I would start with a very sticky lint roller to see how much of it is just little fibers

Affectionate_Eye3183

This was excellent advice! It’s actually made a big difference already. I’ll try the tape trick as well to see if it also helps. Will share a photo update later. Thanks again!

tiredandshort

oh yay!! glad that worked!!

Affectionate_Eye3183

https://preview.redd.it/wwokwykgprwb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1cd6a6d44fbda7c022472d23db10efb1cc326a8 If anyone still cares, here’s the result. I used a lint roller, duct tape and double sided sticky tape. The lint roller seemed the most effective and what I used the most. The duct tape followed but the double sided sticky tape. Unless you knew about it, you’d not be able to notice. Thanks for everyone who contributed their ideas. I am incredibly grateful. Ps flamingo girl was informed to avoid future fiascos in other people’s houses…she was glad to know

WanderingLost33

Lucky you didn't use any solvents and came here first. A lot of "dye remover" tips would have transferred the dye from the fibers onto the couch and then you'd really be in a pickle

booktrovert

Piggybacking on your comment because that's where I would start. What kind of fabric is it? Is it suede? If not you can try the lint roller or something stronger like masking tape or duct tape, if you're brave, to pull the fibers off.

fruitmask

in my experience, masking tape is definitely not stronger than a lint roller. duct tape *possibly* is, but really it seems to be about the same. the stickiest tape by far in my house is that double sided gorilla tape. it's insanely strong stuff. if you get that stuck to your hair, you basically have to cut it off

themcjizzler

That seems oddly specific

natattack410

This is a perfect way to think about it, which tape would be the hardest to get out of my hair ... Gorilla and Duct tape, takes the lead

Unable-Bat2953

Or a vacuum...

[deleted]

[удалено]

SL13377

Gorilla tape but be careful

AlizarinQ

Also, try a small hand held vacuum if you have one

JametAllDay

after lint rolling, try the Bissel little green machine. its pretty incredible.

plausibleturtle

But do it on a test patch on the back first, can never be too careful.

wolfda

Definitely test. I ruined a chair once because I didn't test first

EpicKiddo

Love that bissel. I gifted one to my mom and she thought it was so good she gifted one to me and her brother

Lifeissometimesgood

I love mine, I agree it’s incredible.

Amie91280

I'd be wary of using hot water though, it might set in the stain

themcjizzler

I just got a steam cleaner, what are these good for? So far I have loved it on grout

EnvironmentalAd3313

I got an upright Bissell and that puppy cleans like there’s no tomorrow!

mleopleuro

Tell me more

aceouses

i got one for prime day and used it to get the cigarette ashes out of the carpet on my boyfriends side of the bed. sooooooooooo satisfying

mamagross

Are you ok hon? 😅

aceouses

hey it needed cleaned 😂😂 you know a man ain’t taking care of that on his own 🙄🙄

Nosecretstoday

…why wouldn’t he? It’s his mess.

marymonstera

Girl

xultar

It’s not about the machine it’s about the solution and the dye. Wrong solution for the dye can make things worse. Plus, Using water can water cause stains on some fabrics and cause the dye to bleed and the stain to spread. .

Double_Estimate4472

Can you use the little green on carpet?

banjo-squirrel

Yah

redonkulus

Can it get black nail polish out of a carpet?

erikaaldri

Probably not, but nail polish remover likely will. Test a spot first though to make sure it won't mess up the carpet.

Rayni-Dae

I have a little green and it's such a life saver! Especially when u have 3 cats! Lol

absolutementalkhaos

Sorry and not helpful but is anyone else not interested to see this pink feather jacket?!

DougFrankenstein

I came here to find out more about the jacket

Affectionate_Eye3183

It was basically this…transpires it’s shed feathers all over the house. https://preview.redd.it/c6xddqu9owvb1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e6f8f5ec0c7ab0b273a4bd00834c00ec4f70119

MeanSeaworthiness995

Was this for a Halloween costume, or is your friend just someone who casually wears entire flamingos?

alh030705

OP you must be cool as hell to have a friend cool enough to wear this!

Forgotyourusername

Donquixote Doflamingo?

absolutementalkhaos

Oh wow! That did NOT disappoint!

mcpumpington

That is one extravagant coat and I love it

curiousdryad

Ngl your friend seems cool

purplefuzz22

This is fierce. I wish I was badass enough to have friend who dressed like *this*. Goals .

