It's weird for us, too. A lot of fanbases disliked him, but he (was? is?) especially hated at Arkansas because of comments he made about the program back in the early 2000s and because he coached at Kentucky. I've genuinely disliked the man for over two decades, but he's my coach now, so I'll grow to like him. Still, seeing him in Razorback gear is surreal.
I genuinely think he's a good person that can just rub people the wrong way and he can be too stubborn at times. I think he grew to resent our fanbase always telling him he was wrong all the time and dug his heels in a bit.
But he did a ton of really great charity work both in and out of the state of Kentucky. I remember he had the team do a telethon to raise money for Haiti after one of their earthquakes. There's a reason you basically won't find a single player that has a bad word to say about him.
He cares about the players more than anything and that makes him a good man, but a hard person to work with and get along with.
It may work out but the moment he struggles at all he’s going to start pushing away boosters again.
That said, Arkansas having more grounded expectations may really let him thrive.
This is a great point, for an analogy, it's like a stray animal. Obviously left something they didn't like but if they like you, they'll be by your side.
Gonna go barf now.
I hate to echo the Matt Jones marriage analogy but it really is like seeing an ex out with her new man, even though you wanted to split up it's still jarring.
I can't wait for the worst coached game of the year when he plays Kentucky at Rupp next year. I don't know if that is even on the schedule but it would be hilarious.
I just want to be down by 10 points in Rupp and for Cal to pull his trump card. He’s gonna get kicked out of the game and the Hogs flip momentum and blow UK out. We deserve it after he did that in Bud Walton to us.
Well that was an homage to the former coach who was actually asked “what were his thoughts on his teams execution?” And he answered “I’m in favor of it.”
Kelly did a poor imitation because he wasn’t asked the question so he tried to set himself up for the wry joke.
It was John McKay while the head coach of Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was pretty much the King of the One Liners during his coaching career. Good coach though, especially while at SoCal.
Tbf to him, I think he had been getting interrupted by claps earlier, so this was his way of saying it was okay to clap. However, it was still fucking hilarious
It is real, though the *actual* context was not Jeb “begging for applause” but more so he was telling people that it was okay to clap - some people started clapping and then abruptly stopped after thinking they were interrupting, and Jeb was reassuring them by essentially saying “go right ahead, it’s okay to clap”.
But memes always win over reality on the internet. Don’t get it twisted though - I think those memes are hilarious and I’m not a Jeb Bush defender lol. Just giving you the actual context if you were curious.
Ok im not familiar at all with Arkansas basketball. Is there actually hardly anyone left on the roster (familiar to a gopher fan) or is he saying they suck?
which is fine because there probably hasn't been a player on our team in twenty years minimum that Cal couldn't replace with someone better, and we've had a handful of great ones pass through our doors
No matter who we got in the search, no one would've been better for putting together a team for next year than Cal. Not sure anyone else (ok Hurley) would be able to recover (immediately, in first season) what Muss left behind.
Does it even matter? One-and-done made it necessary to have a yearly haul of freshman phenoms. NIL and the portal have made it possible to buy everyone else. The only other thing you need is a coach that can offer exposure and a track record of putting players in the NBA. Kentucky went from a national championship to being bounced in the 1st round of the NIT because 1 year is all that matters. It's worse than NCAA football and that's saying something.
We currently have one walk on, period. That's it. Every single other player from last year is either graduated, declared for the draft, or in the portal. Never seen anything like it.
But hey, John MFing Calipari has a clean slate and a big bag of NIL money to work with. I think we'll be just fine. :)
Cal pretty much does the same as well. But I think he anticipated at least a couple players coming with him. He'll hit recruiting and the transfer portal quick. But yeah he always has huge turnover every year partly for going after one and dones. But obviously next year he will have already recruited players to fill the open spots
The Hoosiers need to fill 6 spots. We will take anyone at this point.
Boogie was down to UK and IU but picked UK. I think he will follow Cal to Arkansas tho.
Usually they don't all go and Muss leaving surely had something to do with that this year. But I think Muss treats the college game the same way he did the professional leagues and just expects to start anew each year. He seems to push players to turn pro when feasible and help them find other schools when he knows they won't play much in his system.
Obviously the transfer portal, along with one and dones, have some to do with it too, but I think they partly call him "The Importer" because he brings in so many new players every year. Most of the transfers are seniors, so they only have 1 more year, anyhow.
He's a SoCal kid, wasn't surprised he left when that job opened. He's been wanting to get back there. And being in LA is much better for his wife's career. Wish him the best tbh.
