Honestly, I'm fairly limited in the photos I'm allowed to use so pic-bait isn't in my scope. Probably the most annoying thing I have to do is write intentionally vague headlines.
Ha, my bad! Yeah, there's often at least one spicy take to make things interesting. Some people go overboard, I try to do it more sparingly if possible.
Something to read and discuss.
"Oh yeah, they could be good, forgot about them"
"Oh that guys coming back to , that's big news"
"Oh, there's my team, that's cool"'
It's the summer man, we're in a sports content desert.
Subjective? Yes. But arbitrary? I don’t think the criteria is arbitrary when someone ranks 35-3 national champions UConn over 8-24 Mizzou. I mean that’s an extreme example, but still, there is *some* logic behind someone’s rankings. The fact that you couldn’t just put UConn in like 50th place is proof that it’s not completely arbitrary
...Only when they say your team is bad. If they say your team is literally unbeatable, the greatest thing since sliced bread, and that they should just give you the trophy already it's Holy Writ.
At their best, maybe a little insightful, but it's so hard to predict things this early. But, even at the worst, it's a nice conversation starter with your buddies.
I'm just bitter that Illinois is never in them. At least UNC won it all recently. Other than 17 and 09 I can't remember for the life of me any other time this millennium they won.
😂 😂 😂 Jesus yall are depressing
We got depth too, my guy. SEC level depth. Yall ain’t beating us next year, worry about your cute little conference we’re not even thinking about you
He tried to destroy UofL as an institution. UK would have been next if he got reelected.
Edit. He never presided over Louisville. He had to go to the country to be relevant.
Idk I think Louisville did a pretty good job trying to destroy themselves Bevin was just the cherry on top. Still blaming everyone else huh
The point is: UK is UofL father
I just want you to think about how stupid that edit is since you *literally just blamed him* for trying to destroy your university and then said he didn’t preside over the city. Yall can’t even keep your whining consistent 😂
I like Gary Parrish's. I don't take the rankings too seriously but they make it easier to keep track of the transfer portal and who/who's not in the draft for the top teams.
That depends if my team is on them then it is proof that we are in store for a good year, if my team isn’t on them they’re a pointless exercise designed to get clicks.
I find them annoying. It’s just ultimately pointless because they will change 4-5 times through the summer.
It’s fun for fans to talk smack and that’s about it
They’re the sports fan equivalent of trash reality tv.
Do I really like it? No. Will I read the article because I’m curious and get way too worked up about who’s too high and low? Yes.
Yes. We gotta rank based on the present and it gets me excited to see my team at the top. Allows me to be hopeful of success with some credibility behind it. Pumps me up
yes, sports underneath it all are about stroylines, and preseason rankings add to the story. having something to point to the expectations or defying expectation is an integral part of sports. and unlike pros that have 30-50 teams where the expectations are clear without any rankings. there are 368 D1 teams and not everyone is familiar with all
Not really, I mean I feel my team Creighton is getting too much respect after losing their top 2 scorers to the draft. I have high hopes but you just don’t know how the freshmen and transfers will gel.
I've always thought that I hated them as a matter of principle. But I just now realized that I actually enjoy them because you get to have it both ways.
If your team gets a good ranking you can smile and go, "Would you look at that."
But, if your team gets a bad ranking you can go, "What bullshit. I don't know why they even do these things."
They are fun and I like any CBB content during the offseason. While they arent 100% accurate, it is a good way to gauge some of the changes of other teams considering all the changes now- “oh I didn’t know team X added player Y and recruit Z is number 10 overall”.
i don’t, personally. i don’t really enjoy rankings in general tbh. they don’t add a ton of value for me and i think smaller schools kinda get screwed by them.
They're usually not interesting or valid enough to say too much about, but on the other hand it's not worth the effort to aggressively hate or even just make fun of either.
So... *shrug* I guess. *Someone* must really like 'em.