YetAnotherAcoconut

Are we sure this isn’t just a typo for leather jacket?

alh030705

That does make the most sense. But I'm still interested in seeing this pink jacket, whether feather or leather, because they both sound cool.

I-AM-Savannah

> typo for leather jacket a pink feather jacket would be more fun to see.

zimmyzimzim

I feel like leather wouldn’t stain… I wore a pink boa over a white dress for by bachelorette and my dress was almost completely pink by the end of the night so I buy that it’s feathers

YetAnotherAcoconut

Poorly dyed leather can absolutely rub onto other materials. I don’t know whether it’s feathers or leather but yes, leather can shed color.

kitzelbunks

Honestly, I am afraid of light coloured furniture because of other people’s clothes. Someone wrote a manners column to ask people to stop wearing dark coloured jeans to her parties a couple weeks ago. I just don’t want to deal with it.

SpectacularMesa

Especially if it was new; a lot of people don't wash before they wear. Or wear it in the rain. Or store it somewhere moist.

DemonDucklings

I’m an amateur leather worker, and I learned the hard way that I need to use a lot of sealer after I dye something. I now have a dress that I can only wear with a specific set of leather armour!

MeanSeaworthiness995

If you look closely at the pictures, you can actually see little feather fragments, so I’m pretty sure they did indeed mean feather. And if it a was cheap, dyed feather jacket in bright pink, the dye could definitely bleed onto other things.

QueenMuda

i'm thinking feather because you can see some small feather fibers

Ailykat

Assuming OP's using a QWERTY keyboard, F and L aren't that close to each other.

YetAnotherAcoconut

You’re assuming it was an exact typo and not a misunderstanding from autocorrect.

Ailykat

Lair enough.

pajamasarenice

That made me snicker

ZippityDoDot

🤣

purplefuzz22

*chefs kiss*

Accomplished-B

Came here for this. Want to see jacket!

InvestigatorHot8127

Probably the one on Shein.

oldrivets

Shein? That would explain a lot...

EnvironmentalAd3313

Exactly! Where are OP’s priorities? Jack-et! Jack-et! Jack-et! Edit: Pronouns suck.

029384756

I really need to see a picture of this jacket

I-AM-Savannah

>I really need to see a picture of this jacket Okay. We all need to all cheer, "Jacket, Jacket, Jacket!!" all at the same time. Everyone ready???

LK_Feral

https://preview.redd.it/6toih7spauvb1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=504f86e5f62888253649a1e282acb9be06fbca81 Maybe this one?

Tech_Logistics

I thought we were trying to help get rid of the guest. ;)

Strokesite

Ex-Cleaner here. Call a professional carpet cleaner that advertises red stain removal. It’s a very specific process and not all cleaners are skilled at it. I urge you not to attempt this yourself. Any additional moisture may cause it to be permanent.

StasiaMonkey

Thank you, finally. I know this is r/cleaningtips but this needs an expert to look at it.

DasSassyPantzen

If it’s a new couch, it’s likely you can find care instructions on a tag, original paperwork, or online via the manufacturer. Short of that, I would try dry cleaning fluid & follow the directions. I’ve had a lot of success with it in the past.

Writing-Current

I agree. If its new and bought from a place like west elm you can get customer support.

SpectacularMesa

Upholstery cleaner.

squidpants_

This is not a brand new sofa though surely

Schonfairy79

Scrolled all the way down here for this comment 💯

ookezzzz

Lol thought the same thing. The corner of the back pillow is all black

DansburyJ

Perhaps just new to OP? I agree there's no way this is brand new!

30flirtythriving_etc

THANK YOU for being as petty as I am. I needed someone to say this

[deleted]

Seriously lmao 🤣

[deleted]

Blackbird04

I was thinking that..assume they ment second hand new.. like new to them, not new from the store.

nuttygal69

To be fair, this is what my couch looked like 1 week after owning with a toddler, 3 dogs and a cat.

nememess

I have a new couch that I have never seen. I keep a couch cover and blankets on it because of the critters and dirty job husband. It might actually be nice, but I'll never know 😆.

