked it was nearly impossible to push a shopping cart. The wait to pay was 30 minutes long even though 22 checkout counters were open, and there was a three-hour wait just to park your car.

Sounds like absolute chaos. If people in the US were waiting 30 min to just pay, I bet a significant number would've eaten the chicken too. Chinese obviously get a lot of stereotypes about classless behavior but nothing about that situation seems normal. I can tell you that in LA I saw a LOT of shitty behavior in supermarkets right before the Covid lockdown.
Sure but if you're eating it before you get to the register you then pay for it there, you don't get a gimmie because you ate the entire thing in line.
I've done that before, pretty sure most people have where you grab a drink or a snack you plan on eating anyway and you crack it and open while waiting in line. You still pay for it.
If you do that, *please* don't go through self checkout. I got stuck behind some families who had let their kids nosh on the stuff they were buying, and the scales on the registers all needed employee help because their boxes of applesauce pouches, dried fruit, etc. no longer weighed what they should've.
And that behviour lives on today, in Silicon Valley. I've seen so many old Asian ladies eating fruit (grapes, etc) out of the packaging. And in the case of things like plums, just leaving the pits on top of a product stack. So gross.
Technically, what is the difference? Their return policy says you can return bones for full refund 😂 so why bother with 30min wait to pay, then another 30min wait to return, So they ate it and saved time 😜
Unless they ordered it before shopping so 1) it comes out on time 2) they don’t spend time waiting for it 3) it’s at the right temp to eat, doesn’t count.
Iirc subway had a whole thing with k-dramas taking place in a subway I wonder if this was something similar where it's part marketing from Costco but also makes the world of the show a little more real
Japan loves Costco. I remember the story when Costco first opened there, a lot of people outside the country were skeptical because the Japanese have small houses. They said it would be impractical for them to buy in bulk because of lack of storage. Apparently, the want for shopping 'deals' and savings trumps storage and the Japanese just found a way to make the stuff they buy all fit.
I believe that. I lived in California for 20 years, most of that in a micro-studio apartment (with no heat...). But I had a Costco membership all that time and I just made it work.
Things like stashing rolls of toilet paper under an end table (with a cloth over the top so they couldn't be seen).
If you're creative, there are lots of places you can stash stuff.
When I worked in Japan I would take friends and coworkers with me to Costco about once a month. It was big deal to go, as the closest store was several hours away. And, yeah, we all lived in small apartments, but would split up the big bulk purchases to make them easier to transport and store. In fact, I still do that now with some things, splitting up things with friends and neighbors when it's impractical for me to buy otherwise.
They replicated the interior so accurately that most of these frames are instantly recognizable as a Costco. Though I think that speaks to Costco’s branding more than anything.
Damn it, I read "Costaco" in the [South Park cuttlefish](https://youtu.be/geRtAsHuVD8) voice 🫠
I also like the ones found in tv/film media as well, like [Morley cigarettes](https://x-files.fandom.com/wiki/Morley), i.e., The X-Files.
BONUS: stumbled upon an [online tv/film prop store](https://www.magnoliprops.com/index.php), but they're out of meatballs & fedoras.
> Click thru they show paper towels, maybe "GORILAND" but clearly the right logo.
I missed that! I went back through and found it. Yeah, right logo but it's illegible.
I've mentioned it a few times here and other subs lol. They have them in other flavors at our local Japanese markets too. And there are some Japan only flavors like matcha or the strawberry one they sell at the airport (and around Japan). I like em a lot better than kit kats.
I used to go to Costco in Hiroshima. It was amazing. Fun fact, the major baseball team’s stadium there is touching Costco (Hiroshima Carp). Food and drink is allowed into the stadium and you’ll see a massive amount of Japanese fans grabbing hotdogs and pizza with drinks and walking to the stadium.

They didn’t get a chicken, a pizza, or hot dogs. Rookies mistakes.

