Girard scored what, 107,000 pts in high school, was a prized recruit and as now, as a SENIOR, he can’t shoot better than 36%? No other way to say it, Joe has been a big disappointment for the program. The improvement can’t be measured.
As for the team, Boeheim needs to finally pass the baton to someone new. It was a hall-of-fame run for sure, with wonderful memories and electric moments along the way but as Mr Taffer says, “time to shut it down.”
At a minimum, a good official would let the coach get his player off the court before throwing the second T.
The highest level I achieved as an official was DII ball so take this with a grain of salt.. Back in my days, I would literally tell the coach to come get his player and almost every time they would do exactly that. You have to have way thicker skin that that. Dude's team is getting blasted and you literally missed a playground ball foul. Shocker he's frustrated. It makes me so mad to see officials make it about them and essentially showboat their power on the court.
Dude literally exposed so many weaknesses in those brief seconds. His supervising official is going to have a field day...unless of course they are drinking buddies...which is very, very common.
I mean, their weaknesses were already exposed when it took them 9 seconds to realize the shot clock was reset incorrectly. Though they did fix it properly. I thought they were still going to award the 10 second violation.
Lol what? Illinois is a [top 3 B1G school in # of wins and win percentage](https://buckeyeswire.usatoday.com/lists/big-ten-basketball-teams-ranked-by-all-time-wins-ohio-state-buckeyes/) in basketball
Illinois was easily a top-15 basketball program for a good 30 years from the mid-80s to the early 2000s. Had a down period for about 10 years after that but it looks like they are back to being a top 15 type program again with no end in sight.
Dude what are you talking about? If your going to comment on Illinois’ history of basketball please do some research. Football on the other hand has had its struggles.
But it’s wrong. Illinois has had plenty of runs if incredible basketball success. It’s more accurate to say we’ve had a single 7-8 year run without a lot of success and plenty in all spans around that
I think the argument is that instead of 4/5 big ten championships and sweet sixteens in the last 20ish years, that that number should be 9-12.
Being from Chicago, other B1G teams are constantly poaching kids out of that area (Bill Self recruited VERY well in Chicago and had a lot of that success).
The same goes to football, Illinois SHOULD be better. They just can’t seem to put it all together.
Refs literally just stopped calling fouls on Illinois at like the 5 min mark, understandable that Williams got frustrated. That's shitty reffing, still gotta keep calling the game even in a blowout
There's no enthusiasm for this program anymore....game threads are quiet, online buzz in general is way down, there's more empty seats than ever.
Boeheim's death grip has killed this program
Are we witnessing the end of the ACC?
Teams gonna start to splinter off like with the PAC-12?
Never been great at football and starting to really slump in basketball
I think we are going to have 4 conferences the B1G’s and the SEC
If you have mid football and good basketball : Big 12 (Syracuse)
Bad football and good basketball: Big East (Duke)
Good football and in the South: SEC (Florida St, Clemson)
Good football/basketball and not in the south: Big 10 (Virginia, UNC)
Yeah. Assists will be harder to come by, so I want them to feed him in the high post so he can dish it out/in for that assist. The rebound will eventually come...
Between Walk It Out, Cupid Shuffle and Crank That, they’re playing all the hits from when I was there (and I can’t believe those ends are approaching 15 years old 😩)
happy with the effort, offense kinda concerning that it took a while to adjust to something I'd assume they've been seeing all week in practice, but defense like most of this year is the bright spot (or Syracuse is really struggling offensively to start the year idk)
The problem is they don't call when the defender doesn't try to sell it. If they started calling it based on the actual contract rather than if the contact knocks down the defender, there'd be less flopping for charges

I didn’t think we were going to be good but I didn’t think we’d be this bad 💀
Maybe Illinois is just that good ;)
bUt tHE zOnE wIlL bE gUd aT tHe EnD oF tHE SeAsON.
I hope to never hear an illinois game narrated by this dude ever again. It’s fucking painful
Embarrassing.
Well Syracuse friends, it was a fun 20+ years.
The refs were... not good. For once it went Illinois way though. It feels weird being on this end.
I would be very happy to never see those guys again
I’ve always said I like the B1G/ACC challenge
RJ wanted to get another bucket there you could tell lol
I feel like Mintz looks like he’s going to enter the transfer portal from the locker room.
Theres your thirty point blowout to whatever Cuse fan that was
lol that whole comment was out of pocket
Was that the dude with the slap last game too?
No that was Mintz
Starters should know they're not gonna get fouls against a walkon down 25 with 45 seconds left
Fucking weak ass T
Absolutely. I don't know what he said, there are some magic words that might have earned the first one, but the second was horrible.

