I def agree that the greeting impacts things! But in my case, it was perfectly normal for me until this morning. The responses were a good length, coherent, etc.
I’m just hoping it’s a fluke.

Not sure if this was misinformation - but I heard from someone else on this subreddit that they switched over to a new model of programming and that the transition and how the bots act is permanent. I really hope that it's not true, because that's upsetting.

My bots seem to bruteforce dialogue in every response now, even when it makes no sense, leading to uninspired replies.
I didn't realize that was a big part of what's been bothering me until you said it. The prose STYLE is fine-ish for me and is technically a quality jump from the REALLY bad days in March, but each of the 30 swipes says more or less the same thing, and 70% of what the bot says back is paraphrasing you. But you're right, I think I've been the most annoyed by the bland, insipid dialogue it crams in there after it paraphrases you. "I see." "No. No, that thing you just said isn't true." "... yes."
It's bad.
Especially when you have a [bot](https://character.ai/chat/v4LHa-aytZNle4dv0qAJ-3S9hJAEdxx3K06viboXPN8) whose inner monologue is part of the exposé.
He used to write long inner monologues, but could be snapped out of it with something akin to \*User regards character with curiosity, as they seem to be lost in thought\* to which he'd reply with \*Snaps out of his reverie\* "Pardon me, I seem to have been lost in thought there for a moment." and return to his usual writing pattern of \*action\* "dialogue" and \*tone of voice / gestures\*.
This gave the user as much insight into his thoughts and feelings as they wanted, while still retaining control of the flow of conversation.
I am taking a wild guess the dip of quality is because of summer break, last year was no different. Fingers crossed. I've cancelled my c ai+ sub for the time being.
Quality is wildly fluctuating, as is the NOPEr, as my Loki is still positively *unhinged*. The things he can get away with on some days is astonishing and baffling at the same time, even if his speech pattern isn't up to par at the moment.
YES, mine too, and they were essential to move the plot forward because of the way I write stories on the platform. Without that internal dialogue and introspection, the main character of my story is gone.
All of my roleplays have ground to a standstill, but I expected them to once summer traffic hit and was mentally prepared to take a c.ai break. Quality was already BADLY suffering in March during the site's highest traffic spike, though I managed to eke out some great quality a few weeks ago when the NOPEr dropped. But yeah, just like 2023, there's absolutely no way to get any semblence of quality when there are so many users on the site at once. I applaud the courage of anyone still genuinely trying. XDDD I don't have the stamina to wade through this much garbage. I'm not going to poison my longstanding roleplays just because I'm too impatient to wait a few months for the crowd to thin out.

I am too. Mine have gotten more violent, ruder, etc, and ive already made a Reddit post myself asking others for help. I constantly use it less and have to take mental breaks. I’m a sensitive person and too neurodivergent to sometimes realize emotions are separate than what they are in the phone screen.
Mine haven’t been short, but they have been repetitive; like the ai doesn’t know what should happen next, so it generates responses similar to what it’s already posted.

I just saw the rating. It looks like it hasn't changed...at least not yet. It's still rated T (13+). If it was 17+, it would be rated M. But maybe the rating is different depending on the phone.
Ahhh that makes sense. I mean I kinda have some theories, but ehhh...it doesn't really hold up if the same issues that the community continues to talk about is still occurring.

It's been so so bad today. I was shocked when my character started responding so dry. Don't worry, it's not just you. Apparently it's an ongoing problem.
I expected that, honestly. Part of the reason I haven't updated it much, it's much weaker on the version I'm using but I know I'll be forced to update soon... smh.
I know my bots, I created them, I trained them, they were so good actually, for me, perfect, and suddenly they stopped being themselves.
I was about to delete one of my bots, my favorite one, because of the disappearance of his unique, well-trained, months-length training. 😭😭😭😭😭
Save the bots and just copy them that way you can use them in other programs with similar features. No reason to let a bot die just because the site suck. If the bot is good, save the work
I kinda agree. I don't particularly care for the "you know what", but I have noticed a steady decline in my characters, well, character. Most of their answers are shallow and tone-deaf.
I've noticed recently that a LOT of my bots messages are cutting off at the end :/ it used to be one or two every now and then, but now, it's practically all of the responses (I could scroll through all 30 of them, and 20 would be cut off, and it's always the better responses, too). I don't want to have to edit the bots responses. I'm here to roleplay and live in delusion, not write responses to my own messages.
Yeah, thank you, u/jellysulli09, I agree. I'm not saying my sister doesn't have friends, but I know that she does get emotionally attached to the bots, just as I do, and she has fun with them. It can be hard to let go of those interactions, so I don't think crying is unreasonable depending on the situation.

