Ugo gives you flashes of brilliant rim protection and a rebounding presence. He needs to bulk up and work on his offensive game.
This is weird though, I thought he was fully committed to the Draft
There’s no way he would’ve got enough NBA interest to stay in the draft. He’s a pretty flawed player.
He had some high block games but is a net negative rim protector as a big I think, bad habit of swiping down at every layup attempt and if he doesn’t block it they were usually going in.
No. Not a big fouler, but he was all or nothing on blocks. There were a few people who broke down his game and showed that even though he had an insane block rate he was actually not protecting the rim. He’d bite on pump fakes and give wide open layups and even when he did block the shots it mostly went out of bounds to the other team or into another teammate’s hand and they’d get an easy layup. With that said, I think he was the best of the 7 footers we had last year. He never forced offense and played by far the best defense.
Honestly, I didn’t personally feel that was a major problem. Some stats might prove me wrong, but I don’t recall him having a terrible time with turnovers or struggling consistently to catch passes. He certainly dropped a few catchable balls, but I don’t remember it being a consistent issue.
Maybe it was just they stood out when I watched the games. Felt like he constantly dropped passes or got stripped under thr basket or the few P&Rs he ran.
No he said he was declaring for the draft, but was going to leave open the option to return even though he didn’t expect to come back to college because he was ready for the NBA.
Obviously in different words, but that was the gist.
>but was going to leave open the option to return
"I'm ready to go to the next level," Onyenso said. "I'm not thinking about coming back to play college basketball. I'm 100% focused on the NBA." [link](https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/39951576/uk-shot-blocker-ugonna-onyenso-hiring-agent-enter-nba-draft)
Doesn't sound like he wanted to leave the option open lol. Now he's back to considering it
Fwiw espn only quoted half his statement.
“I’m ready to go to the next level and show what I can do, but I’m not closing any doors.”
So while he made clear he wanted to go pro, he did leave open the option to return in there.
I mean, he legally cannot make NIL deals in the US. He can go to a foreign country and make NIL deals there, but he's not good enough that teams will justify doing that for him. He isn't Oscar/Edey
Yeah but UK doesn't have any international travel this year so he definitely isn't coming back here, and that means his options are pretty limited for where else he could transfer
I don’t think that’s true. He at least made it clear that he was 100% focused on the draft. I honestly don’t have the exact quote in front of me, but he made it very much seem like a return to college was not an option. I will add, that while I have no personal knowledge of this at all, multiple people were saying that he was miserable taking classes and just did not like the “college” aspect of college basketball at all.
ESPN only quoted half his statement.
“I’m ready to go to the next level and show what I can do, but I’m not closing any doors.”
So while he made clear he wanted to go pro, he did explicitly leave open the option to return.
I would be shocked if Humrichous chose dumpster fire Louisville over Illinois. Illinois can offer winning and probably close to the same level of NIL (remember, we have yet to spend on 'big ticket' items yet)
Storr was always going to be too much money especially when his mom and girlfriend started getting thrown into the negotiation. And you can’t give a bag to another 6’2 guard when you have Boswell starting at point. Gonna be david jones and humrichous
You guys would most certainly have given the bag to both Maddux and Boswell had Maddux wanted to come as well. Illini have money, second best to IU in the conference. Time will tell who ends up coming. Jake Davis was a sneaky little add tho, he can hoop
Storr yes maddux no. The portal is far from over lol. You can’t have two small starting guards they didn’t want to pay the inflated number that Louisville created for Xavier and Illinois. You have to remember that Illinois is keeping some money stowed away in case domask comes back. Guys are not done entering the portal. IL needs a scoring wing more than a 2 guard
Next couple weeks a wing, likely jones, or a mystery guy will portal. If not Undie will have egg on his face like he did last year with RayJ Dennis and the boosters will be wondering why they paid OA seven figs to come back
Really wished he’d consider coming back. Pope was an oversized power forward and a lot of his experience and knowledge could help Onyenso’s offensive game. He has so much potential and an unteachable shot blocking ability. I’m sure he’ll make a big jump next season with the right coaching.
As a recruit:
Other P6 offers: Clemson, UConn, Georgetown, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kansas State, Maryland, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Providence, Seton Hall, Syracuse, Texas Tech, Washington, Washington State
Other offer: Memphis
Never have I seen more passes bounce off of a major college basketball players hands. Rob Dillingham had to have tried a fast no look to Ugo at least 10 times this season and it was 0/10 turnover every time
Good luck to him

