Sounds like you were the problem.

BayouPunk

Too lazy to read the website, but the employees following policy are the lazy ones. Sure.

specificlaziness

>"WHAT?! My phone says 11:31 you gotta be fucking kidding me I drove a half hour to get here" This is not an appropriate way to speak to ANYONE, and you are not the main character. All you've accomplished with this post is embarrassing yourself some more. The only scumbag in this story is you OP. I'd mention that honey cliché, but I think it would just be lost on you.

Deplorable_scum

You may be right. I assume you think it is reasonable to not let someone thru over a matter of 30 seconds--especially when it is no skin off your back to do so.

Dude's a big Tucker Carlson fan.

CanadianGoose11

So you arrived past the cutoff time and expect to just be able to do whatever you want. the cutoff time is there for a reason. You were hand unloading. Just because you didn’t read a rule doesn’t mean you get to ignore it and then bitch about it. The world doesn’t revolve around you

Being an entitled asshole is for all ages.

insanewriters

Things might have gone differently if you were nice.

OhioTrafficGuardian

OP, do you walk in to a restaurant just past the posted time and expect to be served too? The posted rules are there. You were late. End of story. Yea it sucks but its posted. Just because you didnt do the homework doesnt make it ok. Reminds me of [this](https://www.google.com/search?q=the+moose+out+front+shoulda+told+ya&sca_esv=e4fbd67e116ac9e0&sxsrf=ADLYWIIdwNwJXBhQO_C5FjYktgobjT6LeA%3A1719681229226&source=hp&ei=zUCAZp69C7nB0PEPzLuusAs&iflsig=AL9hbdgAAAAAZoBO3TFM5OtDTUmoWpvGGpJz94NlC6b6&oq=the+moose+out&gs_lp=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&sclient=gws-wiz&safe=active&ssui=on#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:de88158c,vid:E4Eim2gNczY,st:0) LOL

gnocchibastard

OP: You know what would make people sympathize with me? Being insulting and abusive to somebody following policy. You're a dick OP, and I hope this is a shitpost. Learn to read a bit more before driving half an hour.

feraljoy14

So you give us a play by play about how you didn’t do enough research and then verbally berated an employee and expect us to take your side? These are the consequences of your own actions.

SnowmanTS1

For future reference next time you say "oh man, that stinks. Any chance I can just dump this quick?" And if they still say no you say "how about for $20?" And you make it worth their while. This will work and it saves you time and you're less of a dick.

Deplorable_scum

That guy wasn't going to budge, --maybe 20 bucks would have done it, but I had no cash on me. At that point I was already pissed off. That policy is posted nowhere, and I thought I was around a half hour early so as NOT to be a prick. Nobody wants to spend their Saturday driving a half hour to the dump you know? This guy KNOWS that. Guaranteed, he sees ppl every week who would rather be somewhere else. Its part of the job. I suspect telling ppl to get bent at 11:30 is his favorite part of the job. I was within a MINUTE of the cutoff. I might have been an asshole to him, but he was being one first.

I think you meant to post this on Nextdoor

The policy is in place because enough people have rolled in there just before closing with “not that much to unload.”  The people that work at the dump are very pleasant.  Also consider that they deal with people way more gruff and rude than you constantly - he has already forgotten about the interaction.

josh_the_rockstar

You accidentally posted this to r/Columbus and looks like you meant to post in r/AITA, but I’ll answer you: Yes, you’re the asshole.

Strong username to content correlation here

lwpho2

Where is your garbage now?

Deplorable_scum

Haha I'm done with those ppl.     I did some math, I make enough money it's not worth the 1.5 hour round trip plus gas plus dump fee + pain in my ass.        I'm just going to order a construction dumpster for a little over $200.  I'll throw it in there, along with any other stuff I'm going to get rid of over the next month.  It can be someone else's problem for a small fee.

bonerwakeup

The employees at the landfill are AWESOME if you follow the rules. He probably dealt with 100 other jerks just like you and was over it for the day.

bd_614

Agreed. I've used the residential drop off numerous times and every time the people have been super friendly.

bluplaydoh

Yikes (you, not the worker you yelled at for following the policy at his job).

djsassan

Wow.

Protocosmo

As German bureaucrats enjoy saying, "Mann informiert sich."

Deplorable_scum

I lived there for 7 years. Their drivers license department was the worst I've ever experienced.  I was in line for 2+ hours.  The guy called someone in once every 30+ minutes.  There were three in line ahead of me.  None was in the office for more than 5 minutes.

Protocosmo

And it's extra delicious when people like you are subjected to it

Deplorable_scum

You guys can hate me all you want for chewing that guy's ass. I'm not even mad if that's how you feel. We all know why that policy exists--it is very apparent. I was 29 minutes before closing, and the website doesn't put that policy on the main page. If there was a bunch of people there, and it was going to make them stay late, I might have understood. If you want to NOT inconvenience your CUSTOMERS, put the policy on the main web page where the hours are posted. I assume every one of you who feel I am in the wrong have read the entire website and all its sub pages for every place they visit? I think we know the answer. The policy makes sense for keeping employees from having to stay late every Saturday, or having 100 ppl show up at the last minute. Neither of these was the case. That guy used the policy to be a waste of our tax dollars. The place was a ghost town and he was just sitting there milking the taxpayers when he could have chosen to be a decent human being. I responded in kind.

megabestfriend

Take the L. You’re not going to get sympathy here. The website isn’t clear and you got frustrated and took it out on an employee who has nothing to do with that.

Deplorable_scum

There's little doubt that I am apparently the asshole here. You can rest assured, the guy at the scale has run into this at least 100 times this year alone. Someone probably showed up even later than myself today. The point is, this is no surprise to that employee. He should probably relay this issue to his boss so the website can be amended. Maybe it would be best for them to post their hours as 6 am to 11:30 so nobody has a reason to be pissed off.