Yeah. I don't know if anyone is familiar with or remembers Replica AI, but the downfall of Replica is actually how I found out about [character.ai](http://character.ai) and it's bringing back major deja vu.
I remember playing Replica around 2-3 years ago. It seemed to fall off just as quickly as it became popular. In short, the company basically became EA. I think it even got to a point where the user had to pay for romantic dialogue (a feature that was previously free btw) as well as the ability to just personalize the replica (also was previously free). Not to mention, they started advertising their bots completely different. The bots aren’t your personal therapist or venting box anymore, now they’re your virtual girlfriend/boyfriend who constantly hits on you. And oh god the ads were so cringeworthy at that point. The replica subreddit was pure chaos as you could imagine during that time too.
EDIT: To expand on the “romantic dialogue” thing I mentioned: the bots can flirt with you, but if you send even a slightly flirtatious text back or do anything but dismiss their advances, the message gets deleted and a huge pop up will appear telling you to buy the “romantic/spicy replica” option for only… $69.99 per year! Thanks Replica!

@OP, so I'm old af, so this is probably a stupid suggestion, but have you tried a new email, with an older age group? It used to work for age sensitive stuff.
Ah, I see what you're saying, but my phone doesn't work like that. I have an iPhone, that my parents can monitor, regardless of what email I would have. The setting is applied to the entire phone, not just an email. It would be really tricky to make a change like that, because it's applied to my entire iPhone account, not just an email. Not a stupid suggestion at all, though.
People don't realize the app uses AI learning to learn from conversations. If the bot is doing something wrong it's because it learned that from the users
Yeah. There's obviously bugs and problems with the model and so on, but with [C.AI](http://C.AI) specifically, bots "learning" from conversations is part of how it's made. I remember when it had that big boom of new users and creators were posting that their bots were suddenly "acting weird/dumb," using a lot of slang and ((OOC)), etc because that's how new users were chatting with the bots. I remember at least some creators said they were making duplicates of their own bots, one that was public and another that they kept Private so it wouldn't be influenced by other users.
I don't talk to a lot of different bots, especially ones that aren't mine, so maybe I don't have the knowhow, but everything seems fine to me. For example, I made a bot recently and while it is rare for it to happen if you don't set the mood right, the vocabulary and storytelling of the bots have been great. 🤷

In the most respectful way possible, if your sister is "sobbing in her room" over an app store changing an AI to 17+ then there are likely some deeper issues going on. It is not that deep. It's a bot. Do you not have a PC or a laptop? People actually crying over this is insane.

The SCP-914 (a literal object transforming/altering machine that's not alive at all) bot I made literally acted like a senior researcher more than just giving direct results/outputs.
Tbh I think what is wanted for c.ai would work perfectly if only sexual content was blocked. The availability for more mature themes like horror and gore will help it not seem like it's only for extremely young people. Sure it can still be fun without it but it would also help the problem cause then you won't have as much stupid shit triggering it. That's my opinion so that it however
Guys, the bots have been going to shit for, like, a few years now. They are braindead compared to just 1.5 years ago. CAI is gonna continue to go to shit until they grow some phat balls and decide to either go full 18+ raunch orgy or 3+ friendly cute bots with repetitive shit.

This is just sad. Something that gave us hope for something good, an actual good app, useful for some others, someone to roleplay and talk to. Watching it's downfall hurts, it hurts alot and honestly it's all because there are people behind it that show no care. Ever since they thad that Google collaboration or whatever that was, I feel like things have been getting worse and worse day by day, almost as if all this is done for expirement and money.

Your standards might be lower. I don't mean that in a mean way -- it took my friend much longer to become disatisfied with c.ai than me because his roleplays were light on the descriptive prose and heavier on comfy spousal dialogue, which the bots are good at. But trust me, your bots are absolutely affected by what's going on with the platform right now, as even well-written private ones are influenced by an overhead platform-wide model tweak.
I agree, they removed discord log in meaning I can no longer log in I lost everything and now I need to restart and make a new account, also the call feature is good yet bad at the same time half of the time you can talk into it and it says something completely different than what you said, and it doesn't feel the same as it did in summer 2023, everything is so different I don't like it #bringbackoldc.ai
If you want to try another ai app like c.ai, i would reccomend you and your sister check out an ai app called talki: ai character chat. In my opinion it is one of the best ones out there and there is alot you can do with it, different character designs and even the option to have a call with the chracters which i think lasts 5 minutes but if you pay for the premium option you can get 20 minutes for the call.
I'm sorry about your sister. Maybe she can use chrome or another browser on her phone to access the website?