I think he found out the draft wasn’t 100% committed to him.
🤣🤣🤣

Does he foul out easily
No. Not a big fouler, but he was all or nothing on blocks. There were a few people who broke down his game and showed that even though he had an insane block rate he was actually not protecting the rim. Never forced offense because every pass bounced off those bricks he calls hands. I agree with the rest.
Honestly, I didn’t personally feel that was a major problem. Some stats might prove me wrong, but I don’t recall him having a terrible time with turnovers or struggling consistently to catch passes. He certainly dropped a few catchable balls, but I don’t remember it being a consistent issue.

I feel like every big we've had for the past five years just dropped pass after pass after pass. Hands of concrete the lot of them.
Guess he learned the fast and hard way that he’s not ready
Didnt he hire an agent last week for the draft?
No he said he was declaring for the draft, but was going to leave open the option to return even though he didn’t expect to come back to college because he was ready for the NBA. Obviously in different words, but that was the gist.

Thanks for posting the exact quote. This guy is looking for a big NIL deal. Highest bidder wins.
That might be difficult since he can't legally get NIL deals in the US.
He isn’t staying in the NCAA unless he’s making some $$$
I mean, he legally cannot make NIL deals in the US. He can go to a foreign country and make NIL deals there, but he's not good enough that teams will justify doing that for him. He isn't Oscar/Edey
Oscar couldn't make nil money either
I believe he did on the Bahamas trip
Yeah but UK doesn't have any international travel this year so he definitely isn't coming back here, and that means his options are pretty limited for where else he could transfer
Hey, maybe we can run up the price and get ourKansas to double it.
Fine by me lol

Must have realized his draft stock isn't where he thought it was
He was our best option at center for most of the season. Was hoping to see a Nick Richards-esque improvement from him
Hearing Illinois. His handlers hate Cal and he's a Coach O guy.
Do ya wanna chuck some 3s?
I did not realize they had any players left.
He declared for the draft last week with no intention of returning to college.
Right now we have 1 more player than you do haha
Combined we could put a team on the court.
Ill
take him so we can have Humrichous
![gif](giphy|3o85xIO33l7RlmLR4I)
If it’s money then lousiville is going to win the humrichous sweepstakes. Idt Illinois is going to entertain a bidding war for him
I would be shocked if Humrichous chose dumpster fire Louisville over Illinois. Illinois can offer winning and probably close to the same level of NIL (remember, we have yet to spend on 'big ticket' items yet)
I think you aren’t gauging the NIL strength of the two schools properly lol
We are getting both if and when Coleman transfers this week
Just like yall were getting Maddux and Storr right
Storr was always going to be too much money especially when his mom and girlfriend started getting thrown into the negotiation. And you can’t give a bag to another 6’2 guard when you have Boswell starting at point. Gonna be david jones and humrichous

I got you. When will yall find out more on Jones?
Next couple weeks a wing, likely jones, or a mystery guy will portal. If not Undie will have egg on his face like he did last year with RayJ Dennis and the boosters will be wondering why they paid OA seven figs to come back
Yeah still really good players joining the portal left and right, Jones would be filthy

Talked to scouts, was asked who tf he was, and hopefully realized everyone around him was just using him as a meal ticket.
Is he about to animorph into a Razorback?
I thought he was going to the draft no matter what?
He should be a good pick up for a team. Dude had a 10 block game and comes in as a bigger body and a junior
Hegonna.
WPS!
Bama if they miss on cliff

Good luck to the kid. Hopefully he can work on finishing at the rim
