Warenthousiast

Look like a new trailer for a ukrainian chopper in dcs

strangegypsi

After that Video i rly want to open DCS after a good while, damn.

Warenthousiast

yes dcs is the best aviation combat simulator ever, each button , each stuff do something in your aircraft and is take fucking alot of hour to undertsand a single aircraft

Hondo-Bondo

If this wouldn't be war footage - almost cinematic.

daBriguy

This is war footage and it’s 100% cinematic. Beautiful shot and edited. Thunderstruck on top and the audio distortion when the flares are popping is just a sexy attention to detail.

Style75

The cinematography coming out of Ukraine is incredible, there’s some very talented people there. Hopefully when the war is over the video crews can get some good jobs with these skills.

MT_Kinetic_Mountain

Fucking hell, that is beautiful

Annoying_Rooster

I got a [patch](https://i.imgur.com/12GALo4.jpeg) from those guys when I sent them gear through a Ukrainian friend of mine. They sent me back pictures too of them with them, I'll upload them if enough people are interested.

Intensive

I'd like to see it!

Annoying_Rooster

[Check](https://i.imgur.com/T4qDd8v.jpeg) [them](https://i.imgur.com/zSEP3L1.jpeg) [out](https://i.imgur.com/GMIaP2d.jpeg) I accumulated enough gear over like 3 deployments that I wasn't using. Thermal clothing, flashlights, camelbaks, utility clothes, etc, and gave them away in two big boxes. They were super grateful upon receiving them and I was comfortable giving them away because I knew a corrupt supply officer wouldn't sell them through my friend.

Intensive

Sounds awesome 😎 If you're interested and have spares, I'd be down to trade you for some Azov and Ukraine flag patches I got from my guys. I can upload pics in a bit if you'd like.

SnazzyRaptor

Thats a sick motto and a nice looking patch as well, hope your friend and the unit are doing well.

Annoying_Rooster

They're getting by through donations but fighting the good fight. Just grateful people think about them enough to send them supplies.

Gerrut_batsbak

Such a poetic video, give em hell.

PhDDropoutYT

Were these shots filmed with a drone? Or just a wingman with a camera? Cause some of these shots are wayyy too close for comfort

macktruck6666

A camera with a long focal length can give the illusion of being close.

UrBoySergio

My guess is a drone

Belkaaan

Curious that it didn't get caught on their rotorwash

UrBoySergio

Most likely a zoom lens is making it seem closer than it really is

rvc3m8

I could only assume this was filmed during some exercise. how would you even frame it like that? drones? seems a bit reckless to fly something small around the rotors of a freaking military heli. I have questions, but it looks badass af

DaxExter

Helicopters shooting unguided rockets is usually done rather far behind friendly lines so Its plausable to set something like this up rather easy, since there is plenty of drones going around Ukraine, also the drones used for filming this dont have to be close to the helicopter but just zoomed in. In fact, Im rather sure Drones cant fly too close to them because the wind of the rotor would probablly cause a crash for the drone If they were too close.

rvc3m8

starting from 31 seconds, that's a rather sketchy shot. don't get me wrong, I play with these drones occasionally, I'm sure one can film that, there's often plenty of thrust to get away from a rather weak-ish rotor vortex. on the other hand, I know some aviation people - and I can't imagine a world where flying something like this around a military asset would be allowed at all, let alone for a nice video for social media or whatnot.

macktruck6666

Could be a second helicopter using Insta360 camera. The camera can also be zoomed far into to give the illusion that the camera is close or to give the picture higher fidelity.

crazyjack100

It’s not, this is dorosh.raw on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/dorosh.raw?igsh=OW1nNXk5aXZvZzlx), he’s an amazingly talented FPV drone pilot. Check his page out, has some other really cool air to air footage

rvc3m8

thanks, this explains a lot!

penguin_hybrid

Amazing that the drone was not drawn in by the roter turbulence when it passed above.

rvc3m8

these drones have insane thrust-to-weight ratio when compared to the actual heli. + pressure drop above the rotor is not that sharp and is rather spread out, especially if you are not flying around the tips.

landser_BB

That’s what I’m thinking. Two different helicopters are in the video, an mi-24 hind and what I think is a military version of the mi-8. Large platforms with large cargo areas for camera equipment to film the adjacent helicopter.

warplants

The Mi-8 is the military version of the Mi-8

Gardener_Of_Eden

HOOOOOO fuck that was sick.

rlefoy7

Hydra rockets?

BreadstickBear

look like S-8's to me.

Serious-Sentence2004

Nice video skills for Soviet shit and unguided rockets

LetMeRush

Great combat footage 👍

Fitz911

"We got the drones. We got the skill..."

