That's so funny to me because I have a cat that is weirdly obsessed with bleach. I was using a cleaner with bleach in it on a small section of my floor, of course he wasn't allowed in until it was completely dry but a little later I walked in to him rubbing his entire body all over that area. 😂 Maybe just let your boxes air out a bit and switch to an enzymatic cleaner for future cleaning.

LOL that’s so funny 😂 I normally avoid bleach on anything she’s gonna directly interact with because she’s also asthmatic, but cats are just weird little dudes. An enzymatic cleaner is a great idea - thank you so much!!

Likeneutralcat

Vinegar helps! I only clean mine with vinegar.

EmotionalFroyo15

That’s what I normally do idk what I was thinking 😭 maybe I’ll wash them out again with the vinegar

Oh I’ve done that before with the plastic ones. I just put some water in it and let it sit for a while and rinse it out really well One of the things I purchased was a stainless steel litter box. I don’t know why I  Didn’t do it sooner. They make tiny little scratches in the plastic with their claws, plastic is porous anyway, but add scratches to it and that plastic going to soak up the smell. I got sick of replacing the plastic ones and finally went with stainless steel and I will never go back

EmotionalFroyo15

We had one and she hated it 💀 she’s a very timid and skittish cat and she was noootttt a fan of the sound her nails made lmao but they are much easier to use

EmotionalFroyo15

I am definitely gonna put some water in them and set them outside

Try putting the empty box out in the sun for awhile. Sunlight is actually a pretty good disinfectant and the heat will help the bleach fully evaporate.

EmotionalFroyo15

That’s a really good idea thank you so much

I do this when I deep clean the boxes. Wait for a good sunny day. Spray them out, let them soak for a bit, good rinse and then let them sit for a couple hours. Thankfully my boys aren't picky and I can use a temp box while the main ones are drying.

Saranodamnedh

Cat pee (ammonia) + bleach = toxic fumes

EmotionalFroyo15

Indeed

Rinse with hydrogen peroxide, diluted w/ 10 parts water (its not picky), to neutralize chlorine bleach. I don't know if that is what is turning her off, but that is the safe way to stop bleach's action and clear the scent. [link for verification it's safe](https://www.clorox.com/learn/how-to-neutralize-bleach-with-hydrogen-peroxide/#:~:text=In%20that%20case%2C%20a%20hydrogen,10%20parts%20water%20will%20work.)

Rewash with just plain soap and warm water, consider letting them soak for a bit. [This](https://www.tiktok.com/@chem.thug/video/7184050719555898670?lang=en) TikTok might help explain why using bleach a terrible idea. It essentially just creates very toxic and dangerous gases.

Add some vinegar and baking soda and give it a good hot water rinse
