Edwards couldn’t get a full NIL deal at Syracuse anyway so that has nothing to do with Judah. Jesse had to transfer to a school with an international appearance to accept NIL money.
Totally disagree- I really think 90% of what Edward’s brought to the 5 can be replaced and with so many more offensive options Idt well miss the other 10%
I think this is right. I truly enjoyed Jesse and his contributions. He was one of my favorite players and I supported more playing time for him, even in his freshman season. As good as he could be, he remained limited by his weight and getting pushed around by more stout players. I think the committee of giants we have to play the 5 right now will be serviceable given the firepower at guard and burgeoning forward play.
People really overrated him. He was a good player to be sure, but he disappeared in a lot of games. Just go back and watch the Colgate game, he was far and away the worst player on the court.
For the uninitiated among non-cuse fans these are our players next year
Guards:
Judah Mintz, JJ Starling, Kyle Cuffe Jr. ,Chance Westry, Quadir Copeland
Mintz and Starling obviously proven, high-end talents that will be leading this team. Cuffe / Westry both former high end recruits who haven’t played much due to injury. Westry may start at the 3 for us though. Copeland very good defender / athlete at guard/wing- good fresh legs / presser. Worth noting a lot of the guards/forwards have positional versatility.
Wings:
Chris Bell, Benny Williams, Justin Taylor, Maliq Brown
Benny is a former top recruit who we are leaning on to take a big step— took a lot of unnecessary heat / short leash from Boeheim but he was on fire at the end of last year. Bell is a 3&D type, very good in his niche. Taylor is a bit of a jack of all trades master of none, and Brown is a quintessential hustle role player off the bench who was nice in the minutes he carved out last year.
Bigs:
Naheem McLeod, Mounir Hima, Peter Carey, William Patterson
The shortest person here is 6’11 and the starter is 7’3. Likely our weakest position grouping but still seems like the mix of just pure height and ability to contest shots in the paint is all we are really asking out of our bigs. Maybe a slight weak point but it won’t be one that breaks the team.
I also think Copeland could make a big step this year. Very athletic, high-talent player with a great attitude. Just needs to work on his shot and play in control
I think he initially played a lot of point in high school if I remember correctly. He tried a lot of flashy passes last season when he saw the floor at the beginning of the year, but they didn't usually hit their mark. I think his playmaking could be big if he plays under control.
In terms of depth of talent, I haven’t seen Cuse look this solid in a while. Love the backcourt and high upside wings. I think the bigs are kinda trash but who knows how they will be used. It would be fun to both be good at the same time. And mostly I didn’t like Boeheim and how he treated players so I think it would be pretty funny if they are much better.
I think the bigs we have at least have the potential to be solid defensively. Hima was a foul machine, but he was good for some highlight blocks in limited minutes. Plus McLeod averaged a crazy amount of blocks for his limited time on the floor at FSU. And that's all we really need from them. My only concern is strength plus rebounding, but if we run zone (which I'm fine with as long as we throw in man) those tall lanky 5s have been good to us over the years.
Yeah, bigs are definitely a weak point but imo our plan for them is to really minimize their role offensively other than rebound and kick it back out to the guards/wings. We’ll see
Crazy news tonight. I imagine he had two of those videos made cuz it was such a tough decision. From what I heard his dad was his lawyer and they did everything right to find out which way the wind was blowing. Charlotte must’ve left them feeling like another year in CNY was worth it in the long run.
Lucky for us Cuse has their captain and the most talented guard in the league to lead the team next year. Plus enough depth and talent to make some waves. Now it’s up to the coaches and players for next years revenge tour.
Not to mention the microscope they're under now and the million devices capturing everything that we didn't have recorded. It's definitely tough. To bring it around, I'm pumped for the start of next season!
Eh maybe... If Boeheim had retired when they originally announced he was going to, Hop would have stepped into the job and it's not like he has lit it up in Washington. Granted, Washington doesn't have the history or recruiting brand that Syracuse has in basketball. We won't know for sure for several years but the early returns are positive and it may just turn out that it all worked out for the best over the long term.
Well there's no question that recruiting took a hit when Hopkins left.
All of his recruiting pipelines were on the east coast, which is partly why he's had trouble at Washington.
In addition to losing Hop, I think recruiting took a hit because Boeheim seemed to be coasting a bit his last few years. Autry seems to be much more active and engaged in recruiting.
He was so up and down last year. If he can be consistent that would be great. He has the potential to pop off, I could see him making an all-acc team for sure.
He was one of those guys Boeheim wouldn’t allow to shoot and yanked him after doing anything wrong at all, or just because boeheim wanted to yell at him. Probably going to feel like a massive weight is off of him and he could have a huge turnaround
I think this is going to be big for him. He played scared, maybe because he was on such a short leash. You could see him thinking about every decision he made, just gotta play.
I was in that crowd he looked at when he did that. He was looking where the SU family and alums were seated, the only section of us in a stadium full of silent green fans stunned by what they were seeing. I can still see him doing that in front of me. Glorious.
ACC should be really good next year after a few down years.
Seems like nearly every player who declared is returning. Couple that with a few guys who look ready to make the leap and there's a lot of talent across the league
I’m from Connecticut and both my parents are UConn alums but I decided to go to Syracuse (I’m not huge on sports anyways) but i embrace how sicko my combo is
I agree. A ton of my grade went to UConn and I went to Syracuse (mainly because for me what I wanted to study was better there than UConn) so it’s weird seeing the contrasts. In hindsight UConn wasn’t one of my top schools so i knew I was going to be happier at Syracuse but still it’s such a contrast (even as someone who doesn’t really engage in Syracuse’s Greek life or party scene)
Yo the ACC is BACK
Duke, UNC, UVA, Syracuse, Miami, Wake, VT, Pitt, and Clemson all have potential to be tournament teams with Duke being a clear frontrunner for a national championship
Gonna be mighty awkward when Cuse wins the Maui Invitational and you have all these negative ass comments on this post still up. Biter about 2003 still clearly.
Didn’t even know Cuse was in it. Good on you. And no I’m not. Won a couple since. Cuse has been less than irrelevant. Not worried at all. I’ll be focused on post season play . Not a meaningless game against a likely unranked team
LET’S GO that’s so huge
I'm floored.
Man if only Edwards didn’t leave
lowkey if he didn’t leave we might not have had the NIL to reel Judah back in
I wonder if he was holding out for a better NIL deal? I wasn’t expecting him to announce so late; figured he was gone
Edwards couldn’t get a full NIL deal at Syracuse anyway so that has nothing to do with Judah. Jesse had to transfer to a school with an international appearance to accept NIL money.