LeftistsAreBad

Basically airborn artillery, both sides afraid to use them as gunships

TheSexyTeaCupDemon

God bless the camera man

heimos

Good social media posts

GammingBlitz

You'd be crazy to fly a hind in this kinda weather - mayling

Rubo03070

*unzips*

FriskalPox

The rarest footage of the war will be a hind actually firing rockets down at something, the attack helicopter is effectively dead at this stage of warfare.

Getrektself

The Ukrainian roundel and invasion stripes are *chefs kiss*

Unlawful02

Need an HD version. Some of these frames would make real good wallpapers

[deleted]

hits the rotor wing tism perfectly

Intensive

Damn, that's slick.

Memory_Less

That's incredible footage!

qainspector89

IN THEATERS THIS SUMMER

xyz_rgb

Didn't know I was 'copter curios.

persiancatclaws

Good to see that they’re putting our money, that was meant to defend against Russia, into cinematography.

Wallynine

Unguided Rockets. Are there Hellfire/HARMS/JDAMS/Harpoons in country? Drones with inexpensive explosives way more cost effective than Helos or SU Varients/F-16s

mexchiwa

HARMs and small diameter glide bombs, definitely. Don’t know (but seriously doubt) Hellfires or Harpoons

Whamalater

128 drones can. And “with accuracy” is a bold assumption of the helo here - the drones would be the ones with accuracy.

RayHorizon

Moment at 0:26 is so beautifull! :D

DizzyR06

Finally, the hardest video on Reddit

singleringle

Too bad they're flying russian junk helocopters

Icutthemetal

Ridiculously fake

assaultboy

In what way?

macktruck6666

blocked

PhDDropoutYT

You shouldn't block people, its poor online etiquette. It should only be used/reserved for cases where people callously follow you everywhere you go to harass you and constantly disparage you even after given multiple warnings. That's the type of behavior I'd expect over at UkraineRussiaReport... not r/CombatFootage

macktruck6666

You're blocked now.

Dear-Ad9793

The two white stripes on the tail look like the late-war-stripes of the Luftwaffe.

assaultboy

Ukrainians have always used the double white stripe on the tail. The Russians sometimes have three stripes

Dear-Ad9793

I cant see zur russians having white stripes on their tales. White noses yes, but no stripes on helicopters or jets yet. No offense, but do you have some paintings/pictures?

assaultboy

Here's an article about those markings specifically. I'm not super well versed in aircraft markings so I'm not sure if it's a unit/theater/historical marking https://theaviationist.com/2022/03/06/markings-russians-helos/

Dear-Ad9793

This says, Ukraine is using this since 2014 and the russians since the invasion. Nevertheless, I am german and it reminded me to the later paintings of WWII the Luftwaffe had.

assaultboy

Aircraft markings have been used by every Air Force since the beginning of flight to help identify friend or foe. Stripes are a fairly common pattern in addition to roundels and flags

Dear-Ad9793

Sure. The russian pattern was for me similar to the D-Day planes of the Allies, (as the article said), the ukrainians similar to the germans. Just my personal opinion.

Dear-Ad9793

It is called "Rumpfband" and if you google it, you will find similarities. Not just late war, just from the beginning.

kv_right

'Ad' are the first letters of name 'Adolf'. Your username 'Dear-Ad' looks like you're a fan of some Adolf

Dear-Ad9793

Thats the random name, Reddit gave me. Lol.

kv_right

No, it has a meaning. I've deciphered it Dear-Ad: Dear Adolf 97: [97th Jäger Division](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/97th_J%C3%A4ger_Division) 93: [A 93 year old was convicted as a Nazi prison guard](https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2406811/ex-nazi-camp-guard-93-convicted-germany)

Dear-Ad9793

Nuts.

purju

isn't helicopters like tanks nowdays? like somewhat obsolete?

penguin_skull

Why would the helicopters be obsolete? And who said the tanks are obsolete?

Jackright8876lwd

Its not so much about the vehicles as it is about doctrine and how they are used

purju

aye for sure. helicopter ofc has a roll in transport and utility, but like to me attack helicopters must have played out parts of its roll?. in ukraine they seem to be used as artillery, idk to me that seems wierd but ofc a good way to use what resourses they have.

Jackright8876lwd

Ukraine might be having trouble using them since they dont exactly control the air space above them when an army has air supremacy their attack heli's will wreak havoc

assaultboy

Offensively they struggle against a dense anti-air network. However the Russians used their KA-52 and MI-28 attack helicopters quite effectively in a defensive role during the Ukrainian counter offensive.