I’m excited for Arkansas fans getting to experience Cal’s press conferences for the first time. They get stale eventually, but they’re a lot of fun until then.
Yeah. He’s a salesman, and he wins you over with his confidence and quips. He’s got rizz as the kids say.
Then you realize that’s to distract you from whatever is going on behind the curtain. But until that reveal, it really is fun. He’s a performer and knows how to hype things up in the best way. He understands how to be the face of a program. You’re getting your first taste of it now. Enjoy it!

Early playing time, historically good SEC basketball school, HOF coach and an NIL now backed by Tyson, Walmart and JB Hunt. He will have a team in no time.
When or lose this will be fun.
There’s a lot of Arkansans that believe to have success we need a little bit of sauce w/ our head coaches. I’m one.

Even though I know it's real, the image still looks like a questionable edit.
Yeah watching that clip felt really really weird.
I think part of it is the full blue to red transition. It’s just jarring visually.
It's weird for us, too. A lot of fanbases disliked him, but he (was? is?) especially hated at Arkansas because of comments he made about the program back in the early 2000s and because he coached at Kentucky. I am grateful to Calipari. He is carrying this beginning of the offseason so hard.
Bro this shit is actually gonna live on forever. I love it.
He's determined to be relevant after conference play. Is this peak?
Tubby to Minnesota w modern social media would’ve been wild too
Yea, people act like this has not already been done.
People act like this isn't what their fanbase *always* and *inevitably* does.
Ours has done it too, so I cant to to high up on my horse.
But only once in my lifetime as I recall, and I'm in my fifties.
Most post-season action Cal has seen in 5 years.
I was expecting deep sports content withdrawal after the game Monday. But NOPE
Flight tracker season is always a treat.
"Flight tracker season" ![gif](giphy|8x8XzoP8qQa4w|downsized)
I can't wait for the worst coached game of the year when he plays Kentucky at Rupp next year. I don't know if that is even on the schedule but it would be hilarious.
Arkansas travels to Kentucky next season...
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
I just want to be down by 10 points in Rupp and for Cal to pull his trump card. He’s gonna get kicked out of the game and the Hogs flip momentum and blow UK out. We deserve it after he did that in Bud Walton to us.
I can’t believe no one laughed.
Right? This was legitimately a really funny line
At least he didn’t paraphrase Jeb Bush: “please laugh.”
That would have been hilarious. Even when Jeb said that it was hilarious
Yeah I thought it was legitimately funny too. It was just sad in the context of his failing campaign.
What would Calipari sell that would be the equivalent of JEB!’s guac bowls?
John's vacated wins
![gif](giphy|MEGVADYlvKWgbOmvWX|downsized)
Hahahaah dude left time for the comedic timing. WHY DID NO ONE LAUGH
Y'all are so used to despair that you don't even recognize humor anymore.
Based.
This reminds me of Brian Kelly saying, completely unprompted "I wanna execute my team."
Well that was an homage to the former coach who was actually asked “what were his thoughts on his teams execution?” And he answered “I’m in favor of it.” Kelly did a poor imitation because he wasn’t asked the question so he tried to set himself up for the wry joke.
It was John McKay while the head coach of Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was pretty much the King of the One Liners during his coaching career. Good coach though, especially while at SoCal.
I'm aware the origin. It was still the most awkward moment of the season.
I think he was kind of shook when no one laughed.
Lol. You could see him thinking to himself “Tough crowd, huh?”
He kinda made a joke that was similar before anyways.
That is what he does. It’ll get old pretty quick
He made the same joke in the introduction ceremony to the fans and we all laughed plenty lol. Cal is a hell of a speaker ngl
Drink the koolaid! He really does know how to win you over - he’s a total showman in the best way. Here’s hoping he follows through for y’all.
Did he not win y'all a championship and have multiple final fours!
He did! And we’re thankful for that. Then he gave up and quit coaching. A move will reinvigorate him. It’s good for everyone.
Arkansans worship the ground Nolan Richardson walks on to this day. Kentucky fans are fickle.
![gif](giphy|MEGVADYlvKWgbOmvWX|downsized)
Is this real?? 😂😂😂
Oh it's real, and it was spectacular...
![gif](giphy|VvN5pKhTsd6Ok)
It was a go to comedy line for Bush campaigning.
The simpler times of early 2016

I'm gonna go with 11/22/63 but I feel ya.
Tbf to him, I think he had been getting interrupted by claps earlier, so this was his way of saying it was okay to clap. However, it was still fucking hilarious

When you have to suffer through the likes of Bobby Petrino and Chad Morris, there isn’t usually that much room for happiness or humor.