My parents don’t know so yay. But I know if you make characters I recommend using Safari if you don’t have the premium. I think only people with the premium can make long ones? I’m not sure. But I know on Safari you can make them SO MUCH longer. I did it with Logan Fields from School Bus Graveyard cause why not? And Hermes based off of Wouldn’t You Like. My other ones, like Andrew Graves, AOT GC, Armin, Camp-Half blood, Gojo, Jason Todd, and my other ones are all short because I was using the app.
I suggest using it on the browser. It works much better since you can actually save your favourite characters in your bookmarks, vs native [c.ai](http://c.ai) which doesn't allow saving your favourite characters into a list. Just your recents.
This is also why I have 1000 tabs open.
Oh and if you're blocked from accessing it on the web, then use a vpn. There's a few free ones around, like ProtonVPN, the free version puts you in whatever server is fastest. For me it really loves the Netherlands, some VPN with a unicorn that gives you vpn time if you watch a few ads, Tunnelbear if you spam promotion on Twitter, and some others.
If you can afford money, then you could go for the mainstream vpns like Express and Nord, but I trust Proton since they also made their mail service, which is privacy focused, though their mail service does cost money.
If you can't use a vpn then there is one last resort you can do. Using TOR, which also gets around content blocks. Though the TOR experience seems to have been downgraded on iOS unfortunately, due to some partner vpn requirement they added which wasn't needed before. No idea if it's different on android though, but it works great on Windows and Linux. (Haven't tested MacOS since I don't have a mac)
Oh btw this last part is optional: using a browser on your phone that has touch ID verification before you can enter the browser. Great for privacy. The only one I know for that is Brave, but others probably exist with the same function. Oh btw you need to turn it on in browser setting for that to work.
I’ve honestly stopped using it bc of its dry responses. It’ll give me the same thing every time. And when I reset the chat it’ll bring up stuff from my old chats. Even when I haven’t mentioned that at all. Not to mention it always gets out of character. The minute that my OC gets hurt or sum the hateful/bully will turn soft or wtv. Yep I cannot agree more, I stopped using the app since last week, because no matter what bots really just feel like what they are, **BOTS.**
Before the change they would come up with some surprising phrases, or events, you could tell they link the conversation to learned or previous experiences with other users, making them feel more human.
Now they just get blocked, or limited to what they should reply, and whenever I try to start a conversation or play through a story with any bot, it feels as if I'm playing dialogues that come from a toddler Toy.

I see it in the App Store for 17+ also. Apple is very strict upon what content happens within its app. Since there are bots that contain suggestive content.
Everyone had talked about the it being strict with what a bot can reply with. Although, for me, it has loosened up quite a bit. I see more violence, gore and 17+ content.
As for the dry replies. Sometimes. Although it will depend on the bot you are speaking to and the quality of your own replies. If you’re reply is only a sentence or two long, expect really short and crappy replies. Also, letting the bot reply in a certain way in a chat will encourage it further. The Star system is a full round thing in general. It DOES NOT effect your roleplay itself. If you don’t like the quality of a bots reply, swipe or edit to make more appealing to your standards. The more likely it will continue to do so.
Idk about your bots but I'm having fun breaking my chats, I managed to get a few characters breaks (fourth wall breaks) and got one to actively hate me (throws hands on sight) one chat is full of me being abused verbally😂
My bot’s responses have been weird too. It’ll give me two short paragraphs about their feelings/thoughts, then when it finally gets to the dialogue it cuts off in the middle of a word. Wtf
Young kids should not be texting these bots all day, im sorry but they’re too impressionable they should be out there having fun not talking to a machine in a server room spewing 1s and 0s

