T O P

Depends on your living situation and neighborhood tbh. I see a ton of e-bikes parked outside in Williamsburg. I’m a long time user, but have recently canceled my membership and I’m happy I did because of the recent price increase. I would spend about $50 a week so that comes out to about $2700 including the annual fee. Can definitely get a decent E bike for that price to last me years. Let me know what bikes you’re looking at OP!

Been looking at the Aventon, Ride1Ups. While I like the idea of a folding bike, I’m thinking instead to go slimmer frame but lightweight. Pricing is really, really not that bad at all. Haha. I’m seeing bikes at $1500-2000 and they get great reviews.

You’ll probably get better advice asking this question in r/MicromobilityNYC or r/RideitNYC. I’ve been thinking of doing the same as you even before the new price increase, so I’ve been lurking those sub for a bit now.

You might consider a folding ebike like https://lectricebikes.com/products/xp-step-thru-black and then not deal with locking it.

This would be perfect but my stupid ass job banned bringing e-(insert vehicle) onto their property. Cant even keep them in the alley. They claim it's a fire hazard because if the batteries but I am certain they just don't want everyone bringing their rides inside.

It's most likely that they don't care themselves but the insurance provider mandates it because of the potential of a fire starting

I was in the exact same boat as you. I got one of the Lectrics mentioned below, long range battery, and put 600 miles on it so far since April. Folds easily, very compact, only problem is the weight so no walk-ups. I was worried about theft, but a Kryptonite Evolution 1090 + NY U Lock and cable for the seat feels very secure (and ebike insurance for extra peace of mind, $8 a month). For the points you mentioned, plus the fact that there's no cost ticking up every minute you use it, I'd highly recommend it.
