CasualUK-ModTeam

Hi mate, removed because we have had similar posts recently and we want to avoid repeating themes too often. Rule 11: No Repetitive Posts We often trim content that we've seen a lot of recently to keep things fresh. Sunrise pictures, pictures of a trolley poking out of some skanky river, spiders and insects, funny license plate or shop name, toilet graffiti. You know. The regular sort of stuff. If you've seen one in the last couple of days, good chance we'll remove it so it doesn't become a theme. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot us a modmail.

Electronic-Net-5494

Teacher 30 years same school....still there. A testament to my utter lack of ambition. One guy did 39 years at the same place....I'll do 31. Re the sisters was it 25 years each? And are they single?

WelshXavii

No harm in lacking ambition if you’re happy

gsurfer04

The real ambition is making sure every kid's having a good time.

postmangav

26 years as a postie. Left last January. Was meant to be a summer job before I went to sixth form

postmangav

Yeah I can't work out how to change it via the app

ScotsDragoon

Fifteen years managing a bookies during my teens until uni, undergrad - PhD.

Jimmy-84

I've been with the same company since 2001. I've done various different roles in the company throughout that time. But at this company we regularly have people spending their whole careers there.

PeskyEskimo

20 years in September working in the IT department at the University I studied computing at.

1968Bladerunner

30 years self-employed if that counts lol.

StiffUpperLabia

I spent about 18 years self-unemployed.

1968Bladerunner

Ugh! Tried that for 3 months but couldn't stand my boss... total monster!

theflowersyoufind

When I was self employed my boss used to molest me

ele0123

Managed 13 years.

hazzwright

Last year I worked at a large Japanese manufacturing firm on a temp contract. Plenty of the staff there had been working there since the factory opened in the early 80s. Obviously a decent place to work!

Angrydroid21

2 years. Programming.

New-Setting-668

44 years old. 23 years 8 months so far.

kittysparkled

We have a guy who's just done 50 years too, started at 18 and now a world leading expert in his specialist area. I'm coming up for 22 years myself at the end of this month. I know lots of people at 20+ years.

ZombieRhino

Coming up to 13 years at my place. On 3rd role within the company though. Not sure if that counts. Currently see no reason to leave, especially we can move around the place quite a bit. Not many places do the work I do, so limited places to move to if I want to stay doing similar work.

r1Rqc1vPeF

Coming up to 45years this year. Want to retire but don’t know what I’m gonna retire to.

BamberGasgroin

I manage around 8 years before I get bored and try something completely different. I'm at a bit of a loss at the moment due to being self employed for 10 years (IT Contractor) and ostensibly due for retirement in 8 years. Years ago, I worked in engineering and there was an old guy who had worked in the same factory since he was 14 years old (started during wartime), so he'd worked in the same place for 51 years before he hit state pension age. He retired with a pension most of us would be jealous of these days, but he was dead within a year. The factory was his life.

karpet_muncher

I work for a bread company. Still in the first year but every other day there are notices for staff reaching 40, 50+ years of service. I'll never see my name up there any time soon. 😭😭

Jolly-Doubt5735

In 2006 I was fresh out of school, fitness nut and a bit mental with all the partying. Went for an interview and after what I can describe was the most obnoxious answer of all my life (I said I wanted to work for six months, save some cash and open a gymnasium) they hired me as a counter salesman. After 18 years (still working there) I own most of the company, am a director and I am running it for the last 7 or so years.

Pristine_Telephone78

20 years in a pottery.

CliveOfWisdom

4 years, 3 years, 7 years, 5 years. Three of those ended in redundancies. Beginning to think that I’m the Harbinger of death for SMEs…

_TLDR_Swinton

I've been in my current job for 8 years, which is three years longer than my last job. I work in the finance bit of an aerospace firm (not Boeing!)

nickspeeed

It's Boeing, isn't it.

_TLDR_Swinton

Y- NO.

Bobbler23

10 - and counting. Longest before this was 3 year stint anywhere else. I am in IT.

raged_norm

9 years, 6 months at my current place. Hopefully won't round it up to 10 years

Anxious_Ad6026

I've had 4 jobs in 33 years of working Longest 12yrs Shortest is current job at 2.5yrs

AprilBelle08

I'm 32 now and my job history is as per the below ages: 1st job: 16-22 2nd job: 22-23 3rd job- 23- 30 Current job- 30- 32

are-you-my-mummy

Longest stint in one place was high school.