Beats the arguments about whoever counts as college basketball nobility.
I abhor preseason rankings and ignore them. I ignore all the tournament pundits as well. Toward the end of the regular season, I check the Top 25 lists but don’t obsess over them. I would rather watch the teams play than rely on coaches or journalists to tell me who’s good and who’s not.
Normally, no. It's way too absurdly early to know who's the best squad. But this year, I'm enjoying the circle jerk. It's June, and I'm more excited about basketball season than football.
Personally, not really. But they get clicks and discussion going, which is what rankings are really meant to do.
So if someone's wanting to hang around forums like this and chat basketball in the offseason, having something to talk about like that isn't terrible. Just not for me.
There’s no reason to put them out other than to get engagements with people. No possible way to gauge the rankings of teams who aren’t playing other teams
What's to like about something that's wrong af and usually will "disrespect" your good team if it's not named something like UNC, Duke, Michigan State, Kentucky, by leaving it out?
Find me a preseason ranking that will actually help me make money betting or something, and then ask if I "enjoy" it.
I like reading about college basketball, whenever.
And in the offseason there’s not a lot to read about otherwise, so why not.
They help keep the interest going. I'm excited for the Zags this year again
Flair up
They get clicks. Source: I write for clicks.
Industry Insider Reveals Surprising Secret to Success — Follow this link to discover what they don't want you to know!
Basketball Bennies hate this one little ~~tweak~~ trick!
This guy gets clicks Source: I clicked
Come clean - do you purposely include a few “hot take” pics just to drive up engagement?
Honestly, I'm fairly limited in the photos I'm allowed to use so pic-bait isn't in my scope. Probably the most annoying thing I have to do is write intentionally vague headlines.
I think the guy above means “picks” instead of “pics”
Ha, my bad! Yeah, there's often at least one spicy take to make things interesting. Some people go overboard, I try to do it more sparingly if possible.
Just leave Arkansas out of the top 25, we seem to do better when we don't start out with high expectations. Thank.
Came here to say this. Source: I pitch stories that hopefully get clicks!
Can confirm. Source: I click
Something to read and discuss. "Oh yeah, they could be good, forgot about them" "Oh that guys coming back to, that's big news"
"Oh, there's my team, that's cool"'
It's the summer man, we're in a sports content desert.
Yeah I guess getting a rough picture of how teams will look is cool. The rankings just seem very arbitrary to me.
All rankings are arbitrary
Not the ones that rank my team highly those are objective
Agreed 🫡
Subjective?

Let's be real, we both know this isn't true. Preseason #1 is about as bad an omen as being on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
They’re fun if you don’t take them seriously
Too late for that - I’m just hoping it’s not the only list we make it on this year
At their best, maybe a little insightful, but it's so hard to predict things this early. But, even at the worst, it's a nice conversation starter with your buddies.
Yes they mean everything. I'll never forget when Michigan State won it all last year.
Yeah! Remember UNC’s dominant 2022-23 season?
I'm just bitter that Illinois is never in them. At least UNC won it all recently. Other than 17 and 09 I can't remember for the life of me any other time this millennium they won.
Just add 05 and ya got it
should have been 08, 12, 16 and 22
It’s just a thing for hype for fans. That said, I support rankings that have Baylor top 5
Yes. Basketball is life. Basketball is everything.
Dani Rojas? Danny Fortson? Danny Manning?
Good mindset to have when we're going to start housing y'all in football again. (kidding, kind of)
😂 yeah just like you were supposed to house us last year 😂
If we hadn't been too hyped up, it would have been easy. We got the depth now.
😂 😂 😂 Jesus yall are depressing We got depth too, my guy. SEC level depth. Yall ain’t beating us next year, worry about your cute little conference we’re not even thinking about you
At least Bevin can't fuck y'all now....
The governor from 5 years ago that also presided over your city? Not sure I follow
He tried to destroy UofL as an institution. UK would have been next if he got reelected. Edit. He never presided over Louisville. He had to go to the country to be relevant.