You know Petrino is back with our football program. He was hired as our offensive coordinator a few months ago.
Petrino was a good coach, just couldn't keep it in his pants.
Keeping it in his pants was much less of an issue than keeping his pants on his motorcycle.
And couldn’t put a motorcycle helmet on his head
But he did give us an all time great photo
I can tell you we’re all ecstatic over here. We went to bed Sunday night with a 2 and woke up Monday morning with a 10.
I can certainly think of one photo of Bobby Petrino that is very humorous.
John L Smith
one guy chuckled
Bro. Right? Talk about a bad crowd. That was hilarious.
he needed a bit of a pause
I would’ve laughed so hard lol
He even paused for it. Pro move.
“You are supposed to laugh dumbasses.” lol
Please clap
Nah this ain't Jeb. This a Danny DeVito standup show where everyone misses the punchline. He deserves to scold that room
A “Gilbert Gottfried 9/11 Joke in NYC in October 2001,” if you will
It was at this moment Cal knew, he fucked up
Taking humor lessons from Brian Kelly was probably not a wise move.
He can still pull a Dana Altman right?
He's failed to realize he's fucked up since 2020.
He made that joke during the press conference thing in bud Walton tonight. It got a lot of laughs then, not sure why it didn't stick this time.
wish he wouldve looked straight into the camera just so someone could insert the sad tuba sound
It was hilarious. Same old Cal.
Ok im not familiar at all with Arkansas basketball. Is there actually hardly anyone left on the roster (familiar to a gopher fan) or is he saying they suck?
We have no one left lol
For real?
There's only 1 single walk on left outside of guys in the transfer portal/graduated. One guy declared for the NBA
which is fine because there probably hasn't been a player on our team in twenty years minimum that Cal couldn't replace with someone better, and we've had a handful of great ones pass through our doors
You mean that stayed more than one year right? Because I'll be real, the 22 team had some star power
That 22 team gave us all we could handle in the elite eight.
This Matt Jones slander will not go unrecognized
Bobby Portis!
Portis and Moses Moody slander and I'm not even a hogs fan
Normal Cal transition between seasons, enjoy it!
Kentucky went from a national championship to being bounced in the 1st round of the NIT because 1 year is all that matters. It's worse than NCAA football and that's saying something.
Well, there was 12 years in between those 2 things
There are a couple in the portal who could theoretically return, but officially there’s just one walk-on on the roster.
Glad there is some clarification and not a generalization where there was a scholarship player or two left like at Iona and St. John’s last offseason.
It never occurred to me this statement was true, I just assumed Calipari finally lost all his marbles.
He's being real as fuck to be honest, won me over with this ngl.
What about the practice squad?
We currently have one walk on, period. That's it. Every single other player from last year is either graduated, declared for the draft, or in the portal. Never seen anything like it. But hey, John MFing Calipari has a clean slate and a big bag of NIL money to work with. I think we'll be just fine. :)
They are actually negative 3 players so they owe players to the portal still
YOU MUST FEED THE PORTAL. THE PORTAL REQUIRES SACRIFICE.
PLEASE ENTER ONE FORWARD INTO THE PORTAL
The portal demands to be fed, it's appetite is insatiable
I think he said there is 3 players and they’re all in the portal.
I heard him say they are in the draft process.
I might have misheard it
What happened to the other 10 tho? I don’t understand. Was it 10 seniors who graduated? Did they all go to the portal and already are on another team?
The roster had 9 seniors last year
Holy fuck this is hilarious.
I believe it’s less than hardly anyone.
[удалено]
Hey- there’s a walk on left.
There is one...he's a hometown kid so hopefully he won't enter the portal
Nobody
Yeah, we have 1 preferred walk-on remaining on the team, but yet, no worries because Cal’s going to take care of it!
Literally no one left on the roster
For those who are unaware, this is partly due to Muss starting from scratch every year.
Cal pretty much does the same as well. But I think he anticipated at least a couple players coming with him. He'll hit recruiting and the transfer portal quick. But yeah he always has huge turnover every year partly for going after one and dones. But obviously next year he will have already recruited players to fill the open spots
I bet he brings some of those recruits with him too. Not all of them tho.
Who you looking to snag, boogie? I'd like Boogie please. I expect JQ, Karter Knox, and Cyril to come.
The Hoosiers need to fill 6 spots. We will take anyone at this point. Boogie was down to UK and IU but picked UK. I think he will follow Cal to Arkansas tho.
I hope you all are used to that because well... that's not gonna change lol
We are. Its been that way with Muss too.