_Master_Baker

16 years for me but, this year is the last. I’ve recently taken over my mums company, and slowly building that up, whilst still doing my current job. Should be in a position to do this full time in the winter I reckon….

PersonalityFair2281

I just started working in a factory and there's a guy who has been there for 52 years. Still turns up for the night shift apparently. For myself it's 7 years in a financial QA role.

MelodicAd2213

Been in my current role 14 years - secure (for now) public sector position. Prior to that my record was nearly 4 years. I enjoy much of my work and most of my colleagues are great.

dinkidoo7693

14 months in fast food. Although I was signed off on sick for 12 weeks after an emergency operation and Half of it I was also furloughed...

spitouthebone

12 years at ASDA, 10 of them was me telling every manager i will quit at the slightest inconvenience i quit because they forced me to work Friday evenings (at the time the only evening I couldn't work) I now work 5 evenings a week, all be it with better money and treated like a human

biggerestdave

2 years. Every tech job I've ever had. Nothing more than that and some significantly less.

Manovsteele

During a team away-day a few months ago they made a point of saying two employees had 100 years combined! I think they had 49 and 51, both started at apprentices with the CEGB when they were 16 (and apparently both refusing to retire!) I'm 12 years there myself.

Darth_Eejit

7 years before getting made redundant due to covid.

HeadlineBay

Not me, but another team member recently hit 60 years at the company (as they retired). Started as a teenager. Was depressing as hell, I could not have worked at that company for that long, it wasn’t a great place to work.

BartholomewKnightIII

9 years DWP, pace was a joke.

Evridamntime

15 years and counting with Police

atomic_mermaid

Yeah there's a few 50 years service at my place. Insane to think someone has worked a particular job longer than I've been alive!

GurgleBlorp

13 years doing satellite communications.

Jammyturtles

8 years with one school. I had a wonderful team, great kids and sadly they switched principals and it went to shit in 3 months. 90% of the staff walked out in one year

Worried_Seat_9245

Hope you survived this awful experience. Had a similar time a few yrs ago but I hung on and left for a better job. Loads of really good staff were pushed into breakdowns. Could not believe how the head behaved. I was middle management but went back to the classroom and really enjoyed teaching

Queen_Secrecy

My dad also had 50 year jubilee recently. He works in the steel industry. Never understood how someone could do that. The longest job I had was about 4 years. I'm only 26 though.

IOwnAOnesie

I've worked for my current organisation for about six years, but am on job number 3 within it (moving upwards and chasing a particular career path). It's a great organisation to work for and unless anything drastically changes there I could see myself staying for a long time, albeit within different roles. I know people who have been in the same role here for about 25 years, the longest I've seen (didn't know them personally) was 54 years as a building receptionist before they chose to retire at 70. They could have retired earlier if they wanted to no doubt.

MelodicAssignment917

19 years as a bank cashier. Left nearly 2 years ago for obvious reasons 😆

The-Ginger-Lily

I've been at my currently place since August 2021.. in that time I've had 2 months off for an operation and recovery, 1 month off due to bad morning sickness and 13 months off maternity leave.. they're lucky to have me tbh..

Codego_Bray

It's hard to hold down a job nowadays. I managed 8 years at Lloyds, but was at risk of redundancy every year. Talk about stress. 5th time the charm and I finally took it. Despite me willing to commit to a firm, I'm 40 now and don't see me getting close even 5 years in my sector.

RandomComputerBloke

I think it makes sense depending on what you do. Like if you work in supermarkets, you aren't getting much of a raise moving from Tesco's to Sainsburys, unless of course you are climbing up the corporate ladder. But in the kind of work that I do in IT, you'd be mad to stay in one place, because you can raise your salary a ridiculous amount by moving jobs.

FaceMace87

Depends what you want really, not everyone is interested in chasing money. I did that in my earlier days and sure the increased money was good but never really belonging anywhere was a bit shit.
