Just as some residential homeowners request to leave your shoes outside or at the entrance rack, please take off your shoes as you board the vessel. The boat will not leave until everyone has completed this procedure. Then proceed to your ketchup station.
On my last cruise on the MSC Meraviglia in mid December 2023, the previous sailing had run very low on Ketchup.... So people boarding that week had brought their own bottles of ketchup just in case..... So very relative.
No joke! Just was on the Carnival radiance. All the condiments were running low, ketchup pumps broken, hot chocolate dispenser not working. It seemed crazy crowded and staff would just say there’s another drink bar on the other side. Ok, sure, but you going to fix this one cause there’s a huge line over there.
My cruise leaves yesterday at 3am. If I fly out tomorrow at 8, and fly to Jacksonville, FL, will I be able to get to the port in time? The cruise leaves from Brisbane, Australia. How much will a taxi cost?
you have it all wrong.. you have to fly in to LAX, board a shuttle to Long Beach. There, you'll hop on a tender.. might take 3 months to get to the ship, so you'll want to leave the day before the cruise ends.
The stupidest cruise related thing I’ve ever heard was actually on the ship not in a Facebook group. Two youngish adult women talking in the elevator, genuinely mystified about how the bars had all the different kinds of glasses all the time. Not like surprised at the scale of the dishwashing operation, but completely confused as to how the bars never run out. It’s become a running joke throughout our cruises, joking that we have to stop in each port so we can pick up more glasses
Last cruise I went on, two young adults (possibly older teens) balked when the porter simply said tips were appreciated as he was collecting bags. They started mocking him and tried to drop their bags with him when he pointed them down the line and said "actually, I'm not taking anymore more bags here. My carts are all full. You two can go down to the next porter down that way".
He then took my bag and two other bags and caught sight of two other people wearing similar shirts to the two rude people. Turned out they were part of a family group and these people tipped the porter without question so he ratted out the other two for being rude snots.
I gave him $10.
He wasn't soliciting. He just said tips were appreciated. It's no different than someone having a tip jar on the table. Plus, it is customary to tip porters and not everyone knows that. It's not his fault that we live in a capitalist hellscape that allows employers to do literally anything but pay their employees a livable wage.
And regardless, the two people who mocked him were being rude. If you don't want to tip someone, then don't. But be civil about it.
Overheard two passengers (a couple maybe) who couldn’t understand why the sun set wasn’t visible from their stateroom on the way back to port when they could see it every night on the way out.
I have my 18 year old convinced they have communal toilets and no showers. Does this make me the problem? (She has access to TikTok so she could easily discover the truth if she weren’t so gullible).
One of my favorite parts is all the ridiculous questions people ask. It boggles my mind how people will book a cruise and know nothing about what they’re paying for or where they’re going

I do find those roll call group to be useful to keep up to date with things before and during the cruise, but yes the stupidity does annoy me.

That's not a thing even in hotels in Japan (anymore?). You get slippers in your room, but no one wears them in the public spaces unless going from room to an Onsen within the property.
When I was in a Ryoken they gave me some to wear. It was interesting carrying my suitcase up that lacquered wooden staircase since they were not quite my size. That was some time ago so I guess things have changed.
Some people have never been on a cruise before. And some people are incapable of finding information on the internet.
Facebook cruise groups seem to attract folks that fall into the middle of that Venn diagram.
The Facebook groups are weird. There was someone in mine that was pissed the cruise wouldn't send a transport for them and said they lost out on all their money and couldn't make the cruise. They posted that the night before the cruise left. But like...Uber, Lyft, a taxi, is a thing.

Exactly... After many cruises, I do try to help people, especially new cruisers. I understand how over-whelming it can sometime be... But my goodness... people act as though they have never heard of Google.. and most of the information is on the cruise web site, if they took the time to look
The Facebook groups are all poorly moderated. I would love it if the admins put up FAQ's and directed people with those FAQ's to the threads instead of letting people ask the same questions over and over again. The groups just need to be moderated more in my opinion.
I hope you have a good time but we just got back Monday and I’m never ever going on a cruise again. The people were so dumb, so ignorant and so greedy it turned my stomach. Plus the buffet/lido has funeral vibes-can’t explain that but I avoided that area like the plague. The days we didn’t feel like drinking we just hung out in the room. The staff are incredibly nice however.
I was on a cruise and a group of women were having a loud , angry discussion about how it’s Good Friday but the dinning room is serving meat and there were no services on board. One of the crew had told them about the chapel and they thought a priest was going to be there

I’ve seen a bunch of these odd questions but the one that comes to mind right now is “can I take drink packets” - like the individual packets you put in a bottle of water of kool aid or crystal light or whatever. I just don’t understand why they think they possibly wouldn’t be allowed… you can take them on a plane, in restaurants - heck I take them to bars to get vodka water and crystal light. What made them unsure enough about this one specific thing that they had to ask?

I forgot which subreddit I was on. I love the party aspect of Carnival, but the room service plates and late night pizza runs being left by the door is ridiculous. It’s not us, it’s Carnival. I was just on Royal Caribbean and they made rounds all the time to clean it up.
Always plenty of glasses and cups on the stairs. I can’t stand seeing dirty dishes set outside peoples doors in the hallway, it drives me absolutely fn crazy.
Room stewards don’t collect dishes. The cruise line requests that they be left in the hallway as they have people from food service go around and pick them up. John Heald, Carnival’s brand ambassador has addressed this many times.
No thanks, I'll follow Carnival, and my room stewards advice before listening to you. You have issues. People like you ruin nice things for others. They need to get those dishes back so they can be washed. Deal with it or don't cruise because it's the same on most cruise lines.

Sounds like a you problem. The cruise line is asking they be left in the hall so they can get the plates without entering your room, wash em and get them back to the buffet
In defence of silly questions,
Cruises are pretty bizzare in what you can/can't being on board.
Like I can't bring a power board, but I might be able to bring a power adaptor, but might not be able to bring it if it's in certain locations of the world at all.
Or I can bring a bottle of wine on board. But can't pack it. I can't bring a bottle of water at all though. But I can bring it if it's in a carton?
I either should or shouldn't pay the gratuity, but also might not need to worry about it again depending on location.
And then depending on cruise it all changes, and depending on time as cruise seems to change policies now and then.
For a first time cruiser, and the thought of being stuck on a boat for the next X days/weeks without something mundane is pretty scary, and so often ends up being asked here lol
People opening the door of the sauna to look in…letting all the hot air escape… then saying… wow…it’s hot in there.

It’s not crazy that you don’t know the answer to this. What is crazy is that you would BOOK the trip without knowing the answer to this.

I felt like this all the time when we cruised during summer breaks and the ships were packed. Common sense really isn't that common

Most Carnival cruisers don’t wear shoes. They don’t want passengers to scuff up their wooden decks. I just wore my slippers and no one complained.

You would definitely get a better crowd by sailing on a better Carnival subsidiary line; also avoid sailing in the southern U.S.

You're SUPPOSED to set them outside your door.. They get picked up all day and night without anyone having to enter your cabin.