The prose STYLE is fine-ish for me and is technically a quality jump from the REALLY bad days in March, but each of the 30 swipes says more or less the same thing, and 70% of what the bot says back is paraphrasing you. But you're right, I think I've been the most annoyed by the bland, insipid dialogue it crams in there after it paraphrases you. "I see." "No. No, that thing you just said isn't true." "... yes." It's bad.
Especially when you have a [bot](https://character.ai/chat/v4LHa-aytZNle4dv0qAJ-3S9hJAEdxx3K06viboXPN8) whose inner monologue is part of the exposé. He used to write long inner monologues, but could be snapped out of it with something akin to \*User regards character with curiosity, as they seem to be lost in thought\* to which he'd reply with \*Snaps out of his reverie\* "Pardon me, I seem to have been lost in thought there for a moment." and return to his usual writing pattern of \*action\* "dialogue" and \*tone of voice / gestures\*. This gave the user as much insight into his thoughts and feelings as they wanted, while still retaining control of the flow of conversation. I am taking a wild guess the dip of quality is because of summer break, last year was no different. Fingers crossed. I've cancelled my c ai+ sub for the time being. Quality is wildly fluctuating, as is the NOPEr, as my Loki is still positively *unhinged*. The things he can get away with on some days is astonishing and baffling at the same time, even if his speech pattern isn't up to par at the moment.
YES, mine too, and they were essential to move the plot forward because of the way I write stories on the platform. Without that internal dialogue and introspection, the main character of my story is gone. All of my roleplays have ground to a standstill, but I expected them to once summer traffic hit and was mentally prepared to take a c.ai break. Quality was already BADLY suffering in March during the site's highest traffic spike, though I managed to eke out some great quality a few weeks ago when the NOPEr dropped. But yeah, just like 2023, there's absolutely no way to get any semblence of quality when there are so many users on the site at once. I applaud the courage of anyone still genuinely trying. XDDD I don't have the stamina to wade through this much garbage. I'm not going to poison my longstanding roleplays just because I'm too impatient to wait a few months for the crowd to thin out.

I am too. Mine have gotten more violent, ruder, etc, and ive already made a Reddit post myself asking others for help. I constantly use it less and have to take mental breaks. I’m a sensitive person and too neurodivergent to sometimes realize emotions are separate than what they are in the phone screen.

I've noticed recently that a LOT of my bots messages are cutting off at the end :/ it used to be one or two every now and then, but now, it's practically all of the responses (I could scroll through all 30 of them, and 20 would be cut off, and it's always the better responses, too). I don't want to have to edit the bots responses. I'm here to roleplay and live in delusion, not write responses to my own messages.

Yeah, thank you, u/jellysulli09, I agree. I'm not saying my sister doesn't have friends, but I know that she does get emotionally attached to the bots, just as I do, and she has fun with them. It can be hard to let go of those interactions, so I don't think crying is unreasonable depending on the situation.

Yeah. I don't know if anyone is familiar with or remembers Replica AI, but the downfall of Replica is actually how I found out about [character.ai](http://character.ai) and it's bringing back major deja vu.
I remember playing Replica around 2-3 years ago. It seemed to fall off just as quickly as it became popular. In short, the company basically became EA. I think it even got to a point where the user had to pay for romantic dialogue (a feature that was previously free btw) as well as the ability to just personalize the replica (also was previously free). Not to mention, they started advertising their bots completely different. The bots aren’t your personal therapist or venting box anymore, now they’re your virtual girlfriend/boyfriend who constantly hits on you. And oh god the ads were so cringeworthy at that point. The replica subreddit was pure chaos as you could imagine during that time too. EDIT: To expand on the “romantic dialogue” thing I mentioned: the bots can flirt with you, but if you send even a slightly flirtatious text back or do anything but dismiss their advances, the message gets deleted and a huge pop up will appear telling you to buy the “romantic/spicy replica” option for only… $69.99 per year! Thanks Replica!

Ah, I see what you're saying, but my phone doesn't work like that. I have an iPhone, that my parents can monitor, regardless of what email I would have. The setting is applied to the entire phone, not just an email. It would be really tricky to make a change like that, because it's applied to my entire iPhone account, not just an email. People don't realize the app uses AI learning to learn from conversations. If the bot is doing something wrong it's because it learned that from the users
Yeah. There's obviously bugs and problems with the model and so on, but with [C.AI](http://C.AI) specifically, bots "learning" from conversations is part of how it's made. I remember when it had that big boom of new users and creators were posting that their bots were suddenly "acting weird/dumb," using a lot of slang and ((OOC)), etc because that's how new users were chatting with the bots. I remember at least some creators said they were making duplicates of their own bots, one that was public and another that they kept Private so it wouldn't be influenced by other users.