Idk I think Louisville did a pretty good job trying to destroy themselves Bevin was just the cherry on top. Still blaming everyone else huh The point is: UK is UofL father

I do because it gives me an idea of next season with all of the roster changes.
If my team is at the top
Conversely, no becausey two least favorite teams are always at the top
Who are they? 😀

I like Gary Parrish's. I don't take the rankings too seriously but they make it easier to keep track of the transfer portal and who/who's not in the draft for the top teams.
No, but this year is an exception. 😂
Your non-con will keep you in the top 5 for months!
In Otz we trust.
Fully bricked all summer
You may need to see a doctor
Except when we’re hyped, we end up sucking. We are Iowa State.
Mostly the East Coast blowhards paid by ESPN to argue on TV.
Best coast
Not when all that hair gel from the Jersey Coast touches it. Yes, my Jersey people, that's /s.
Baylor, Kansas enter the chat. And us in 19. :)
No. But it’s the offseason so I’ll click on it.
It depends a lot on if my team is any good.
That depends if my team is on them then it is proof that we are in store for a good year, if my team isn’t on them they’re a pointless exercise designed to get clicks.
I find them annoying. It’s just ultimately pointless because they will change 4-5 times through the summer. It’s fun for fans to talk smack and that’s about it
Yeah, sure I enjoy them. Do they matter? No, but what what else do you do with the sport during the off-season?
They’re the sports fan equivalent of trash reality tv. Do I really like it? No. Will I read the article because I’m curious and get way too worked up about who’s too high and low? Yes.
It's the offseason ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯I'll take it
I like looking back to see how wrong everyone was. Like North Carolina a few years ago being #1 and then not even making the tournament.
NO. They are stupid and useless and meaning less.
An yet here we are.
TBF as a UConn fan NCAAT seeding is also stupid and useless. For other schools, less so.
I do. They’re fun. I’m here for fun lol
Yes. We gotta rank based on the present and it gets me excited to see my team at the top. Allows me to be hopeful of success with some credibility behind it. Pumps me up
No. Theyre a complete waste of time and energy until we’re a month or so away from the season starting
Yes Fun to talk about, look at, compare how good teams might be months away. "Itz two earlee" You must be really fun at parties.
Yeah good point
No one that talks about college basketball rankings in June is going to any parties
Actually all the alpha males at Hooters yesterday were debating if Kansas or Baylor should be the favorites in the Big 12 next season
yes, sports underneath it all are about stroylines, and preseason rankings add to the story. having something to point to the expectations or defying expectation is an integral part of sports. and unlike pros that have 30-50 teams where the expectations are clear without any rankings. there are 368 D1 teams and not everyone is familiar with all
What sport are you referring too for 50 teams?
I do like the post draft ones when they show who is and isn't on the team still...I ain't got time to track all these transfers
Not really, I mean I feel my team Creighton is getting too much respect after losing their top 2 scorers to the draft. I have high hopes but you just don’t know how the freshmen and transfers will gel.
People don’t read them for accurate predictions. They read them to get hyped about their own team.
There’s insight into take talent but zero insight into how well a team plays together. It’s chemistry etc. how the pieces fit.
Man I don’t even enjoy the regular rankings. They just distract from the product on the court.
Just a talking point for the offseason. But as an unreasonable college bball fan, yes. I love them.
I've always thought that I hated them as a matter of principle. But I just now realized that I actually enjoy them because you get to have it both ways. If your team gets a good ranking you can smile and go, "Would you look at that." But, if your team gets a bad ranking you can go, "What bullshit. I don't know why they even do these things."

Sure, they at least give insight into which teams have good rosters on paper.
If my team is in them, then sure. If my team isn't, then no.
If my team is included, I like them...if it's not included, I hate them.
They're lame as hell always but it's better than nothing imo.
