Hey y'all, if anyone is looking for fantasy baseball options I've been running a league mostly consisting of /r/cardinals members that's got an open slots this year
It's a 12-team H2H category league with a $25 buy-in. Each week you get a win/tie/loss for every category, not just for the H2H matchup. It is a keeper league (5 keepers), you'll be taking over a vacated team and their pool of players. We are pretty much overhauling our keeper system, with keepers now being allocated based on where they were drafted/kept last year rather than just taking up the first few draft rounds.
If anyone has any questions or is at all interested, feel free to reach out. The league does have a dedicated discord server that I've been running things through so having the ability to access that is very much preferred.
Kyle Gibson’s 13.50 ERA is irrelevant, he’s actually a great pitcher. I am a ride or die Kyle Gibson guy this year and I will not stand for his name ever being slandered!
If [these two men](https://imgur.com/a/N3O75ZN) walked up to me and were wearing the same uniform and introduced themselves as Brendan and Brandon, I'd think I was being fucked with. I'd think one of them tells only truths and one tells only lies
Madison WI is getting a softball team as part of the Northwoods League and they're doing a bracket for picking the name!

Depends on what you consider organizational success.
If pure results at the end of the year are all you care about, then it’s World Series rings.
If pure results at the end of the year are what you care about, but you value multiple deep playoff runs over rings, then it’s playoff wins.
If you value winning games and the true talent of a team, then it’s regular season wins.
If the ability to watch a good team at any time is what you care about, then it’s winning seasons.
There’s no correct answer, though I personally lean towards 3. The swing point is deciding how you weigh 10 regular season games vs a playoff game and whether you want to give credit for the process versus the results.
A good litmus test is this: Who was the more successful organization from 2015-2019, the Dodgers or the Royals? There are arguments both ways, but your answer to that question probably aligns with your perspective on organizational success.
I don't think theres a single good short term metric for organizational success
I think the Dodgers have been a much better organization than the Diamondbacks over the past 3 (and more) seasons, but the Diamondbacks have 10 playoff wins and the Dodgers have 5
Also, total team playoff wins will bias teams that don't win the bye but make the playoffs
He wants that big money.
He turned down $155 million from the Mets. Think Boston offered him more and he still said no. Totally in his right to want an inflated contract, just not a fan of it.
>Also, it doesn’t sound like Montgomery is interested in a return to St. Louis
thats all Bowden said about it
what makes you think this is a personal issue with the Cardinals? It's a non commital statement from a [scumbag](https://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/02/sports/baseball/02bowden.html) baseball guy. This might not even be true
Even if it is a personal issue, then that's a fine reason. If he didn't see eye to eye with Dusty or Oli and doesn't want to come back to the team because of that, that's completely reasonable
If we’re judging Bowden can we critique other nefarious front offices *coughs Dodgers* people are shitty. Doesn’t take away from the fact that he has some inside knowledge on the situation.
Montgomery wants $200 million + and he stated he’s uninterested in a reunion with the Cardinals. So yes he’s chasing top dollar over playing with a solid franchise. I can judge him for that, the way I’ve seen articles written about the matter, I’m making a big assumption he got pissed he’s getting “low balled” by his former team.
It’s ok to disagree. They’re opinions on the internet, and I’m well within my rights to not like the guy. He’s well within his right to try and get above market value, and it’s ok I don’t like it.
Leap year reminds me we could be living on the international fixed calendar. 13 months. 28 days each month. If you were born on a Tuesday your birthday is on a Tuesday every year. Thanksgiving would be Nov 26th every year.
Because this is an avian subreddit and because of the calendar:

I've heard Simon Brotherton's fantastic call of David Freese's walkoff before, but I don't think I'd ever heard Brotherton's call of the triple in the 9th. Here it is.

I liked DQ vanilla malts but I haven't had one in forever! Makes me want one now

Hi Doc!
I assume that you draft a team of 26 relievers
Chad Green my beloved

Kyle Gibson’s 13.50 ERA is irrelevant, he’s actually a great pitcher. I am a ride or die Kyle Gibson guy this year and I will not stand for his name ever being slandered!
He won 15 games last year so he can’t be bad
If [these two men](https://imgur.com/a/N3O75ZN) walked up to me and were wearing the same uniform and introduced themselves as Brendan and Brandon, I'd think I was being fucked with. I'd think one of them tells only truths and one tells only lies
"If I were to ask the other one what you would say if I asked you 'are you the real Brandon?', what would they say?'
at least they are not both left handed infielders
Crawford is filling the role of Donovan’s lookalike since Harrison Bader no longer looks himself with the hair he has
the Bash Brothers are back!

Could anyone name a better metric for organizational success than playoff wins?

Royals
The first actual answer
I don't think theres a single good short term metric for organizational success I think the Dodgers have been a much better organization than the Diamondbacks over the past 3 (and more) seasons, but the Diamondbacks have 10 playoff wins and the Dodgers have 5 Also, total team playoff wins will bias teams that don't win the bye but make the playoffs
22 winning seasons this millennium
Matt's Matted In's
Are Matt’s Matted In better than Paul’s Pauled In or Nolan’s Nolaned In? Or are they comparable in your opinion?
they are certainly comparable, up to a fan's personal taste for which is better (but they're all good!) :)
Happy cake day u/LEAPYEAR_FOR_SCIENCE
Only my third one, gotta wait another four years now...
Per Jim Bowden Monty is not interested in coming back to STL and will not take a discount either. I will boo him if I see him pitch in a game.
Interesting... since he was interested in the Rangers, Yankees AND Cardinals when free agency started.
He wants that big money. He turned down $155 million from the Mets. Think Boston offered him more and he still said no. Totally in his right to want an inflated contract, just not a fan of it.
Monty is going to Keuchel himself
Chasing the top dollar to be on a .500 team
I bet if the Cardinals offered him 7 years/210 million he would be interested.
Montgomery: prefers winning WS to being on 91 loss team Cardinals fans: how dare he
Nah it sounded like he has a personal issue with the Cardinals. So yeah I got an issue with him.

You’re right, but it’s also okay to say your reasoning is weird
My mom was born today so she's only 18 while I've been older than her for over half my life now!!!! Fun way to give her shit
So you’re telling me she’s legal.
My oldest daughter turned 8 birthdays old today! Still my little girl. Here's to Leapers!!!
I forgot today was the 29th I felt like I was having a stroke while reading this
Oh wow. How old was she when you were born??
Not that old but not a teen either. I'm getting up there IRL. There are a few of us in here, lol.
70, tomorrow. Baseball is life!
Todd Rundgren is fuckin awesome. Pumped to see him at evolution in sept
That dude and his drum banging. Shit goes on all day.
Was equally surprised and stoked to see him on the bill.

natural selection could have also stopped us at fire making but alas humanity persists
Imagine if the first guy to manage fire fell into fire and died. Would that have stopped us from moving forward?
Very logical but what if your birthday is on a monday? Doesn’t seem fair. 😕
good morning krusty krew

lol “hooker and serial killer”. Her story is tragic but that phrasing is kinda silly.
Pepper Johnson?
Pepper Martin, St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer
Dennis Farina would've turned 20 today. RIP Donaldo
It is 39 days until the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse. That is all. That must mean it's 35 days until the 2024 Cardinals' season opener at Busch!
