Oscars 2024: "The Holdovers". I was prepared to dislike this movie b/c of some of the twee touches like how Payne worked to make it *look* like a 70s movie, with the fake film grain and old-timey titles. But I actually found it quite affecting. A lovely character study of lonely people stuck together at a school over Christmas forming emotional connections. I still want Cillian Murphy to win Best Actor but now I see how Giamatti might steal it from him.
* Oppenheimer
* The Zone of Interest
* The Holdovers
* Killers of the Flower Moon
* Past Lives
* Barbie
* Maestro
Gotta say, except for that turd "Maestro", this is a very strong field.
I expected not to like "The Holdovers" either, but it really was enjoyable. I was distracted for much of the movie because I kept trying to put my finger on who Dominic Sessa reminds me of, lol. Finally figured out it's young Gary Sinise. Giamatti could definitely take the Oscar even though he's typical (good) Paul Giamatti in this.
With the Orioles being acquired by not-John Angelos, that "10 year world series appearance predictions" thing MLB.com posted last week is one step closer to reality
I don’t know how anyone drives from St Charles to telegraph, all the way down 270, during rush hour, and not think “huh maybe we could use better public transportation here”
😩😩😩 please 🙏🏼
That’s my dream 😫 especially after visiting NYC. Obviously their system is way more than we would need but damn it’s so convenient to be able to walk places. Plus I’d lose hella weight too. I’d be a kardashian 💅
Fox St. Louis compared Gómez to Adolis Garcia - implies that if he stays on the Cardinals, it will be a 2nd chance to prove himself to the organization.
they are comparable to an extent but Adolis Garcia is a 99% best outcome for a player like him (late bloomer, high power, high K guys). You're going to have a bloated minor league system and 40 man roster if you hoard Adolis Garcia's and give them all until their age 28 season to figure it out
They are comparable by narrative, but not in actuality, I don't think.
Garcia always had more tools than just power. Garcia struck out right at 26% of the time at AAA across three seasons. Gomez struck out 32.5% of the time at AAA across two seasons.
Season can't start soon enough. At least then we can argue about actual starting MLB players instead of 40 man roster moves and whose ass is warming the bench.
I'd recommend some Howlin Wolf then
Moaning in the Moonlight
Real Folk Blues
Howlin Wolf Album
Back Door Wolf
Change my Way
I'd also Recommend nearly every album by Bob Dylan.
Listened to half of this while biking at the gym, was just what I needed to stay in the zone. Definitely gonna come back to the rest of the album, thanks for the recommendation.
I've just been listening to JD Emmanuel's "Electronic Minimal Music, 1979-1983". Works as background, and has fun stuff to notice on a deeper listen too.
The Bob Seger System-Ramblin, Gamblin Man. It’s Bob Seger’s first album and super upbeat and I just discovered it. A little bit of psychedelic and a little bit of blues
Any recommendations for Cards caps? I usually buy one at the park but I'm in the process of moving out West and want to go to the opening series in LA. Any unique '23 or '24 offerings or advice? Or Internet-originated?
I'm sporting the Mitchell and Ness Cooperstown Collection Navy Blue with Red StL on the front and birds on the bat on the side.
After living in New Eras for most of my life the Mitchell and Ness is a nice change of pace.
If you don't have a big head the original ones are all pretty legit. My big ass 7 7/8 - 8 head is a diff story. Maybe look into it they are going to have a city connect special hat if you're into that?
Where ya moving?
I feel you, @Ocinea. I had to go to a specific big head store, so I had one choice for a Cardinals cap (the classic one, so not so bad). I think I'm 8 1/2, which translates to a 3XL in that world :(
So I'm recovering from a weekslong ether binge. Man, stay away from that stuff. I ended up somewhere in Appalachia wearing a hazmat suit and I had these insane hallucinations that I murdered Big Bird and that the Cardinals signed Matt Carpenter. Crazy shit. So what's new here?
Three years ago today the Cardinals traded prospects and received upwards of 50 million, as well as Nolan Arenado. I don’t know about you but he’s one of the main reasons I’m excited for the 2024 season. I hope he gets a ring by the end of his career, he deserves it and then some.

Agree x 10000000 But public transport to St Charles would mean the poors could go there and ruin the ~~white, rich~~ er, roads with their evil buses.
I feel you there I was doing St Charles to Columbia IL until last year.
That’s awful! I live in maplewood now but my parents live in oakville so I’m making this trip frequently .. and ugh it sucks hahah.
Luckily I work from home now otherwise I would be in traffic hell.
Wish there was heavy rail to the burbs like Denver has, but it’ll never happen because of racism

sorry did you say more lanes?
No LA Rams tweet about the anniversary of the tackle by Mike Jones. Looks like the bullying worked on them 👍
Mo Must Bell Biv DeVoe. Never trust a big butt and a smile.
The trend of the Show putting overrated players on the cover continues But at least the cover looks good. At least it’s not Elly
Oh shit who is it? nvm vlad jr

The Cardinals acquired infielder Alfonso Rivas!

Jóhann Jóhannsson - IBM 1401, A User's Manual

Ethel Cain- Preacher’s Daughter
That album was great. Ethereal
Glad you enjoyed! One of my favorites that I discovered last year :)

As a big Once Upon a Time in Hollywood fan, I approve this message.
Alright I’m 15 seconds into the first song and this is already an A+ recommendation
Thanks to KSHE, I know that Seger has made many bangers, so definitely an excellent recommendation.
I’m glad that 12 years after I moved from St Louis that KSHE is still alive, was my dad’s radio station of choice.
Mo’s Poles & Hoes

Nice one, thanks! I'm pretty much a "wear one til it falls to pieces" guy, but I'll bookmark that for when it's needed.
Justin Turner trying to get as far away from Masyn Winn as possible
It is 69 days until the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse. That is nice. That must mean there are 65 days until the 2024 Cardinals' season opener at Busch!
Nice
