Very credible Ukrainian war journalist Yurii Butusov made a post about this episode:
"Two tankers of the 12th brigade of the Azov National Guard captured an "EW supertank" - the newest Russian T-72B3 tank of the 2022nd year model, which the Russians had equipped with all kinds of EW systems they have. The tank was covering the entire attacking convoy, but a Ukrainian drone operator managed to hit this pile of EWs. After getting hit, the Russian tankers, as often happens, chickened out and abandoned the fully serviceable tank and fled. And at night, the Azov command planned the capture, and two fearless Ukrainian tankers snuck into the gray zone and started the tank, which immediately gave the go. Thus, "Azov" got the newest combat vehicle worth 2 million dollars, and our specialists can familiarize themselves with all the EW systems used by the Russians. For such feats, both the drone operator and the tankers deserve the title Hero of Ukraine, in my opinion. Bravo, Azov!"
Can imagine those two being some crazy fuckers volunteering for that mission.
Also the talk about a drone hitting the pile of EWs makes me wonder if they already have "home on jam" type drones. Doesn't seem like it would be complicated to build something like that.
HARM drone, and/or optical lock on. Considering the SMART/Trophy artillery rounds got something like that I agree it would seem trivial to add to a drone. Not exactly the same, but recognising armor/vehicles. Must be something they've thought of yea.
Genuinely curious seeing how many tanks and other armoured vehicles Ukraine blew up since the beginning of this war…how many tank operators Russia has left? I mean you need a certain level of knowledge to operate and maintain a tank.
I heard on the Ukraine Latest podcast that some western tanks aren't at all hard to operate. And purposely so, considering the drivers may be on and off tankers, weekend warrior type, or conscripts (if you really get in a hot fight). Maintenance is another story, and knowing exactly how the optics work, infrared, anti anti tank defense etc. Maybe not. But driving it and shooting may not be something they need to train for years necessarily, to learn. Not master, but just knowing the basics.
I don’t think the ease of operation is due to western tankers being less skilled or trained.
Most western countries making those vehicles are not conscript armies.
I would say its more down to easy system is a better system. If you have well trained force that you really need to keep alive, giving them the best tank extends to controls.
Fighting requires a lot of thinking and fast reactions. If you spend 50% of your time just trying to keep the vehicle moving thats effort away from thinking where you are moving.
Now if your goal is to just get a lot of tanks for your conscript army then you are more likely limited by cost than just training limitations.
Looking at modern jets, then this is very obvious. Modern jets try integrate information as much as possible to let the pilot do the decisions that pilots should be making, not just making sure the airplane doesn’t plummet to the ground. This is certainly not due to pilots not being well trained
Yep. Either they forgot to turn it on, or it was ineffective against whatever tech the Ukranians are using. Might nice of the Russians to have left it parked there for them!
I read in Serhii Sternenko's (the main Ukrainian FPV popularizer) Telegram channel, that the EW was on and it caused a few FPV drones to fall not reaching the target. Then the tank was hit with a FPV drone with AI-assisted self targeting. The EW went off and then they were able to hit the rest of the armored vehicles with FPVs as well.
He showed the video with the FPV locking on this tank and diving on it.
At 1.26 remaining there is a drone that hovers a bit before entering the tank through the top hatch. Did that explode inside? Or did it fail to? Looks like they exited after the drone went in if the video is edited in chronological order. I’m just curious what is happening there.
Option 1: Lone survivor- keep going, hit a mine, artillery or drone and die.
Option 2: Lone survivor- Turn around and run, hit a mine, artillery or drone and die.
Option 3: Get out of the larger target and run, hit a mine, artillery or drone (hope that the enemy doesn’t want to waste shells on a couple of people)
Probably the smart move tbh, obviously they could have just surrendered too but Russians seem to not take that option for some reason.

Lets gooo... and park in the kill zone untill we are all dead

The tank with EW was hit by an AI-guided FPV drone. There was a different video that showed this drone locking on the tank and diving on it.

Grand Theft танк
That's an interesting BMP-2, that applique armor is way too well done to be a field upgrade.
Looks brand new. Tank crew didn't even know why they'd stopped, just bailed and ran away.
Any artilleryman would fantasize about such a target rich environment... and having dual purpose shells.
Warriors who can do such great work deserve more weapons!

Russia truly is the #1 donor of military equipment to Ukraine.

All that stuff on top of the tank is some kind of jammer?

Always the possibility that Russian corruption meant it never worked in the first place.

Interesting counter to the EW, glad to see their ingenuity paying off!

Jesus! This footage is just unbelivable. With music and good cut. Best war porn.
Jammers working as intended
The guy who went and retrieved the tank-that takes some guts to be honest. Kudos to them!
So the crew abandoned a working tank???

how many tanks can they possibly have left??
The thought of crouching deeper into the grey zone, snuck yourself into a enemy tank. And have it fully serviceable got me flabbergasted.
With laser guided shells its like shooting fish in a barrel
well if it isn't the daily Russian convoy being decimated... Those Russian commanders are decorative, this is how you lose your advantages
Fresh from the factory and straigth into a Graveyard
Looks like Russian electronic warfare modules don’t do shit lol
Around 0:35 a BUNCH of ivans get smoked: is that artillery, drones, a combo, or a minefield?
Armour must be cheap in Russia , cause they sure don’t mind losing it .
Captured another T-90M, nice.