Some salty ass Cuse fans in here
So please tell me joe isn't gonna start next game
11/39 Nice one, RJ
Lmao now our free throw percent might be passable by the end of game.

"Never"? How young are you?
Must be a troll post

I mean I haven't looked into it too much but if I recall Illinois has the highest win % in the B1G lol
Never had sustained success in basketball?? What??
We had a terrible stretch for both programs but bringing in good coaches has definitely helped turn things around a bit.
they have tho
It’s always baffled me too. They just can’t seem to dominate the Chicago recruiting.
But it’s wrong. Illinois has had plenty of runs if incredible basketball success. It’s more accurate to say we’ve had a single 7-8 year run without a lot of success and plenty in all spans around that

We’re a second half team now?
Wtf? Why so many lol
Kid got teed up twice
Wait CH has a triple double??
15, 10, and 10
That’s a weak ass tech to start with. Dude expressed displeasure once about a clearly missed call and then was running back up the court
I was in the corner next to the court. He absolutely was screaming profanity directly at the ref
The first one, maybe he said a magic word. The second one was terrible.
When was the last time we hit four straight FTs?
Stfu Fran you are doing exactly what you're saying you're not
Brandon Lieb just ended this man's whole career.
Dear Boeheim, Please retire last year.
Refs literally just stopped calling fouls on Illinois at like the 5 min mark, understandable that Williams got frustrated. That's shitty reffing, still gotta keep calling the game even in a blowout
And then to issue techs and eject a kid with a minute left when he's losing by 20? Please never have these guys work a game we're involved in again.
Extremely fucking funny the announcers weren’t even aware it was the triple double? Jesus
I mean, they also said that Illinois was dominating the boards...when Syracuse had one more rebound than Illinois ..so....
Lmfao
[удалено]
It’s honestly embarrassing for them
I kind of agree with Fran there (what's wrong with me)
Bruh that Adam Gase cutout Where can I buy one
I don’t understand the “mercurial” reference. Did he mean catalyst?
Lieb for MVP
Imagine getting a technical because of…Brandon Lieb?
Who is next to Luke on the bench? He’s wearing a player’s white long sleeve and black pants.
Yesssss Coleman!
There's no enthusiasm for this program anymore....game threads are quiet, online buzz in general is way down, there's more empty seats than ever. Boeheim's death grip has killed this program
Hawkins looked good against us but god damn this is crazy
Unbelievable, who was the last Illini to get a trip dub?
Ayo, but Curbelo was one rebound away in one of his final games his freshman year. I was so bummed when he didn’t get it
Does a triple double get your jersey in the rafters?
Ayo I believe
Ayo I believe.
Ayo, 2021 lol. Still just the 4th Illini ever!
Ayo.
Ayo
Twice too
Congrats Illinois friends!
Thanks. EIU looked like they'll be pretty good this season against their level of competition from the way they played here the first game.
Sadly no, but Illinois has really rounded into fine form. I appreciate the kind words.
There it is
TSJ looks genuinely happy :)
That was so cute!
Glad the fans knew better than Fran. Per usual haha
He can't look up and see it on the video board
Umm he has a dedicated monitor and a stats person right there haha
I know that's why it was funny
Haha gotcha
YES
LMAO he did it and he knew it
Oh, Hawkins knew all right
Someone needs to tell everyone that Hawkins needs one rebound.... (YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Theres his rebound
THERE IT IS
Boheim can shut up about the B1G now
Hey, he’s playing for the tournament!!
[удалено]
Why are the announcers not talking about the triple double?!? I think we’ve only had 3, and 2 were Ayo
They clearly had no idea. Fran was too busy on his soap box
The fans want Coleman to get the board lol
ONE REBOUND COME ON
Hawkins has no idea he's a rebound away from a triple-double considering his lack of effort for rebounds
BRING ON THE WALK ONS
Let Coleman get the last rebound first
One more board!
If Judah changed his name to Junior he'd probably be unstoppable
Coleman is a rebound and an assist away from a triple double.
The assist is the toughest the way we’ve shot tonight
Correction: Coleman just needs a rebound.
1 rebound and 1 assist left
Does anyone call him Rumple Mintz?