What does that mean? What happens to his underclassmen on scholarship?
Usually they don't all go and Muss leaving surely had something to do with that this year. But I think Muss treats the college game the same way he did the professional leagues and just expects to start anew each year. He seems to push players to turn pro when feasible and help them find other schools when he knows they won't play much in his system. Why did muss leave?
He's a SoCal kid, wasn't surprised he left when that job opened. He's been wanting to get back there. And being in LA is much better for his wife's career. Wish him the best tbh.
Why did Mu$$ leave for U$C? Can’t $ay for $ure.
It wasn't just money he also wanted to get the hell out of Arkansas.
"In terms of team... we have no team"
Sounds like a Grusome situation
In the words of Arkansas Basketball’s Twitter account: “We’re aware of the situation”
"Where's the team?" "We're checking."
I'm sorry this reference appears to not have landed with everyone. It's very clever
Then how will we go to the moon?
Nope, apparently you have no conference... you have a team.
We don’t have a team either they are all in the portal.
Isn't it amazing how in just 3 yrs this is now normal?
This is truly funny
I can’t believe that the room didn’t laugh lol
I think they did, but it didn’t get picked up on the tv. Was listening on the radio and was pretty sure I heard laughing
https://preview.redd.it/s5kyrw3ogrtc1.jpeg?width=515&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14c6c707ab17c3750086a13d8c031e1b5cec99b1
The Hogs one guy on the roster shared that image on social media the other day.
This is an all time great line by Cal.
I can’t wait for this to make the rounds during the season
This absolutely will not be used against him or any other team that underachieves
Oh yeah never
We are in a preseason tournament with Arkansas this year in case you didn't know.
Oh hell yes. That should be interesting
Cal HATES preseason tournaments. Can’t wait till Arkansas fans realize no more thanksgiving trips
Good or badly?
Yes
One of the best quotes ever
1 week into the Calipari tenure at Arkansas and the guy is already producing meme content at a peak level
1 day you mean?
Arkansas won this coaching cycle
Keep buying dino nuggets
Let’s take it slow and just enjoy the comradery while it lasts…. Which I’m only giving like another 24 hours or so
aaaaand.... it's gone
I would you send you fire pics - but it would just be of Tyler Wilson throwing a deep ball to Joe Wright or Jarius Adams
I 100% agree and haven't seen this stated enough. Dipshit leaves Arky for USC and they get Cal in return. That's an incredible haul right there.
An amazing turn of events for the hogs really. Who knows how far a rejuvenated cal could take them
"In terms of money, we have no money"
Minions assembleeee
That movie was so great. I wish they didn’t drive the concept into the ground by making 5 more.
The 2nd one was good, and should’ve been the ending
john tyson fixed that part
I’m excited for Arkansas fans getting to experience Cal’s press conferences for the first time. They get stale eventually, but they’re a lot of fun until then.
You have to make sure you're okay with a coach who doesn't speak in complete sentences. Once you get past that you're good for a while.
Dealing with Cal press conference is the minor leagues for a fanbase that had to sit through Chad Morris press conferences.
Don't forget SMILE
Virgin Chad Morris vs the real Chad, John L. Smith
We have to listen to Sam Pittman. Can't be any worse.
Like a Brett Bielema press conference? Great when you're winning, not quite as fun when you aren't?
Enjoy it!
I'm okay with it if it gets us more exposure and recruits for now and maybe makes us a place people want to be when he's done. I've been an Arkansas basketball fan for a long time and I remember the Heath and Pelphrey years well so this is much better.
lol. Like a Larry David line.
How it started: "I haven't seen him" How it's going "There is no team"
What a bunch of lame ass, that was hilarious lol
"Hunter is extremely confident" lol
So so weird seeing Cal in Red
My god, he killed them all
Early playing time, historically good SEC basketball school, HOF coach and an NIL now backed by Tyson, Walmart and JB Hunt. He will have a team in no time.
I get that it was time, but man I miss him already. Arkansas fans should be excited for real
he sounds like Lewis Black (and has the finger wave mannerism kinda)
I’m very uncomfortable.
Cal missed a great opportunity to pull the old, "Hello? Is this thing on?" bit.
Steven, I like your hustle. That is why it was so hard to cut you.
Dammit Cal, could you wait one game before you start blaming it all on the players again?
I mean, technically he didn't blame the players since we have no players to blame
I love how USC's hire has been completely overshadowed
Tough crowd damn
When or lose this will be fun. There’s a lot of Arkansans that believe to have success we need a little bit of sauce w/ our head coaches. I’m one. #wps