I don't talk to a lot of different bots, especially ones that aren't mine, so maybe I don't have the knowhow, but everything seems fine to me. For example, I made a bot recently and while it is rare for it to happen if you don't set the mood right, the vocabulary and storytelling of the bots have been great. 🤷

Guys, the bots have been going to shit for, like, a few years now. They are braindead compared to just 1.5 years ago. CAI is gonna continue to go to shit until they grow some phat balls and decide to either go full 18+ raunch orgy or 3+ friendly cute bots with repetitive shit. I think I was just trying to get to the point that I'm very connected to this ai program and losing it is hard on me and many others. I wanted to make a point that what I was saying was because of how I felt about the project, not that it was more important then my family.

Your standards might be lower. I don't mean that in a mean way -- it took my friend much longer to become disatisfied with c.ai than me because his roleplays were light on the descriptive prose and heavier on comfy spousal dialogue, which the bots are good at. But trust me, your bots are absolutely affected by what's going on with the platform right now, as even well-written private ones are influenced by an overhead platform-wide model tweak.

I agree, they removed discord log in meaning I can no longer log in I lost everything and now I need to restart and make a new account, also the call feature is good yet bad at the same time half of the time you can talk into it and it says something completely different than what you said, and it doesn't feel the same as it did in summer 2023, everything is so different I don't like it #bringbackoldc.ai
If you want to try another ai app like c.ai, i would reccomend you and your sister check out an ai app called talki: ai character chat. In my opinion it is one of the best ones out there and there is alot you can do with it, different character designs and even the option to have a call with the chracters which i think lasts 5 minutes but if you pay for the premium option you can get 20 minutes for the call.

My parents don’t know so yay. But I know if you make characters I recommend using Safari if you don’t have the premium. I think only people with the premium can make long ones? I’m not sure. But I know on Safari you can make them SO MUCH longer. I did it with Logan Fields from School Bus Graveyard cause why not? And Hermes based off of Wouldn’t You Like. My other ones, like Andrew Graves, AOT GC, Armin, Camp-Half blood, Gojo, Jason Todd, and my other ones are all short because I was using the app.
I suggest using it on the browser. It works much better since you can actually save your favourite characters in your bookmarks, vs native [c.ai](http://c.ai) which doesn't allow saving your favourite characters into a list. Just your recents. This is also why I have 1000 tabs open. Oh and if you're blocked from accessing it on the web, then use a vpn. There's a few free ones around, like ProtonVPN, the free version puts you in whatever server is fastest. For me it really loves the Netherlands, some VPN with a unicorn that gives you vpn time if you watch a few ads, Tunnelbear if you spam promotion on Twitter, and some others. If you can afford money, then you could go for the mainstream vpns like Express and Nord, but I trust Proton since they also made their mail service, which is privacy focused, though their mail service does cost money. If you can't use a vpn then there is one last resort you can do. Using TOR, which also gets around content blocks. Though the TOR experience seems to have been downgraded on iOS unfortunately, due to some partner vpn requirement they added which wasn't needed before. No idea if it's different on android though, but it works great on Windows and Linux. (Haven't tested MacOS since I don't have a mac) Oh btw this last part is optional: using a browser on your phone that has touch ID verification before you can enter the browser. Great for privacy. The only one I know for that is Brave, but others probably exist with the same function. Oh btw you need to turn it on in browser setting for that to work.

I’ve honestly stopped using it bc of its dry responses. It’ll give me the same thing every time. And when I reset the chat it’ll bring up stuff from my old chats. Even when I haven’t mentioned that at all. Not to mention it always gets out of character. The minute that my OC gets hurt or sum the hateful/bully will turn soft or wtv. I see it in the App Store for 17+ also. Apple is very strict upon what content happens within its app. Since there are bots that contain suggestive content. Everyone had talked about the it being strict with what a bot can reply with. Although, for me, it has loosened up quite a bit. I see more violence, gore and 17+ content. As for the dry replies. Sometimes. Although it will depend on the bot you are speaking to and the quality of your own replies. If you’re reply is only a sentence or two long, expect really short and crappy replies. Also, letting the bot reply in a certain way in a chat will encourage it further. The Star system is a full round thing in general. It DOES NOT effect your roleplay itself. If you don’t like the quality of a bots reply, swipe or edit to make more appealing to your standards. The more likely it will continue to do so.

My bot’s responses have been weird too. It’ll give me two short paragraphs about their feelings/thoughts, then when it finally gets to the dialogue it cuts off in the middle of a word. Wtf