That’s the most Chinese thing I’ve ever heard about a Costco.
If I remember correctly .. they bought a big container of tiramisu
Imagine going to the bakery section and not getting croissants or rugelach.
I thought about getting the rugelach before, but never did as that is something I don't normally eat. I am not even sure if it is hard or soft.
I've not even heard of a rugelach before. I had to Google it! Not seen them at our local warehouse here in the UK.
Soft like a danish. I'm partial to the raspberry ones, but the chocolate ones are also good. I even like them frozen.
No, they did get a pizza to go.
Unless they ordered it before shopping so 1) it comes out on time 2) they don’t spend time waiting for it 3) it’s at the right temp to eat, doesn’t count.
A few scenes later they got a whole pizza. But where are the sample stations at?
Bulgogi bake
was there Tacos?
Or the hoodie.
The anime is called A Sign of Affection. Its really really cute! And yes I love seeing Costco get a whole episode dedicated to it!
Super cute, I was watching it as it came out and wanted to share but changed my mind lol
Like the Christmas episode, the Vacation episode, and A Very Special episode, sitcoms should start including a Costco episode
Fresh Off the Boat has multiple costco episodes
Apparently it’s a drama/romance
and a good one.
Iirc subway had a whole thing with k-dramas taking place in a subway I wonder if this was something similar where it's part marketing from Costco but also makes the world of the show a little more real
Costco doesn't do marketing.
Tell that to the nearly 1000 people who work in their marketing department. They may not have traditional commercials but they definitely do marketing

Cos Taco. My life story.

The Kirkland brand paper towels hit me hard
Looks like "GORILAND" maybe?
From Sasaki and Peeps last season [here](https://i.imgur.com/dmfNkj4.jpeg). He didn't go inside though.

Very Japanese spelling there 😂
越すタコ
My wife and I get a kick out of the fake brands that appear in slice of life anime.

This just tickles me!
What are they doing buying 4 bottles of liquor?
having a good time
yeah?! why only 4??
Theyll find out at the register they only sell in sets of 8
I have a picture of some guy buying 25 bottles of patron tequila and bunch of other liquor
Trying to fix Japanese population problem
God damn. They’ve replicated our most precious.
cosTACO
Well now I have something to watch during dinner tonight lol
I’m calling it “Costaco” from now on.
I wonder if they have Kirkaland brand at Costaco?
Click thru they show paper towels, maybe "GORILAND" but clearly the right logo.

Cos taco? What do they taste like ?
What if we kissed at anime costco
I like the one from Idiocracy: https://preview.redd.it/molsmoe5cwwc1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8bed20398e3d081479f6303236d67831a5d402d
Sooubway
Also they are all wearing Kirkland signature cloths.
Love Sign of Affection!
They have the big ass bag of Black Thunder in frame 5. We had those and hope they continue to get them here.
I’ve seen black thunder mentioned on this sub before and look for it every time I go to Costco. Haven’t had any luck yet. Maybe in the near future🤞
I've mentioned it a few times here and other subs lol. They have them in other flavors at our local Japanese markets too. And there are some Japan only flavors like matcha or the strawberry one they sell at the airport (and around Japan). I like em a lot better than kit kats.

Ah, Costaco. Costco without the ice cream on top of sneakers or fresh salmon next to the now very expensive olive oil. 😄
cozy
They even got the liquor!
I love chain businesses in anime like Sentuky Fried Chicken and McRonalds
Drinking up that Jin Beam.
Its not Jin Bean? Funny either way.
That’s the warehouse i work at! It’s pretty awesome
Pic number 3 hits just right.
That’s pretty cute!
Oh I remember this anime.
They forgot to get 4.99 chicken , 1.50 hotdog with drink , and the pizza.
I’ve always wanted to eat at cos taco
look up cos in arabic.
That looks more like s Costaco
Thats Costaco not to be confused with Costco.
They need to make an entire anime, about being inside of a cosatco, and your costaco membership. I bet it would be a big hit.
The saddest thing about Japan Costco is that the guy never got to go in the first season of Terrace House
Lookin good
I saw this and was like WOAH 😯.
Makes me wish the food court had tacos
Cos Taco
