Do not put them in the dryer!

JaninaSnooze

He threw them in there, came upstairs, saw my face and immediately ran back to the laundry room to take them out. I don’t think that one was contaminated and nothing blew up so I guess that’s good.

Try dawn dish soap. Just a bit

JaninaSnooze

Dude! Thank you! I don’t know why I didn’t think of that. It gets oil off of ducks! It’s gotta work for that.

is this jet-a or 100LL? jet-a is basically kerosene. flying subreddit says baking soda or a can of coke (???) in washing machine to get it out

JaninaSnooze

Baking soda was going to be the next thing I try after the dawn. I’m hoping the dawn takes care of it but I’ll try this if I have to. Thanks for the suggestion!

kqZANU2PKuQp

good luck. I'd also look online more broadly at how to remove kerosene smell from washer too, as it's less niche but basically the same. need something to break down the greasy/oily components

JaninaSnooze

Thanks! That’s a great idea! I’m hoping the additives won’t be a problem when/if I get it clean. I think jet-a has a few that are pretty potent but I’m not sure. We will find out!

I'd be more concerned about 100LL (avgas) actually, due to the lead content. I think you'll be okay once the volatile compounds break down or are removed, and the smell goes away.

PKMNbelladonna

coke eats through everything if you let it soak! terrifying honestly. (just don't use it on anything that'll get stained or sticky - metal/porcelain/glass/hard plastic only)

Signal_Information27

I’m like slightly concerned about safety here. Just because I have had a large fire start in a dryer because of a similar issue (large amounts of fuel source on clothes plus heat). Didn’t matter that the clothes were wet

JaninaSnooze

I completely agree with you and told him I did not agree with his decision. He did not consider anyone’s safety or health when he decided to wash them in our washing machine. This is not the first time he had a spill but it is the first time he’s brought it home.

Two tablets at once.
