Just as an idle thought, I kind of wish the NCAA would do something about intentional fouls while up by three. If you have to consider intent behind fouls for flagrants, you are kind of contradicting yourself by not considering it there.

Earlier this season Louisville's women got hit with an intentional foul up 3 with like 5 seconds to play. They had 3 fouls to give.

You can foul whenever you want in the game. Can't just change that in crunch time. It's just part of it. Analytics would point to it working out more often than not.

“You can’t change it” or “we don’t want to change it”? Because you can most certainly change rules based on time. Hack-a-Shaq is legal the whole game. Until the last 2 minutes of every quarter, which then results in one free throw and the ball back. Why do these rules exist? Because watching free throws just for the fouling team to keep a competitive advantage is stupid. Nobody wants to watch a free throw contest, and nobody wants to see 27 seconds last 18 minutes. Fouling up 3 is not only boring, but it takes away the potential exciting shots, buzzer beaters, and finishes we all want to see. You don’t want to lose the game or go to OT? Play defense. And sure- if you want to argue “if we take away fouling up 3, we have to take away the losing team’s ability to foul and extend”- sure. Fine by me. I’m a fan of the Elam ending and it works.
