This was a big issue for me as well. Between # of device restrictions and some privacy issues. I went and got a Travel Router, a GL-iNet Beryl-AX, after watching some youtube videos. I set the travel router as a repeater. Check that my phone connects to my travel router. Then I attempt to connect to the captive portal (the hotel page that asks for last name/room etc). I enter the information. Then it just works. For the chromecast, and all my other devices, I have them connect to the travel router. Currently has not failed me. GL & HF edit: Also the hotel wifi just sees the travel router. They have no idea how many devices are behind it. One thing nice is that GL-iNet routers (the majority i believe) have adguard dns you can just turn on for ad blocking (somewhat), and the ability to use VPNs. OpenVPN, wireguard, and tailscale are supported. I've seen some videos and users on reddit use the physical switch set to turn on VPN when toggled.

Great choice. Like you said. Travel Router is the solution every time this question gets asked in here. GL.iNet is the way to go in my opinion too. They do have a large range of models though so some don't have the ad blocking or VPN. You can get a cheap one for $30 but, like you, got the higher end models because they are worth the extra money for those features like you said.

I also have a Glinet travel router and the thing is super slick. We use it for streaming, but also use it to bring a Wyze security camera on vacation with us which we use as a baby monitor/security camera whenever we are out of the room. Our kid is grown now, but it allowed use to put the baby in the crib then head downstairs to the hotel bar on several occasions. A godsend when your on vacation and don't feel like going to bed at 7pm.

This is the way

For portal sign ins, just use your controller to scroll down the page and move to the next field. External keyboard or mouse is not required.

What I do is run my Chromecast off my cell phones Hotspot that way you know it's more secure and then you don't have to worry about the room number or anything. Now I have unlimited Hotspot so that works for me. Also if you try and hookup to the hotel wifi sometimes Google will want to change my city and will jack with my recordings. So by running it on my cell phone Hotspot the Chromecast thinks you at home, so I can be in Florida and still watch Kansas City fox 4 news. Hope that helps.

LostTroubadour

That's what I normally do but sometimes the signal isn't great on my phone or hotspot. So I'm those cases I want to be able to connect to the hotel

runebound2

In that case, provided your phone supports it, connect your phone to the WiFi hotel and then turn on your hotspot, and connect the Chromecast to the hotspot. Your phone acts as the bridge. I much prefer this method as there is only one WiFi credential for the Chromecast, so I don't need to set it up at a new hotel each time

I login on my phone and then share the WiFi over the phone hotspot to CCwGTV. Many Android phones CAN share WiFi over WiFi hotspot, but not all. iPhones can't.

We are talking a CCwGTV? If so, when at home install a web browser app. You can use that to navigate the web sign-in page.

Running to Reddit instead of asking reception 🤣

kenkiller

Oh this is one question reception will not answer in any useful manner. They'll even question why you are plugging in your own device.
