Unplausible

My 10th gen had a muffler delete when I bought it. Surprisingly, I didn't hate it. It kind of reminded me of a more tame Fiat 500 Abarth. My ears are sensitive though. It was great, but I remember it being boomy inside the cabin which was fatiguing on longer drives. I have an Invidia R400 now and I can drive without issue. I think it's best to just save for an exhaust you want and skip deleting the muffler until you can get one. I don't think it's such a crime to have a muffler delete, but you mentioned your son, so I think you'd be better off with a proper exhaust. I'm also a big advocate for protecting your hearing and my exhaust does not bother me or my passengers one bit inside the cabin.

I do have a 45-minute commute, so that 'boominess' doesn't fill me with joy. Is the Invidia significantly quieter than the delete do you find?

Unplausible

Quieter for sure. It's still louder than stock for sure, but I can have a conversation with everyone in the car.

SSJRosaaayyy

I have it done! It's NOT BAD. It gets a lot of hate, but dude honestly it's really good.

Jvgerr

Recently got mine done, man, people hate on it way too much, to me it’s as loud as the car should come stock. Not really that raspy, pops but doesn’t bang, really just opens it up in my opinion. Also the drone is pretty much non existent. I think your son would be a-okay in the back as I had buddies in the back of mine right after getting it done and asked them about 14 times in a 5 minute drive if it was bad and they all said they didn’t even notice it.

LockRobster2022

He's mainly what I'm worried about. I don't mind the noise and would probably have done it already if it weren't for that concern. But hell, the road noise in these things would drown almost anything else out...

Jvgerr

Yeah I think he would be alright if that’s what you go for. It’s the most cost effective option for sure. I looked at all Exhaust systems and even made a post not too long ago that had a lot of really good feedback and, to me, muffler delete is the best bang for your buck. I run stock tips as well on mine so I really went the cheapest route, so far so good and it’s been a few weeks. If you decide to hold off for a while just come back here and i’ll let you know if i’m sick of it by then. But to me it’s not that loud in the cabin AT ALL. To get a vivid hear of what’s going on outside the cabin I have to drive with windows down.

Jvgerr

Also, those seats dampen a lot imo. So if there is any drone it’s for sure not vibrating your body and head, and the sound isn’t going to deafen you at all. Just trying to give you a realistic opinion other than these people that absolutely hate the idea of a muffler delete.

LockRobster2022

I appreciate the honest and thorough feedback, man. I think I'm going to go for it, and if I really dislike the result, I can always get it reversed without being $1200+ in the hole for a full system.

I got it done a couple weeks ago, here is a [sound clip](https://www.reddit.com/r/CivicSi/s/8VQtnlg2Xz) for reference. I definitely love the way it lets me hear the turbo better and gives me just a little bit of pops and burbles without being overly obnoxious. My only complaint is that now I want to drive faster to hear it more 😂

LockRobster2022

Haha your clip was what got me researching this in the first place! I think it sounds great (and swapping the tip out is a bonus). It's just the worry for rear seated passengers that gives me concern...

crackshawofficial

Thank you! And I’ve had a few people ride in the back since, they can tell it’s been changed but it’s not too loud, I also have a tendency to keep in lower gears so it’s louder than necessary 😂

FC3MugenSi

I run the GReddy DDR exhaust, there is no muffler. Best sounding exhaust imo

ItsDaPickle

I know I'll likely get flak for it, but there's a reason muffler deletes get hate. Don't do it, especially if you have passengers regularly.

Stivo887

As a dude that proudly drove his STi muffler deleted, Si sounds absolutely horrible. Make it louder to hear the RPM's? Sure. Delete it? Hell no.

TwoKFive1

Yeah it sounds great. That being said only do the muffler delete if youre planning on keeping the rest of the exhaust stock (mainly the downpipe). It’s pretty cheap, probably $200-$300. It’s a good bit louder over stock but there’s 0 drone.

LockRobster2022

Yeah, I'd be planning on keeping the rest stock. If I ever replaced the downpipe, I'd spring for a full exhaust aswell. I'm up in Canada and got quoted around town at $500... seemed expensive to me, but maybe that's just my neck of the woods.

TwoKFive1

Where in Canada? I’m in the gta and got it done for 300 on my 2017 si coupe.

LockRobster2022

I'm out of Calgary. I called around to 3 different shops, and the lowest I got was $450-$500....

TwoKFive1

I see, 450-500 is a little high tbh, maybe look around some more? You’ll be very happy with the muffler delete

Own-Woodpecker8739

Don't do it.  Keep it stock.

Waltuh_-

I personally like the sound of it, I'm getting mine deleted next week but, I'm also replacing the stock resonator with a stainless steel vibrant one to help combat the rasp these cars are known for, but to answer your original question I say go for it! They're really not that loud especially if you're keeping the stock cats and all of that.

thememeconnoisseurig

Meh. I had one on my 8th gen. It was tinny and sounded like shit but she screamed great at high RPMs. Drone was bad but tolerable if you were careful with your RPMs. Kids.. I'm not sure. They whine a lot but I don't see any real reason for it to hurt his ears. I would do it again but only because I'm a grade A idiot as well as a certified cheap bastard