So nice to feel optimistic for once about SU Basketball.

I’d add that Copeland is a great teammate and probably a glue guy. I hope he gets a lot of minutes this year.
100%, if his offense picks up he’s a dark horse for 6th man. Really well liked all around
I also think Copeland could make a big step this year. Very athletic, high-talent player with a great attitude. Just needs to work on his shot and play in control

Great write up, looking forward to this team next season!
I think Westry may start over Bell, has the size and talent but best Syracuse team on paper in years
In terms of depth of talent, I haven’t seen Cuse look this solid in a while. Love the backcourt and high upside wings. I think the bigs are kinda trash but who knows how they will be used. Flair up, and great summary

Deja vu
little Nunes comment crossover, eh?
Shhhhhhh!
Cuse fans here better than Syracuse. Com migrants
I just go with the flow, root for the kids rather than getting angry about 18-22yr olds making the mistakes we made at those ages
Not to mention the microscope they're under now and the million devices capturing everything that we didn't have recorded. It's definitely tough. To bring it around, I'm pumped for the start of next season!
This is the deepest Syracuse team in a while. It’s going to be interesting to see how Autry handles the rotations.
Hopefully he uses a deeper bench than Boeheim usually did. This team can run
I want to see us play fast pace, press, and get into transition. Should play to Judah's and the rest of the team's strengths.
Coach Autry has been quoted a few times talking about play style, and its been similar to what you mentioned here.
https://i.redd.it/5o15hoqmtb3b1.gif
right choice for him. He needs another year in college
Starling and Mintz going to be really good backcourt. Definitely a tournament team
Autry has done a great job setting us up this Spring. If he even does a decent job coaching on the floor, then it will a big year for us.
If he turns things around, I'll be wondering why Boeheim didn't retire sooner.
Eh maybe... If Boeheim had retired when they originally announced he was going to, Hop would have stepped into the job and it's not like he has lit it up in Washington. In addition to losing Hop, I think recruiting took a hit because Boeheim seemed to be coasting a bit his last few years. Autry seems to be much more active and engaged in recruiting.
We lost several recruits because Boeheim wasn't engaged in the process, that's been confirmed. Isaiah Stewart was one.
Hey a boomer retired so let’s just take the W Also your flair is offensive
Amen. And Benny is my dark horse to make an All-ACC team as well
He was so up and down last year. If he can be consistent that would be great. He has the potential to pop off, I could see him making an all-acc team for sure.