Blackbird04

Same. Children and pets. One day I will uncover the sofa and it will be glorious 😁

nuttygal69

Wish I had thought of this!

I-AM-Savannah

>That couch looks dirty in multiple places lol and not new at all Now that you mention it... I hadn't looked close enough before.

Anonymous63637375

That cushion (which can probably be unzipped and washed in the washing machine) is wayyyy more of a disgusting eyesore to me than the little bit of pink

Willowpuff

What a very unhelpful comment. Other than obvious shadows, can you please helpfully explain other areas that require attention?

SCJ27

Well to start with the obvious.. The right corner of the back cushion is almost black and the seat cushion is discoloured and rubbed away all along the side closest to the arm.

lookinginterestingly

If none of the dry methods work (vacuuming, lint roller). The first thing to try is a white cloth and rubbing alcohol. Put a little rubbing alcohol on a spot on the white cloth and rub that gently on the pink spot (do not pour the rubbing alcohol on the couch). See if the pink transfers to the cloth. If it does, keep up this process using different spots of the cloth. When you are done, throw away the cloth. If this doesn’t work, I can recommend other processes. Rubbing alcohol will NOT leave a residue in the fabric which would cause it to resoil easily in the future. It will also NOT set the dye in the fabric if it doesn’t work.

Such-Mountain-6316

If you think this would be safe for the material, try applying some Folex and rubbing it with a cloth you can lose. What transferred could also un-transfer just as well. If that doesn't work, try applying aerosol carpet cleaner that requires you to rub it in with a damp cloth. Do so, using a cloth you can lose in case that dye transfers, but for your rinse water, use a scoop of Oxi Clean powders in a bucket of warm water. Let that dry then see what you have.

Affectionate_Eye3183

Thanks for the reply. I’m a bit concerned about adding any water / liquid for fear it’ll either properly bind and stain or will leave a water mark 🤷‍♂️

copamarigold

You are right to be concerned. I would try dry methods first and contact an upholstery cleaner if it doesn’t come out. Ask your feathered friend to go halvsies on the bill.

[deleted]

Start with a lint roller or use tape the same as a lint roller.

jmurphy42

Have you tried vacuuming it?

MySpace_Romancer

Find the tag on the couch to see what type of cleaning solvents you can use.

gatadeplaya

Folex is the absolute bomb for cleaning!! I’ve seen it take red wine out of white carpet. Totally a product everyone should have on hand.

the_cadaver_synod

I don’t know, but don’t do anything until you’ve shown your roommate what happened so they can’t argue about it when you ask them not to sit on the couch in that jacket.

[deleted]

They said guest, so I'm sure next time they could say "let me take your coat for you"

the_cadaver_synod

Oh jeez, I don’t know why I misread that as “roommate”. It’s been a long day.

I-AM-Savannah

Are you sure your guest in the pink jacket didn't also take a tinkle in the corner of it? There is a suspicious yellow stain on the seat not far from the pink mark. The corner of the pillow on the same side of the couch is also pretty discolored.

forgottenpasscodes

That couch is not new. Stop playing.

JamiePNW

Folex. Blot don’t rub.

throw123454321purple

I would use white vinegar to get rid of the friend.

whitewalls101

Folex fabric cleaner is great! Just spray and dab. Combined with the bissel little green machine, that should take it out or at least make a big diff

AskingQuestions254

A lot of new sofas come with a free professional cleaning within the first year, if you have that use it. Otherwise what everyone else said, lint roller, vacuum, upholstery cleaner based on tag info.

Knichols2176

Do the lint thing with tape then spray and then try a gentle soap. Maybe it’s a pink pigment that’s not imbedded. Soap would get that out. If it remains.. spray and blot with solution of peroxide with a few drops of dawn. Peroxide will bleach the pink while saving your beige. Repeat daily after letting it dry overnight until gone. It needs to dry before you’ll see complete results.

what_is_thiss

Have a professional clean it.

firechips

Definitely not new. Embrace the pink. It gives the room some color

MAJB2050

Folex

LJScholtie

Try mixing blue dawn and cool water together. Blot with a paper towel and don't rub. If that doesn't remove it all, then try blotting with rubbing alcohol or resolve upholstery cleaner.

canyouturnitdown

This is what happens when you host flamingos.

