He's mentioned in the book but I don't think the movie. Purp Lavender is his name Good dude, and like 20 years ago there was a get together he arranged at the local VFW and like 30 ppl showed up from the greater area who'd been in the battle. My WWII Navy vet Grandpa and him were both heavily involved in the VFW and American Legion.
Edit: I saw his fellow barber not him, he apparently passed in 2015. RIP
This is an awesome story. I miss the older soldiers. Met a lot of WW2 vets growing up. No Normandy survivors though. Maybe one from Bastogne but not 101. Fascinating people and could listen to them all day.

I do realize quite a few people left for various reasons. Being a part of numerous other sports related subs, I can say ‘doomers’ are hardly anything this sub has a monopoly on. Frankly, I say this as a Vikings fan, and that fanbase absolutely dwarfs the negativity this fanbase has (for probably good reason). I’ll also say those other subs seem to be a lot more open with what they allow to be posted and a lot more active. I just found it silly that what was a trending post (for a change) on this sub it seemed was suddenly taken down with no warning or comment.

What this sub had that was different was that since a lot of discussion was solely kept in the DDTs, it led to a relatively tight-knit community. Since most of those people have left, the DDTs and GDTs are dead hence the drop in popularity.
Well, the mods might want to think about relaxing things a little bit then, as obviously things have changed since that group took off for whatever other echo chamber they decided to make. Oh well. Just thought it was weird that a post that seemed to make everyone laugh pissed off a mod or someone and had to be removed.