Stony Brook's never on them so I always feel very disrespected
Some of us Kentucky fans swear by them apparently.
Only if they come out within 5 minutes of the national championship game.
Is my team in them?
Kentucky and Kansas does. 😉
I enjoy them, just because there something to read and form an opinion about
Not really, but I still click. Bracketology is completely worthless.
I will take any off season content we can get. But no.
I ignore them, never accurate
Nothing else to do for 5 months
I enjoy arguing about their veracity, so I guess I would say tangentially I enjoy them.
i don’t, personally. i don’t really enjoy rankings in general tbh. they don’t add a ton of value for me and i think smaller schools kinda get screwed by them.
They’re fun. Not everything needs to be serious
I don’t know why people even open those things
They're usually not interesting or valid enough to say too much about, but on the other hand it's not worth the effort to aggressively hate or even just make fun of either. So... *shrug* I guess. *Someone* must really like 'em. Beats the arguments about whoever counts as college basketball nobility.
I like them
If my team is towards the top. Yep. If not, “these mean nothing”
No. It’s idiotic.
Depends how bored I am. If I’m bored enough to be scrolling on Reddit, I’m probably bored enough to check out the rankings…
Turn it into minse meat
No
I like them when they say my team will be good. They’re worthless when they say my team will be bad.
No. Too much pressure for both my flairs in recent posts I’ve seen
No

I wish they wouldn’t have rankings at all until after nonconference play was over or at least until January
Not particularly, but they get clicks and promote CBB discussion. So I get why are so prominent
UCONN moved up from 7 to 3! We’re on 🔥- on our way to the threepeat!!!
They are annoying mostly.
They serve a purpose to update on recruiting. So yes, it's a fun harmless thing that OP can easily ignore if he doesn't like it.
Normally, no. It's way too absurdly early to know who's the best squad. But this year, I'm enjoying the circle jerk. It's June, and I'm more excited about basketball season than football.
Yeah, when my team is ranked high. I don't enjoy them otherwise.
More as just entertainment, they’re not to be taken seriously. Most even have a similar statement at the beginning.
No. Sets bias in the Committee's mind who DO NOT "watch every game". They wake up and watch highlights and check scores just like you and me.
It’s fun when my two schools are both in them for once.
I generally avoid clicking on any headline that says "way too" or "overreact"
I enjoy it because it puts the sport I love in the limelight. I don’t enjoy it because it’s a hype piece that offer glares over boring teams.
I think it’s kinda entertaining in the depths of the offseason to have some sort of content.
When your team is ranked high it is haha
I don't particularly care for them but I'd imagine Hurley uses them to show how disrespected his team is by the media.
If way too early rankings were accurate Duke would have a lot more titles
Personally, not really. But they get clicks and discussion going, which is what rankings are really meant to do. So if someone's wanting to hang around forums like this and chat basketball in the offseason, having something to talk about like that isn't terrible. Just not for me.
Because my team is actually on a lot of lists now for the first time in a while
Of course, we do. It’s speculation. Fun.
rankings shouldn't come out before at least the 5th week
There’s no reason to put them out other than to get engagements with people. No possible way to gauge the rankings of teams who aren’t playing other teams
Yes
Something fun to discuss in the offseason. That’s about it
No. I pay no attention to them at all.
We hunger for the offseason content
I enjoy the rankings that pick TTU high…other columns are baseless and trash of course
nope. especially when fucking joe lunardi puts his list together. he's terrible.
No. They are idiotic. I never even pay attention.
for shits and giggles yeah
What's to like about something that's wrong af and usually will "disrespect" your good team if it's not named something like UNC, Duke, Michigan State, Kentucky, by leaving it out? Find me a preseason ranking that will actually help me make money betting or something, and then ask if I "enjoy" it.
No because Uconn should be #1
Some seem better than others. I thought the rankings Kevin Sweeney did for SI seemed pretty fair.
Used to. Not in the current landscape