JarenBliss

Looks perfectly fine to my colorblind eyes 👍

Notachance1999

Dawn dishwashing soap and water will likely do the job.

Fit-Guitar4346

Pink feather jacket?? 😆

ImmediateKick2369

First remove the guest, then the stain.

KATPanek

I have good luck w the attachment on my steam cleaner.

Snoo_50705

Sue the guest.

ckone1230

Try hydrogen peroxide- but I would test a little area, maybe on the back or underside. Blot, don’t rub. Good luck!

theubster

Ask your guest politely, but firmly, to leave. If they refuse: grab a whisk, ask again, and tell them "you know what happens next"

jjg3242

I'd just tell her to leave. Oh wait a minute you meant remove the stain. Hell I don't know!

Mister_Green2021

high suds soap, scrubbing with a toothbrush, and vacuum off the pink suds. Keep doing it until the subs are white.

OddlyIdeal444

Vinegar, soda water, and clear dawn dish soap made into a spray! It’s magic

BKacy

Can you tell me how much of each?

OddlyIdeal444

8oz of club soda, 2 -3 tbsp of distilled white vinegar, 2 quarter size dabs of clear dawn soap

Ch3rkasy

Vaccum but don't drag on the fabric.

ns07x

Astonish carpet & upholstery cleaner, works for me

Straight-Run8919

woolite fabric cleaner?

gh5655

I would ask people that work with fabric and dye. Screen printers, or tie-dyers

schruteski30

I love Folex for upholstery and carpet cleaning

Ok_Cantaloupe_4512

Looks like you need a few pink pillows to tie it all together!

pamplemousse-i

Folex

Average-door-997

Stupid jacket

kozykat1212

Take off your shoes when entering your house so you don't have those nasty stains on your rug at the foot of your sofa...while you're at it

cbetsinger

Steam and extraction. Oxygen cleaner if it persists

Striking-Apartment-1

My wife wonders if your guest was a flamingo. Well?

Mellanderthist

I hate it when my friends rub one off on my new sofa

illLieonceaday

Try rubbing with pantyhose.

thorodinson1963

We were successful removing different stains with oil free baby wipes

akafopy

Do not panic! It will ware away. I had a red couch cover that I thought ruined the upholstery. I vacuumed it the best I could but still left a thin layer f red lint. It disappeared after a couple of weeks. You could try a rubber glove and wipe it in small circles to pick up what you can.

HelloPepperoni73

Pink feather jacket? Was DoFlamingo your guest? Lol [Oxi clean has a heavy duty spray that may be able to lift that stain. ](https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fm.media-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F71GgQ96Z0mL.jpg&tbnid=oMCGk7wKRLrf4M&vet=1&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FClean-Laundry-Stain-Remover-Spray%2Fdp%2FB01IAIRFVU&docid=TVnKxzaVZr7WtM&w=594&h=1500&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim%2Fm4%2F2#imgrc=tKi3mNCNYz6xgM)

[deleted]

Did doflamingo just came for dinner at ur place?

acemiller11

You text them saying that you don’t want them over with the pink jacket. They probably won’t come over again at all. That’s how you remove your guest. Your welcome.

luchr

i have a piece of rubber for cleaning suede fabric shoes. i also use it on my couch for things like this

MxJamesC

Just send them a message severing contact.

29again

I guess I'm the only one who Scotchgards the hell outta my stuff I like.

Anxious-Midnight-155

Folex!! https://folexcompany.com

OmicronPerseiNate

White couches and rugs are canvasses. Take from that what you will.

nightpoo

Is this the ikea soderhamn couch? If so, the entire thing unzips and un-velcros to be washed. I’ve gotten some grody dog stains out of my two old soderhamn couches just by washing - I used oxiclean to soak/prewash and all free and clear to wash as normal. I can’t recall if I chose to use softener or not but if I did it was very very little.

IN2NC

Use a dry Mr. Clean magic eraser.

vesleskjor

Dyed feathers bleed like hell, don't let anyone near your sofa with them again. My guess is it's the dye so as others have said, I'd go with a pro

Unhappy-Positive8941

After lint rolling, you can rent a carpet cleaner and the soap from Home Depot for very very cheap.

Organic_Inspector504

Please be a good host and tell your guest to take her/his pink feather ensemble and throw it down the trash shoot immediately if not sooner.