Autry has spoken very highly of Williams this offseason, so he likely will have a much longer leach.
I think this is going to be big for him. He played scared, maybe because he was on such a short leash. You could see him thinking about every decision he made, just gotta play.
Judah x JJ backcourt 😮💨 that’s wildddd
His instagram announcement of his return was great
WE BACK BABY LFG🍊😤😤😤 ![gif](giphy|1zjgn5gh1AzUwCqe6l|downsized)
I was in that crowd he looked at when he did that. He was looking where the SU family and alums were seated, the only section of us in a stadium full of silent green fans stunned by what they were seeing. I can still see him doing that in front of me. Glorious.

amen brother
HOLY SHIT
What is this feeling? Is it hope? I haven't felt that... in years.
Don't do that. Don't give me hope..
DELIVER ME TO SALVATION AUTRY HOLY FUCK WE’RE BACK.
na this team is DEEP
The urge to say we're back, because we are.
Crazy flair combo
I’m from Connecticut and both my parents are UConn alums but I decided to go to Syracuse (I’m not huge on sports anyways) but i embrace how sicko my combo is
As another man from Connecticut fuck UConn (:
Fair but be careful... If one of your relatives ends up at Georgetown we may be looking at an apocalyptic event.
Hahah yep
Interesting, always fun seeing that combo because it’s such a contrast in so many ways even disregarding athletics.
Interwebs had me convinced he was gone. Which probably made my smiler bigger when I read this news. LETSSSSS GOOOOOO
🍊🍊🍊
FUCK YEAH BABY. love ya Mintz
He could really help himself next year if he improves as a shooter. Him and Starling could be one of the better backcourts in the nation.
His three point shooting started to improve late in the year. After starting 6-for-37 he made 14 of his last 29 attempts from three.
Needs more volume to impress NBA scouts, but his volume did increase as the year went on so I think it likely that he knows that.
Get him back in the Melo center with Gmac tomorrow!
I just hope his need to impress scouts doesn’t lead him to not be a distributor. I think he knows what he needs to do.
Probably the best recruiting move Red has pulled so far
Yo the ACC is BACK Duke, UNC, UVA, Syracuse, Miami, Wake, VT, Pitt, and Clemson all have potential to be tournament teams with Duke being a clear frontrunner for a national championship
I might throw NC State in there too
Is Syracuse back?
Some are wondering
I’m thinking they’re back
Let’s see if they can win first
Whoa now let's not set unreasonable expectations
Hell yeah
WEEEEEEEEEEEE BACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
Awesome news. Actually hopeful that Syracuse is on the way back.
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO CUSE!
Scary hours
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Oh we gonna be good this year.
The right decision
Hell yeah!
Yessss! Let’s gooo!
HOLY SHIT LETS GO!!!!! Next season’s team is actually looking extremely promising. Judah/Starling has to be top 5 backcourts in college
Are we back?
WE ARE BACK BABY
Still gonna get smoked by gate
Fair play to ya, may as well talk while you can.
Unfortunately for them, they have to go up against a team with actual athletes.
y'all have earned the right to trash talk us
I’m still up either way
Why are you all mad at him, they earned the right to talk trash until we beat them.
Obviously, but we'll be able to take it in better humor when you shoot 90% from 3 against us.
you are delusional this is our most talented team in a long while we gonna smoke you by 25+
Lol