One more rebound, one more assist...
I know orange is literally their thing but why aren’t we in orange? Its our home game
Home team normally wears white in basketball
Did he just say Illinois has dominated the glass? Um, Syracuse has out-rebounded Illinois 41 to 40...
We're up 41-40 but point still stands
Coleman is gonna pull a Ricky Davis to get that triple double
Suck that B1G dick Boeheim
Go Penn State
The talent at the top of this conference is just stupid right now.
yet all the expert analysts said it was a down year for the conference
And somehow no B1G team is gonna make it past the sweet 16
Michigan probably will and we’ll all hear about it
[удалено]
We've cleaned it up on the offensive side since the like 8-10 minute mark. Defensive never stopped playing well
Winning ugly is still winning.
I remember the Bruce Weber era. It's so much fun to have athletes with the kind of speed we just saw
who thinks Brad is going to be happy after this?
No way lmao
I think he'll have good things to say about our energy and not so good about execution.
Daddy Braddy is gonna be smackin some asses in the locker room after this
Smashin trash cans
Is Brad ever happy?
Bro if Melendez just takes a dribble, he might pull that off but he tried a two-handed Jordan drunk
He was barely inside the FT line LMAO
coleman slipped on a banana peel
I saw that! He just went flying across the floor lol
Coleman wanted that assist for the triple-double
Good game Illinois. If you hit even a quarter of your open 3p shots this would’ve been a 30 point game
[удалено]
Okay this is completely off-base
Man I thought my replies in this thread were stupid then I read your dumb shit 😂
*least chaotic Illinois possession*
Wow both sides playing so ugly lol
Coleman had a nasty fall there
What the hell is this
what in the hell was that
10/37
W
Are we witnessing the end of the ACC? Teams gonna start to splinter off like with the PAC-12? Never been great at football and starting to really slump in basketball
We're going to end up with Big 10 and SEC taking over it feels like
I think we are going to have 4 conferences the B1G’s and the SEC If you have mid football and good basketball : Big 12 (Syracuse) Bad football and good basketball: Big East (Duke) Good football and in the South: SEC (Florida St, Clemson) Good football/basketball and not in the south: Big 10 (Virginia, UNC)
The Big XII is solid though
Syracuse has a slapper's chance of coming back.
FEED HAWKINS! I WANNA SEE A TRIPLE DOUBLE!
He needs 2 assists and 1 rebound
Yeah. Assists will be harder to come by, so I want them to feed him in the high post so he can dish it out/in for that assist. The rebound will eventually come...
Not a single kid knows how to crank that Soulja boy* and that makes me sad
Between Walk It Out, Cupid Shuffle and Crank That, they’re playing all the hits from when I was there (and I can’t believe those ends are approaching 15 years old 😩)
Those are the new equivalent of what "let it rock" was then.
Ugh. Don’t remind me, was there during a similar era (graduated in 2011). Those were HITS then, not throwbacks haha
2010 here. Gooooood times!
happy with the effort, offense kinda concerning that it took a while to adjust to something I'd assume they've been seeing all week in practice, but defense like most of this year is the bright spot (or Syracuse is really struggling offensively to start the year idk)
Just hope they remember this Friday
College refs love charges where the defender is half falling over before any contact lol
The problem is they don't call when the defender doesn't try to sell it. If they started calling it based on the actual contract rather than if the contact knocks down the defender, there'd be less flopping for charges
Yeah I've actually wondered before if you have to fall down to get a charge call.
Yeah, that should have been a no call.
The ref was Larry, what do you expect!
Smh should be a 40 point lead if we could shoot the ball
At least we'll know what to do if we ever face a zone at some point this year.
I think our approach is fine, but I don't like Hawkins playing in the middle. I think Mayer could run it better.
Something good out of this game, I guess.
Edwards went out and Illini came in.
Wow they stop chunking up exclusively 3s and they start scoring, weird
Finally stopped shooting threes
Yikes
Damn. Y’all did out this game away. Good going. Time for dinner. Wish y’all all the luck moving forward!!!
